All's Fair in Love and Blood

Rate this book
Love bites. Vampires suck.
Marrying one? That might be the worst idea of all.

Nicolette Hart believes in science, not fairy tales. Unfortunately for her, vampires are very real—and one of them just coerced her into marriage.

Julian Rossi is powerful, ruthless, and devastatingly charming. He claims marrying Nicolette is the only way to protect her after her late mother’s groundbreaking research puts her in the crosshairs of a hidden supernatural world. Nicolette is fairly certain he’s the problem, not the solution.

What she doesn’t know is that her mother’s work wasn’t just revolutionary—it was deadly. And now Nicolette holds the missing pieces, making her the key to a discovery that could change the vampire world forever . . . or destroy it.

Compelled to play the part of loving newlyweds while enemies draw closer, Nicolette and Julian strike an uneasy truce. Trust is fragile. Chemistry is inconvenient. And pretending they’re not falling for each other is impossible. But the closer they grow, the more dangerous it becomes for them both.

Because in a world where blood is power and love is a liability, trusting the wrong person could cost Nicolette her life . . . and Julian his soul.

All’s Fair in Love and Blood is a dark, witty, marriage‑of‑inconvenience, enemies‑to‑lovers vampire romance featuring sharp banter, high‑stakes science, and a love story where restraint is just as powerful as passion.

Watch out- this book will snag you, hook, line, and sinker. What began as an intriguing story quickly turned into an all-out book binge and a lot less sleep as I raced to finish in less than 24 hours. It’s just that good!

The story starts out with a wedding, between a human and a vampire, Nicolette and Julian. I love that we jumped right into everything, and the plot just thickened from there. Nicolette is incredibly smart, shy and introverted, but Julian quickly learns his bride is also full of spunk and fire. Julian is (of course!) handsome as all get out and wealthy and charismatic, a lethal combination for a vampire hero. I loved reading their alternating perspectives, and definitely snort-laughed a time or two hearing some of their thoughts (ahem— “take-me-now Barbie”, lol).

Despite the animosity at the beginning of their marriage, Julian and Nicolette quickly learn there is more at stake than either bargained for, as secrets no one thought possible come to light and danger lurks around every corner. Walls are let down as they race to uncover the truth, and soon their pretended wedded bliss starts becoming all too real.

There’s so much more to this story than first meets the eye, and the depth of character development and plot build up were wonderfully done. There’s angst, buried secrets, mysteries, friendships, strained family relations, the science of pathology, and so much more, but my favorite by far was the oh-so-swoony romance between Julian and Nicolette. It was so much more than passion, and watching their relationship change and grow had my toes curling in delight. This book is definitely a new favorite, and one I will be reading again and again- I hope we get more of this story, these characters, and this world in future books!

I NEED MORE!!! Please, please, please, tell me that there will be more books in this world Mrs. Peel!!! I loved every moment of it and I need to see more with the secondary characters and get their stories, and most definitely I need more of Julian and Nicolette!!! Be still my heart!!! Okay, maybe don't be still my heart when reviewing a vampire book—hahaha—but you know what I mean! There's soooo much that I want to say about this book. I need my book besties to read it so we can have a book club discussion about it! I'll have to be patient for them to do so!

Ohhh, after you read the book, you definitely need to read the bonus chapter! I used the link at the end of the digital book, but hopefully it'll be included in the paperback, because Oh My Heart!!! Yep! You must read it! I can't give away things! Just trust me!

The opening of the book had me swooning and giggling! Poor Nicolette is trying to survive marrying Julian, whom she knows is a vampire. And she's not going into this lightly or without some snark and wit! Good job Nicolette! And I just love how much more it makes Julian fall for her! The dynamics between their relationship are sooooo good!!! *Happy Sigh* The reveal of their backstory and learning more about Julian's reasons as we read the book from his POV chapters had me falling for him too! Each time I read a new book by this author, I love every couple even more than the last, but Julian and Nicolette definitely take the cake!!! Wowsers! So much chemistry and tension and frustration. The building of trust and friendship...and then the growing love between them. Jennifer Peel is a true artist in her writing skills and in developing great love stories!

I was completely invested in Nicolette's research and her trying to discover what her mother had been working on and trying to help Julian. But it all makes her a bigger target for whoever is after her mother's research. I loved the science aspects and the mystery behind so much of it! Very creative and well developed storyline! It kept me guessing trying to figure out what was going to happen. I didn't figure it out until right as the big reveal was happening! I love when an author can do that!

