I'm new to the Harem / LitRPG thing (If I'd known more about LitRPG when I wrote Shadow, I might have incorporated more elements of that into it). I have a FT job, so I work on this when I can. Hopefully the next one will be even better. https://stryvant.blogspot.com/
Not that good, but ends better. up from 2 stars Harem / Urban fantasy / non-graphic sex scenes Two things kinda bugged me with this book. The bad dialog runs the gambit from klunky to cringe. The second was the MC starts out as a likeable guy, but gets major attitude the minute he comes into a little power. Seriously, the schit this guys says to women makes him a creep, but the women in this book swoon. Yeah, he somewhat gets it together and back under control before the end of the book. His reactions are pretty believable, and fairly tame for a teen adult, but it still soured me a bit. This might seem overly harsh but I kept wondering if the likeable guy we met in chapter 1 was an act. This had me doubting and second guessing everything else in the book and it took me out of the story. It does settle down in the last quarter, and I'm reading book 2 if that's any indication. -Oh one odd thing, the cover on my Kindle version is exactly as above but set at night and lit up with the stadium lights. I don't think they are different versions just different cover art, but who knows.
Enjoyable enough to read in one 5 hour session earning a late Saturday night to early Sunday morning disruption to my sleep schedule. Liking the story, but a bit depressing with all the bad stuff happening to the MC. Feels a bit slice of life as there is no real action in the storyline so far, just the MC trying to live the best of his young adult life while being constantly screwed over and targeted. Seems to have good friends and even good girlfriend(s). Personally would prefer a more limited sex lifestyle in these books, but it’s not my call.
I was very surprised to find this book as love John/Man's stuff and had not heard of a new series happening. I have read every title that he has out and have enjoyed them immensely. So why wasn't I informed about this? Mr Van Story has mentioned that this book did not do as well as quickly as some of his other books and it almost feels as though he got shadow banned. Why is it that Amazon lets me know months in advance that other authors I follow have a new book coming out but I find out about this one many weeks after it's released and then only because another author mentioned it? Especially after reading everything that this author has written with my kindle unlimited account. Anyway, great book as always, read it in one sitting and as always the only criticism w have is the length of time I have to wait until the next one comes out
This is a very frustrating book. He doesn't really ever learn anything about being a werewolf. Not really. This book didn't really have anything to do with being a werewolf at all actually. This was almost like depression porn. Except the main character has sex, so you're not supposed to find a depressin
This was a very well written, interesting story. And it was also maybe the most unsatisfying story I've read in a decade. Maybe the literally worst ending I've read in years and years.
Literally nothing gets resolved. Actually nothing. No real progress is made on anything either. Bad stuff happens, bad stuff keeps happening. More bad stuff happens. None of the people committing massive consistent felonies are even mildly inconvenienced. Not one of them. More bad stuff continues to happen to the main character
And then the book ends.
But I think because the main character gets laid a lot, you're not supposed to pay attention to the fact that everything that happens to him in this book that isn't sexual is horrible, obviously and massively illegal, and Also pretty easily fixed with a call to the press, or a couple YouTube videos going semi-viral in the local community
I don't know how to feel about this book. I'm giving it four stars. Because it was good. It was well written. It was just deeply deeply deeply unsatisfying
Genuinely don't know if I'll ever read another book by this author again. Because I will never want to read this type of writing again. Not the writing that was good, which was 80% of the book. But the writing that was terrible. Which was the fact that nothing was resolved.
Really expected to love it, but a little slow and seems to end way to abruptly. Think this is the first Stryvant book that didn't immediately grab me and have me finished in an hour or so, definitely the first that left me feeling iffy on the book and future books. Seems a lot like "Black Friday" the first Valens book, but less progress, like it was the first portion of the book rather than a full first book. Nothing is resolved just everything left as a big nebulous mess. Hopefully book 2 will be a lot more involved, especially since the authors note says this is aimed at being a 5 book series, which doesn't seem like it will have enough time to develop with book one covering a few weeks maybe a month of time.
