Noble Ascent 1: A Progression Fantasy Adventure

Rate this book
House Valentine was a shadow of its former self. Once a powerful noble house of the kingdom of Valmere — now ruined by generations of bad decisions, worse lords and far too much gambling. A crumbling manor, a tainted title, and a mountain of debt was what Lucius Valentine was set to inherit.

His ambitions reached further than his family’s tarnished legacy — to the Noble Ascent. Five dungeons, five challenges. A competition among nobles, with only one winner to claim the land and title waiting for the victor; and enough gold and glory to exploit it.

Blessed with his family’s unique gift — Cupid’s Bonding — Lucius will unlock rare abilities as he bonds with the women who will deliver him the redemption he desperately desires. But he isn’t the only one seeking to exploit the Noble Ascent.

Nobles have their own ambitions and will do anything to achieve them. From rulers extending their reach, to the wealthy exploiting the dungeons, and a rigged system set to steal what he desires – Lucius will contend with deceit, betrayal, and politics as he tackles his Noble Ascent.

I DNF this book after 66 pages, after it became beyond clear that the MC would put zero effort into getting a harem.

The MC is a noble from a destitute noble line. They have a heredity that often shows up that allows for the leader of a dungeon diving group to form bonds with their members. The bonds have two levels; one that is lesser for joining the party, and a second that is insanely powerful if they become intimate with the party leader. So he wins his fight to become a party leader, and immediately identifies several beautiful women that could get amazing powers if they join him. And they are dying to become his party members.

I find haremlit stories where the MC puts no effort into getting their harem to be very boring. Especially because if you put no effort into winning a woman's affections, you won't put in the effort to maintain a relationship.

Loved it

The world building, the characters, the story, the love and connection between Lucien and his party is well written.
The dungeon delving is well thought out with decent challenges and enemies, with unique boss fights and mechanics.

And the plotting, planning, twists and turns behind the scenes by the villains are expertly interlaced with perspective changes in the chapters.

Looking forward to seeing more of the Nobles Ascent, Lucien and his party's challenges... And the Magistrate of Odds true schemes...

Simple and elegant

This is another fantastic case of a great not overly complicated story that shines brightly because it was written with passion and to make reading it a easy and engaging as possible. We have very well written characters, of them and utterly fantastic MC with great goals and a well balanced personality. The spice works great. The relationships developed very quickly but in the context of our setting it does make sense. I'm glad the sequel will be out soon because I can't wait to read it.
