So-So
This book in the series had its good points, but the romance between Sarai and Tyge isn't one of them. Tyge was an awful character in the last book and was just as bad this time around for half the book. Then he had this sudden turnaround and became a completely different person. Plus, Sarai and Tyge had very few deep conversations, so there doesn't appear to be any basis for a connection. The other characters are great. And of course, the dragons can almost make up for anything.

I really enjoyed this new Safe Haven adventure… although enemies-to-lovers is not among my favorite tropes - and Tyge truly didn’t make it easy for me to root for him. But to be fair, his dragon, Sundri, more than made up for it. Sarai and the “Verduu” turned out to be well matched, even if neither of them wanted to believe it for the longest time.
It was definitely fun to see how a war dragon and his rider would mesh with the “surge” of sea dragons and the fire brigade, and I loved how Tyge and Sarai finally found their place in Safe Haven, too.

Another gorgeous cosy story from the world of dragon fire fighters!
I have to admit I really didn’t want Sarai to end up with Tyge as he was just so fowl! And yes we know they can change but urgh he was horrid! lol!
I loved the sassy dragons now they talk and hearing more of Koni and his ways was excellent.

If you enjoyed the other books in the series, you will enjoy this one.
I enjoyed the FMC and MMC, especially the MMC struggling with overcoming his prejudices. I just wish the story was longer and we could see the FMC and MMC interact more see their relationship developed more. It's a bit too insta. If it was longer, it would give some more time to explore the FMC and MMC a bit more, as there was some things mention about them that I would have liked to see explored.

I think it’s a very good story and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I enjoyed the third story far better than the second, circling back to characters who are older, been worn and in many ways, damaged by their past histories, in the particular case, a shared traumatizing event, caused by one of the main characters.
A Rider's Guide to Dragon Healing sees the return of two characters who have had important roles and relationships with the main characters in this series.
Sarai Lavigne,a Tier One Healer, is dragon rider William Ordell’s sister. Someone who is thought dead by the ruler and Kingdom they both have fled. William and his dragon seeking sanctuary and retirement on Safe Haven, a mysterious island magically hidden from others and inhabited by multiple otherworldly species that coexist together. She has found her own way to a kingdom currently at war with the one they fled. She’s a beautifully written, multi dimensional woman, thoughtful, intelligent, whose past life has left its wounds.
Do I love her? Yes I do. As much as retired war witch, Calantha Stormbringer, who’s now William’s wife. The OG couple and story are great.
Then there’s Tyge de Xerrist, a dragon rider and his wounded dragon Sundri, who have fled the same ruler and Kingdom as William to Safe Haven, seeking help for his dragon who’s in desperate need of healing. Tyge and Sundri have been betrayed and she’s been ordered destroyed.
So Tyge should be a character we empathize with. But he has a problematic personality and backstory. He kidnapped Sarai previously in another story, and he’s a hot tempered bigot. He’s arrogant and insincere. So, even with a plot line that has him emotionally attached to his wounded dragon, Tyge is still his dragon’s and his own worst enemy.
And it makes him remarkably hard to connect with. I’m with Willam each time he talks to him about his racism/specism towards the islanders and inability to deal.
The growth of the dragons , including Sundri, their communications and abilities is a joy. As is all the relationships building around them.
However, I don’t think Huni made a case for Tyge’s character’s makeover here. It’s not credible in the short time frame that he goes from hardcore bigotry to total acceptance of the island’s character and history. And that the dragons have been able to “talk” directly to their riders all along, which he’s absolutely slow to believe even given proof in front of him.
So putting aspect aside a not so realistic scenario for Tyge’s redemption, I think it’s a very good story and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Eventually that nasty ol’ Kingdom will notice the dragons. Drama will be coming!

