Royal Date is by Sariah Wilson. This is the first book I have read of Sariah’s and it was completely delightful.
Every girl dreams of growing up and falling in love with her very own prince charming. Every girl except maybe Katarina MacTaggart. Kat did not have a pleasant childhood. She did not have the everyday luxuries that most of us take for granted. So as an adult, she has her life completely planned out and sticks to her carefully laid out path, never allowing herself to be distracted. She has one more semester to go to graduate from graduate school with her degree in social work. It’s Christmas vacation and her best friend and roommate, Lemon, has convinced her to go on vacation to Monterra for some skiing.
Kat started out on the easy slope but accidentally found herself going very fast down the steeper slopes, completely out of control. After a nasty tumble she finds herself looking up into the most beautiful face she has ever seen.
“He made my ovaries stand up and cheer. I told them to be quiet.”
Prince Nico is completely intrigued by this beautiful woman. He whisks her and her friend Lemon to his castle while she recuperates from her skiing accident. In order to keep her there he offers her the opportunity to write some articles on Monterra and her experiences during her stay.
“The weakness in my ankles was from the accident. The weakness in my knees was all him. Nico practically radiated warmth and charm.”
“Could he at least try to not be like the totally perfect man?”
As Nico and Kat spend time together, the chemistry between them is crazy strong. But Nico is a prince, a future King. Kat grew up in a trailer park. She is going back to Colorado to graduate and to start her career. So she sets boundaries, trying to keep their relationship on a friends only basis. But can she resist Nico’s charm?
“Things like this did not happen to girls like me. But it was happening. And it was kind of, I don’t know, glorious.”
During Kat’s two weeks at the castle in Monterra, she experiences the life of fairy tales. She gets to wear beautiful dresses, attend fancy balls, and is excepted into the heart of Nico’s family, feeling for the first time what it must be like to be a part of a loving family unit.
At the same time, though, she experiences the negative side of it as well. She is hounded by paparazzi, and has to deal with an evil woman who has her designs on Nico and will do anything to make Kat look bad. She also finds out that even though Nico and his family have this wonderful life, just like any family they have their own problems. Kat has grown to care deeply for these people and she tries to help.
This is one of those books that you’re sitting there reading and realize you are smiling. Kat is so close to reaching the goals she has worked towards for so long yet she finds herself thrust into this fairy tale. The more time she spends with Nico, the more she falls for him and allows her walls to come down. Sariah Wilson has written a beautiful story that is both realistic but still touches that little part of all of us that dreams of being a princess. I completely enjoyed this book and look forward to getting Lemon and Dante’s story.

I LOVED this rags to riches/Cinderella story!! It was sweet, funny, romantic and with enough seriousness to pull my angst meter. When Kat decides to accompany her best friend on a skiing trip in Monterra--a fictional country where Italian is the spoken language--she gets much more than she bargained for, including a sexy prince who won't take no for an answer.
I really liked Kat, she was a little insecure personally, but she was also giving, kind and generous. She may have come across as standoffish with Prince Alex, but she had her reasons. Alex was incredible...amazing...wonderful. I can go on and on about this man. The things he did and said to Kat, especially after finding out some personal things responsible for her insecurities? wow! He was perfect.
But this wasn't all hearts and flowers. Kat had gone through some traumatic stuff as a kid, so this was as much about her discovering how to get over her issues as letting Alex in and possibly giving love a chance. It was frustrating watching both her and Alex skirt admitting their feelings for each other. They could have saved a lot of heartache had one of them fessed up. But despite that, there was no weird drama or useless filler. This was a beautiful story about two people falling in love with each other and taking a risk. I teared up a few times and my heart broke a few times as well. I should mention this was relatively clean, some physical stuff yes, but no sex. And you know what? I barely noticed, it was just really good!
The ending was perfect, just perfect! The epilogue was cute and completed this couples journey in the best of ways. This book took me by surprise, with its great secondary cast including Kat's bestie, Lemon. I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did, but it was lovely! I do have a thing for royal romance so I can't say I was overly shocked about how great it was. Anyways, highly recommended for those who love Royal romance as well.