Just be warned that you need a cleared schedule when you pick up this book because you most definitely will NOT want to put it down! It will hook you from the beginning and keep you captive until the ending. Even then, you'll be thinking about this story and characters long after you finish it!!!

The chemistry and swoon factor is off the charts! Julian had me grinning from ear to ear as he slowly pulls down Nicolette's walls in all of his thoughtfulness towards her! Anyone looking for a book boyfriend because the perfect one has been written in this book. Just ignore the fact that he's a vampire and craves blood! Hahaha! Nicolette is perfectly safe with Julian, he wouldn't let anything happen to her!

Content: PG-13ish. This book is a marriage of convenience story. The characters share a bed for reasons, even though Nicolette fights being around Julian. There are several innuendos throughout the book. The couple are married and there is a fade to black scene. There are a couple mild swear words scattered throughout the book. Some moments of mild peril and fighting.

I received a copy from the author but have also purchased my own copy. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

This book surprised me in the best way possible! I absolutely loved this not-your-ordinary marriage-of-convenience, enemies-to-lovers romance, and all my fingers are crossed that this is the start of a series because I'm not ready to leave this world behind.

Nicolette Hart is one of my favorite contemporary romance heroines in a long time. She's gorgeous, brilliant, fiercely loyal, and her inner dialogue had me laughing throughout the entire book. Lines like, Maybe I'd just carry a syringe and shout, I'll make you human if you come any closer. perfectly capture her wit and personality. And don't even get me started on her alter ego, "take-me-now Barbie!" Nicolette is the kind of character I'd love to have as a friend.

Then there's Julian Rossi. Yes, he's a vampire, but he's also surprisingly patient, caring, and willing to take everything Nicolette throws at him. The chemistry between these two is absolutely electric. I could practically feel the sparks flying through my Kindle. And the swoon factor? Off the charts. Hold onto your hearts, ladies, because Julian is everything a book boyfriend should be. Trust me on this one.

Beyond the romance, I loved the suspense woven throughout the story. The mystery of Nicolette's mother's research, the hidden supernatural world, and the constant danger surrounding the characters kept me turning pages. The enemies-to-lovers relationship felt authentic, the banter was fantastic, and the emotional moments hit just right. By the end, I was completely invested not only in Nicolette and Julian but also in the supporting characters. Jennifer Peel has me desperately hoping for another book—preferably one centered on Cyrus and Daphne!

If you enjoy paranormal romance, forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers tension, witty heroines, swoony heroes, and plenty of suspense, All's Fair in Love and Blood is one you won't want to miss. I received a copy from the author. All opinions in the review are my own.

This book was AMAZING. This book was such a fun surprise. All’s Fair in Love and Blood had the perfect mix of romance, suspense, humor, and chemistry that kept me hooked from the beginning. Jennifer Peel always does such a great job creating characters that feel relatable and easy to root for, and this story was no exception.

Julian and Nicolette were EVERYTHING. The banter? Top tier. The tension? Stressful in the best possible way. At several points I wanted to shake them, hug them, and lock them in a room together until they admitted their feelings like emotionally responsible adults.

If you love romantic suspense with sharp humor, ridiculous chemistry, and enough twists to keep you saying “just one more chapter,” definitely pick this one up.

I read it. I LOVED it. I want to read it again. And I want more of this. Please let there be more books like this. The openings are there. (🙏🙏🙏) I'm such a fan of this author and her new Vampire book!!

Nicolette is super smart. I love this about her. She has been burned a bit by Julian and I love that she makes him work for her trust.

I was hooked from the very beginning of this book. I loved the tension, the banter, the unfolding back story and the danger woven in. It was so well done. I couldn't read fast enough which is why I should go back and read it again. To savor it more. 😂 I'm such a fan of a guy in hot pursuit of a woman, proving in steady and certain ways his loyalty and devotion. I got this on every page of this book. Umm, yum.
I would give it more stars if I could.

All's Fair in Love and Blood is a fang-tastically written love story. The vampire–scientist combo is so uniquely adorable it should be peer‑reviewed. Who knew vampires could be so hot and swoony - 5 stars all the way!

As a scientist in Haematology I'm sometimes a little wary of books that contain science or medicine but Jennifer Peel has absolutely nailed this. I can only B-Positive about how well written it is. The way that the author has carefully woven science into this whilst keeping it a gripping swoony romance so that you're completely hooked on Julian and Nicolette's story is to be applauded.

I loved this so much. I'm really hoping the dashing Cyrus gets his own book.
The side characters were intriguing and the storytelling was so original.

