Months have passed since Meredith’s arrival to Alder. No longer the girl she once was, she lives at the mercy of her hate, waiting for the day she can exact revenge. With the help of her betrothed, Meredith will bring herself closer to the retribution she covets, and she will have to decide just how far she is willing to go to get what she wants, even if it means losing herself completely and becoming the kind of monster she vies to destroy.
Lost in a kingdom oppressed by Theros’s rule, Connor is determined to recover his memories. But Sunder is a treacherous place, where the line between ally and foe becomes blurred, and Connor will be thrust into its web, setting him on a deadly path where he’ll be forced to take a stand for those who saved his life. Will he remember himself before it’s too late?
Samantha Gillespie writes clean romantic fantasy. All the angst with none of the smut.
She lives in Houston with her husband and their ever-expanding menagerie: cats who've crowned themselves royalty, a dog with strong opinions about the weather, and chickens whose sole mission is acquiring treats and destroying the yard. When she's not breaking hearts through fiction, she thrives on copious amounts of coffee, sharp wit, and the delicious tears of her devoted readers.
I have enjoyed Samantha Gillespie’s sequel even more the first part of the series.
While ‘The Kingdom Within’ is almost wholly shown from Meredith’s perspective, with Connor introduced to the readers only through her eyes, ‘The Lost Throne’ offers more point of views on the events unfolding in the story. The alternating narration of Meredith and Connor has given a new spin on the events and insights from both characters. Both characters are going through some hard times in this book, and it was interesting to see how they grow and develop apart each other, especially with Connor not remembering who he really is for most of the book.
I have particularly enjoyed Meredith’s part of the story. I always love seeing the growth in character, and that was visible in ‘The Lost Throne’. At the beginning of the book, Meredith and Ethan are angry and hurt and motivated by the revenge for the assumed death of Connor, important to them both – as a love interest and a brother respectively. In parts, that’s probably the first connection between both characters, who though were destined to each other by the treaty, haven’t met before. Ethan, instead of being portrayed as an antagonist or a threat to Meredith’s heart, definitely became one of my favourite characters, with his kindness and putting his Kingdom and family first as his greatest qualities. It is not surprising that Meredith’s came to care about him at some level as the story developed.
Where the love story between Meredith and Connor in the first book could be seen as sort of naïve one, the sort of one you have when you are young and you think you fall in love almost immediately (and that who Meredith was at the beginning of the series, despite being a Princess, she still was a young girl), the friendship and later marriage between Meredith and Ethan seems to come as Meredith, due to all the recent events, matures. And I really enjoyed seeing those characters’ interactions in ‘The Lost Throne’ interchanged with Connor’s (re)discovery who he really is and remembering his love for Meredith. The ‘love-triangle’ trope is often overused, but I have liked what ‘The Lost Throne’ set up to do, with the reader (at least in my case) end up carrying for all three characters and not wanting any of them to lose.
I am happy to see more and more books these days, having strong female leads, even when the main character is a Princess. Not to mention that Meredith is not the most female Princess ever, not being great at dancing and trying to learn how to fight. I wish there were more stories like that when I was younger as it gives a better example for the young girls than classic stories of ‘a damsel in distress’ kind.
All in all, I am definitely looking forward to reading the future instalments of the series. Big thanks to Samantha Gillespie for kindly gifting me a copy of this ebook to review – it has been a great read!
The Lost Throne is a nice fantasy story. Cover of this book looks so intriguing that I immediately got excited to read this book. The first part "The Kingdom Within" builds a great world where Connor's dashing looks impressed Meredith. The story continues in the part 2. In this, Ethan and Meredith are looking for the revenge of Connor's death. Meredith is in the kingdom of Alder from months. Meredith has no desire to marry Ethan since beginning. Will they come together? In this book, we get to meet so many characters.
Everyone is thinking that Connor gave his life honorably to ensure the safe arrival of Princess Meredith. But Connor is living in another world with lost memories. He is so determined to get his memories back. Connor, Meredith and Ethan these characters are penned in detail by the author. Language is lucid and I was able to easily follow it. Plot of the story is much impressive. I enjoyed this novel from the first page till last full stop and there is nothing that disappointed me. Author has done better work in part 2. Read this novel on my recommendation. You will not regret for sure.
The Lost Throne is the second book in "The Kingdom Within" series. Meredith and Connor, the characters that we met in the book 1 are the same one that continues in Book 2 but with much growth in characters. Meredith and Ethan both are sad and they are mourning over Connor's death. They want revenge now. On the other hand, Connor is living apart and he doesn't remember much about him.
Ethan is a very kind character who is driven by his duty to his people and his kingdom. Ethan is angry that they don't have remains of Connor's body to identify him. Connor is such a beloved member of Alder that people are mourning his death whereas Connor is desperate to get his memories back. Meredith who is a strong female protagonist has surely won my heart.
Author has done great work in this novel. World building is amazing and the story is captivating. I like to recommend it to YA fantasy readers. Length of part 2 in the series is longer as compared to part 1 and this one has much in store for the readers.
I'm so thankful to the Author Samantha Gillespie for reaching out to me personally, to read and review this book. This book was definitely a step up the from the first book in the series. Both main Characters Meredith and Conner were much more developed as was the world in which they live. Along with some of the other characters we had met before and new ones we were getting to know. Some of the details were so on pint I either felt like I was their myself or were making me sick to think of someone going through what they had to go through. If I'm being totally honest, there were parts in this book that were a bit slow and languish to get through, and then I found the end too quick. However the very end makes you wish the next book in the series was available to see how this love triangle and the battle for the kingdoms will turn out.
This is the second book in the series, and as much as I enjoyed the first one, I liked this one even better. In the first book, Meredith is a young princess with little control over her own life. In this one, even though she still has little control over many aspects of her life, she has grown up a great deal in a short amount of time, and is becoming the strong woman she will need to be in order to take her rightful place in the kingdom. At the end of the first book, I was hoping she'd be able to find a way to be with Connor; now I'm torn about who I want to see her with in the end. The next book should be interesting in how it deals with this triangle.
Highly recommend this sequel in the series following the star crossed lovers, Meredith and Connor. I couldn’t read fast enough to find out when and where they reunite and discovering how other characters storyline’s weaves in and out of the main characters past and present. I am definitely on the lookout for book 3 - here’s to speedy typing!
I really, really want to know what happens next! A perfect Book 2 of a series, with a great storyline, that develops both the plot and the characters. Again a lovely, easy and quick read. I can’t wait for the ending in book 3. I definitely recommend this book and author to those who like historical romance.
Loved this! The first book was good but this was even better. Getting to see more of the story from Connor’s point of view was great and the suspense through the whole book kept me enthralled. Can not wait for the third instalment to be released!
Intense. Loved being a part of both main characters' journey, it gave me different and fresh perspectives as the story unfolded. I also loved the new characters, and I admit... Ethan... you stole my heart--didn't see that one coming.
