The Moment of Truth… Laney Cochrane loves her life. With her friends Millie and Tash, she runs a proposal agency, organising the perfect setting for their clients to pop the question. Finding that forever love is something Laney knows all about. Her marriage to Cameron is blissfully content and she has never doubted they’ll live happily ever after. Then Cara Deacon walks into their office. When Cara enlists their help to set up a romantic engagement to her boyfriend, they visualise a breathtaking scene under a moonlit Manhattan sky. Laney’s excitement rises, until she realises that the man Cara intends to marry has the same name as her own husband. Cameron Cochrane. A bizarre coincidence? Identity theft? A cruel joke? Or is Cara’s dream about to become Laney’s worst nightmare? The only way to know for sure is to plan the proposal and see it through to the end. But whose heart will be left intact after… The Moment of Truth?
In January 2001, Shari Low's Low's first novel, What If? was published. Since then, Shari has published over 35 books, and sold three million copies around the globe, hitting the best seller charts in many countries including UK, USA, Canada, Germany and Australia. In 2023, she had three consecutive #1 best sellers - One Day With You, One Moment in Time and One Christmas Eve. Her first release of 2024, One Year After You, also hit the #1 spot.
In late 2020, her first novel, What If?, was updated and re-published, followed by the sequels What Now? and What Next?. All three novels became international best sellers.
Shari has also co-written three Hollywood thrillers, The Rise, The Catch and The Fall, with LA-based TV presenter and actor Ross King.
In real life, once upon a time she met a guy, got engaged after a week, and thirty-something years later she lives near Glasgow with the one they said would never last. Their children have now grown and scattered across the world, so she spends an inordinate amount of time on video calls and aeroplanes.

Ugh.. I can’t say I enjoyed this one, but it is written well, and I finished it. I’m not going to spend a lot of time researching, but I think this may be a series; it didn’t pull up as one, but there are 2 separate subplots with her friends going on as well.
SPOILERS AHEAD The book blurb lays the plot out, and I thought it sounded right up my alley. I love drama and angst... what I didn’t plan on was for this to take up the ENTIRE book. You know how when you’re reading these cheater books, and you start to get that feeling in your gut? You are teetering on the edge waiting for the big conflict. Yea, that’s the only feels you’re going to get, so enjoy it. The entire book is Laney wavering.. is he cheating... is he not... is he lying.. is he not. We get one teaser at the 18% mark where she catches him in a lie, and out with the OW. Does she approach? Nope Confront him? Nope
We have to wait until 88% in to finally get some movement in the plot, and confirm that’s he’s a cheating ass. Again, does she approach him? Nope Confront him? Nope again. She leaves, flies back home, and waits...which is what I’ve been doing already for over 300 pages!
At 93% he’s home, and I’m thinking... this is it... I’m getting my confrontation... and oh boy am I excited.. . I want FEELS!! Scream Laney, Throw shit... Cry & Beg you lying bastard... BUT ... instead I got like 7 pages of her calmly calling him out, and him barely putting up a fight... talk about anticlimactic.
I know I’m being so drama right now, but I’m just so damn bummed. I’ve been chasing a carrot for hours, and feel robbed 😁😂
2 ⭐⭐ - Meh! =============== The story dragged on too long and the confrontation with the cheater was lukewarm. I wanted to see explosions and fireworks, but it was without emotion. He and his bitch had no retribution or punishment.
While I was reading, I thought this was a solid 3-star read. It was hard to "watch" Laney plan the proposal of her husband to an OW. As I was processing what I would write in this review, I thought 4 stars were warranted because I was in suspense (and anxiety - as was Laney) - if Cam hadn't really lied as much as he did, if he was truly seeing Cara (OW), if he would propose to Cara while married to Laney, was Cara a stalker, etc. I eventually understood her need to see it, record it, etc. to ensure the end of her marriage - after all, he was the love of her life. There was a surprise for my cynical and suspicious self regarding Millie and Leo. The author was good at throwing some red-herrings out there.
I really enjoyed this book although I have to say I felt sorry for Laney almost the whole way through it. I have no idea how she had the strength of character that she showed, and I don't know many people who if in her position would do what she did.