Not sure i will read any of the authors work going forward
The writing structure and grammar was all great but the book over all was not great and quite depressing, its like all the crazy sex was supposed to make up for the fact all this bad stuff happens to the mc and keep happening to him till the end of the book with no resolution. And I must say I did laugh at the crazy sex scenes. Like just showing up at a teachers house like hey let bang and ps I now live here.....thank god the ex stripper/teacher is totally cool with that..... just insanity so I think ill pass on any future work from this author.
Another solid book by this author. This one is kind of a slow burn while the author builds the backstory and suspense. Who wants Joshua out of commission and why? Who is pushing Lt Seattle to continue to harass Josh...and WHY? Whats going on in the Wichita Falls paranormal society, and how does it relate to Josh an\or his possibly murdered family? This one ended entirely too soon, and now I can't wait for the next one...
I have read your books for years. The story is great the interplay between characters was easy and intelligent your books are amazing, portal intelligent, valens, classic, & well ding ding ding winner winner Chicken dinner. You are a great author and your audio books have kept my spits up and I share them with my son. Please keep up the good work. There are many who are greatful, best wishes from Kentucky
This is a good start toa werewolf series. If you liked the Valens Legacy, you will loke this one. It is not set in the same universe as Valens, so we get to explore a new universe and paradigm. I highly recommend checking this out. Book 2 is already written and the author expects to have it published in a month.
I happily stumbled across this author a few years ago and I haven't looked back. So far all of his work has been entertaining, well written, and well edited. I appreciate his mix of Supernatural with the mundane world and concerns and so far all of his stories have been enjoyable and intriguing. I'm looking forward to the next installment in this new story arc.
I have read this book in one session, despite it now being well after midnight and we'll past my bedtime. That is how tightly it has held my attention! It is a brilliant start to a new series and I am now keen to read the next book in the series. I highly recommend this story.
After how much I enjoyed Wolfhounds, I was a little reluctant to start this one, but I was not disappointed. The pacing is great and the dialogue and characters have consistent and natural flow. Great job Stryvant and please continue to entertain me with your stories
One of my favorite authors, have pretty much read all his book. His Valens series I started on when they first came out, own and have read multiple whens when I need some well written, well thought out reading after so much of the crap on Kindle. Excellent presentation, great editing, going to be a great series.
Like all of his books, the story flows like liquid gold. Pulls you in from the first page and then suddenly the ride’s over. Damn! This book needed to be longer…
If the occasional spice offends you, just skip ahead a few pages. You won’t regret the time spent.
I consider it a interesting twist on the werewolf story. Orphaned at 6 and wearing a necklace that had to be cut off at 18 due to being accused of armed robbery. When he had an alibi that multiple people would testify to I call bull shit£ keep Writing what you write that’s what I read under all your names ENJOY!
Looking forward to the next book unfortunately the author seems to be becoming a little unreliable unfortunate but if they can’t produce, they don’t deserve the attention.
What better way for the author to reveal the mechanics of a new mystical system than to have the MC discover the secrets in steps. I favor adventure over erotic details. Looking forward to the next volume.
Even though much of this book is setup for the series, it's still an enjoyable read and, those of us who read this author KNOW he's NOT going to disappoint!
I can see this happening in the way the system works now. Too much money in high school sports. Not all people like this but the way you have twisted the supernatural into the plot is going to be a lot of fun. Keep up the good work and have fun.
i enjoyed the story. the norse influence was well done and i look forward to exploring that more. The mystery aspect is a good hook. i like the “play it smart “ angle for a MC.
Another great story from an awesome author. Following a young man that has to overcome much that would crush most people. He discovers he is a werewolf and try’s to understand what it all means.
Jan is such a great author and I’m so glad they started a new series. It’s very well written and edited. It’s fun, engaging, and I very much like all the characters so far. Glad I can jump into book two right away!
It starts off with another great book series by one of my favorite authors. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I hope the author comes up with more books soon.
Good storyline and decent characters with some depth the makes it very relatable except for the beheading of the MC’s entire family. Looking forward to the next book.
I would have hoped to at least seen a teaser for the next book as I tore through this one and was left wanting more. I had previously read several in another series, can you say Sean, but fell away from it. Looking for the next one Mr Author