Kat grew up with druggie parents and had a hard childhood. She doesn’t have a lot of money but she has a rich BFF! This rich BFF named Lemon takes Kat on holiday to a country called Monterra in Europe to go skiing. Kat has only been skiing once, and goes out by herself, skis down the wrong hill and goes out of control. The hero, Prince Nico who met Kat the night before at the lodge, sees Kat going out of control and tries to save her. Kat ends up falling and knocks herself unconscious. Three days later, Kat wakes up and is in the home/castle of Nico.
Let me stop there a minute. Kat apparently got air-lifted to a hospital, where tests were run, she is unconscious for three straight days, yet allowed to leave the hospital while knocked out to go to the Prince’s castle??? Did anyone care about a head injury once she wakes up??? Did anyone care that apparently she held her pee-pee in for three days? I don’t want to read about catheters and pee-pee drama but it also has to be realistic. When Kat wakes up, within minutes Lemon is telling her how she has to pretend to be Nico’s girlfriend so that they can write a blog about dating a royal or something and then Kat hops out of bed to shower. HUH??
Anyway, I continue. Kat decides to let Nico court her, so she can write blog articles and it will help his country’s tourism. There is some other forced conflict but it all becomes a little boring. I honestly enjoyed Kat’s voice for the most part. At times she is a fun heroine – but it’s alllll about her. We really don’t get to know Nico. We meet his family and his friends and get to see his 800-room castle, but he is not memorable. He isn’t swoony. He is too perfect. I get he is a prince and it’s a take on a fairy tale – but who wants to be in a relationship with an achingly sweet man who is so perfect you never get a rise out of him? Not me.
And let me also say – there is only kissing in this book. I don’t think poor Nico even gets to second base. Kat wants to wait until marriage for that, which is fine. But for reasons stated above, I needed more romance. Kat also doesn’t’ curse, but says “frak” sixteen times in this book and I wanted her to …frakking stop.
Royal Date didn’t sweep me off my feet.

Loved!
This is one of those books I can read over and over again. I was in a bit of a reading funk, so I decided to read this knowing its one I always enjoy and knowing it will help pull me out of my funk, and it worked!
Kat was such a likable character. She had a rough childhood, but she made sure not to follow in her parents footsteps. She is determined to have a better life and to make smart choices. I really respected her for that. Nico was great as well, I love how he "got" Kat. They have a great connection and it was fun to watch their relationship grow. I liked how these two characters are from totally different backgrounds and upbringings, just fit together. They seemed like a realistic couple that would truly have their happily ever after.
This has a fun Cinderella type feel to it, a great setting, great characters and swoony romance! Very enjoyable read.

So having read the last two in the series, I thought I'd try this one out to see how it all began. Answer: poorly. Really, book two is looking like something of a fluke (if a rather mild one). I could have put up with Kat being an idiot if she had at least been a consistent one. But I lost all interest in the book when
So yeah, at that point, I lost any interest in Kat. Nico was beyond engaging, of course, but that actually makes it worse because he could do so much better than the morally bankrupt limp noodle he's latched onto for no apparent reason.
edit to add: Oh, and it truly bugged me that Kat had made up some stupid moral code out of whole cloth that just happened to perfectly mirror the Mormon ideal. Without actually being Mormon, I mean. One suspects because the author is Mormon. And just to remind you, if you don't remember or don't know me, I am a faithful (well, faithfully trying) Mormon and live that code myself. I'm sorry, but refusing coffee because you don't want to "mess with your body chemistry" just makes you sound stupid. You might as well say you don't eat cabbage because it alters your spleen humors. Oh! And someone coming out of a three-day coma who refuses all pain killers (see body chemistry stupidity above) is going to be moaning in bed with the lights out and refusing to see anybody and not voluntarily entering things like airplanes or nightclubs or showers. And to add insult to stupidity this is all supposedly because of some mysterious past deeply, emotionally painful event that we still have no insight into despite being in her internal perspective for, uh, did I make it halfway? Yeah, way, way too long at any rate. That just felt like being coy for the sake of drama.

