No One Gets Out

Rate this book
Tomorrow was supposed to be the walk-through.
Then the lights went out. No warning. No accident. And the people inside know her name.

She built things for a living. He had been watching her for three weeks. Neither of them was ever supposed to leave that lodge. Tara has one night to understand why he came for her. And what she left behind twenty years ago that she never let herself name.

The worst part isn’t that he was right. The worst part is that she already knew.

ARC Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
No One Gets Out by TJ Roelyn
Released April 2026

First off, thank you for trusting me with another ARC. Always appreciated. Nothing says love quite like handing someone a story that slowly crawls into their bloodstream and makes them uncomfortable in all the right ways.

At the start, I’ll be honest—I was confused as hell. Not bad confused. More the kind where your brain knows something is wrong before your eyes catch up. That low, nasty feeling under the skin. The tiny alarm bells. The hairs on the back of your neck standing up like they pay rent there. My gut was screaming something is off, but had the decency not to explain what, who, or why.

And that’s where Roelyn is annoyingly good.

The writing feels precise. Controlled. Like every word was placed there with intent and every sentence knows exactly what damage it wants to do. Nothing wasted. Nothing accidental. It lingers. It hangs around after you stop reading like smoke in a room that should have been aired out hours ago.

This may be a short story, but it doesn’t feel small. It carries weight. Secrets. Old wounds still bleeding through fresh clothes. Pain that never really left, it just learned to sit quietly in the corner until someone opened the door again. It’s a sharp reminder that time doesn’t erase anything. It just teaches people how to hide it better. Nobody outruns the past. Some people just get better shoes.

I won’t spoil the rest, because suffering should be personal.

What I will say is this: the setting is tight, claustrophobic, and deeply unsettling. The kind that makes you feel like the walls are inching closer while everyone in the room is lying through their teeth. It plays with your head. Makes you question motives, memories, and who the real monster is. Because sometimes the obvious villain is just there to distract you from someone worse.

Well written, dark, clever, and deeper than its length suggests. That said, Roelyn has written books that wrecked me even more, so this lands at four stars instead of five.

Four claustrophobic, suspiciously side-eyeing stars from me.

First, I would like to thank TJ Roelyn for allowing me this early read. I’m honored that you placed your trust in me.

Throughout the book, I was struck by a deeply uncomfortable feeling that lingered from start to finish. At times, it even bordered on claustrophobic, which added to the intensity of the experience. I found myself getting completely lost in the story.
The twist, however, caught me entirely off guard. I wasn’t expecting it, and while it was impactful, it also left me feeling somewhat confused as I tried to process everything it revealed.

“Tomorrow was supposed to be the walk-through.
Then the lights went out. No warning. No accident.
And the people inside knew her name.
He had been watching her for three weeks.
Neither of them was ever supposed to leave that lodge.
Now Tara has one night to understand why he came for her—
and what she left behind twenty years ago.
The worst part isn’t that he was right.
It’s that she already knew.”

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. The short chapters make it a quick, engaging read that’s hard to put down. Just be prepared—it might completely blow your mind!

Content Note:
This story includes scenes of violence, fire-related trauma, and psychological distress, as well as themes of betrayal and loss.

I absolutely loved this read! I discovered this author via posts of their first novel and I’ve been hooked on their work since! This book was no exception. It was tense from the beginning. Even the cover creates a sense of dread. You get multiple pov and I love the insight into what the characters are thinking, how they act, and how they react to certain events. This was honestly one heck of a ride and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. You need to just go ahead and read this one!

Another fantastic read from T. J. Roelyn! This one had me hooked from the very first page and kept me completely invested all the way through. Dark, twisted, and full of tension, the story slowly builds before delivering an ending I never saw coming. The characters felt real and layered, adding even more depth to an already gripping plot. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough—definitely a must-read for fans of suspense.

One word: Incredible! This book sets the scene, and then gets right into the excitement. Questioning, wondering, nail biting, tense for what's to come (in the best way!). Grabs you from the get go and holds you throughout. And that twist?! Did NOT see that coming! Highly recommend!

The twist is in there somewhere and I'm not telling you where. Good luck.

This story hits the ground running! It starts strong and fast, immediately pulling you into the chaos without looking back. I especially loved the "before you start" section at the beginning, it set the perfect tone and built a layer of anticipation before I even turned to Chapter One.

The standout feature here is the incredibly unique character perspective. The author writes through a lens of clinical efficiency; we see the protagonist taking in information, "filing it away for later," and manually "pushing down" emotions or past traumas with zero to very little context.

That twist! I honestly didn't see it coming. I had zero guesses in that direction, which is a rare treat. The way the "uncontextualized" data points finally click together makes the earlier mental work totally worth it.

An intense, deeply psychological thriller that trades traditional emotional connection for a high-speed, tactical perspective. If you like a protagonist who is as disciplined as they are haunted, this is a must-read.

No One Gets Out by T.J. Roelyn is a tense, claustrophobic psychological thriller that trades traditional emotional bonding for a high-speed, tactical perspective.
Starting with a tone-setting "before you start" section, the narrative wastes no time pulling the reader into a chaotic "madhouse" seen through the eyes of a protagonist who operates with clinical efficiency—filing away data points and suppressing trauma with disciplined focus.
While the large cast of characters can occasionally lead to confusion, the relentless pacing and a genuinely shocking, "zero-guess" twist make the mental legwork entirely worthwhile.
A 4-star, action-filled must-read for fans of disciplined, haunted leads and stories where every uncontextualized detail eventually clicks into a dark, gripping reality.

A tense, claustrophobic thriller that wastes no time pulling you in. T.J. Roelyn leans into atmosphere and psychological unease, building a story that feels sharp, controlled, and quietly unsettling. The pacing is relentless without feeling rushed, and the emotional undercurrent adds weight to every twist. Dark, gripping, and hard to put down.

This book starts and doesn't stop, it's not a quick fun read, you have to pay 100% attention or you'll be lost. The way the main characters mind works is very cool to witness, and I'm not sure I've ever read something similar. While it's not my favorite of T.J. Roelyn's, there's no denying the talent this author holds.

Was a good read. I liked it. This is my first book of his so no other books to judge it by. It held my interest. Many twists and turns. I couldn’t guess so many things. The only thing I didn’t like was that you really had to pay attention to what was going on or you would miss something. But I will definitely be reading more by this author.

This book hooks you from the start! There’s no waiting to get into the terror. The calculated presence of each character shines. And the twist at the end… never saw it coming. Add this to your must read list!

This is a unique writing style that does require you to pay attention the whole way through or you’ll get lost. It’s quick paced, has a great twist, and while it is not my favorite of this author, I can tell that a lot of thought was put in this to have such a different approach to storytelling.

Wow what a read. I loved this storyline, also made you think throughout the book. I had a few thoughts about the ending. Hoping that there maybe a second book. Either way was an awesome read that I would highly recommend to anyone.