For Laney along with best friends Millie and Tash run Perfect Proposals an agency to help set up incredible, romantic proposals to give loved ones a proposal to remember. Imagine the girls surprise when they had one of their rare female clients come in, and give the name of her fiancee to be, to be very familiar.
For he has the same name has Laney's husband.
I loved this story of female friendship, and the three very distinct personalities of the girls, who I enjoyed getting to know that bit better, as some chapters focused on one of them individually. Tash is a complete tonic, her outlook on life is so refreshing, and added quite a lot of the laughs for this book.
The Moment of Truth had me on tenterhooks to see just how it would all resolve itself, when the moment of truth was revealed.
Loved the characters and the writing, and its another incredibly entertaining book from Shari Lows back catalogue which I am really enjoying working my way through.
While it was an oddly mixture of fun and angst to read, I couldn’t get past the idea that Laney went through planning the proposal for OW and her own husband instead of confronting him.
She said that he was so good at lying that she wanted solid proof but there was so much adding up that the ‘proof’ felt more pathetic than anything. I wish that she confronted him a lot earlier on and then moved on with her life
I really liked this one but I have too much on today’s plate to expand on that idea. It’s def British Chick Lit and not a romance, so use that as your guide. I’m in a minority among my GR friends on this one, but it hit the spot for me!
this trio group of friends had my whole heart. i came for the exposing-cheater-partner storyline and ended up staying for Laney, Millie and Tash's beautiful friendship. they were all so different to each other, but they fit together like pieces in a puzzle. even though this book was romance heavy, that and the main plotline itself was secondary to the joy i experienced following each of the girls' journey throughout the story. and unexpectedly, towards the end, it was strangely so suspenseful??? like i didn't anticipate being on the edge of my seat for the reveal but go off.
the way the three besties supported each other unwaveringly was definitely the highlight for me. yes, there were some pretty nice dudes (and some extremely shitty ones as well) but for once i didn't give a fk. being in a trio of friends myself, i can see us becoming like them as we grow up and not gonna lie, its making me sentimental and soft right now. you won't see me getting all personal and mushy much, so don't go spreading the word that kyra's changed all of a sudden🙄
in terms of the actual 'moment of truth'it was lowkey kinda flat, like not even one vase was thrown?? hello?? its giving me primary school disagreement. i wanted more drama, more tension, more grovelling. but once again, it not like i was focused on that main plotline anyway. Millie, Laney and Tash supremacy. fk all men<3 jk, some of you can stay xx
Another of my audiobook reads/listens. The story centres around three friends who own a business called Perfect Proposals. Lainey, Tash and Millie are childhood friends who went into business together to help couples create the perfect proposal moments. They are the ideal team, really, with Lainey being in a solid relationship with Cameron, the perfect poster couple for happily marrieds, and Millie, who is a die-hard romantic. Tash brings realism to the outfit, with a more laissez-faire approach to romance, as she is not one to be tied down herself. The story is told from the perspectives of all three women, each with a parallel storyline. Still, the focus is on Lainey, who discovers that they appear to be setting up a proposal for a couple, led by the female half... and the male half may be her husband. There is a lot of wariness, as she battles with whether she should confront him or not, and tries to convince herself that it is a coincidence that the man is called Cameron, with the same surname and job title as her own husband. I won't tell you more, but though it sometimes took a while to get going, and I sometimes wanted to throttle her for not asking him straight out, the three friends hash out a plan to find out the truth, in the most spectacular way! The narrator was really great with accents, and I enjoyed listening to this.
This is my first by Shari Low (I set aside "One Day In December" only a couple of pages in because I wasn't feeling very Christmassy and began this one instead). Several of her books were on offer at £0.99 so I took a chance and am pleased that I scooped up a few, I am now a fan.
A lovely story about the friendship between a group of three women who, although different in temperament and outlook, are depicted as educated, articulate and sensible. My kind of characters, I loathe Barbie types.