This is the first work I have had the pleasure of reading by Sariah Wilson, and I was not disappointed!
I knew going into this story that it was YA and it was very modern day fairy tale'esque...very "Cinderella-ish." While this story has a charming prince and a "nobody girl," I was pleasantly surprised at how the Royal Date was its own brand of love story!
This book introduces Kat McTaggert. Just a regular college girl with a life plan. She has worked hard life to rise above the poor and treacherous living conditions of her childhood. She has found a miracle in her roomie/BFF Lemon and her generous lifestyle. Having escaped to a foreign country for the holidays puts her in direct contact with a very handsome and charming man. While he is beautiful, Kat can only look as who could possibly be interested in her? Seems as if fate has other plans as a skiing mishap knocks Kat off her game and into the world of royalty. Enter, Prince Dominick, Nico, and his amazing fun family!
This author developed a slow, casual friendship of sorts with Kat and Nico. While there was definite attraction, there was also an ease to their conversations and real genuine feel to each of them. Kat was guarded, and struggled with the feelings she developed for Nico. Her attempts to stay focused on the temporary were made difficult by a truly swoon-worthy prince! Nico was gentle, patient, and so romantic!
So along with scheming royal brats, creepy paparrazi, and of course, dress up balls, is also a sweet love story of an American girl who stole the beautiful heart of an Italian prince as well as his entire family! Everyone can see the intelligence and the beauty that is Kat...if only she could get her heart and her head on the same page. P nNow wouldn't that make an easier tale!!!

4 His Royal Stars
Royal Date is a standalone and isn’t part of a series, yet, but the next book will be about the brother’s Hero. This is a Young Adult book.
This was a RANDOM read. I picked it up because of the cute storyline and the cute cover. I was really surprised on how much I enjoyed it. If you are in the mood for something fairytale, adorable and easy, then this is for you.
Kat is your typical college student. She’s on vacation with her best friend and she *gasp* gets into a skiing accident. Well, her savior is PRINCE Nico. Yeah, I completely love this storyline. I love a Royal Hero, don’t you? Nico is everything you want in a fairytale read. He’s dominating, straight-forward and completely sweet!
Nico is taken with Kat and he can’t help himself, but bring her back to the palace while she recovers from her injuries. He learns she is a writer and offers her a job. Nico will be part of a dating show, I know, another cute plot twist and he wants some positive publicity for his country to get more tourist, so he asks Kat to write positive articles for him. She has to “date” him to get the insights of his royal highness.
Oh this book is filled with cuteness!
Kat needs the money and accepts the job. In the process she doesn’t realize how much she learns and how much she likes Nico. I completely fell in love with the Kat and Nico dynamic. It couldn’t be more cute. I know I say it a lot, but it’s a really light innocent read. So Nico and Kat grow closer together, but not everyone likes Nico getting closer to Kat. Kat has to deal with press, jealous girls and Nico’s crazy family.
I loved Nico’s family. It added nice tension and something extra to the storyline. This book does have some mild angst when Kat faces some troubles towards the middle part, it did frustrate me a bit, BUT it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and I powered through it.
I’m so bum the next book isn’t out yet. Yes, I am that greedy. I can’t wait for Dante and Lemon’s story, which will be publishing January 2016! If you want something light, fresh and with a royal twist, try this one!

