Dare I say this is my new favorite Sloane St. James book?? Everything about Of Karma and Corridors was amazing. I love a good trauma recovery arc, so getting to unpack Anna Kucera a lot more after first meeting her in Strong and Wild (from the Lakes Hockey series) was incredibly satisfying. Witnessing the evolution of her character, as well as gaining more context about her past, was one of my favorite parts of this story.
Now let’s talk MMC, because Casper Carrows, THE MAN THAT YOU ARE. The way this character was written as such a delightfully unhinged golden retriever of a man was so well done. Sure, he made a lot of questionable choices (like, you know, stalking Anna from the walls of her apartment under the guise of “keeping her safe”), but my man had some strong arguments to support those choices. Plus he was an absolute consent king, which we love to see, and he fully supported Anna’s recovery and empowerment.
This book was definitely dark and had a lot of graphic violence, so be wary of that as needed, but wow the torture scenes were written super well! The fact that I went from cackling to covering my mouth and almost gagging while I read with one eye shut is honestly just evidence of impeccable writing.
And let’s not forget about the spice. This book was HOT and the romance between Anna and Casper was positively scorching. Ms. Sloane knows how to write a hell of a spicy scene, and we are gifted with some truly excellent ones in this book.
Highly recommend reading this next book in the Black Rabbit series! I can’t wait to see what happens next with our man Thor.

I always start my review process with a notepad... Im on chapter 17 and havent written down one single thing because I'm too wrapped up in enjoying myself!!
LET'S. GO.
Casper... OOOF. First of all... 6'7" Need I say more? I don't need to, but I will. Casper is a unicorn. Let's ignore the stalker thing... He's not creepy, hes dedicated. That's a great quality in a man. A man who is 6'7". And tattooed. And funny. And hot. I mean damn.... Just wanna pluck him right off the page. Please stuff me with your ladder and make me pancakes, sir.
Excuse my hormones, Casper is a solid MC. Total golden retriever without being a turn off. Let's face it, there is such thing as TOO attentive. Casper doesn't even come close to toeing the line because his personality could excuse anything. Hes THAT loveable. Quick with the comebacks, he clearly loves animals (shout out to Debra), he's talented. I mean the list goes on and on for reasons to love this MMC. I would happily create a home for this loveable sexpot and never abandon him.
Anna reminded me of Shrek. Not in the looks department, clearly--she's stunning, but she's like an onion with soooo many layers lol. We learn very early on that this woman has strength, and it has to come from somewhere... I, like Casper, was instantly intrigued by Anna and learning her story. As she opens up, I get it. I get it all!!! Anna has been through it, blamed herself, made excuses for others.. Not many people live through what she has gone through, let alone come out on the other side with a good head on her shoulders and a catch like Casper!!
To the nitty-gritty. The spice IS SPICING!!!! Much like Of Ink and Alchemy, the chemistry, the banter, and the back and forth; these MCs are perfect for each other. It's almost as if Anna was an idea before Casper was, because Casper is written so freaking perfectly FOR Anna. Anyone who has experienced any kind of D.V. would heal with a Casper by their side. Anna was already strong, having pulled herself together and really made something of her situation. Casper compliments her character and really gave her the push to grow beyond her well placed comfort zones. It's hard to read this and not feel secondhand emotions for both of these characters. Anna, you want to hold and be friends with and make sure no one Fs with her! And Casper you want to also hold, reassure, and hang out with. Theyre both fun, but Casper is hilarious!!!!
Have to mention these spoiler-free incidents:

I'll wrap this up by saying how beyond happy I am that book 2 matched book 1s energy. This was another EASY 5 star read. I knew from the beginning it would be... I have yet to read a Sloane St James that I didnt love. So bring on Thor!!!! After that epilogue, I am ready!!!

