Tate Pack #2

Inconceivable

Rate this book
Tommy Wilkins, a.k.a. "Tammy Walks" was happy with his life as one of the highest paid drag queen performers in New York City. He had a gorgeous apartment in Greenwich Village, men throwing themselves at his feet and he had lots of money in the bank. He didn't need the family that shunned him, the boyfriend that used to beat the hell out of him or even the gorgeous sexy linebacker looking Texan cowboy, named Anton "Ton" Forrester, that his friend Richard introduced him too. All he needed was himself.

But Ton wasn't going to give up so easily because you see, Tommy is his mate, and he wants all of him, makeup, heels, dresses and costumes included. He wants to heal every scar and make the smaller man believe in love again.

There's only one problem, someone is determined to keep the two men apart, even if they have to kill Tommy to do so

Vicktor Alexander

Vicktor Alexander “Vic” wrote his first story at the age of 10 about his youngest sister and her destruction of the world…with her breath.  Much to his youngest sister’s dismay the story was a hit and became the first story of a series all dealing with the planets that were destroyed by his siblings and their strange quirks and body odors. Vic now enjoys writing about shifters, humanoids, cowboys, firemen, rent boys, fairies, elves, dancers, doctors, Doms, Subs, and anything else that catches his fancy, all sexy men falling in love with each other and having lots of naughty, dirty, man-on-man sex.  Author of the best-selling series, The Tate Pack, Vic is a huge fan of the “happily-ever-after” ending. But while his characters all ride off into the proverbial sunset, all sexually satisfied and in love, they all bear the scars of fighting for that love, just like in real life. Out and proud, Vic does not believe that love only comes in one form, one race, one gender and that not only is gender fluid, by sexuality as well.  Vic loves to make people laugh and when he’s not writing, or rather, procrastinating in writing, he’s reading, playing the Sims 3, hanging out with his very supportive adopted family, talking to his adopted daughter, whom he affectionately calls "Chipmunk", seeking the man or men who can handle his crazy, stressful, soap opera-esque life and being distracted from his writing by drooling over pictures of John Barrowman, Scott Hoying, Charlie David and Shemar Moore.

This book. Oh this book. So many words and so many feelings. I'll start off with the good things.

Pros:

The characters are original and very interesting. I loved how diverse the pack was. They're a nice mix that I was somewhat interested in the other books. It was an original idea and has a lot of possibility. This was the first one I read in the series and I wasn't confused about what was going on. It filled in the previous book nicely.

Cons:

Oh this book. I can't stop saying it. This book had so many possibilities. It had real potential. An original idea. The minute I saw that there was a drag queen in this I did a mental cheer. Tommy does indeed wear women's clothes, but it has very little to do with him being in drag. I don't think he once channeled "Tammy" in the story, but then again I quit reading about 30 pages from the end. So maybe Tammy made an appearance at the end. This story was the outcome of poor editing. Every time I just started to actually get into the story, I was jarred out by repetitions, grammatical issues, or misspelled words. It was like it was the first draft.

Mr. Alexander repeated himself in a single sentence several times. The story read like a high schooler's first attempts at writing. If polished, the story could be good. Good, but not great. There are too many factors that keep it from being great.

The basic idea is Ton a Texan cowboy/werewolf mates with Tommy, a New Yorker drag queen. He brings Tommy back to the ranch with him. During the ride home Tommy is attacked by your stereotypical preppy jocks. It's okay though because Ton transforms and attacks them. Miraculously there are no repercussions for him transforming and severely injuring the thugs. He also manages to take his own seriously injured partner from Virginia to Mississippi where his sister just happens to be.

There's a small spat between Tommy and Ton over the fact that Ton hasn't mated with Tommy. Then they happily return to the farm and proceed to have sex about every other page. I love sex like the next girl, but it got to the point that I was skimming. Some of the things were just not feasible. And can Tommy even walk? Because every time I turned around Ton was holding and carrying him. Tommy felt more like a baby then a man (even if he was a girlie man).