I had the day off work and wanted to read a fluffy, romantic book. This was exactly what I was hoping for. I loved this book. This is a story that's been told thousands of times- a Cinderella story. You would think it would get old. But, if the story is told well, then it just never gets old. The author did a fantastic job of pulling me in and making me love the characters. I really enjoyed the snark, the sass, the sarcasm. I can't help myself. I thought it was funny. I did not want to put this book down. I wanted to keep reading because I was invested. I love me some HEA.
I would say this book is not meant for young teenage readers. It's a NA kind of book, but clean. There is a lot of kissing (making out) and some talk about sex and saving sex for marriage.
I cannot wait for the next book!!

Eh. If you've watched a Hallmark movie with a royal family you basically know the gist of Royal Date. Poor heroine on holiday catches a Prince's eye and then winds up hurt and taken under his wing for the holidays. He's smitten, she resists, the temptation of betraying him is presented, she breaks up with him yada yada.
The Characters & Such: Nico is a lovely hero-- upstanding, responsible, loving, kind. He's all things good and sexy and totally swoon-worthy. Kat was a struggle-- mercurial, immature and irrational. I wasn't a fan of how childish and ungrateful she could be. I did like the setting of the royal family's private quarters and seeing them during the holidays. The family moments and their professional commitments. Its a nice family and the holidays were lovely.
All in all, though, Royal Date was mostly a miss for me. There's nothing all that original or remarkable about it-- including the writing-- but it wasn't the worst I've read either.

I read this book in one sitting. I could not put it down! This is the second book that I have read of Sariah Wilson and I loved them both. She has a wonderful writing style that drew me in and didn't let me go. She is an author that I will watch for in the future.
Kat is with her friend on vacation at a ski resort when she meets and attractive man she shows no interest in, even though she finds him very attractive. The next time she meets him she is careening down the mountain out of control and he saves her. Not only is he attractive, but he is now her rescuer.
Turns out he is a prince. She recovers in his palace! (Most girls childhood fantasy)

Oh my goodness. I LOVED this book!!! Seriously, I just finished it and I wanted to go right back to the beginning and start all over. It was romantic perfection!!! Romance, tension, humor, swooning...I could hardly get enough.
I loved the characters. Kat was sarcastic, strong and sweet. Nico? Just all around perfect. Gorgeous, thoughtful, caring, romantic, strong, swoon-worthy. They were an adorable couple!

Also, major props to Nico for helping her keep the promise she made to herself. That showed a tremendous amount of character in him. And it had to make their wedding night that much sweeter!!
I would SO love to see this one become a movie! If you're a fan of sweet Young Adult romances, do yourself a favor: stop reading whatever you're reading and go get this book!!

3.5 stars. A sweet, romantic fairy tale.
After thoroughly enjoying "The Roommaid" and "The Seat Filler", I'm making my way through the rest of Sariah Wilsons books. Wilson writes G/PG rated romances that are fluffy, funny (in a snarky way... my favorite!), and romantic. There's a basic formula but I like formula books if they're done well. The heroes are usually unicorns (rich, famous, hunky, but honorable, thoughtful, and monogamous) and the heroines have issues about dating, kissing, or men, and usually low self-esteem.
Very enjoyable and I’m looking forward to reading Book 2.