Thank you Sloane St James, Podium Publishing, and Net Galley for this ARC. Think Logan’s unhingedness can’t be topped? Then read this book, Of Karma and Corridors, the second book in the Black Rabbit series by Sloane St. James. I was absolutely here for it all and I mean, stalking by watching through someone’s bedroom wall is the sincerest form of flattery, right? This book has opossums, tattoos, pole dancing (even Casper gets on a pole), pure obsession, past traumas, stalking (but like the green flag way, right?), lots of spice, and pure love between two people who need healing.
We were introduced to both Casper and Anna in book one of the series, and a little snippet into them going out together. This book starts slightly before that day, but I loved that we were able to witness how they even got there, and of course what happens beyond this “platonic” date. Casper becomes obsessed with Anna and wants to know more about her, but when she comes home after he breaks into her apartment, he has to find a place to hide… and then he discovers a way to get into the corridor that is alongside her apartment to hide out in. He continues to come back to the spot and finds out so much more of Anna, as well as learning her regimented routine from a planted air tag on her car. He may also press his luck by going inside her apartment while she is showering, too. You can only imagine how this scene plays out.
Anna has no idea what is happening behind her walls, but she does know that weird things are happening because pillows are moved, she hears sounds, and drinks are missing from her fridge. Anna is three years sober and has a past that she has finally begun truly healing from, and making things right with her brother. All is well until her past turns back up and she needs to do what she has to do to make things go away and to also stay sober. Our hero Casper though is always a few steps ahead and will do anything for Anna, but can she really trust Casper like she wants to? AHH! You need to read to find out because I have already given WAYYYY too much.
This book was an eleven star read. That’s right, double that five stars and I raise you one star. I absolutely loved this book and completely devoured it in two days (I have kids, otherwise it would be one.) I could not put it down and I had many gasps. The love Anna and Casper had for each other was more than obsession. Two people who needed an incredible amount of healing in their own ways- Casper and Anna both had their trauma in life and had to heal themselves, but each needed the other to do that. I had all of the emotions in this book. I would also like to throw in a little warning for the gory descriptions in three scenes, but Casper is pretty humorous and I will never listen to Blues Traveler and not think of him again. Also, if that’s your only “trigger”, you’re absolutely fine. Bring me all of the red flags, because I am here for the Black Rabbit men!

If you like your MMCs morally grey, but also like your MMCs to be golden retrievers, then Casper is the man for you. I think he might be the most golden retriever man I have ever read.
I really enjoyed seeing Anna come into herself more, especially after first meeting her in Strong and Wild (her brothers book). After the Tellers, the Kucera's are definitely my favourite siblings from Sloane.

I genuinely refused to finish this book because I was NOT ready to let them go.
I loved Of Ink and Alchemy, but this one completely ruined me for anyone else.
Casper is a top-tier disaster and I am down HORRIBLY 😭 Yeah, the hidden wall spying situation is insane, but his dark, unhinged devotion ate and left no crumbs.
Anna is a pure cozy queen. I literally want to move in with her. She just casually accepts all of Casper’s weirdness while being a total resilient badass. They don't just complete each other, they hit different together.
The spice was utterly shameless, intense, and so fucking good.
The tattoo shop vibe was SO good. Actually, I need a tattoo appointment there ASAP. Zero boring moments, slightly heavier than book one but still funny as hell.
Seeing the gang back was elite, and the crumbs for Tor’s book officially broke my brain. I need it NOW.

I LOVED the first book in this series. I went into this feeling - it's gonna be hard to top that. How wrong I was! This book is a JOURNEY. Both with the plot and characters. I've laughed I've cried I've giggled. UGH.

I don't want to say any spoilers but he's FERAL. Don't let his flirty, great banter fool you. He's UNHINGED. We're getting the best combo with Casper. He's hilarious, his background is so moving and he's now the love of my life.
Our girl Anna is so strong the growth of her character is so inspiring to read. Caspers determination to break down her walls and help her LIVE is so special. Their chemistry is 🔥🔥🔥
The writing is just perfection. As with the first book, it's dark in such a subtle way you somewhat overlook it? Then you think back like, actually that's pretty messed up - but it's forgivable, commendable and also hilarious.
The inner dialog especially with Casper is just brilliant. He's not just dark he's a full well developed character with layers. While I loved Anna once again the MMC steals the show for me. Not just because he's HOT. His POVs are just perfect.
I can't wait to talk about this book. I'm practically screaming inside. NO DOUBT in my top spots of favourite books this year.