This was 4.5 fabulous stars - this was a fantastic read. My only minor qualm was it focused too much on the Laney and Cameron saga (I know the synopsis reads that) and a bit less on the others (despite the multiple POVs) but I became equally involved with Millie and Tash's stories and somehow theirs left a little to be desired.
This book was a celebration of friendships - I really enjoyed the parts when it was just the three of them in their office (A proposal arrangement company, a typical book fantasy job) where Millie is pillar of support and Tash is brutally honest and Laney is quietly resolute. Tash made me laugh a lot :) We don't get invested as much in their love lives as much as we would have wanted and we just end up getting more of Cameron. I personally would have liked to know more about Matt, Leo and Simon than just the flashes of them that were provided. But i guess this happens in a book about multiple characters, there's not enough time to invest yourself with all of them
This was my first book of the author, would like to read more from her. Read this when you need a good dose of girl-bonding time and feel empowered with characters in a book! :)
These kind of books drive me crazy. I’ve run into a few lately. The premise/blurb sound so great! But then in chapters 2, 3, etc… I realize I’m supposed to also get invested in b/c/d level storylines with a cast of characters not mentioned in the blurb. I don’t enjoy those types of books, generally. I want to deep dive on the main story.
I skimmed a lot so I could finally just get to the moment. Then it just kinda… ended. I didn’t find the story satisfying.
Nice book. It just felt overly long, and there were moments when my attention wandered. Most of the end was predictable but there was one surprise for me. I won’t spoil it, it’s worth a casual read.
Three friends since forever run a business called Personal Proposals. They plan unusual and exceptional events that take place all over the world. Things are going well until a client hires them to plan a proposal to one of their husbands. Is it all a big misunderstanding, or a moment of truth? "Laney Cochrane loves her life. Laney, Millie and Tasha are an eternal trio who met at high school and have been inseparable since despite their extremely different personalities. They work together in their proposal business, planning unique and personalised marriage proposals. Things are going from strength to strength until Cara Deacon walks in with her fancy designer outfit and her stunning looks wanting the team to plan her proposal to one of their partners. Is it all a big misunderstanding? Will they go ahead with the proposal?
It was cheesy and cliqued and several bits were pointless or annoyingly predictable. I’d made glorious plot twists in my head for the ending that I was actually pleasantly surprised that I was wrong while also being a tiny bit disappointed with the predictable outcome 😂 I found it extremely hard to believe that the “scorned bride” would merrily throw away (tens of?) thousands of pounds planning an engagement to her partner?! I know there was discussion of finances but that element seemed utterly stupid. Otherwise though, for what ultimately was a chick lit book I did enjoy it. Very easy to read.
It cannot be easy to come up with an original idea for a romantic comedy book but Shari Low does it every time!
The mere concept of an agency that sets up unusual settings (okay sometimes cheesy) for marriage proposals was a new one to me! To then have a customer come in intending to set up a proposal for your own husband - just brilliant!
The three main characters who run this agency, Tash, Laney and Millie are all likeable and in their own way and most of us can identify with traits of at least one of them!
It’s a light hearted book on the whole (not withstanding the organisation of a proposal to your own husband by his bit on the side!) and witty as Shari Low always is. I chuckled at lots of the one liners! However, it definitely kept me turning the pages waiting and wondering if it was all a big mistake and it wasn’t Laney’s husband at all!
It's a 3.5 stars. I liked the characters and the plot devices, even if they were really predictable at times. I found the story heartbreaking, but not so much to hurt me (and I'm an emotional reader).
I loved Tash and her snappy attitude. At the beginning I was sure she would end up with Matt, until Sy went to her home topless for the first time.
Cam is a gurbage-man. I hate cheating, from the bottom of my heart. He deserves Cara, a real Bitch (sorry for the language).
Millie is so cute. At the beginning I thought the proposal was from Sy to Rash. I'm afraid to say I thought Leo was a "bad" guy. Not a cheating one, but an opportunistic aspiring actor.
I would have loved more scene about the agency guy, he was so cute. The same goes for Matt, but at least he found a new love interest in Laney.

This was another amazing and hilarious book by Shari Lowe. Living in the West of Scotland I love all the references to places I can identify there. I highly recommend this and all of Shari Lowe’s books.