Contemporary Cinderella Story

I really ended up loving this book.
"Insert small rant"
WHY DIDN'T SHE JUST TELL HIM? Okay, now that I got that out of the way. Without giving spoilers...there was a particular incident involving bribery and dishonesty that DROVE ME CRAZY through half of this story. I honestly felt like I couldn't enjoy it until the "matter" was settled. Here I was reading about this adorable courtship...and all I could think about was, "He's going to find out...and it's going to ruin everything." I was fuming at Kat (our heroine)...and I couldn't understand why she wasn't just coming forward to Nico (the Prince). It was so distracting from the "cuteness" of the story for me personally. After that was taken care of, and taken care of beautifully by the way, I fell in love with the book. I know, I know, it was a large part of the plot...and couldn't have been left out. (I guess. ;)lol, but I can't wait to read it again without the stress that particular drama caused me. ;) lol.
I really enjoyed the characters in Royal Date, they were all so vivid and real to me. I had the hardest time putting it down and loved the little twists and turns the author threw in. I adored Nico, his family and his country. They were enchanting. Kat and her best friend Lemon were endearing as well. I loved that even though they were SO different and from such different backgrounds they were still so close and such loyal friends. I loved that Kat didn't let her past circumstances completely define her and that she was determined to be good and do good with her life. There was some definite "worldly" phrases and conversations thrown in throughout the book including innuendo, talk of drinking, and doing drugs. (Not participated in by the hero and heroine.) There were several instances talking about the main character having high standards such as not drinking and morality. (Including being a virgin.)....and talking as if it was a complete foreign thing for a single 24 year old woman. Treating her as a complete oddity. Christian values. What a sad thing for the world to think odd. It makes me heart sick.
On a different note, Kat and Nico's relationship was so "swoon worthy". Their courtship adorable. I love that they really "understood" each other...and I could see them making each other better. I can't wait to read book 2!
I would still categorize Royal Date as a clean romance, but I would definitely not recommend it for teens. The main character does use the word "frak" constantly...which annoyed me for some reason but it is definitely far far better than using foul language...and I appreciated that the book was clear of swearing. There was also several kissing scenes and as mentioned above, some innuendo.

I enjoyed every minute from the skiing accident to the winter carnival in Monterra. Every girl loves a good fairytale and a Prince Charming! Nico. OHMYGOODLORD! Swooniest guy ever! Probably my favorite Italian and that's saying something considering I've read the Waterfall trilogy and Marcello is AMAZING!
Kat was a great heroine! She deserved a Happily Ever After. I loved her voice it was HIGH-LARIOUS! She had so many great quotes! I loved when she discovered pain au chocolat AKA chocolate croissant.

When Kat MacTaggart goes on a holiday skiing trip with her roommate and best friend, Lemon Beauchamp, she never imagines that she'll end up meeting and falling for a real life prince, but that's exactly what happens when Kat has a skiing mishap and is rescued by Prince Nico of Monterra. Not only does he rescue her, but when she wakes up after her accident she finds that she's not in her hotel room--she and Lemon are staying at the royal palace while she recuperates!!
It's not smooth sailing for Kat and Nico, who's smitten with her because she's different than most of the women he has to socialize with in his position as the Crown Prince. Lemon has a PR plan to help bring more attention and tourists to Monterra which includes Kat "pretend dating" Nico and writing about it. Kat doesn't want to date anyone, she's got a life plan and it doesn't seem to include marriage.
I loved how this large royal family--Queen, King, Nico, his twin brothers and 3 younger sisters--all make Kat feel welcome. She'd had quite the rough upbringing with a dad who'd spent time in prison before he died, and a mom who was addicted to crystal meth. Kat left home about age 14 and got through school, college and now graduate school on her own, so nothing was going to derail her plan of getting her masters degree and becoming a social worker so she could help kids.
I admired how Kat had taken control of her life at such a young age and that she had a plan, but sometimes I felt she was a little too set on "her plan". I felt that Nico didn't want to derail her life plan, just adjust it a bit. I liked that Lemon was such a great friend to her, and pointed out that if Kat and Nico got together she would be able to help a lot more children.
I know this book is pure fantasy, but I loved this rags to riches story and hated when I got to the end, although I loved the ending. One of the reasons I read fiction is to escape to another place and Monterra seems like a great place to escape to so I've added the other books in the Royals of Monterra series to my "want to read" list.

Loved it so much!!! I just can't even review it with out saying the word "love" about everything.
Loved the beginning! Loved how they met and met right away.

Awwwww. This book was just awesome and cute amazing. Kat was just ok of a character for me. Nico.....awww swoon. He was just amazing!!! I really enjoyed this book. It's been a long time since a book has kept me up until 1am reading.