I must have felt every emotion while reading this one! This book blew me away with how hilarious, emotional, unhinged, and downright HOT it is. The banter was absolutely out of control, easily some of the best I’ve ever read. I also laughed out loud SEVERAL times while reading, I really had the best time ever. Casper and Anna’s story is so special and truly is unlike anything that I have ever read before! I fear that this series is absolutely a 6 star series for me because both books so far have lived rent free in my mind ever since finishing.
These two meet because he is her and her brother’s (Rhys Kucera helloooooo) tattoo artist! Casper quickly becomes obsessed with her and he may be unhinged and absolutely crazy but this man has the best heart and means well despite his stalker tendencies (he’s legit in her walls ok). I ADORE Anna so much. Anna is a recovering addict and is such a strong and complex character that felt so real to me. The way that her character evolves throughout the story and her relationship with Casper helps her blossom into her most confident care free self was written so beautifully and easily my favorite part.
I love it when a book makes me feel SO much. This one was so special. Thank you Sloane and team for the eARC! 🩷

The banter was absolutely out of control, easily some of the best I’ve ever read. I also laughed out loud SEVERAL times while reading, I really had the best time ever. Casper and Anna’s story is so special and truly is unlike anything that I have ever read before! I fear that this series is absolutely a 6 star series for me because both books so far have lived rent free in my mind ever since finishing.
These two meet because he is her and her brother’s (Rhys Kucera helloooooo) tattoo artist! Casper quickly becomes obsessed with her and he may be unhinged and absolutely crazy but this man has the best heart and means well despite his stalker tendencies (he’s legit in her walls ok). I ADORE Anna so much. Anna is a recovering addict and is such a strong and complex character that felt so real to me. The way that her character evolves throughout the story and her relationship with Casper helps her blossom into her most confident care free self was written so beautifully and easily my favorite part.