About half way in we discover at random that Adam Quinn is back in the picture. Adam Quinn is Tommy's abusive ex-lover who mysteriously made it out of prison. Adam has somehow managed to trespass the ranch, which is filled with a large number of werewolves. How this is possible I don't know. Even if they're sex-crazed, you would think werewolves who have superior scent would notice the strange odor of an intruder. They don't. In fact Adam even manages to shoot Ton, kill a horse, and shoot Tommy in the spine.

Oh the hospital scene. Tommy gets shot in the spine, but instead of being afraid about dying, he's afraid he won't be able to have sex anymore and that Ton won't want him. I'm sure someone would be afraid about that, but it's a problem someone would face after the initial "oh shit I might die".

Tommy doesn't think this though. And while the paramedics are trying to take care of him, Ton is lifting and holding Tommy AGAIN. I do believe that someone with a spinal injury you aren't supposed to move. And when the doctor finally sees them (at the super secret werewolf hospital), the doctor seems very unprofessional and doesn't seem to know what she's talking about. We then learn that Tommy will be able to heal and be perfectly normal once he has sex with Ton. Not if he's turned. He just has to have sex.

At this point I stopped.

The editing was poor. The writing was poor. It was a poor story. There was even a hidden link randomly thrown in to someone's blog. Not sure what that was about.

I kind of wanted my money back.

It has a very unique plot and possibility. If executed right it could have been great, but Vicktor Alexander fell very short. What was a possible great story became a cliched mess.

I usually don't say this, but save yourself the money.

2012 DNF:

Okay. I very rarely do this but I’m quitting right in the middle of this book. I just can’t bring myself to give a fuck about any of it. It’s not just the writing that’s abysmal; the storytelling itself is so full of holes that there’s nothing really left to hold it together.

I chanced to look at the beginning of the fourth book, since it apparently happens between the first and second one (which I am discarding here) and the first thing our “hero” says is a threat to either beat or rape his friend and co-worker if he doesn’t lighten up. So obviously it wasn’t an accident in the first volume; this reflects the author’s attitude.

There’s so much of the author’s personality in these books that for once I can honestly say that I don’t care for him as a person. Nor for his stories or characters or anything that happens to them (the brunt of it happens when we’re not looking, anyway). Nothing ever has consequences, time is a mess, and I just can’t stand it any more. Yeah, I could skim through the rest of this, but why should I? I get absolutely nothing out of this.

Pity about losing out on a new author, but it happens. Maybe in a decade or so he’ll have matured some. Hope springs eternal.

Perhaps most shocking of all was actually the dedication, since it appears that someone was editing this! :O … I don’t even… Or perhaps the author was just referring to his own edits. Because that’s just scary.

3.5 I had very high hopes for this book, as Tommy is my kind of character. He is unapologetic for who he is, an out, proud cross-dressing gay man. He rocks a skirt, loves a bra, wears amazing guyliner and make up and belts out Lady Gaga. He has a very nasty history hidden, and is fiercely protective of his guy, Ton (Anton). Add in the shifter aspect, and this should be the perfect book for me.

There is a lot I liked about it, in addition to all things Tommy. Ton is not as well developed as Tommy, but he definitely comes across as protective of his mate (and when he desperately wants Tommy to be proud of him, oh grabbed my heart). Richard and Vet make their appearance. I really like the Tate pack itself. When Tommy is injured by Adam, I really liked the way he would be healed (if only, if only).

My hopes for the story were brought down a bit by the cons of the story, which were more along the lines of the stalker ex-boyfriend, Adam, a truly nasty piece of work. He isn’t brought up until about halfway through the book, as a flashback, and then it seems he was put there and we got an info-dump. Tommy works at a club that he loves, and gives up everything to move to Texas with Ton, but then it seems he never gets to do anything but be eye candy there. I enjoyed reading Tommy packing his stuff.

This is an interesting series, and one I will continue.

