I am fully convinced the author has never had human interaction. Characters reacted and responded to situations in a way that was not believable, and there was zero character development on any of the characters.
Al and Maddie came off as incredibly fake.
What employer is going to have a new employee call in twice in their first week and just be like "oh, that's okay. Take care of yourself"? Also, for a part time job, all she does after getting the job is work and go to therapy.
And then the continuity issues. Just one example, Iris is walking down a DARK alley (for the 2nd time - alone - because girls definitely do that - especially when the last time they went that way, a drunk tried to force himself on her). Gets surrounded by 8 men. Her therapist shows up to rescue her (the 8 men are afraid of this one therapist???), they go to a Cafe, and then he drops her off at home. The next sentence is then "as evening settles on my flat". Huh? Scene started in a dark alley - how is evening just now settling?
On the bright side, it's double spaced, so made for a quick read.