This book can be read as a standalone and is part of an interconnected series. You don’t need to read Of Ink and Alchemy to enjoy this, but while optional to read, I do think readers would benefit from reading Strong and Wild prior to reading this as not to get spoiled but also to more fully enjoy FMC Anna’s character arc starting with when she was first introduced as a character and get part of her backstory from a different POV. It also allows you to enjoy secondary characters Rhys and Micky more, who are the leads of Strong and Wild and are one of my favorite couples in romance.
I highly recommend this book to dark romance readers even if you don’t typically enjoy stalker romances, and I do think this book could possibly be a gateway book to dark romance for those who don’t normally read the subgenre if the CW (see below) aren’t triggers for them.
While I don’t normally enjoy stalker romances or golden retriever MMCs, I loved Sloane St. James’ Lakes Hockey books and am a dark romance reader so thought I’d take a chance with this book. The verdict is that this is my new favorite book from the author, knocking Strong and Wild out of my top spot.
Coincidentally FMC Anna, 24, was originally introduced in Strong and Wild as the antagonist, who I loathed, but this book starts 3 years after Strong and Wild when she’s in her soft girl era. I loved her character growth and started this book quickly taking a strong liking to her. Both Anna and MMC Casper, 28, feel lived in as characters: they are rendered with specificity, they’re complicated, humanly flawed, and feel like real people. Anna is a person in recovery from drug addiction who has been sober for 3 hard fought years and suffers from guilt over how her past actions impacted her brother. She created a very structured routine to establish stability to reduce the chances of relapsing: therapy, weekly NA meetings, food prep, dance class, etc, and every aspect of her life is orderly to not allow room for idle thoughts.
What sets apart tattoo artist Casper as a deranged golden retriever MMC is that it’s not his entire personality; he is a fully fleshed out, complex person with a distinct voice. He has ADHD, which I recognized immediately as someone who has ADHD. He spent his childhood moving between foster homes, so as a means of survival, he learned not to form attachments and conflated safety/protection with control. It’s refreshing that he is emotionally mature and ironically is a good direct communicator in stating his expectations while respecting her boundaries about touch and space while violating them through non-consensual surveillance. There were just two minor instances, where Casper acted really juvenile, which would have given me the ick so I just ignored it, since they were insignificant to the plot and was more just character texture.
This is not a pitch black book. Outside of the questionable, toxic, boundary-crossing albeit sort-of well intentioned behavior of the MMC, the dynamic between the FMC and MMC is supportive and sweet. Anna and Casper have great chemistry. Their romance feels fully earned, and they just make sense together. You can count on Sloane St James’ books to have really well written spice that isn’t vanilla; this story includes voyeurism and exhibitionism.
I really enjoyed the writing of this book. The writing is smart, the banter is cheeky, and even the torture scenes made me laugh although I did have to skim some parts of it due to its graphic nature. While I don’t seek out books with humor, I found it to be really well executed in this book— particularly the dramatic irony of juxtaposing a certain scene followed by a therapy call. IYKYK.
This is a dual POV story, where each lead has a very distinct interior voice: Casper’s voice is dry, deflective, and self aware as he rationalizes his toxic stalker behavior but then undercuts his justifications as BS and acknowledges that it’s rooted in learned behavior from his childhood need to feel control, while Anna’s voice feels sharp, controlled, intentional, and includes more sensory descriptions about how her emotional reactions show up via bodily sensations. At no point did I feel like any of the plot beats felt contrived for the sake of plot convenience; it came across as really organic and believable. When there was a lack of communication, it made complete sense rationally for those specific characters not to communicate rather than as a plot device. The backstory was well integrated into the current story rather than an exposition dump or withheld for plot reasons; it’s always triggered and anchored to actions the characters are doing.
While I loved and devoured this book, there were some minor inconsistencies that pulled me out of the story. This included the mechanics of spoofing numbers (if you spoof a number and then text someone, their response would go to the owner of the spoofed number not the person spoofing the number), a timeline hiccup (a week passes between two scenes, and it’s stated multiple times but then the characters momentarily speak as if it’s the day of the first event rather than a week later), Casper stating that he’s been sleep deprived ever since a certain event but then 11 days later (while the source of the sleep deprivation is still active), he says he lost sleep due to a text from said source, and also Anna stating that Casper’s only home decor is the welcome mat even though she recently just redecorated his home to include many framed prints. This didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story but just gave me pause while reading.
Overall, this ranks among one of my favorite reads of the year, and I would recommend it to dark romance readers and romance readers more broadly who don’t exclusively read cozy/sweet stories as long as there are no triggers for you within the content warnings. I’m also excited to read the third book when it comes out, which will be Thor’s story. I have some theories about what the romance might entail, and I cannot wait.

Ok...this book is such a fun and entertaining ride!

My Thoughts:
Casper was the greenest red flag MMC I've ever read. His personality was shining throughout the entire book. He was funny, thoughtful, absolutely unhinged, caring, and forthright. He was honest and wore his heart on his sleeve. That man was an absolute SIMP for Anna, and I enjoyed reading every minute of it.
Anna was a phenomenally complex FMC. She had so much darkness, and the way she chose to be strong and soft, caring, thoughtful but also rightfully selfish...as a reader, she was a breath of fresh air to read. Both her and Casper were imperfect, and though their lifestyles are vastly different from what a lot of readers may be living, they were both so relatable.
The relationship and character development was incredibly done. The falling in love, the being in love, the choosing each other. I found the complexity and simplicity of it beautifully written. The SPICE was spicy, and once it hit it did not stop.
The only thing stopping this from being a 5 star read for me was that I was hoping to see Anna settled back into a more balanced routine after all of the drama. I loved that she searched for that balance and was beginning to find it, and I would have liked that to be part of the conclusion. I can understand why, for legal reasons, Casper couldn't unpack a lot of his issues in therapy...but since it was such a big part of the book (both therapy and Casper's issues), I would have also liked to see him put his money where his mouth was and solve some of his problems.

