A magical romantic comedy from bestselling author Kirsty McManus
Art gallery manager Rachel always wondered what would have happened if she hadn’t divorced her first husband, Frankie. So when her cousin Kurt offers his time-travelling compound to explore whether her previous decisions were the correct ones, she’s curious to see if he’s just pranking her. But with her bestie Anna also claiming the compound is real, she tries it for herself… and ends up in 1999.
Tracking down Frankie is easier than expected, but it also opens a can of worms Rachel isn’t ready for. And when her second husband, Jarvis, contacts her in the present day to tell her about an official letter she’s received, she starts to wonder whether she can handle two exes at once.
With a little time travel added to the mix, will it make things clearer? Or more complicated than she could have ever imagined?
Loved it, as I did all of the previous novels in this sunny Australian time travel series. When I got news it was soon coming out, I had to pick it up! It's such an easy read, it was over all too soon.
In brief, twice divorced Rachel gets a chance to use Anna's stash of time travel compound to return to 1999 and get a different insight into Jarvis and Frankie, the men she married and divorced. There's a short trip to Scotland, too, and a mystery that contributed in a major way to her breakup with Jarvis. Jarvis's lips are sealed no matter how often she pleads for an explanation so she investigates on her own helped by the time travel compound and turns up more answers than she anticipated. And, yes, there are sweet romantic feelings to explore for a happy ending along with some nostalgic references to life in 1999.
If you haven't read the earlier books in the series or maintain only a hazy memory of their specifics ((I was in the second camp), don't focus too much on the first few chapters and then settle into Rachel's story.
Book #4 of the 90's series. It's not as fun going down memory lane. Albeit a little unbelievable, with this "Youth Compound". Does anyone really want to go back to their high school days? Yikes! No thanks! Rachel uses the compound, goes back to 1999. She meets her 2nd ex husband. Just after finding out, IRL, that they inherited a Scottish Castle together! IRL, Rachel just met up with her first ex...Frankie. seems he's already thinking of up & moving closer to Rachel, when she has not even said she wants to try to get back together. The castle is great, it helps her learn why Jarvis was the way he was during their short marriage, which was why she left him. Now she sees the real Jarvis and they start to make plans about the Castle. They even take the compound together.
So good! I've loved the 90s Flashback series and this was a spinoff from that. And what a fun read! Light-hearted in just the right way, heartwarming at just the right moments. And, well, it's all, you know... complicated. Very complicated! I liked Rachel and felt her doubts and worries were very realistic, even though of course time travel isn't real. But it was done in such a way that I felt entertained throughout. I did have to keep track of time. But it was a great book that I highly recommend, do first read the series it spun off from, it makes this more fun to read. I found Rachel wondering what it would have been like if she’d never have divorced Frankie a good premise for this novel.
I found the part about the compound silly, and thought that they could have found another way to do the time travel. I liked the references to the 90s, but I found the characters not well developed.
I liked the feeling of going down memory lane and nostalgia. I’m interested in the other books,
Thanks to Kirsty MCManus.

This is book 4 in McManus' The 90's Flashback series and a wonderful addition to the series. It can be read as a standalone - which is good as I'm new to McManus and this series, but I absolutely loved it. This book focus' on Rachel. I adored the nostalgia of the 90's that this book brought about. I found it captivating and smooth flowing, and I can't wait for more from McManus!

I've loved the first few books in the series which had Anna as the main character; now, this installment with the protagonist being Rachel has totally lived up to my ideas for what to expect - sweet characters who are easy to relate to, fun time travel elements, an interesting plot, and a clean story set in a wonderful world! I'm hoping the arrival of the next book in the series is not long in the future!
Rachel is offered a potion to revisit her past in a dream and she takes it wondering about her first husband and why they didn’t last but she keeps running into her second ex-husband. It’s further complicated by the castle they inherit together. The story was a little all of the place between the past and the present. I don’t know that I’d want to go back and experience my past again.
I really could relate to Rachel. Wanting to know if past decisions would change things now. She gets her chance. I loved the irony of her going back into the 1990s. It was a lot of fun to see the flashbacks. I enjoyed this story. It was very unique.
