The Legacy of Destiny #1
Forged in Flames and Chaos
Cassandra is twenty-four and living an ordinary life—one that never quite feels like her own.
Despite loyal friends and a meaningful career, the feeling of being an imposter clings to her, like she’s standing on the wrong side of her own existence.
During a visit to her mother, Cassandra discovers a hidden necklace—ancient, winged, and impossible to ignore. The moment she touches it, everything changes.
The necklace awakens something within her, offering answers she never knew she was searching for—and dangers she never imagined.
Will Cassandra face the truth of what she is becoming, or will the flames consume her before she can claim her fate?

About the author
Nicoline Sommer
3 books17 followersI am a 26-year-old author from Denmark, writing fantasy because I genuinely love the genre. I write character-driven stories with a strong focus on emotion, relationships, and immersive worlds that are allowed to unfold over time. For me, writing has always been about curiosity and connection—about letting the characters shape the story rather than forcing everything into a rigid plan.
Forged in Flames and Chaos is my debut novel and the first book in The Legacy of Destiny Series, a planned seven-book fantasy series. Book 1.5, The Hunter and the Crown, will be released on February 28, 2026.
Set in a world ruled by crowns, prophecy, and ancient magic, the series follows one female standing at the centre of a legacy forged in fire and lies. Desired and feared in equal measure, she is drawn into a web of forbidden love, political betrayal, and truths meant to stay buried. As alliances fracture and destiny tightens its grip, every choice carries a cost—and every sacrifice leaves a mark.
If you enjoy fantasy that takes its time, focuses on character, and builds strong emotional connections, I hope you will enjoy The Legacy of Destiny Series.
Because some legacies are not meant to be claimed.
And some destinies refuse to be escaped.

is hands down the best book I have read all year and honestly, it’s my current favourite book of all time.
From the very first chapter I was completely gripped. There was no slow build, no waiting to “get into it” I was in immediately. The pacing, the tension, the atmosphere… it all just worked.
I fell in love with every single character. They felt real, layered, and impossible not to root for. The emotional depth mixed with the intensity of the story made it impossible to put down. I kept telling myself “just one more chapter” and suddenly hours had passed I actually stayed up all night reading it and then almost finished it I forced myself to go to sleep and refused to read anymore as I really didn’t want it to finish it so soon but I ended up finishing it the day after!!!
This book made me feel everything. Excitement, heartbreak, hope, chaos all of it. It’s rare for a story to hook me this quickly and hold me the entire way through, but this one absolutely did.
I am beyond excited for the rest of the series because if this is the standard, we are in for something incredible.

This book was amazing to read. Nicoline has created a world like I had never seen before. Mixing history and fantasy while writing a woman struggling with ptsd is a real challenge that Nicoline was able to accomplish with no problem. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series, which I am sure will be as delightful as the first one, and might even become one of my fav series. Never stop writing my friend !

If you liked 'Outlander' and 'Ruthless boys of the Zodiac' - you should definitely read this one!!
Characters: First of all, I loved how the fmc was Danish! She is not a fragile female; she speaks up, she is curious and openminded, and her friendships are so wholesome! The characters are diverse and have such good personalities. Even the ones you want to slap 😂 You can really feel who they are, they are all layered and likeable in their own way. I also love the personal growth and how well thought everything is.
Plot: Interesting and different plot! I don't want to spoil anything, but i really liked the magical concept and the world it's set in. It's so effing cool!!! We got secrets, tension, drama, action and history.
Writing: Easy to understand and immerse yourself in. It is fast paced and descriptive, and very character driven, which i love!
Overall:
4,5 ⭐️
You can tell it has potential, but also that it's the first book in the series. I think the next one is gonna be a 5⭐️ for me, when I understand more of the magical and political system. Either way, i will read the rest of the series 😍 I need to know more after that ending !!
Tropes:
- "Good girl" (yeah ok, not a trope, but still ❤️🔥)
- slow burn
- time travel
- forced proximity
- enemies to lovers (at some point 👀)
- magical school
- dark academia

Men kemien… KEMIEN 😮🔥

I absolutely loved this book! From the first chapter I was hooked on Cassandra’s journey and the book as a whole! The story just hooks you in right from the very beginning. This book is not a slow burn, it starts face and keeps the tension going throughout.
The characters are developed throughout the book and you get a feel that you know them and are part of the story. I genuinely loved each character and left wanting to know more of their story. Reading this book made me feel an array of emotions from tension, excitement, shock and the whole chaos of the story.
No part of the book feels that it is rushed and all the character relationships feel authentic making the book even more enjoyable to read. I am so excited to start 1.5 I. The series, The Hunter and the Crown which tells the story from the boys point of view.
I am amazed that this is Nicoline’s debut book. Her writing is impeccable and she is fantastic at telling the story, and I cannot wait to read the rest of the books that will be written in the series!