DNF. I really wanted to like this book, but it didn’t really draw me in and catch my attention, even by chapter 11. What’s worse is that Kat makes a REALLY stupid decision that felt completely unecessary to me. And the thing is, I hate it when characters make irrational decisions, and I have to stop reading if there’s no thinking happening at all in the book, since it means a lot of drama is going to be involved.

I know that I may get stoned for this, but Kat and I just didn't get along at the beginning of this book. It took me a little bit to get over some of her quirks that were driving me crazy... who says 'yeah' and purposely wears jeans to a dinner you know you will be out of place at? She just seemed a little immature for her age and level of education. She did grow on me as the book unfolded and Nico swept in and saved the story for me, loved him from the beginning!

Royal DateSo, gotta tell you. NOT a romance novel fan in the least. Couldn't care less about Prince's and Princess's. Cinderella types? Eh. No, I like my meat and potatoes. So I read this because it's a Kindle World phenom. And you know what? I agree.
Sariah Wilson is a class A writer. The prose help you sail through the book. It is witty and I love how she plays off the main character, an American who is not the prettiest and not looking for love, because she thinks no one is really into her, type of gal. Throw in a little Italian lingo and Prince who is the epitome of a man who loves this woman and you have a wonderful chemistry that the author plays off of throughout the book. The side characters are wonderful too. There is clear voice in each of them. The dialogue is charming and the story elegant. I can't see how a fan of this genre would not love this book.
Now that doesn't mean I will convert to romance novels, I mean I have to maintain my machismo! lol But I will say excellent job, Mrs. Wilson! You won me over. Excellent book!

Oh my heavens...I literally loved every minute of this book. I couldn't put it down. Threw caution and laundry to the side to finish it. So romantic, and dreamy, and the phone/pic thing did not end how I thought it would and made me love the book even more. Loved how Kat stuck to her guns, and then Nico did too. And the scene when Nico ...swoon!
Had some awesome analogies and one liners that made me smile and laugh. One of my favorite's:
"And whatever idiot said time heals all wounds should be tied up to a railroad track and run over by a train repeatedly. Then we'd see how well time would heal those wounds."
Sigh....sigh.
Would recommend to everyone that loves romance. Anyone want to join me in a "More, More, We Want More!" riot?

3.5 stars for this modern day fairy tale romance. Kat has lived a hard life--like ran away from home at 14 because her home life was AWFUL, hard life. She heads to Europe as a guest of a friend for Christmas. European men love to flirt with her, but dating is not in her plan. While skiing, she has and accident and literally falls into the arms of Nico-flirt extraordinaire and crown prince. Kat is not about to change her plans, but the prince is not used to being told no!
A fun and easy read. The romance is sweet and the setting is well done. I love "dessert books" that I read just for fun. This is definitely one. A storybook romance set in modern times--but will love really conquer all?

This Kindle Scout winning book is a wonderful escape into a lovely fairy tale for grown-ups! There is a reason why so many children love the classic fairy tales...they are a fun way to whisk our minds away from everyday life. This book provides exactly that kind of "Calgon, take me away" experience. I found myself looking forward to settling down at the end of a long day for a few chapters of 'dreams really do come true' with Kat. The author has interwoven just enough detail to keep the story believable, but the descriptions don't bog down its quick pace. Prince Nico is completely lovable and (dare I say) charming. Can't wait to read Lemon's story!

This was just a fun book. It was a little forced with all the sad back story but I didn't even care. There are some elements in this book I am normally irritated with like insta-love, everything wrapping up a little to perfectly and someone so damaged turning around and being ok. With this book it all worked. I was hooked from the first pages and couldn't put it down. It was seriously swoony:} Great chemistry is created between these two and I am hoping it goes on in the series. This was just a yummy fun read you just don't take too seriously. Clean, with some make out heat that does not go into detail.