This so far is the strongest of the Tate pack series. We meet Anton and Tommy at a time when they have already met, but have separated because it seems Tommy can't handle the thought of being mated for forever. Throw in a jealous ex boyfriend and you're in for a wild ride!
In this story you will encounter a very light mood filled with sunshine and laughter, and really hot sex thrown in the middle (those two are unstoppable!), contrasted dramatically with dark and violent scenes, that are quite shocking. But life is shocking sometimes, too.
As for the characters, Tommy is really lovable. I liked how the fact that he likes to cross-dress wasn't that important and made to be a major issue, but instead was just another facet of the character.
This book got me sitting on the edge of my chair biting nails I was so involved in the story! So I deem it good and worth reading!

I liked this, it was warm and fuzzy and had a decent plot - which I don't think was Viktor Alexander's intent.
Plenty of sex!
This looks like a good series to follow (stylin's of Lynn Hagen, Joyee Flynn, Stephani Hecht and Tymber Dalton)

The writing was fluent and the story worked well - paced nicely and kept the pages turning.
I felt the characters needed some more detail. The descriptions were often the same information, just written slightly differently each time. You came away liking the characters but not really knowing much other than surface details. This is why I have given this book 2 stars. I think the plot is good, but there also needs to be more spark and 3 dimensional qualities in the characters reflecting all the other parts that make up the whole of them and their relationship.

I still feel that the editing of this series needs to be a bit tighter - a few missing words, grammatical errors and incorrect spellings, and repetitive details all need weeding out.

A werewolf and a cross-dresser... can it get any better? Tommy and Anton (Ton, Ant) are mates although Tommy is not really sure this is a good idea. But Ton is patient and can convince his fated mate that he really, really wants to be with him. Everything could be perfect but Adam, Tommy's former boyfriend wants revenge and he stalks and threatens Tommy. Things get very dramatic when Adam snaps and threatens Tommy's life...
I like the Tate Pack series for their lively characters and really liked Inconceivable because it's a wonderful, heartwarming and on the other hand very exciting story! Read it!!!!!!!!

While this was better than the first, but it was still...I don't know.

I wanted more of a "fight" from Tommy to leave NYC. I wanted more of his Tammy Walks persona, since we NEVER saw it. Sure we saw him cross dressing, but that's not the same thing. Was it just because Tommy was Ton's mate that he didn't mind him being a cross dresser? Would he have found him attractive if he wasn't his mate?

Too much sex. What is with people not being able to keep it in their pants? Then the public show? Get a room! I am far from prude, but enough is enough.

I don't think I'll be moving on in this series.

I'll start out by saying that I only read this because I had bought it before I read the first book and I hate having unfinished books. That said, I went into it hoping the author's writing had improved. In the end though, I was just as disappointed as I was with the first.

My dislike for this book can be summed up quite quickly:
1)poor writing
2)poor editing
3)poor fact-checking
4)poor story telling
5)poor characterisation

I can say without a doubt that I will not be picking up the third book, despite its better reviews.

I really enjoyed this book. I am a shifter fan so there are not many shifter books that I don't like:) I liked how the author portrayed cross dressing Tommy. He wasn't ashamed of dressing like a woman and Ton had no issues with it either. There were a few instances where I thought the story should have been more serious but then I remembered this is a shifter book. Ton and Tommy were a cute couple.

It was a good and typical shifter book.

...yah... pretty aptly named. Better than the first book in the series. I do appreciate the sweetness of the characters, however ridiculous it is to wright men like that. V.A. took the opportunity to fix some of the holes from the first one, and even though this book has plenty of eye-roll worthy conveniences it at least attempts to explain bizarre occurrences like being able to heal a split spinal column (although not deafness?)... with sex no less (and biting). While I can appreciate the inventiveness and I can suspend my disbelieve enough to read it...I just cant suspend by biology degree enough to really like it.

Tommy Wilkins is perfectly happy living in New York. He’s a successful drag queen, Tammy Walks, and not only does he love his job he is able to show is more effeminate side without care. When Tommy visited his friend Richard in Texas he met the big, burly Wolf Shifter Anton Forrester. When Ton reveals his wolf to Tommy and tells Tommy he is his mate, Tommy is on the next plane back to New York. The last thing Tommy wants is to open his heart up to anyone ever again to be hurt, abused or left alone when they decide they don’t want him anymore. But Ton is relentless. He follows Tommy back to the big city and brings his man back home where he belongs. The only problem is, trouble follows.

