Willow is at a crossroads. After caring for her father during his final days, she comes home to her flat in London wondering what’s next. Whether it’s traveling to some exotic location or starting her career in fashion, the only thing she is certain of is that she wants to finally experience the love she reads about in books. When a fluke change in the weather brings a sexy stranger into her life, she decides to throw caution to the wind and take her chances on love, which brings her to Memphis, Tennessee. Seeing her happily ever after in front of her, Willow is thrown for a loop when she finds out she isn’t the only one vying for the woman she knows is the one for her. Now standing in unfamiliar territory, Willow prepares for the fight of her life, the fight to win the heart of the woman she loves from the woman who held the heart to begin with. Katrina’s stuck between a rock and a hard place. On one hand she has the woman she loved, who left her high and dry, and on the other hand, an exciting new possibility. When the ultimatum is placed in front of her, does she go for the new beauty from across the pond, or stay with the one who got away? Does this chef create the perfect dish, or is it a recipe for disaster?
Skyy is a 30-year-old writer from Memphis, TN. Her first novel, Choices, was released in 2007, and quickly gained popularity both within the gay and lesbian community and the urban fiction community. The highly anticipated sequel, Consequences, was released in 2009 with high praise, and rocketed to the top-10 best-seller lists on Amazon.com as well as at independent bookstores across the country.
Touted as the next E. Lynn Harris, Skyy blurs the lines between lesbian and straight communities in her fiction by speaking with intimate familiarity about the striking commonalities of loving and living as African American women in urban America. The books resonate with truismsamong women of all ages and gender identities.
Right now Skyy is working hard to bring her books to the screen.
In Skyy’s spare time. she enjoys traveling and spending time at home. When she is not on the road with her books, she is a club promoter.
This was an easy and quick read. I liked it, but I felt the author needed more character development, giving each their own "history" and details. It felt quite rushed, and somewhat superficial.
This story happened so quickly! I needed more time with Katrina, Devon, Teri and Willow. Each character seemed cool in their own right but we don't get to know them well. It's like getting snapshots of different moments in their lives and I wanted to be able to follow them throughout their day.
I like all the characters but Saura was trifling. How you gonna up and leave your girl then been mad when she doesn't take you back. YOU left her. Not the other way round. Saura was immature and unwilling to discuss her plans for the future. She obviously left with no plans of coming back, especially since she just left with no warning after only telling Katrina she was leaving three days before she was supposed to. And to make matters worse she knew for a whole month that she was leaving but didn't tell her lady? BS!
Oh but then there's Katrina who is not a victim but she has been done dirty by Saura. So Katrina who is so in love and so hard to talk to meets Willow in London and they connect hard. What I love about how they meet is that they don't instantly have sex. They spend time together and have fun with each other and I thought that was so sweet.
The real drama doesn't start until Katrina returns to the States only to find that Saura (the heifer!) has returned trying to get back with her. This was my hell no moment. What got me is that Katrina gave her the time of day. I would have changed the locks on my house and told her to leave and never come back.
Believe it or not the story gets more chaotic from there. If you mix in Devon and Teri's story lines, you learn more about the ways that this crew of friends deals with relationships. Also I really appreciated Ming and Carlos! They were really sweet by honest with Teri about her life and they are obvious part of this trio's family.
I will keep reading Skyy's work but I really want more information about the main characters. I want some flashbacks and reminiscing about past relationships and jobs and families. I want to be able to feel like I'm walking with them so I understand who they are and what they want from life.
I have been a long time fan of Skyy since Choices came out. All books in the series I honestly couldn't get enough of. Unfortunately, I don't think this one was as well put together as those books were. I felt like the story lines for Devon and Teri were fillers that could have been better left out. I would have loved to have read more about Katrina and Willow and that whole assorted affair. If not that, at least had better division between the story lines. When it came to Devon's and Teri's storylines, they seemed rushed and thrown together.
Now granted, I enjoyed the overall story and I did have some investment in the characters. Again, unfortunately, when I found myself really getting into it, the multitude of grammatical errors created a pause. At this point, I would really expect a better editing job.
Am I interested to know what happened next? A little, because I was intrigued by the characters, even if there was a lack of development. That said, I honestly felt like these characters could have been given so much more life. The novel comes off very rushed and slightly amateur.
Whether I would recommend it or not, I don't know. I am a bit conflicted, because although I was into it, it was a more difficult read than it had to be. If you are a fan of Skyy, you will push through. I hope if she does release another book, she gets an editor or at least have a friend who loves English or does clerical work read it over first. Either way, I will likely continue to support her and her work.