I absolutely loved this book. I feel like there should be a better way to say it, but I truly LOVED this book. The completely unhinged MMC, Casper Carrows made me laugh probably more than what was appropriate. His inner monologue was hilarious, and his stony exterior was far from how he treated the people he cared for. I thought that Logan from book 1 was unhinged but Casper took that behavior to a whole new level. But at the same time, he is incredibly thoughtful and protective and if you are lucky enough to be in Casper’s circle, then you can be sure you are loved.
And Anna, sweet sweet girl. Has been through so much in her life and yet she keeps going. I don’t know how one person can have so much strength after being broken like she was, but her story is heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time.
Sloane’s writing is amazing and every single part of this book was such a joy to read! She really captures growth and strength and facing your demons in a realistic but emotional way! Definitely check trigger warnings before reading this one though, it’s got plenty 😆
The relationship between Casper and Anna made me giggle, kick my feet, drop my mouth open in pure shock, the list continues…

Is there a 6 star option because I would 100% give this book 6 stars with my whole heart!!!! 😭❤️ If you can imagine yourself on the wildest rollercoaster ride that has you laughing, then crying, then a little scared all before you are flipped upside down….that is this book! I have never been on a ride with a book like this before and I truly never wanted to get off.
FIRST, the topics covered in this book were HARD but so freakin real and had me emotional multiple times. The things that both Anna and Casper have been through in their past are absolutely heart wrenching but it’s because of their respective pasts that they develop the relationship that they do, and damn…it is good!
SECOND, Casper may be the funniest MMC I have ever encountered and I truly adore this man with my whole heart!!! Talk about someone that turns past trauma into dark humor, he has that down to an art. I was cackling in public at this man!!! And in contrast, seeing him with Anna and how he treats her…my heart was in a melted puddle.
THIRD, seeing everything that these characters overcome throughout the book made it one of my favorite reads of the year and my new favorite Sloane St. James book! This book is funny, and hard and absolutely beautiful…I am incredibly grateful to have rode this ride that was Casper and Anna finding each other! 10/10 recommend!!! 👏👏👏

As a big fan of the first book in the series, I was willing to do anything to get my hands on this ARC. After meeting Casper and being that Anna was such an important side character in Strong and Wild, I had to know about both their back stories. This book went beyond my expectations. I ate it up and had such a fun time reading it. Even with such serious subject matter, Sloane St James did a wonderful job representing the healing process that people like Casper and Anna go through on a daily basis. I also loved some of the morbid, dark humor that we got from these two. The playful banter between them really brought these two characters to life. They were perfect for each other. Bringing the missing piece to each other’s lives.
This book had to all. I was laughing, cringing, gasping, fanning myself with how delicious the spice was. It had shock factor that’s for sure. But I couldn’t help but eat it up. I also may have a crush on both MCs.

I walked into this expecting a slow burn tattoo shop romance and left with a man who built himself a secret corridor to WATCH his girl through her own walls, and I have never forgiven Sloane St. James faster.
Anna Kucera runs her life on three rules, sobriety, routine, control, because the alternative is remembering why she needed the rules in the first place. She walks into Casper Carrows' shop for a tattoo cover-up and walks out with a man who finds the scars on her back and decides, quietly, permanently, that he is never leaving her alone again. Emphasis on the never. Emphasis on the alone. Casper doesn't just fall for Anna, he installs himself into the architecture of her house and her life, and Anna has to decide whether the man watching from the walls is the safest place she's ever stood or the most dangerous.
What worked: the BANTER. These two are so funny together that I forgot for whole chapters I was reading a dark romance and not a rom-com with a body count energy. And then Anna finally tells Casper the truth about what happened to her, and I had to put the book down and stare at a wall, because St. James does not do trauma reveals halfway, she goes for the throat and then hands you the tissues after. Casper spends the entire book waving red flags like he's directing air traffic and somehow makes it charming, which should be illegal. And his mouth. I'm not going to elaborate. I don't need to. You'll know.