Forged in Flames and Chaos is the kind of book that grabs you by the throat from page one and refuses to let go. Nicoline Sommer builds a world where crowns lie, magic hums beneath every choice, and destiny demands blood — and Cass sits at the center of it all.
Cass is flawed, feared, desired and i dont think she knows how powerful she is yet. Her journey is wrapped in betrayal, horrendous men and truths that should never have seen the light. The ending? I did not see that coming. Just when I thought I understood where the story was headed, Sommer had me shocked. If you’re a fan of slow-burn, danger, and strong FMC, fae, witches and high-stakes magic, this novel delivers it all.

okay but WHY did this hit so hard 😭🔥
Forged in Flames and Chaos completely pulled me in. Cassandra’s whole “this isn’t really my life” feeling? yeah… painfully relatable. and then you throw in a mysterious magical necklace that basically flips her entire world upside down?? i was hooked.
i loved that this wasn’t just about powers or destiny, but about figuring out who you are when everything you thought was true starts falling apart. the emotional side of her journey really carried the story for me.
also: the vibes?? immaculate. there’s tension, there’s mystery, there’s that slow “something is very wrong (or right??)” feeling building the whole time.
100% recommend!!!!!!

Forged in Flames and Chaos (The Legacy of Destiny Series Book 1) by Nicoline Sommer is an exceptional start to what promises to be an unforgettable fantasy series. From the opening pages, I was completely immersed in a richly crafted world filled with danger, magic, and destiny. The story captured my attention immediately and never let go.
Nicoline Sommer has created a cast of compelling, well-developed characters whose struggles, strengths, and growth felt genuine and relatable. I found myself deeply invested in their journey, cheering for their victories and anxiously following them through every challenge and unexpected twist.
The world-building is phenomenal, with vivid descriptions that bring every setting to life without slowing the pace of the story. The balance of action, mystery, emotion, and adventure kept me turning the pages, always eager to discover what would happen next. Every chapter added another layer to the plot, making the story even more engaging.
What stood out most was the perfect blend of high-stakes conflict and heartfelt character moments. The themes of courage, sacrifice, loyalty, and destiny are woven seamlessly into the narrative, making this more than just a fantasy it’s an emotional and unforgettable adventure.
If you're a fan of epic fantasy with immersive world building, memorable characters, thrilling action, and a captivating storyline, Forged in Flames and Chaos is a must-read. I can't wait to continue the series and see where this incredible journey leads.

I did not expect to fall this hard for this book, but wow.
The worldbuilding in Forged in Flames and Chaos is seriously impressive. The academy, the magic system, and the rules of time all feel carefully crafted and easy to sink into, without ever feeling overwhelming. You slowly realize how expansive the world is, and before you know it, you are completely invested.
What truly made this book unforgettable for me, though, is the combination of strong characters and romance. Cassandra feels incredibly real, flawed, emotional, and resilient in a way that makes it impossible not to care about her. Her relationships are layered and meaningful, and the romantic tension is woven so naturally into the story. It is a slow burn filled with chemistry, restraint, and moments that linger, making every interaction feel charged and intentional.
The romance never feels rushed or superficial. It grows through shared experiences, conflict, and unspoken feelings, which makes it feel deeply satisfying and emotionally grounded. The side characters only add to this, creating dynamics and connections that enrich both the romantic arc and the story as a whole.
This is one of those books where you miss the characters when you are not reading, especially the relationships you have grown attached to. If you love fantasy with immersive worldbuilding and a romance that builds slowly but hits hard, this book is absolutely worth picking up.