I didn’t like this storyline as much as I liked the first book. This book jumped the fence and went completely porn on paper, seriously, I don’t think five minutes went by in this book without Ton and Tommy going at it like bunnies. There was some suspense with Tommy’s past catching up with him. Then there was the cross dressing aspect, and Tommy worrying about being fully accepted by Ton from now until the end of time. But these aspects of the story came across more like an afterthought. Almost like the author wrote a porn script then threw some drama, angst and life lessons in for good measure.

Sean Crisden returned to continue narrating the series and his performance was the only thing that kept me going after the first hour. I love his subtle tone inflections, the way he gets fully engrossed into the characters and truly becomes them while reading them. If you like stories that are all about the sex, then you’ll enjoy this one. Again, I’d have to recommend the audio book so you can at least enjoy Crisden’s stellar performance. Story wise I give this one 2 stars, but Crisden gains an extra notch.

When I first started reading nicely heated, semi-smutty male/male paranormal romance novels, I judged them pretty harshly. The plots, characters, and overall writing just didn't stand up to widely read urban fantasy authors (like Patricia Briggs), and the sex wasn't as sizzling as that found on the wide-range of free erotica. I rated this story pretty poorly because the plot was a bit formulaic and the writing weak, eventhough I was very excited to have a transgender main character.

Two years later, altering reading hundreds of m/m romance stories in the interim, I appreciate this book much more. As is common in the genre, the plot, some of the characters, and significant parts of the writing are a bit thin and not very strong. The sex, however, is plenty nice, and the main characters are plenty interesting - perhaps not as nuanced as mainstream fiction but certainly compelling enough to add substance and heat to the sizzle, and provide a firm enough base for an interesting story.

However, where this book really shines is in having a transgender character so front and center. On the one hand, having lived with a transsexual friend, Tommy seemed way too stereotypical and not particularly believable to me. However, now that I expect and often appreciated some stereotypical flavor in escapist m/m romances, I appreciate Tommy much more, and am able to enjoy him as a fun-loving, sweet, entertaining and even a bit endearing.

This book is like a stone that has still to be polished. It reads very much like a first draft and I felt a bit frustrated because the good things of this book don't get enough attention. It's as if the urgency of the story telling trampled upon the writing and the plot. There are a few editing and grammar issues that I'm sure would have been caught with more proofreading. I also felt that the story was a bit derivative, there wasn't anything really new in the concept of the pack, the mating, the shifter universe.

There were two things that I really appreciated. First of all Tommy, the human of the couple. He is a cross-dresser, and that's not very common in the books I've read so far, and his energy and his strength literally sprang from the page. Then I liked the way the relationship between Tommy and his shifter mate Ton was shaped. Tommy doesn't submit to Ton in a supernatural way, it's not in his personality and the bonding doesn't change that. He sometimes contradicts Ton and this triggers Ton's need to make him submit, but Tommy won't do that. This is an unusual dynamic and it also makes for a lot of hot sex.

I think the author should try to be more patient, slow down and try to paint his story with finer strokes.

Loved Tommy! The Tate pack is so wonderful. They love everyone for themselves now matter what the "world" might think. This is in the same style as some other authors in my "light, fluffy" reads. The plot was cute and Anton was a loving partner for Tommy. There were editing problems but nothing in my opinion that detracted from the story. This is rated based on my own personal taste. The story was light and deep reaching, but it was a good read for me when I needed a boost:)

Re-read: This was a light read and as such didn't really have the depth that some expect in a story. I liked it for its lightness. I want a read like this when I'm feeling down. It is a boost. The story is pretty simple but the idea of people that just accept everyone for who they are with no judgment is a wonderful thought. There is a little drama but it adds to the sweetness of the story line. I did think this time read it that it wasn't as good for me as I previously wrote but I also think I wasn't in the right frame of mind to really enjoy it.