Anna Kucera runs her life on three rules, sobriety, routine, control, because the alternative is remembering why she needed the rules in the first place. She walks into Casper Carrows' shop for a tattoo cover-up and walks out with a man who finds the scars on her back and decides, quietly, permanently, that he is never leaving her alone again. Emphasis on the never. Emphasis on the alone. Casper doesn't just fall for Anna, he installs himself into the architecture of her house and her life, and Anna has to decide whether the man watching from the walls is the safest place she's ever stood or the most dangerous.
What worked: the BANTER. These two are so funny together that I forgot for whole chapters I was reading a dark romance and not a rom-com with a body count energy. And then Anna finally tells Casper the truth about what happened to her, and I had to put the book down and stare at a wall, because St. James does not do trauma reveals halfway, she goes for the throat and then hands you the tissues after. Casper spends the entire book waving red flags like he's directing air traffic and somehow makes it charming, which should be illegal. And his mouth. I'm not going to elaborate. I don't need to. You'll know.

I have to say, after reading the epilogue in book 1 I was incredibly intrigued about Casper and Anna. They felt so different and like they had nothing in common, but I believed Sloan had a plan…and what a wonderful plan.
This story was exponentially darker than book 1 but it was fitting. The topics were handled with care and attention, truly felt raw and close to the heart. Anna was so strong, she fought for herself but in that fight, trapped herself in a routine. Her fears were keeping her from truly living and meeting Casper pushed her out of that bubble. Well, should I say Casper himself shoved her out of that bubble, but like, with care and all.
Casper was truly the man of dreams. His relationship with Anna evolved and changed, but he never treated her differently, no matter what he learned or what she showed him. His respect and love for her were deep and genuine, loyalty so strong in his personality he would have done anything for her.
I have to say, I laughed plenty with their antics. Their banter was playful and funny, the group moments were also hilarious and even the “dark” moments were blanketed with humor and jokes.
Sloane, you’ve brought to life a craving for a tattoo from people who don’t exist. But at least you are letting us read about them falling head over heels in love. Thank you for the Black Rabbit crew.

Sloane does not miss. I absolutely loved Anna, her resilience, and watching her grow into herself. I don’t know what this says about me, but I loved Casper. He was unhinged but for all the right reasons 🤷🏽♀️ I was hooked from page one. Beautiful story. I laughed, cried, cringed (at the gory parts), and smiled like an idiot while reading. Highly recommend.

Sloane St. James has done it again! Book 2 in the Black Rabbit series, Of Karma and Corridors, was another brilliant read. I absolutely love the characters she creates, and Anna and Casper are no exception. Put them together and the chemistry is off the charts. 🔥
Casper certainly has his own unhinged ways of finding out more about Anna, who he meets when she becomes one of his tattoo clients. But that’s one of the things I love most about this series — you’re guaranteed a morally grey hottie! He definitely has his methods, but underneath it all, he just wants to keep Anna safe and protected.
Anna has been through a lot and suffered trauma, but she’s now sober and has built a very regimented lifestyle to help her maintain it. I loved seeing Casper encourage her to step outside of her comfort zone, try new things and actually experience life.
And the spice and chemistry between these two? Sublime. 👌🏼 I loved the way Casper makes Anna feel safe, alive and truly seen — while, ultimately, she learns to see and understand every part of him too.