This book centres on three best friends who run a wedding proposal business. Tash is allergic to relationships, she loves her life as it is and just wants no-strings attached sex. Millie is head over heels in love with her actor boyfriend who is waiting on his big break - will she ever get the romantic proposal she dreams of. Laney is happily married to Cam and is looking forward to spending the rest of her life with him and starting a family. Until one day, a new client (Cara) turns up wanting to surprise her boyfriend with a proposal - it has got to be just coincidence that his name is also Cam Cochrane.
Another brilliant and unique story from Shari Low. The Moment of Truth is about 3 friends who work together running their own company, Personal Proposals.
The company organises lavish, romantic proposals for their clients and we get to witness several of these wacky experiences throughout the book.
However, one client comes in wanting to organise a proposal for her fiancé in New York and it turns out he has the same name as Laney’s husband 😲. As the story progresses the girls try to discover whether this is a co-incidence, identity theft or outright betrayal.
This book is funny, exciting and moving. I could almost feel the apprehension of the characters as the proposal arrived. My heart was actually pounding as I read. I was so invested in these women.
No spoilers but you’ll certainly get some surprises. Another winner.
It was gut wrenching. It was unbelievable. It was all of the worst of humanity mixed with all of the best of humanity.
I loved the love shared by the friends and the brothers with their sister. I love the reality of life's morality and the longing we all have for being loved. I loved the nagging feeling of doubt when love is on the line.
I hated the negativity and how the betrayal dragged on and on while completely understanding the need. I suspected the second confrontation when it was happening and was glad.
I'm glad it's all over and I like the upbeat of the happy endings for EVERYONE except for the one who lost everything that was really loved. Justice.
Kindle unlimited. This was a quick read, I started and couldn’t put it down until I devoured it. I loved all the characters more than others, however I did feel some of the situations might have been over the top, but yet plausible. There are some sick narcissistic people out there, and some women will stop at nothing to get what they want, even if it’s not there’s for the taking. I was not let down by the ending, but I really would have liked more damage inflicted on Cara and Cam, I just didn’t think they come out with any lasting scars like they inflicted on others.
I read through Kindle Unlimited. I have read several of her other books also. This one however I did not like the ending. I thought the cheating husband and his lying girlfriend should have had more drama than what happened. Also the other two women in the group should have had more focus. Especially Tash and why she feels the way she does about relationships. I will still check out her other ones and she does have a recurring thing in her books about other characters that she has written about before.
This was a good one! I loved the three main characters, their dynamics and personalities. Also, unlike many other books in the same genre, this book was always "going somewhere", there's a clear build up/climax and direction of the story (where I find that many other books take so many detours that the main story line gets lost, or even sometimes there isn't really a story beyond someone getting together/being proposed to/ending a relationship). This was well written, funny whilst not being overly comedic and trying too hard, cute, engaging. I will definitely read more from this author!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Another 5 star book! My friend Jen recommended this book to lame because she loves the author and well as the Scottish narrator! I have to tell you- I can see why Jen loves this author and narrator! It was a very great listen! I loved the three friends and their proposal company- how fun! This book was filled with wonderful characters, live stories and heart break. So many twists that provoked feelings of hope, happiness, anger and the joy felt from the long-term friendships women experience! Love, love love this book! Thank you Jen! I’m hooked on Shari Low!!!!
This was well written and the author did a good job of building angst and suspicion without fully confirming anything until the last minute.
I liked the friendship between the three women and I enjoyed the way they had actual personalities and supported each other.
I hated that Laney was so passive and emotionless throughout the whole book. Even the confrontation was lacklustre and I also really didn’t like that Cara won in the end.

Definitely a total chick lit that is the equivalent of a good time pass rom com movie. I can definitely see this being a cheesy rom com movie that we enjoy deep down inside. I thought some parts of the book definitely dragged a bit to get to the climax, and then the ending was an abrupt whirlwind of closures for Millie and Tash, which I’m not sure I enjoyed, but it reminded me of how Grease, the movie, ended. It was definitely effective at playing a movie in my mind.
