A really good play that chronicles a part-time waiter and wannabe actor in New York as he moves from restaurant to restaurant while trying to make it as an actor and simultaneously figuring out who he is, what he wants out of life and what's really important in life. Some very good writing and a great message, fun characters, I like this play a lot. It has some flaws, it's a little long and not all of the scenes really hit home or seem very integral to the story nor do they add much to the show's entertainment value; the ending is sweet but a little weak and the business at the end between Charlie and Doris feels a little rushed and forced. I also wish that the relationship between Charlie and Doris was expanded upon a little more, I would have liked to see more reason for Doris to start going with Charlie besides the fact that her fiance wasn't right for her. Overall, I really enjoyed this show and it's one of my favourites but it is a little long and at the same time could use a little more fleshing out.
I really liked this play, although the ending was a little surprising. You really fall in love with the protagonist, but see his faults as well. Reading it, I literally laughed out loud, and I'm sure it would be even better onstage. Highly reccommended for anyone in theater