I love how Jennifer Peel’s writing continues to be fresh and inventive even after 40+ books.
I would happily recommend this to anyone

What an exciting book to read! Filled with impressive sciencey-nerdy concepts (which I love), blood-sucking vampires (another fun favorite), and an emotionally charged love story (the cream of the crop for me), it hooked me from the beginning. I love that the "science" used sounded real enough to help the book feel believable. And I truly loved that the relationship developed emotionally and relied on trust in order to grow into something potentially lasting. I tend to love Jennifer Peel's books, but I can honestly say this was one of my favorites of hers so far.

A must read Vampire Romance has hit the scene!!!

Oh. My. Word!!! I think I have said that about 100 times since finishing this book, which I somehow finished in ONE day because I literally could not stop reading. Laundry may or may not have been abandoned. Dinner was definitely delayed because this book had that much of a chokehold on me. And the last 15% of this book?! Absolutely mind-blowing!!

The tension between Nicolette and Julian is absolute FIRE!! The chemistry is off the charts, and the banter?! Oh, the banter is BANTERING!!

Nicolette is so easy to love!! Her desire to help continue her mother’s legacy and the way she slowly opens her heart and soul to Julian was incredible to watch unfold.

And Julian… whew. He pulls off the “touch-her-and-die” vibes SO well while still being ridiculously charming. The more I learned about him and his family’s history, the more my jaw just stayed on the floor! There is SO much more to Julian and the Rossis than you first realize, but I am saying absolutely nothing because I refuse to spoil anything.

And the plot twists?!?! HOLY MOLY. I swear the last 30 pages had me reading so fast I could barely keep up with my own brain because I NEEDED to know what was going to happen next!!

Can we talk about the side characters in this book? They completely make the story! Nicolette’s friend Daphne is an absolute riot—I was literally laughing out loud."

Miss Jennifer, I am begging for book 2 ASAP because I am already dying for it!!!

Content notes: This story contains mild innuendos, mild language, some violence, suspense/stalking, and a marriage-of-inconvenience trope. The couple does share a bed for specific reasons to the plot, and intimacy within marriage is discussed, but there is no explicit content.

Some of my favorite out of context quotes

‘“Oh my Frodo Baggins, he kissed me,” Daphne squealed into the phone.
What! Oh, no. No, no, no.
This was not happening. My best friend was not kissing a vampire.’

‘And as lovely as a stay in the psych ward sounded right now, I didn’t have time for it.’

‘Death was easy. Life was the risk. And life with Nicolette was the greatest risk of all.’

‘I was starting to understand something else—truth was irreversible. Once you had it, there was no going back. The truth didn’t always set you free. Sometimes it grabbed hold of you and shook you to your core.’

“Love bites. Vampires suck. Marrying one? That might be the worst idea of all.”

Jennifer Peel has done it again with an incredibly sizzling and swoony story and this time, a hot new take on vampires. This darker marriage of convenience pulled me in from the very page and I was held hostage until the end. I was definitely a willing hostage, but still–I was gripped and fascinated throughout every single chapter.

“And in that instant, with his strength wrapped around me and his desire overwhelming every sense I had left, I understood one terrible truth. I was going to die. Worst honeymoon ever.”

I loved the dual points-of-view and watching Julian and Nicolette battle their fatal attraction to one another, and the wit and banter were stellar. Vividly portrayed, this duo flew off the pages and into my mind in the ultimate mind movie. The mystery element only added bonus points to the chemistry and plot, making this one a new favorite to top my list.

Full of wit, high-stakes, unavoidable passion, and science, All’s Fair in Love and Blood is a story not to be missed!

⚠️mild language and innuendo

Vampires and marriage of convenience? Who knew this was a trope mashup I had been waiting for. I really enjoyed this fresh new book by Jennifer Peel. It was like if Twilight and The Proposal had a baby in that it definitely gave me Bella/Edward vibes in terms of the attraction and forbidden nature of things while also bringing in some of that enemies to lovers/unlikely match vibes I love in The Proposal. If anything, I needed to get my Buffy on after reading this book.

Nicolette has been forced to marry Julian, the very attractive man she was actually into until she found out he was a vampire AND that he was going to hostilely take over her family's company. In Julian's defense, he's just trying to protect Nicolette and it's not his fault they are both crazy attracted to each other. He's a vampire, but he works hard to be a gentleman with her despite wanting to kiss her all the time. When they do kiss, it was chef’s kiss.

I liked the dual POV, the way the two grow to really know and understand each other, and the kind of mystery driving the "why" of the marriage of convenience with Nicolette's mom and the unknown vampire. I did not predict the true villain until later in the book which was nice. The story was part paranormal fiction, part contemporary romance. It never felt too paranormal for me and I really think fans of the Twilight series will enjoy this one. I was pleasantly surprised at the end to know it’s going to be a series and I’m looking forward to more with these characters.