So I actually don’t read lesbian romances, when I read gay romance I usually read m/m. So this was my first and I did enjoy very much. When you get to Terri‘s character and you meet Victoria I definitely knew that was gonna be karma served on the big silver platter. Which was very well deserved. Because when Terri is being brought up so she’s in the car with a girl. And she just seemed annoyed by the girl for no reason. And then when they go to describe Porsche she legit was talking about her in the negative. but she was working at a daycare and she didn’t care to go out and spend money and hit the club up. She was cool with a quiet evening at home and cooking dinner and cleaning for you. Terri was clearly terrified of commitment so it was just easier to get with lower class girls who really don’t want anything serious you can see are low-key golddiggers. But Porsche was not that person. And then Victoria walks on that elevator. I’m like oh yeah she’s gonna fall for this girl and this bitch is going to break her heart.
Now at one point at the restaurant opening they made it seem like Devon had feelings for Katrina cuz she said that she was looking at her best friend differently and she wanted to keep her distance from Katrina. That was kind of weird and didn’t need to be brought up or mentioned. Because it’s never talked about again. Devon actually goes and hooks up with her ex. I feel like Devon really wasn’t talked about enough like she needed to. I mean she realizes the hook up with her ex was a mistake cusses her out and walks away with a new sense of self pride. But the main plot of the story was in fact Katrina and Willow. I was actually listening to this on Audible and the narrator could’ve done so much better Because I was not aware that they were actually in the city of London. The narrator didn’t do no type of British accent so it took me a minute to really get into the story. But once it got to Katrina and Zara and that whole roller coaster that’s what really drew me in. It was definitely more focused on Katrina and that’s OK. And Devon and Terri were more like side characters.
Now the fight at Terri’s birthday that was hilarious. Again I was listening to this on audible. These characters are from Memphis Tennessee I’m from Nashville so that whole thing was 100% relatable and pretty damn real. Ha ha ha But when it came to that fight scene and the part where they’re at the club and they’re creepy drunk dude comes on too strong to Willow you feel like Terri was probably the toughest out of the three of them so how she’s not throwing people left and right is baffling cuz they put her down as a strong person. But I guess not everybody’s a fighter but in those situations a fist should’ve got thrown. Especially at the first club with the man after she finds out that Victoria is married. I thought she was for the lay guy out but it says that he pushed her to the ground she fell and that was it.
But all in all I did enjoy the story. Again I read gay romance but it’s always between two men so reading between women and their love lives was different but in a good way. I would actually hope there’s a sequel with these characters cuz I would really like to see what happens with everybody. Does Porsche give Terri a second chance? And what about Devon and piper? does Willow make the jump and come to America to be with Katrina? A sequel can definitely happen.

Kinda had a rough start with the jumping to different characters stories so fast but once I got into the book, it was great. I’d love to see more butch/fem stories that aren’t socialites. And more strapping lol...I’ve read all of her books and can’t wait for the next release
Very interesting. I'm glad Willow found someone but she seems like the only one with a head on her shoulders with this group of women. Everyone seems to have a bit of past but the author doesn't really touch on it. Some parts predictable but this book was entertaining.
This was a very well written book. After a long relationship a woman's girlfriend breaks up with her. She meets another woman in London and since she has an extra ticket to Paris, she invites her. It doesn't take long for love to blossom, but then the ex returns. How does it turn out.
I really enjoyed the story, but wanted to like it a little more because of the diversity of characters and their relationship issues. I felt the story as a whole was really kick ass, but the way it was written is what really spoiled it for me. I felt the writing was too rushed and we wasn't given enough time to really know the characters. I would love to have received more background information about the friends, Piper, Terri, and Devon. I felt these women were just thrown at me and I had to figure it out on my own why they dealt with things the way they did. Overall I enjoyed the book and would read it again if a part two was created. Skyy is a great writer and her lesbian stories are very interesting to read.
There's good bones here. It was a little bare in some spots as far as details go and the ending fell flat but judging the author's other works I believe she left an opening for a series. The sex scenes got a little repetitive but I still enjoyed the book.
I normally don't read urban lit because as a black woman I find it woefully unrelatable. Folks finding Jesus all hither and yon and a stereotypical stream of hood shit.
This was not that. These characters were fleshed out and three dimensional. These characters were likable instead of pitiful. Nice work.
Southern Comfort, was a fresh and delightful read. a constant page turner. Skyy's eloquent and descriptive script brought me to every land mark, made me feel every emotion and experience sensuality through her words. Readers will live vicariously through the author, following her to many amazing sights. from Europe and back to the United States. I have successfully read ALL of Skyy's books and I am incredibly sad they're over.
This read was awesome! If I didn't have to work I would have had this finished in one day! I felt like I was there as all this went down. I laughed, I got angry, I had my "yes!" moments. I have enjoyed all the books you have written which has made me a fan. Your books are so relatable and you make the story come to life!! Keep it up!!
Skyy did a very good job in this book as she did in previous novels. The story line was very well written the characters were believable, there were a lot of funny parts in the story. Teri Katrina and Devon were such true friends and they had each others back and gave and took advice well.