This is 100% going to be my favorite book of the year. I AM UNWELL, this was so freaking good!!!
Casper is Anna’s tattoo artist and our boy develops a little obsession with her, which ultimately results in him sitting in a hidden corridor behind her apartment walls, stalking her. I know how this sounds… amazing right?! 😂 This is the kind of book where your rational brain waves all the red flags while the delulu part screams “OMG HOW CUTE, I LOVE HIM”.
Anna went through some really really bad stuff and had a hard time fighting her way back but in the end she did not let it bring her down. She’s a true fighter and an inspiration, I loved her so so much.
And Casper, oh my god this man. There is nothing, NOTHING, he wouldn’t do for Anna. Yes he’s totally nuts, but he knows he’s nuts and embraces it. 😂 I can’t remember the last time I had that many laugh out loud moments while reading. And the connection between the two was sooo palpable, it gave me goosebumps! I’m having a hard time accepting that they are fictional characters because I want to hug them so bad. 😅
And don’t even get me started on the spice, omg THE SPICE!! Ugh, so freaking good. I love it when the spice feels like something I haven’t read before, because let’s be honest, when you read as much spicy books as I do the intimate scenes can sometimes feel repetitive and boring. Not in this one though, I definitely advise against reading those scenes in public.
Anyways 😅 I’m in awe of Sloane’s talent. The fact that she wrote such an incredible book in such a difficult time in her personal life is just astounding. This woman has to be protected at all costs and I desperately want to live in her head. Can’t wait for what’s to come!!!

First of all, this had me CACKLING throughout. Like seriously, this is one of the funniest romance books I’ve ever read.
I absolutely loved Anna and Casper and how believable they were as characters. Even within the first couple of chapters, I felt like I already understood them as individuals. Their backstories were well thought out, and the sensitive topics were covered in a way that didn't detract from the overall story. The plot was exciting. I felt it was well written and I mean, who doesn’t love a man who’ll torture those who’ve wronged you?
The spice? 10/10, chef's kiss, no notes. Sloane St. James has not and will never write a bad sex scene; I’m sure of it. This rivals her incredible work in Stand and Defend (iykyk)...
Overall, I loved this. Cannot wait for Thor’s book next!! Thanks to the publishers for the eBook!!

This was such a good book! I loved it. Anna Kucera is a client of Casper’s at his tattoo studio. She asks him to help cover up some scaring she has on her back, and when Casper realizes someone injured Anna to cause a scar there he grows concerned. Casper’s concern manifests in some stalking, and other extreme measures. Along the way he and Anna start to connect on a personal level.
I really loved Casper, and he experienced a lot of growth in the book. His devotion to Anna and how much he paid attention to her was so sweet. He recognized what Anna needed, and helped her start living again. Anna has gone through some really tragic and dark stuff, and Casper not judging her, or even pitying her was just what she needed. The relationship wasn’t one sided though, as Anna gave Casper a sense of home, which was something he’s never had.
I really loved Anna and Casper together, and thought they were perfect for each other. Casper’s golden retriever energy was too funny at times, and just what Anna needed. There is a lot of depth to this book, and it covers some very heavy themes, so make sure to check the trigger warnings at the beginning. I can’t wait to read Thor’s story! I swear, Sloane St. James's books keep getting better and better!! I have yet to read anything from her that I don't just outright ADORE!! And this one was no different! This one was an absolute masterpiece and I couldn't have loved it any more! Getting to see more of Anna and getting to see her viewpoint in her healing process was so wonderful, and I just so loved getting to see her drive and her strength in everything she had been through! Her fight and her determination to take control for her life was incredible to watch! And Casper was just the absolutely greatest, and seeing his special blend of protective and obsessed was absolute perfection! His absolute devotion to Anna and her safety and comfort was so beautiful to see! I couldn't get enough of these two, and they are, arguably, my favorite couple from Sloane St. James world! Plus we got to see some of the Lakes Hockey characters AND the Black Rabbit knuckleheads!! I can't wait for Thor's book!! Overall this book was a damn masterpiece, and I absolutely could not love it any more!! 5 stars; 4 chili peppers

The past of Anna is truly heartbreaking. We first got a look into Anna’s troubled life in Sloane’s previous book Strong & Wild (Rhys & Mickeys book) so I knew this was going to be a tough story to tell. But it was written so so well.
Casper is honestly the best. The way he treats Anna is just beautiful. It was just such a lovely story.
