This series sure is a lot of fun. Now we've got F. Scott Fitzgerald and L.M. Montgomery playing villains and it's interesting to see which powers they have in relation to their real-life counterparts.
One thing that I actually kind of like is how each volume ends seriously and usually with some sort of cliffhanger. That really makes me want to keep reading.
1. I LOVE THIS VOLUME!!! We get to know more about Miyazawa Kenji, an earnest boy from countryside who possesses a superhuman strength. He is really cute and naive, and I love how he always spreads positive vibes to everyone.
Be not defeated by the rain. Nor by the wind. Bested not by lead pipe, nor knife, nor metal bat, be strong in body. Unfettered by desire, nor roused to anger, always with a quite smile. Such a person... -This part is taken from the original poem by the real life Miyazawa Kenji, and some parts are added to fit the character in the manga.
2. A chapter in this manga is written in Higuchi's pov, and I teared up while reading it. As a Port Mafia member who does not possess any supernatural ability, it is hard for her to make any achievement and contribute to the organisation. Yet, she stays alongside Akutagawa and is willing to sacrifice her life for her senpai. What a strong woman! P/s: Akutagawa, please treat her nicely, okay?
"Have you ever considered if this is a suitable profession for you?"
3. New arc is here!!! The Guild is coming to attack the Armed Detective Agency after the president refuses a proposal from the Guild leader. Atsushi faces a new character that resents him because of 'something'. As the main character, Atsushi's development is progressing in a smooth and reasonable way. When something difficult happens, he wants to run away and ask for help from others as he feels it is impossible to solve it by himself. However, this time he has no choice but to think of the strategy and do it on his own. Will he succeed? How did he get the motivation to do it himself? This volume will show you something, and someone new!!
*When something bad happens, Atsushi always rely on Dazai to solve it. He'll say something like, "I need to ask Dazai about this," or "Dazai is the person that can solve this." The reason is possibly because Dazai is the one who saved Atsushi from his poor condition before joining the agency, and Dazai has shown his intelligent side. These made Atsushi really looks up to him.
"No matter how difficult a battle gets, there is always a logically optimal solution. Particularly in your most desperate hour. Make sure you don't forget that."
3.5 « It’ll be quite fun to watch your face of despair when you get caught by Anne ».
« You…are wrong about one thing. I’m not strong, not am I popular. It’s fair to say I bring calamity upon others simply by being alive. So I understand your envy and hatred towards others.
To tell the truth I dont wan’t you to fail your mision ! I don't want you to loose your home. But…I’m too weak and too inexperienced so I can’t think of any other way ! »
« No matter how difficult the situation is, there is always theoretically a suitable solution. The more you feel like giving up amidst the confusion, the more you mustn’t forget that ».
Bungou Stray Dogs has blown itself away with this volume. We have yet more characters, characters that we can understand to a point, more drama, action and excitement which never gets boring. We learn yet more about more members of the Armed Detective Agency, we learn more about the Port Mafia. We meet another group.
So much happens in this volume of BSDogs and yet, it seems like barely anything in all the excitement, dragging us along and making us hand on every frame of the book. The artwork in this volume seems to have reached it's peak, and some truly beautiful character and ability designs are give to us, artwork that makes my breath hitch and a plot line to go with them.
The plot line itself is kept the same, with an insert chapter of another character, more taken away from the current plot line we're following throughout the manga.
Atsushi has grown in character development, mostly because of Kyouka, however, we see a bit of his weakness sliding back through here, which was a disappoint to me.
However, this amazing manga still gets a solid 5/5 starts for me, no matter what.
The pacing is a lot better than the previous book and the stories feel a lot less like filter, good job.
PS: but please don't you ever get me started with all the giggling and fangirl's exclaiming I have done for all these Bungō Stray Dogs fanfics (Edagawa Rampo/Edgar Allan Poe is a thing, mind you. XD)
I am kind of wondering what I am missing right now with this series. There are so many characters, it is so hard to keep track of the people. There is not enough comedy in in this series for me I think as well. I have a few more from the library but I am thinking I won't read them right now...
Penekanan diberikan kepada watak-watak antagonis which is awesome. Excited nak baca volume seterusnya!
*Reread 12/4/2021* I love Atsushi discovering Ken's skill. It never gets old. Ken is such a cutie.
*Reread 2/8/2020* Chuuya trying to drunk call Dazai is my favorite thing lol
*Original Review 1/11/2020* I feel like these go by so quick. The more I read the more I want to pick up the light novels. This world is so interesting and the concept of all the characters being named after authors is so intriguing. I can't get over how much I love this series.
2nd read my heart goes out to higuchi and how underutilized she is except to obsess and slave herself for akutagawa, and also for lucy ASGR YOU WILL PAY FOR THE REGRESSION HER CHARACTER WENT THROUGH WHEN SHE'S REALLY COOL IN THE EARLIER VOLUMES
1st read the ending of each volume always manages to make me 😲
So no chuuya? hehe I’m kidding....I rlly love kenji and tanizaki (and obviously dazai LMAO) so this volume was a lot of fun! It’s really interesting to see how each character works at their job differently.
IV. (#13-16) | tagline: boss pervert is my new fetish | Boss Pervert
Dazai is no longer human.
Shit just got real, huh?
