His strategy was perfect. Then the one thing he couldn’t outrun showed up.
Miles Larson built his life on distance — from people, from need, from anything that could hurt. Feelings cost too much, and caring always comes with strings.
Three months into his year-long obligation at the Stillwater Inn and he’s counting the days until he can cash out and leave the crumbling legacy, and the people in it, behind.
But spring brings complications he can’t spreadsheet away.
A stranger arrives looking for answers Miles has buried. His daughter shows up desperate and afraid. Secret phone calls promising a fortune start sounding more like leverage than luck.
As past and present tangle, Miles is pulled toward the very things he’s avoided most—connection, loyalty, and the terrifying risk of being needed. When he uncovers what the developers truly want with the inn and why, he faces the choice he’s dodged his entire life—take the payout and stay detached, or stay and fight for the place and the people he never meant to love
Return to the world of Hometown Harbor with Harbor Winds, the third book in the Stillwater Inn series—a poignant story of forgiveness, found family, and one man discovering that sometimes love doesn’t arrive gently — it breaks in and rearranges everything.

Tammy Grace takes us back once again to Hometown Harbor in the San Juan Islands in her newest book Harbor Winds, the third book in her new Stillwater Inn Series. If you have read her Hometown Harbor series and already fallen in love with the wonderful characters you are in for a treat as they make their way into the lives and hearts of Ida Grayson’s heirs.
Each book in the Stillwater Inn series will follow each of the heirs individually and is told from their point of view. This will give the reader a chance to get to know each character and their background, and what drives them to follow Ida’s wishes for her once beautiful Stillwater Inn. Harbor Winds is told from the perspective of Miles Larson, Ida’s stepson.
Miles has spent his life running from anything that might tie him down, or cause heartache if lost. He only shows up to listen to the reading of Ida’s will out of obligation. Once he learns the terms of the will, he is outraged to find out to inherit anything he will have to spend an entire year restoring the Stillwater Inn with people he has either tried to forget or are complete strangers to him. If it was up to him, he would sell out to the developers that have hounded his stepmother for decades and sell Stillwater Inn to them. All he wants to do is finish the refurbishment, sell out and get back to his own quiet life.
Like most plans things change. Miles had a very rocky relationship with his children due to his absence in their lives when they were young, during which time he felt work obligations and “providing” for his family was a better option than spending time together as a family. But much to his surprise, Miles reconnects with his adult son and daughter while working on the Inn. Another surprise from the past also catches up to him and with this new development, and reconnecting with his children, he starts to understand the value of family, friends, and working together for something good.
Since I’m not one to give away the story, I will leave it there. I love Tammy Grace’s style of writing, and you can be sure her stories will be heartwarming with lots of furry friends to warm your heart.
Harbor Winds, book three in the Stillwater Inn series by Tammy L. Grace. This book has truly moved me, it is one of the best books I have ever read. Both heartbreaking and heartwarming, it is the story of Miles, Ida’s stepson and one of six heirs to Ida‘s beloved Stillwater Inn. Miles is a man who has run his whole life from connection, from Ida, his stepmother, his sister Dawn, his children Selene, Asher, and the son he never knew he had Brandon. He found a false strength in running to the Navy as a new high school graduate, to a divorce and children he never connected to and always disappointed. He always thought as long as he provided financially he had done his job. He came to Stillwater Inn wanting a cash payout and another reason to run away. But Ida was smart and her will would not allow that, he was forced to stay. During his first six months at the Inn things began to change due to his daughter’s unexpected visit, the son he never knew showing up, and Asher coming to check up on his sister. He worked on a decades old murder case that had tore at his soul. Begrudgingly he started to see things in a new light and realized how many things he had handled badly, and how much harm he had done to people he should’ve only shown love, and how much harm it had done to him. This book had me crying at times and smiling by the end, Miles had finally found his true North.
Great addition to the series. This book is Miles story. He has been resistant to the renovation efforts. It is revealed he has been getting pressure from Harris and developers to make sure the renovations fail.
Family support runs through the book especially when Miles’ daughter Selena show up unwed and pregnant. More surprises are in store when Brandon shows up. He owns his own electrical company and comes with the surprising news Miles is his father.
Miles does a lot of soul searching to realize the meaning of family and fatherhood. He comes to realize how wrong he was in his opinions and thoughts of Ida. Working with the police, Miles helps to right a wrong from 20 years ago and end the threats from big business developers.
Thanks to the author for this ARC. This review is my honest opinion.
