This is a New Weird/Cozy Cosmic Horror anthology from a new indie publisher with four novellas by different authors (full disclosure: I wrote the one that I won't review here). Herbivore by Anthon Draw is a study of lives in collision at a tropical resort destroyed by a giant sea turtle, sort of a Kaiju White Lotus... Nature Is Tired Of Our Shit and This Is Why, of a sort. Shadow of the Mountain by Jeff Oberg is an Appalachian ghost story, a tale of redemption and an exorcism of the legacy of the past. Except the exorcist is a Miami chef passing through on the way to good barbeque. A Scandal in Hollywood is a 1950s pulp adventure in, well, Hollywood, with Basil Rathbone forced back into the Sherlock Holmes-saddle despite his best efforts.
All of these are fun & new, new voices for the genre-bending horror of the future. I mean, mine is good, too, but I might not be objective there. The other stories, though... I am proud to be among them.