Forged in Flames and Chaos delivers exactly what many romantasy readers are looking for: a compelling female lead, a hidden legacy, political tension, and a romance that carries real emotional weight throughout the story.
The book follows Cassandra as her life is turned upside down by the discovery of a mysterious necklace that ties her to something far greater than she ever imagined. From there, the story unfolds into a world of ancient magic, power struggles, and dangerous connections. One of the strongest aspects of the book is how character-driven it is. The focus on Cassandra’s internal conflict—balancing destiny, identity, and her growing emotional ties—keeps the story engaging and immersive.
The romance is also a central pillar, not just an add-on. It’s layered with tension and moral ambiguity, which adds depth to both the characters and the choices they make.
That said, the story does follow several well-known genre tropes. While they are executed competently, they don’t always bring a fresh or surprising angle. The pacing can also feel slow at times, particularly in the earlier sections, where the setup takes longer to fully pay off.
Overall, this is a strong and enjoyable entry into the romantasy genre. If you enjoy character-focused fantasy with emotional stakes, political undertones, and a slow-burn romance, this book is worth picking up.

🪽 Book Review 🪽
I’ve been lucky enough to receive “Forged in Flames and Chaos” along with the novella “The Hunter and the Crown” by Nicoline Sommer. These are her debut works, and the series will span a total of seven books ❤️
The story follows Cassandra, the FMC, who lives in Denmark. Her life is completely turned upside down after she discovers a mysterious necklace—an event that sets off a chain reaction that changes everything.. 🪽🌞🕯️🩸📝
My personal experience:
I was a bit skeptical at first. I could tell early on that the book had my interest, but something felt like it was missing. However, about a third of the way in, I was completely blown away! The story is filled with tension, intense inner conflict, and strong emotions—from empathy and desire to unpredictability—and not least a slow burn that truly works 🖤
The novella takes place in the same universe and offers an exciting perspective from another point of view. It provides a deeper understanding of the male characters—especially the MMC 🤭—and beautifully captures the “yearning” we all love, as well as the conflicts that come with being of noble blood.
I have to admit these books exceeded my expectations. I’m completely hooked and can’t wait to see where the story goes in the upcoming books! ❤️

I absolutely loved Forged in Flames and Chaos by Nicoline Sommer! I was completely hooked early on and constantly wanted to know what would happen next 🤩
⭐ 5/5
🌶️ 1/5
The pacing was excellent, with plenty of drama, tension, and emotional moments to keep me invested. One thing I particularly enjoyed was how the story surprised me. The modern setting in the opening chapters might make you think you're heading in a different direction, but make no mistake, this is very much a romantasy novel. The first part of the book revolves around time travel and gave me strong Outlander vibes ⌛, while the latter part shifts into a magical academy setting that reminded me of books like Zodiac Academy 🖤 The combination worked surprisingly well and kept the story feeling fresh throughout.
Cassandra: an incredibly relatable protagonist! Her reactions and struggles felt authentic, which made it easy to become emotionally invested in her journey.
Tropes:

🔥 Slow-burn romance

As someone who lived in Aarhus for many years, I had an extra layer of enjoyment while reading this book. It was fascinating to see familiar locations brought to life in the story, and I especially enjoyed the historical aspects and imagining how the city functioned in the 1600s. That made the setting feel particularly vivid and immersive.
Overall, this was a captivating romantasy with engaging characters, strong pacing, and a compelling blend of time travel, history, magic, and romance ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was such a solid read. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic felt fresh and authentic, with banter that actually made me laugh out loud. The characters have real depth, compelling, and impossible not to root for.
The world-building pulled me in immediately, and the plot kept me hooked with twists I didn't see coming. The romance develops naturally alongside the action, which I really appreciated.
It’s perfect for fans of Fourth Wing or Vampire Academy who want a fresh twist on the genre. Already looking forward to the next book in the series!

Congratulations on your debut novel!
Wow — I’ve truly loved every moment of watching this story come to life.
You can feel the thought, heart, and soul poured into every page. The universe is detailed and engaging, and the characters are so full of potential that I’m completely invested in where this story will take us next.
Debuting with such an ambitious universe takes courage, and it truly serves the story. And that ending… dramatic, powerful, and it leaves you desperate to dive straight into the next book — I loved it!

I didn’t know the author, but her TikTok account convinced me to read this book and let me just say! I was NOT disappointed! This story and character was just amazing. I never had a feeling of where the book was going and was constantly surprised when something new happened. The tension in the romance made me kick me feet. If you like books like Zodiac Academy and Vampire Academy, this book is definitely for you!!

This book completely pulled me in from the very first chapter. The writing is immersive and atmospheric, making it easy to feel connected to both the world and the characters. What stood out most to me was the emotional depth — the author doesn’t just tell a story, they make you experience it.
