While I do enjoy a HEA, it’s the emotional journey and tension in between that truly make a story memorable. Unfortunately, this duet never fully captured the same dark intensity, obsession, or emotional pull that made Set’s storyline so addictive for me.
From the very beginning, Ares and Brynn’s relationship leaned heavily into the physical connection, but the emotional dynamic itself felt underdeveloped. For a character introduced as the God of War — powerful, feared, and possessing a massive ego — Ares often came across much softer than expected. Instead of embodying that dominant, dangerous presence, much of the relationship felt centered around Brynn directing the emotional pace while Ares reacted around her.
The overall storyline also felt weaker compared to the first Dark Gods books. Some plot elements and themes seemed repetitive rather than fresh, and even the artwork gave the impression of reusing the same visual style from Set’s books with only minor changes.
There were still moments I enjoyed, particularly the mythology elements and the underlying theme of avenging the woman he loves, but overall this story lacked the originality, tension, and commanding character presence I had hoped for after reading Set’s duet.

I didn’t enjoy this duet as much as the first one, but it still was interesting enough to keep me engaged all the way through! I would love to see a follow up of their times once they become immortal!

Make Me a Hunter by M. O. Absinthe was an exciting ride from beginning to end. Once again, M. O. Absinthe picked up the story exactly where Make Me Hunt left us hanging, making it easy to dive right back into Brynne and Ares's world.
The action in this book was riveting. There was never a dull moment, and the stakes felt high throughout the entire story. I found myself completely invested in seeing how everything would unfold.
The chemistry between Ares, the God of War, and Brynne was captivating. What I loved most was how Ares didn't diminish Brynne's strength—he amplified it. The fierce determination and thirst for justice she already carried within her were enhanced by his unwavering support, devotion, and belief in her. Together, they were a force to be reckoned with.
And let's talk about the romance. The tension, passion, and connection between these two were off the charts. I absolutely loved the intensity of their relationship and how deeply they were devoted to one another.
The only reason this book received 4 stars instead of 5 is because I couldn't quite get past some of the romantic scenes while Brynne was dealing with such a serious leg injury. It pulled me out of the story a bit because it just wasn't working for me personally.
Even with that small issue, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Between the nonstop action, the captivating romance, and the powerful dynamic between Ares and Brynne, Make Me a Hunter delivered an unforgettable conclusion that kept me hooked until the very last page.

Intense and addictive read
The chemistry between the characters was undeniable and the story kept me hooked from start to finish. M. O. Absinthe delivers plenty of emotion, tension and twists that had me turning pages late into the night. I can’t wait for the next book. Who is the next God ?
