This book messed with my brain in the best way possible.

Deus Deceptor feels intelligent without trying too hard, and unsettling without relying on cheap twists. The tension builds slowly but intentionally, and by the end I found myself replaying earlier scenes realizing how carefully things had been constructed from the start.

I especially loved that the book respected the reader enough not to over-explain everything. It leaves room for interpretation, which made the experience even more immersive for me.

Definitely recommend for readers who like psychological depth, layered storytelling, and books that linger in your head after you finish them.

From the moment I saw the cover, I knew The Deus Deceptor was going to be a wild ride, and DB Warren absolutely delivered. This isn't just your standard thriller; it’s a visceral, high-stakes exploration of power, deception, and the "god complex" that fuels the world's most dangerous players.

What I Loved:
The Atmosphere: Warren has a gift for building a sense of impending doom. The "golden" opulence of the setting clashes perfectly with the gritty, dark undercurrents of the plot.

The Protagonist/Antagonist Dynamic: The blurred lines between who is the "deceiver" and who is the "deceived" kept me guessing until the final pages. It’s rare to find a thriller that challenges your moral compass quite like this one.

The Pacing: It starts with a slow burn that quickly accelerates into a breakneck sprint. I finished the last hundred pages in one sitting, it’s a genuine "just one more chapter" kind of book.

The Verdict:
If you enjoy thrillers that lean into the dark side of ambition and are laced with a bit of a "larger-than-life" cinematic feel, you need to pick this up. It’s provocative, polished, and deeply unsettling in the best way possible.
Highly recommended for fans of psychological thrillers and high-stakes political intrigue.

I wasn’t sure if this book was for me at first, but it kept reeling me in. It grabbed my attention from the first chapter, and I was not expecting that ending. Dark historical thriller tied to Christianity. Would recommend to anyone who likes darker topics and is a history buff.

It is always exciting when Amazon delivers a new book to me. As an avid reader and member of many book clubs online, I first noticed this unique cover of the Deus Deceptor by author DB Warren. I have never seen anything like it, so yes it was the cover that got my attention and then the "hook" which is "What if someone cloned the DNA on the Shroud of Turin and got a terrifying result?"

I come from a devout Catholic Family so the dark religious conspiracy genre also caught my attention. Then I read the book's Amazon description which made it clear it was a historical thriller and spanned a period of 2000 years. I thought to myself "that's a lot for an author to bite off?" I wonder if it is any good? OMG this book "possessed me" until I finished reading it; and perhaps in a way it still does. Right away the author shows no restraint in any of his descriptions and characters. I could feel their pain, their fear, their frail humanism under crisis throughout the ages as if I was a first hand witness to their tribulations. This author illustrates the point that we are all part of the collective consciousness which is responsible for our state of affairs throughout the ages and even now. I don't want to spoil the ending for everyone but Jayne's candid conversation in Chapter 18 with the devil still clings to my psyche. This book has triggered me to question my own belief systems accumulated since childhood. It lies testament to the power of the written word. I give 6 out of 5 stars to this potentially controversial new author and his book The Deus Deceptor. It was truly a wild ride. Stephanie D.

The Deus Deceptor was unlike anything I’ve ever read before. It was gripping and wild and had me on the edge of my chair the entire time. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs to get out of their reading slump, a stand alone thriller with religious aspects, sure to keep you in its hooks to the end. Thank you to DB Warren for trusting me to with this masterpiece!

This book doesn’t just cross a line—it redraws the map in blood and gold.

The Deus Deceptor is what happens when faith, history, and science are thrown into a locked room… and something ancient claws its way out smiling. From the very first page, you can feel it watching you—this slow, deliberate unraveling of truth that turns sacred ground into a chessboard and humanity into pieces already in motion.

The premise alone is enough to hook you—DNA from the Shroud of Turin, cloned into something divine… or so they think. But what emerges isn’t a miracle. It’s a reckoning. And the way D.B. Warren builds that reveal? Chilling in the most addictive way.

What really elevates this beyond your typical religious thriller is the scope. This isn’t just one timeline—it’s a sprawling, 2,000-year tapestry of manipulation, violence, and carefully planted lies. Every era feels intentional, like stepping stones leading straight to something inevitable and terrifying. The historical threads don’t just add flavor—they tighten the noose.

And then there’s him.

Abaddon isn’t just a villain—he’s a presence. Seductive, calculated, and disturbingly rational. The kind of antagonist who doesn’t need to shout because he already knows he’s won. By the time you reach the final chapters, you’re not asking if he succeeds… you’re asking yourself why it makes a twisted kind of sense.

The tone? Dark. Unapologetically so. This book doesn’t flinch, doesn’t soften, and definitely doesn’t comfort. It leans fully into its blasphemous, unsettling questions and dares you to keep reading anyway.

And that ending…

No neat bow. No heroic last-minute salvation. Just the quiet, horrifying realization that the game was never yours to win.

If The Da Vinci Code lit the spark and The Omen fed the nightmare, The Deus Deceptor is the wildfire that consumes everything in between.

This isn’t just a thriller—it’s a beautifully orchestrated descent. And somehow, you’ll enjoy every second of the fall.

I received an ARC copy of The Deus Deceptor by D.B. Warren, and this one definitely surprised me.

Going into it, I expected a dark thriller, but I didn’t realize how intense and layered it was going to be. The opening chapter alone is shocking and sets a very heavy tone right away. It’s one of those starts that makes you sit back for a second like… wait, what did I just read.

What makes this book different is that it’s not just telling a story, it’s exploring bigger ideas about truth, control, and how easily reality can be shaped depending on who’s in power. It moves through different time periods, which adds to that feeling that everything is connected in ways you don’t fully understand at first.

There’s definitely a philosophical layer to it, especially around the idea of deception and whether what we believe is actually real. I liked that it made me think instead of just passively reading.

That being said, this is not an easy or light read. It’s graphic at times and leans into darker subject matter, so it won’t be for everyone. But if you like books that push boundaries, make you question things, and keep you slightly unsettled the whole time, this is one you’ll want to pick up.

Overall, it’s bold, different, and definitely sticks with you after you put it down.

*The Deus Receptor* by DB Warren was a refreshing change from the genres I normally read. This science fiction thriller kept me guessing the entire time, and I was never quite sure where the story was headed next. Beyond being entertaining and suspenseful, the book also leaves you with interesting ideas to think about long after finishing it. A thought-provoking and enjoyable read for anyone looking to try something different.

This book is the best example of how Al cannot yet match human intelligence and creativity... There is so much depth, feeling, and perspective in this book that makes the reader stop and think about the stories we all have been told, the manipulations we have all endured, and the consequences of the lies we have consumed. For me it was a real page turner. I look forward to this author's next offering!

I love this book! Much Darker and Sexier than Dan Brown or Steven King but much of the same qualities. Touched all my hot buttons on several levels, plus looks controversial on my coffee table when people come over and ask me what it is about. Great conversation starter... Five stars !

This book is deliciously naughty... It goes after the big institutions including religion but not in a preachy way but through the eyes and experiences of its very human and often inhumane characters... I REALLY hope someone makes this into a movie!

A book with a "content warning"? That's unusual and it really got me interested. I was not disappointed... Holy smokes this book has something for everyone. My favorite read of 2026