If you read the last page of the previous book in the series you got a hint about who would be the lead characters in this one. It turns out that I guessed correctly on those hints, but thought it was a bit unlikely. I mean it does meet all the hints for the early descriptions of this book, but you can't really be serious... can you? Well our author of the moment was serious, and it turned out pretty good. (Like it always does.) Well the previous books in the series and the publishers "blurb" on this one give you the all the background you could possibly need and I don't think I need to repeat any of that or go into a whole lot more detail since I don't like getting spoilers and don't want to be guilty of handing them out here.
As for the story details, I missed seeing the email for getting it, and 6 days later got one saying it was about to be ready for pre-release sales. Wait, I should have gotten a copy already right? Oh, there it is, and the link is good for a week, PHEW! I downloaded it and read all afternoon and evening, then read the rest of it all the next day.
Don't judge, first off I read slowly anyway, second, I'm only 3 months out of surgery now, and instead of being inpatient for one week at the hospital, I was there for 4, home for 1, in the emergency department wishing zofran worked better and faster on nausea and got checked back in for a week, got out for a week, was told to go back... "Why are you here?" "They told me to" "Patient has no symptoms..." but I got stuck back in for another week anyway. AND NOW I've been at home for THE WHOLE MONTH of June! So I was having to take more breaks than normal to keep my eyes from crossing, and I might be a bit slower at writing this than normal too.
So was it worth it? YES, the surgery went well, I might finally be back at work soon, and the book was great too. It was another easy to read, light, and very fun story. Well worth the time and effort, I highly recommend this one. That is if you've read the others in the series, and I will just recommend it (not highly but still recommend) if you haven't yet. Go start with the first one and catch up with the rest of us, it won't take too long.

I just couldn't do it.
I've read most of Huni's other series and almost always enjoyed them. They're not the pinnacle of great Western literature, but they're entertaining, engaging, often funny, and quite clean.
I even enjoyed the first book in this series, and the second was decent.
But here the author has shot herself in the foot by making one of her "protagonists" far, far too unlikable.
I get that we are exploring the enemies-to-lovers trope in this series, so we are Supposed to have our characters behaving at least marginally badly towards one another at the beginning. This was the case in book 1, and I liked it enough to follow the series. The problem here is that our male protagonist (who we met in book 2 and didn't like then either) has all of the emotional maturity of a 4 year old combined with all of the entitlement of the worst Gen-Z Special Snowflake you've ever imagined. Our female protagonist by contrast is a capable, independent, professional woman who has been through a lot and come out the other side still functional and master of her own fate. She doesn't need his crap, even if she does feel sorry for his injured dragon. The fact that he's physically attractive should count for nothing: he's a class-A jerk, bigot, and manipulator. We're told by his former commander (protagonist of book 1) that he has some good qualities. But they are Never exhibited on screen.
I put the book down when I realized that when they inevitably came together it would be at the expense of any respect I had for the female protagonist, and possibly the author. I wouldn't believe any character arc in which the male ended up as anything but an intolerable brat. CS Lewis may be able to write a Eustace-level character arc, but we're not playing on that level here in this cozy romantasy.

When Tyge de Xerrist’s battle dragon Sundri is deemed too severely injured in battle to fly and is ordered to be put down by his king, Tyge uses every last ounce of treasure in his possession to bring Sundri to Safe Haven. The problem? Tyge doesn’t trust the local “healers” to heal Sundri.
Enter Sarai Lavigne. A former childhood friend who defected to the kingdom that Tyge was fighting against. Sarai has “retired” from her duties as Healer and upon receiving a letter from the Mayor of Safe Haven, has decided to relocate there, unaware that Tyge is now living on the island.
As much as Sarai distrusts Tyge in the beginning, mostly due to Tyge’s role in trying to return her to her childhood kingdom after she had been kidnapped (see Book 2: A Blacksmith’s Guide to Dragon Rearing), she cannot escape the attraction she feels towards him, no matter how much she tries to deny it and he pushes her away.
And Tyge for his part, wants nothing more than to have Sundri healed, as that is the only thing that will make him whole. He clashes with everyone, even his former Guild Master William, who has put him and Sundri up in his stables. He also cannot deny his inexplicable attraction to Sarai, even as she is doing her best to heal Sundri, all the while pushing him away.
A satisfying return the Safe Haven universe. I look forward to Book 4 in this series. I also recommend that the books be read in order, though that is not completely necessary as this book can be read as a standalone, it will give you a better look at events and characters leading up to this book.

