Seventeen-year-old Lillim Callina does not like living with her mother, which is why she hired fairy contractors to rebuild her apartment. But when the fairies vanish overnight, a routine task becomes an all-out battle for the future of Fairy.
When New York Times Bestselling author, J. A. Cipriano was in second grade, his teacher gave everyone in class a journal to write down whatever they wanted. Their first subject was to write about something they didn’t like. J. A. chose to write about why he didn’t like writing. His reasoning was simple. He had bad handwriting. Even then, he was destined to be an engineer due to his messy scrawl.
Unfortunately, he found through the course of this little adventure that he actually liked writing. That year was sort of the high point for his writing career because he won a writing contest for the state. He got to go to a big dinner and his teacher was all dressed up.
He kept writing little stories, year after year, and in sixth grade, won another contest. In seventh grade, he broke his arm and got the cast signed by both Dean Koontz and Stan Lee. It is, by far, the coolest cast he’s owned. That was about the time he found video games and anime. His writing turned mostly toward fanfiction until about ninth grade when he wrote his first novel, a small book about twenty thousand words called Revelations. In sophomore year, he wrote two more books to complete the trilogy because he saw Star Wars that year and learned trilogies were the cool thing to do.
He rewrote Revelations during his senior year, and his wife swears it is the best thing he’s written. J.A. is not so sure. Every time he reads it, he cringes, but then again, he hates everything he writes, so there is that.
It was about that time, he got heavily involved in a fanfiction writing group, but that isn’t one hundred percent accurate. It was a world based on a popular anime but everything was created especially for this world. It made it so that every story someone wrote was unique.
Imagine writing a Star Wars novel set 1,000 years after A New Hope, where everything that happened was a distant memory and you get the idea. You have the force, some distant memories of the past, and that’s pretty much it.
He wrote about a million words (863K to be exact) for them before he decided to do his own thing. He wrote another novel. He put it in a drawer. He wrote another one that eventually became the basis for The Hatter is Mad. His next novel was Kill It With Magic, his first real novel. It’s not bad, but it’s bumpy. This is unfortunate because the books get loads better as the series progresses.
Since then, he’s written six more novels, four of which are in the Lillim Callina Series, and one in the Abby Banks series. The other is stuck in a drawer for time undetermined. He’s writing his next book now which is about werewolves fighting mummies in Ancient Egypt. After that, he will move onto Abby Banks 2. The Spy Within will come out in June or July.
J.A. also has three chinchillas. Two of them are grey, and because of this, they are named Slate and Cadmium. The third is named Jet because he’s black, and Jet is old English for black. See, creative. He also has a cat named Turtle. This does pose problems for his two-year-old from time to time.
Fairy Tale (The Lillim Callina Chronicles #3) by J.A. Cipriano is my favorite Lillim book so far. She has a couple of prequels and this is the third book and I loooovvvee this one. Filled with humor, action, all kinds of creatures, adventure, and so much excitement! I love this series anyway but this one is the best. It all starts when she is confused why the pixies are not cleaning and reconstructing her house the orc had destroyed. She goes to Fairy to find out, her friend, and her ghost friend come to. From there, the fun begins!
I can't believe how much I love Lillim attitude. So in this 3rd book on the series she gains a friend and we get a new character. The way the author introduces us to the land of fairy is really different from other books in the genre. There's some sadness and plenty of action and we learn more of the back story about Dirge
I don't know how I know this, but something is off in this story.. there were things unsaid. Missing pieces and things that were not told. I could feel this as the story unfolded.
So I'm a fan of JA Cipriano's other works - so I had high expectations for this series. It's fine... but it feels like there's more to be told here. I felt like I missed a book in the middle. I'm going to stay with it and see where it takes me.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It’s true that this series gets better as it progresses but in such tiny increments. While I found Lillim to grow as a character in the second book, here she seems to have regressed to her 16 year old self.
Apart from that, and this might just be me, but I found that the beginning with Kishi seemed to have strong sexual undertones. I also think that Lillim has a total girl crush on her. So I did find that a bit weird just because with all the repeating of how naked they were was in my face constantly. This time Lillim still manages to get her ass handed to her and Warthor Ein and Kishi have tto come to her rescue repeatedly. Though I will give her props for finally managing to defeat at least one baddie mostly all on her own.
There are still crazy action scenes for all you over the top animae lovers out there and honestly apart from a few scenes here and there I mostly understood what was going on. I do think character development needs to be stepped up which kept this from being a good read.
This book had quite a bit of action in it, which I'm fine with. I particularly liked the way that Kishi was able to pull her weapons from tattoo's on her body, was a nice new way to present a magic and or magical weaponry. The magic continues to be pretty interesting. Lillim is a pretty fun character, the whole story thus far has taken place in less than a years time, she doesn't tend to grow as a person too much, though you can see it forming, especially in how she's coming to appreciate her mother more and to feel better about being the reincarnation of a heroic person. I went on to buy each of the other books in this series as I finished the one previous and have enjoyed them so far.
Fast paced and flipping mad. Lillian battles continue causing more chaos with every breath. It's not her fault. Great Read and characters. Some you want to slap and others just make you want to hide. Trouble follows Lillim from all angles leaving readers spinning trying to keep up and loving every minute of it.
I'm disappointed with this one. It's a little too disconnected for even me. The lines are funny, the characters as crazy as ever, but the book lacks the flow which I enjoyed in the other ones. I'm going to give the next book a chance because I want to figure out why Warthor brought Dirge back.