Content: innuendo at a PG 13 level. There is swearing and while I can handle mild swearing, I’m giving this one 4.5 stars for me due to a little bit of the overuse of the male form of the 'B' word. It just pulled me out of the book after it was used more frequently than I personally felt necessary. The plot was entertaining, though, and I enjoyed their romance; Jennifer Peel definitely has a signature swoon you’ll see here. I would consider this closed door romance with an almost fade to black scene, but it was more that you know they did it (you don’t really see anything other than they wake up in bed together). I recommend it for fans of vampires and marriage of convenience.

I received an advance reader copy of this novel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

🌶️: FTB w/ innuendo and frequent discussion of intimacy between a husband and wife (due to Julian being a vampire, mating is a huge deal in his “culture”. It is discussed frequently between Julian/Nicolette but done in a way that doesn’t feel lusty, but rather a husband and wife wanting to show love in all ways)
🤬: mild

I absolutely devoured this book. I am so excited to find a closed door vampire romance that was this good. (I love that you get all the fun of vampires, but without the usual blood k*nk stuff most spice books in this subgenre have) From chapter 1 it grabbed my attention and I just couldn’t put it down.

Nicolette is a genius and such a kind soul. All she wants to do is work in her lab and help people. BUT she’s in quite the predicament. She finds herself unwillingly walking down the aisle to her new groom who just so happens to be a vampire. Kinda gives new meaning to the phrase til death do us part…
Julian gives Nicolette no other choice but to marry him, or else she’ll lose her family’s company and quite possibly her life (though he doesn’t explain how or why at the time).

Nicolette is determined to hate Julian for manipulating her, but once she gets to know him she finds she might actually be falling in love with her husband. Julian is the sweetest, most charming man! He calls Nicolette “darling” all the time and it is the cutest thing. He even sets up this cute little staycation at home date night that is the thing of dreams! I loved getting to know more about his life as a vampire over the centuries. I also loved how he started to change and become more in tune with his emotions once he started to fall for his Nicolette.

This book is fun, action packed, and filled with loads of sizzling chemistry. I loved Jennifer’s take on the vampire universe, and I can’t wait to see where she takes it in book 2!

I’m officially obsessed with All’s Fair in Love and Blood by Jennifer Peel—there’s honestly no better word for it.

This story is unique from her other books, and she pulls it off beautifully. It’s the vampire romance I didn’t know I needed, blending swoony moments with real tension and danger. I appreciated the science and genetics woven into it that adds just enough plausibility to make the vampire elements feel believable.

Julian is everything you want in a vampire: seductive, mysterious, and completely besotted with his wife. He’s also charming, morally complex, and deliciously protective of Nicolette. The tension between them is palpable and electric.

And Nicolette? I absolutely adore her. She’s intelligent, strong, a little quirky, slightly awkward in the most endearing way, and completely lovable. Watching her step out of the shadows and come into her own was one of my favorite parts of the book.

Daphne, Nicolette’s bff, is the kind of best friend everyone wishes they had—supportive, loyal, and always ready to head into a cemetery at night wearing a Ghostbusters costume. I need a fun, nerdy friend just like her, and I’d happily read an entire book centered on her.

In addition to being wildly entertaining, I also appreciated the deeper themes woven in. The idea that living forever might not be the gift it seems, especially through Justin’s perspective, invited some reflective thinking about mortality and what it means to be human.

If you enjoy vampire romance with depth, heart, fabulous characters, and a touch of danger, this one is absolutely worth the read!

This book was super fun. Nicolette must marry Julian…who she used to be head over heels in love with–from their very first meet-cute. But now, marriage to him is her worst nightmare, now that she knows who he truly is. A vampire who claims he wants to keep her safe, but he’s taken over her family’s bio-lab and she now pretty much hates his guts. Except every time he gets near her, his vampire pheromones or whatever make her forget that she hates him. She has to work very hard to remember that he’s forced her into a loveless marriage and that she’ll never get to have children and a true loving family because of that. I don’t want to give away any of the plot, so just know that I loved it. The characters were well-developed and I loved them all. The plot has lots of tricks and treats that kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting to discover what happened next. It’s a fun story, full of clean romance and unique characters. Amazing book!

I read All’s Fair in Love and Blood by Jennifer Peel in about three days because I genuinely couldn’t put it down. It has the perfect mix of mystery, action, romance, and just enough science to make me feel like I understood what was happening… even when I definitely didn’t.