Magic and romance influence return to health of a war dragon - 4.5 stars
Safe Haven is town on a idyllic island where each person contributes to the common good. Bitter enemies become friends after deciding to change their behaviors and even beliefs to work together. Magic has many forms including mages who spin magic spells to cure illnesses and set bones in broken dragon wings. Racial prejudice and unchallenged certainty are challenged with the help of magic. In addition to spells, a special tea mixture and flying dragons who some people can hear tan talking are available.
The magical tales in the Guide to Dragons series, the author suggests mildly plausible logic to create enchantment and influence personal behaviors. This in turn allows the reader to easily suspend realism checks to appreciate dragons, orks, fairies, and special characters to amaze and delight. The writer's spells include morality lessons tossed in with the occasional flying dragon ride, dragon healing and "hand joining" (marriage) celebrations.
There were far more romantic adventures in this story than in books one and two. The ingenuity to have running hot and cold water without electricity, only fire, helps to set the tone. There were even communication stones and glowing disks to allow communication and the ability to see distinctly in dark cave tunnels. Without automobiles, there were carts, unicorns who could be ridden like horses, and even Fairy paths if you knew where to look for people to walk.
A thin plot line carried return visitors to Safe Haven including War Dragon with a broken wing, a healer to provide trained medical help and to stop a "fire imp" from setting thatched roofs on fire. This light fairy tale was a pleasant escapee.

good enough to read
If you like the other stories in this series, you’ll probably like this one. The story line is very predictable. There are definitely things that irritated me. First, Tyge was not very likable at all until quite a ways into the book. Sarai started liking him when he was an absolute jerk. Why? 2nd, every single person in the book turns pink when someone teases them about who they might like or when they’re realizing someone might have an interest in them or, heaven forbid, when they’re even obliquely referencing sex. Seriously?! Most teenagers don’t blush that much! Third, there really isn’t much action in this book. It’s basically a G rated version of a love story.
So, why did I give it a 4? Eh. I debated between a 3 and 4, and I can’t give it a 3 1/2. The storyline was so predictable it’s not funny. However, there were parts of the book that were outright funny. Since I can always do with some laughter, I upped the score rather than lowering it. I doubt very much I’ll read the next book. I can already tell you what it’ll be about, so why bother?

The third book in this delightful series continues the adventures of the inhabitants of Safe Haven. Julia has a lovely way of describing her characters and it's almost as if one knows them personally, and they usually remind one of somebody they've met. No spoilers here but the fire brigade expands and proves its worth and the, not entirely, new recruits develop through the story. Yes it's a fantasy so it's make believe but just go along with it and enjoy the various side plots and you'll love it.
I read it over a few days and it is a great way to get away from the pressures of real life, can't wait for book four.

Tyge de Xerrist arrives in Safe Haven from Verduun in anguish. His dragon, Sundri, was injured and could no longer fly. As a rider of a war dragon in Verduun, he was among the elite, and expected only the best and most deferential treatment. He would not accept the help of a mere animal doctor for his dragon! His war dragon, accustomed to meat, would not eat fish like the lower sea dragons.

Cosy Outing in Safe Haven
The Riders Guide books are a sweet mixture of fantasy tropes and an interesting look at what comes next. One of the things I enjoy about this series is the idea that things happen in the “happily ever after “. William and Cala are both done with their heroes quest. What happens then?
Tyge and Sarai have additional challenges. They have been betrayed by their rulers and need to find a way to be someone different. Watching their change of heart and the addition of another type of Dragon to Safe Havens surge is just good fun. I can’t wait for book #4

A Rider's Guide to Dragon Healing is a lovely story of the budding romance between two enemies who learn to open their eyes and their hearts to each other and love, and a best friend dragon who, as his wounds heal, he also helps heal the heart of his rider. A warm, cozy, feel-good read that continues the developments in the lives of our favorite characters from the previous books in the series. The wife of the elf mayor is introduced. A mystery is solved that opens up the future for the dragons and their riders.

Huni did too good a job making Tyge into a bigoted, self-righteous, entitled brat. I didn't feel like the turnaround was good enough and I just didn't like him. The attraction between him and Sarai didn't work for me and that's what the storyline was primarily built around so parts of this didn't sit for me. I enjoyed the healing work and obviously the dragons. Enemies to lovers isn't my favorite troupe so this one just wasn't as appealing. It's a cute series but I'm not certain I'll continue with it.