I just can’t get enough! I’ve been reading one book after another when I first discovered this author. This book was no different. I was hooked from the beginning. I just finished reading this book, now I’m ready to start reading the next book. One of these days I’m going to have to stop for a bit so I can get some sleep. This book definitely requires tissues, a cup of tea or a glass of wine, and someplace comfortable to snuggle into. I believe you will you will enjoy this book as much as I did so just start reading. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
The story of this unlikely group of heirs who have gathered to work on restoring the Stillwater Inn and collecting their inheritance continues. Book 3 focuses on Miles’ story. Probably the most reluctant participant of the group, he’s made no secret of his desire to sell the Inn, take his share and retreat back into his own world. But, even on the island, his past has caught up to him and things take an unexpected turn. The twists and discoveries keep coming. I can’t wait to learn what happens next.
Showing up, dependable, available. Miles Larson has spent his life being none of these things. Now, spending a year with five other heirs of the Stillwater Inn, he is beginning to see what he has been avoiding. Being pressured by IronGate to force the heirs to sell the Inn, his children all showing up there, all of a sudden letting his mask slip and letting people in, he realizes his past errors must be made right if he is going to be able to ‘find his true north’. Reconciliation, forgiveness - of others and self - understanding, and inclusion opens his eyes to what his life can be, as a family forms in front of his eyes.
I read this book as an advance reader and first of all it is an awesome series. This is Miles story in the new Stillwater Inn series and Miles is the last of the 6 characters that I would have thought would come around to the request Ida made of the them. But his story will keep you riveted and you will be pleasantly surprised at his character. I'll not add more due to spoiler alert but you don't want to miss any of these heartwarming second chance reads!!
This is Miles’ story in the series. His daughter shows up pregnant, and a son he never knew about comes to meet him. Throughout the story, Miles comes to grips with something that happened many years ago, and he vows to make things right. His character develops in many ways, and he discovers a family he never wanted when Ida’s will threw them together. The author has a way of instilling real life into her characters, despite their flaws and because of them, too.
In book 3 of the Stillwater Inn series, we return to the unlikely group of heirs tasked with restoring the Stillwater Inn. It’s Miles turn to tell his story. We learn why he developed the habit of running away from dealing with things and watch as he slowly finds redemption. Tammy Grace at her best writes a gripping and emotional story that will have you smiling while occasionally reaching for a tissue.
Miles’s story is moving and uplifting, the one person in the group of ‘heirs’ who really just wants to cash in and move on, the person who keeps himself as ‘the outsider’ not engaging with the group, not really helping with the renovations, enjoy reading his journey, it’s had me laughing and crying. Brilliantly written by Tammy L Grace, I can very much recommend all her books.
This is Miles' story. I must admit I disliked him and his sister. I couldn't understand why Ida would have them as part of her heirs. Finishing this book, I realized why. My perspective has changed and I admire Ida more and more. Just in real life, you wish you could change things that you've done and wish you could talk to important people in your life that has past on.
This was so so good. I just love how each character gets their own introduction and you get to see how their change, grow, bond with their family and rewrite past wrongs. You are so deeply engaged you might just forget that to-do list you planned but instead you pick up this book. I highly recommend it and don't plan do do anything for the day. Enjoy
Harbor Winds flows nicely from book two Harbor Echoes focusing on Miles and the guilt he’s been dealing with for many years. Tammy Grace crafted Miles into a likable character flaws and all.
This series has been really good. I always loved the characters from recent series. Jeff, Sam the whole gang come back in the other books. Tammy Graces books are great reads!!!
I have been enjoying my time with Tammy L. Grace’s new Stillwater Inn Series and the new friends I am making on the island. If you have been a fan of the Hometown Harbor Series, the Stillwater Inn Series lives in the world of Hometown Harbor. You will be able to catch up with some of the friends we have made and meet some new ones!
The whole premise is a little unique. The first book is Harbor Dream. That is when we meet Ida Grayson who is dying and devised the plan that we see put in place in this series. In her will she has left the run down Stillwater Inn to her two adult children and two step-children, a friend named Tully and a stranger to the rest.
In book two, Harbor Echoes we see all the heirs come together to learn of the will and then later arrive to live in the caretaker’s house while working on the Inn. It is also told from the viewpoint of Bryn, who is Ida’s daughter.
Book three is Harbor Winds. This book was so good! We get to see how the dynamics of the heirs change as they start working together to restore the Inn and it is told from the viewpoint of Miles, Ida’s Stepson. Each book will be told from one of the heirs. You get to learn more about their lives and relationship with Ida.
They are very good and I find myself regretting the end of each book, but I am also looking forward to the next one to learn a little more about who is telling the story. The characters are like each of us who have had hurdles to conquer in our lives.
I hope you all are well and things are going great in your reading world. You really need to join me and Tammy L. Grace at the Stillwater Inn. Come and sit a spell and enjoy the Harbor Winds! Until next time…Happy Reading! Phyllis Don’t forget to support the authors you read by leaving a review. Even a few words help.
