Meditations and exercises encourage readers to step outside themselves and observe their reactions to various life situations as a first step in ridding themselves of negative mental states. Author Christopher Titmuss calls this an important way to enhance one’s sense of self-confidence and serenity. He places special emphasis on the virtue of patience, discusses ways to develop patience, and enumerates situations in which people’s patience is tested. These include everything from awaiting an important telephone call to anticipating the outcome of serious medical tests. Advice is presented on ways to create in oneself a sense of steadiness in the face of uncertainty, thereby maintaining a peaceful state of mind. Instructions for breathing exercises are also provided as important means of maintaining emotional balance and self-awareness. Beautiful color photographs employ images that focus on the theme of serenity.
Mindfulness- A brilliant read! This book has excerpts from Buddha’s teachings that focuses on its teachings, techniques, precepts, ways, habits, including exercises, which if start to imbibe or follow then probably will understand the true meaning behind mindfulness. It’s a great start for someone who is interested to venture in this path!
Mindfulness for everyday living is a beneficial read to a very simple concept – focusing on the present moment. The book covers five major sections: mindfulness of energy, mindfulness of activities, mindfulness of inner life, mindfulness of five precepts, seven ways for inner change, and mindfulness of spiritual experiences. The author introduces the basic principles of mindfulness and the benefits it can bring. He also provides simple exercises that can be incorporated into your life straight way. Finally, there is plenty of help and advice on dealing with emotional issues, arguments, and relationships.
The first book I read on mindfulness and it must have done something right for me to continue my pursuit of the concept to eventually get to the place I am today teaching mindfulness and meditation to others. It is a very simple read but it provides just the right introduction to get you hooked and point you in the right direction of where to go next.
I just am not interested in reading this right now, maybe ever. It taught me maybe one thing. Also geez, 7 months reading to 51 pages? yeah...someone please make a good meaningful book soon, thanks bye
I read this book every day for a year and a half, and I love it. A fantastic, non-preachy way to learn about and practice various aspects of mindfulness a little bit at a time. I highly recommend it.
Interesting book looking at mindfulness from its Buddhist roots... Would have liked to see some more exercise examples in than what it had and a little less 'waffle'
I've read several books about mindfulness but this is definitely the best. Clearly set out and accessible with beautiful photos, it is a book I shall be keeping for future reference.
Not a bad starting point into mindfulness...definitely set up easily enough for a newcomer... but it's not the best guide to look into for getting started if searching for more than some basics...