I quite enjoyed Tommy. He was spunky. Which was fresh. It gets tiring having the less dominate partner let the other take care of everything. A few times when Ton picked Tommy up and carried him, I wanted to yell at him to just let Tommy walk! (Mind you, a few of those times, Tommy was injured and it was better he didn't walk.) Tommy had fire and wasn't going to sit back and let Ton do everything. He wanted to protect Ton as much as Ton wanted to protect him. And despite being mates, it wasn't instant love. They were uncertain and it was very sweet watching them think and work through their feelings. Made when they realized they loved each other that much sweeter.

The only thing I wished there was more of was the baddie, Adam. I would have loved to see into his twisted mind more. We got the basics, but I would love a few more scenes that fleshed him out as the evil, bad guy even more.

This was a quick and easy read.

Ton knows that Tommy is his mate. When Tommy runs back to NYC Ton thinks it is because the other man has seen him in wolf form. When he tracks Tommy down he discovers his thought are wrong. Tommy likes to become Tammy and dress in feminine clothes. He is worried that Ton wont want this important side of him.

Ton actually loves his man in all ways so very soon they are heading back to the pack ranch to start their lives as mates. Of course there just happens to be a deranged ex boyfriend that has not only escaped prison but has managed to track them down.

Both guys are convinced they are not falling in love with each other like in those romance novels they will not admit to ever reading. Both guys have actually fallen head over heals for each other and when the ex causes chaos and death it will be a fight for them to survive.

I loved Ton & Tommy they both were amazing men and an amazing loving couple. VV has a gift with words and a gift for writing something a reader never wants to put down. I read book two first because I wanted to finish this one after all the sneaky peeks I got from his blog. I loved the book & I can't wait to read more of his work.

I bought the two Tate pack books today and so far read one. Looking forward to seeing the rest get published so I can expand my book collection with his books. I loved this book and wish I could be at GRL with him to give him a big hug and sisterly kiss to the cheek. Amazing writer and I am truly not just saying that for my health.

Five stars wish I could give it 10 stars I enjoyed it that much.

I really like Tommy's character a lot. He doesn't want people to judge him as less than a man just because he has a slight build and he likes to dress up in nice, slinky clothes, which often happen to include skirts and panties. So what? Who cares? Not Ton, his wolf mate. Ton accepts Tommy for who he is, though Tommy has a few mental blocks to get over before he gets his happy ending. And a physical one in the form of his ex-lover and current psychopathic stalker, Adam.

I didn't connect quite as well with Ton, but possessive, claiming wolf shifters usually make me happy, and Ton certainly fit that bill.

I enjoy the inclusiveness of the Tate Pack and look forward to more stories with them. =)

Tommy is definitely a character all to himself...

This is the second book in The Tate Pack Series. A little more dark than the first book, Unthinkable, Inconceivable goes a little deeper with the emotional aspect of things than the first but nothing profound.

The bad guy is hatable. The sex FUCKtastical. The characters lovable.

A few grammitcal errors along with punctuation errors and a word here or there missing is the only thing that peeves me. I dislike this so.

It's short (read it in about forty-five minutes be warned though I'm a fast reader ex. 7th Harry Potter book in less than a day) but its cute.

Tommy definitely makes you smile.

With Affection,

I read this series out of order - I started with Unassumed and enjoyed that so much I picked up the first two books. Inconceivable is Tommy/Tammy's story - I loved him; he's funny, firey and interesting. The story starts after Tommy has already met Ton, his shifter mate, and has headed back to New York. Ton wants Tommy to come back to Texas with him; but life doesn't run smoothly, not helped by the ex-boyfriend from hell!
I think this is the best of the series so far although I like all of them. There are editing errors, but the writing and story flowed so well that I sort of tuned everything else out.

I can definitely see why everyone loves Tommy so much. He is fun and very bold in his living. It's very refreshing and I loved that at the end of the story he proved that he was just as strong as his cowboy shape-shifting mate Ton.

That seems to be a common occurrence with Vicktor Alexander's books, the mates are just as strong and capable of saving themselves as their shifter cowboys. I love that he writes them that way.

This story just didn't work for me... at all! I shall leave it at that... I fear this will be the second and last book of this series that I will be reading. My brain just can't take the horror that was the proofreading for these books... Perhaps I will give this author another try some day in the future... perhaps.