When war dragon rider Type brought his critically injured dragon to
Safe Harbor, he only wanted Sundri healed. He was accustomed to elite service provided to war dragons and their riders and was offended when sub-par ( in his opinion) services were offered. Finally, desperate for help, he began accepting assistance from the people of the island. Slowly he began realizing that the prejudice against non-human races learned at an early age was wrong. This book and series is heartwarming.

Safe Haven is such a fun story setting, I loved getting to return there with this book. This story felt deeper than previous books, but still balanced with light hearted moments.
Sarai returns to Safe Haven to help a wounded dragon. What she didn’t expect was having to deal with the stubborn and scornful dragon rider.

This is really a very nice series. The fantasy element is nicely done. There is something clever coming, I'm sure, but I'm not certain how it will be explained. The romance is mature and without undue angst. Yes, there is the whole enemies-to-lovers thing. It is more a redemption of an unpleasant man through the love of a good ... dragon...and woman. Enjoyed it very much. Highly recommend.

If I were a fly on the wall, I would be in danger of getting squashed right now. I am internally rolling all over the floor laughing as two people who had a disastrous meet-cute in a previous volume meet again - disastrously - and again - disastrously. In fact, this novel chronicles a series of disastrous meetings, with an 'unexpected', heinous (?) result. The author does an excellent job of fusing romantic comedy with cozy fantasy, for a warm and fuzzy and hilarious read.

Great romantic fantasy adventure
Of course, the dragons, Aislin, and Koni are the best part of Healing...fine, the whole supporting cast is awesome, and some new, possibly important additions are likeable and interesting. Sarai is a wonderful, believable healer. Tyge has issues but truly works to improve his behavior and beliefs. The story is well-written, low stress, funny, and heartwarming. I definitely recommend the Safe Haven series.

Poor dragon
The battle Dragon was badly injured in the wad, and rather than waste reskurces, the king just wants him out down. Tighe can't hear it, so they flee, with the Dragon transported by sea. Once they get to the island, he's so panicked (and such a snob) he virtually refuses all help until forced to! Especially from those he considers beneath him - which includes the sea dragons. Boy, is he in for a few shocks...

This is a great cozy fantasy series. If you’re stumbling across this review, this is book 3 of the series. They can be read as standalones, but don’t do that, because they’re all great and build off of each other nicely.
This book was no spice, slow burn, enemies to lovers…plus not one but two kinds of dragons 😅
I loved Sarai the whole time, and I loved how Tyge evolved and started to tackle his prejudices. I can’t wait for the next book!

I love books with dragons, magic and powerful women, this book delivers all this and more. It left me feeling satisfied with a happy resolution and a few surprises along the way. I loved how the characters aren't perfect, but keep growing and developing, as does the population of the island! A Cosy Fantasy is the best way to describe it. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary review.

This is s great read. If you love enemies to lovers, best friend's little sister, and jerk redemption with dragons then you will love this story.
The continued world building adds so much depth to the story. The imp subplot and more of the mayor's life were intriguing side quests to the main story.

Leopards can change their spors
Tyge was so obnoxious at first, I don't know how Julia Huni kept me avidly reading this lovely story. But Safe Haven is a magic place and its inhabitants are wonderfully tolerant so the grumpy churl did change. I loved how Sarai healed Sundri and how everyone got involved and changed too.These books just get better and better.

Book 3 of the Dragons of Safe Haven series, this is about Sarai and Tyge. I like that Sarai won’t give up on anyone no matter how annoyed she gets, that Tyge overcomes his prejudice and sees people for who they truly are, and that they both overcome there preconceived notions to take a chance on each other.

A superbly original story, set in an unforgettable world, with well-drawn, believable characters. I loved reading about all the different magical creatures and the amazing healing. Sarai and Sundri are my favourite characters, they are incredible.

Brilliant! What a pleasure to read! A great continuation of the storyline, with fun characters & humour through out most of the story. It is a well written fantasy that I recommend to all! You will not be disappointed!

Nice continuation of series
Nice story with places where the editing could have been better. Some elements of the plot were drawn out too long and some internal dialogue was repetitive. I'm not sure why authors do that. There will be a book4!

It is a 3.5, I liked the plot, but it was very rushed for me.