The pacing was incredibly addictive. I kept doing the “just one more chapter” thing and suddenly it was too late, or too early depending on how you look at it, and I was still reading.

The first book felt like it lacked a bit more development for some of the side characters, especially Cyrus, so hopefully in the second book we’ll learn more about his past through Nicolette’s point of view.

Overall, a fast, engaging read that left me wanting more, just not quite ready for spin-offs yet. And I am very much ready for the second book.

I really enjoyed this book. The tension between the MCs was amazing, and the story line was definitely different and a nice change.

I’m no stranger to vampire books. I’m a die-hard Twilight fan, so I felt right at home with this one. It was not quite as intense as some other vampire stories, like The Vampire Diaries (which I’m also obsessed with), but there was definitely some suspense.

It starts out with a marriage of convenience, and the bride literally despises the groom, but at the same time can’t keep her hands off of him. Lol!

I loved all of the banter, and Nicolette was pretty hilarious. I would love to read more books in this world. I absolutely loved it!

Content:
I would consider this fade to black. The couple is married and shares a bed, but there is no explicit content. There is some innuendo.

So, apparently, I'm not a big fan of paranormal romance, except for clean vampire romances. I blame the fact that I was in junior high when Twilight was a thing.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a bit different than the typical romance novel I read, but I really enjoyed the way some of the stereotypical supernatural elements were handled. Jennifer Peel did a good job of including those elements without making them seem cringe. I also loved the fact that the not-romance plot line was just as fleshed out as the romance plot line. It's really easy for those secondary plots to feel like an afterthought in romance novels, but I found myself just as invested in the mystery as I was in the romance.

Still not going to become a paranormal romance person, but I was glad that I gave this one a shot!

I loved this one! Oddly enough, it was released while we were rewatching Vampire Diaries. This one has its own rules for vampires and puts them more in a Sci Fi realm because throughout Nicolette is trying to find a CAUSE for vampirism. This is a fun rom-com meets mystery because the reader is trying to figure out who is trying to go after Nicolette the whole time. The characters feel real and I love the way Julian wants humanity and Nicolette hates him even though his vampire allure makes him do stupid things that makes it look like she loves him even on their forced wedding day. Seriously, this book was really fun. If you like vampires at all you’d love this one.

I received a copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is another outstanding book by Jennifer Peel. It is different because it's about vampires but not like we're used to thinking about them. This author does an excellent job of describing the characters, what they're thinking, how they think, how they act. Oh my gosh, I couldn't put it down. It was fun, romantic, mysterious and just so beautifully written. You will love the love. Looking forward to the next book.

Vampire mystery romance

A bit unlikely Jennifer Peel''s previous books. This is an enemies to lovers, he falls first, paranormal vampire mystery romance. (There's a lot going on here!)

Good enemies to lovers romance - the book starts with a coerced marriage and lots of distrust. I enjoyed the mystery but still have a lot of questions. Looking forward to another vampire book to learn more.

Vampire family

This story in engaging and interesting. I regret it being written as a short rom com style book since it has so many interesting aspects. This could have been written as a deeper, more scientific series of novels. The few tidbits about vampire physiology and Peel’s version of how they exist made me want more details.
There are many make out sessions but more serious action was completely closed door.

all’s fair

This story is interesting and fun. Julian a vampire doesn’t tell Nicolette what he is at first but tells her she must marry him. He wants her help to make him human again. The thought of science making a difference was unique, the way they grew to be friends was sweet. His protective nature was sweet. Can they find the solution and solve her mother’s questions? Read to find out in this intriguing book.

This was definitely not your ordinary marriage of convenience, enemies to lovers book. Vampires, that thankfully do not sparkle, are very real and Nicolette just married one. I love her spunk and bravery so much! Even though she preferred to be a wallflower, she was willing to do what it took to help people. Julian may not have made some great choices, but watching him fall for Nicolette was beautiful. I’m looking forward to the next book!

Contains: kisses, suggestive dialogue dialogue, mild language, and some fighting

It took me a while to get into the book. The FMC despises the MMC for the first quarter of the book then they have a conversation and work things out (imagine that!) but the second he shows he’s not 100% in her corner she calls it quits. Her reaction seemed very extreme to me.

Eagerly awaiting the next book in the series😁

I was not sure about the delve into a vampire as our hero, but Jennifer not only made Julian attractive physically, he is a true gentleman. Nicolette was not a passive protagonist; she was likable, smart and proactive . Loved this, it will be in my must read again and again file!
