Chasing the shadow…

Interestingly enough, there’s nothing really outrageous in this story, which I truly appreciate. Ok, there’s the one thing about rescuing the twins but the rest of the story was just lovely.

My only real question is what actually happened to the FMC after the orphanage. There’s no real explanation about her life and how she got the scars…

Otherwise I did enjoy how the two main characters grew to love each other, because the journey was so nice. And I loved the twins!

KU and I did enjoy this one a lot.

Very good but a little over the top

But yet not. It was an entertaining story with children again and of course they were awesome, and then we have a heroine who is truly a ninja. She has made it her life's mission to learn that role. She had a particular set of skills you could say. The little girls, twins of course, were falling off a balcony but the heroine was there hanging upside down, grabbed them both and flipped over the railing and saved them. Like in 4.2 seconds. Theron, the hero, saw her and fell instantly in love/ lust/amazement and pursued her. It was very cute. No ow drama, semi closed door sex scenes, and a great chat of characters. They had a slow courtship and but a happily ever after. Low key but enjoyable. The heroine had super woman vibes throughout.

Notes for me

Theron - billionaire CEO

Soren - works at company. Purposely stays under radar.

Theron’s twin nieces are visiting company. In cafeteria a huge crowd of women crowd twins to get Theron’s attention. They surge and twins dangle off balcony.

Soren saves them using a ninja move then disappears.

Theron uses all of his resources to track her down. However cameras are scrubbed.

Soren and her chosen brother have worked hard to stay in the shadows. Theron’s world is a bright spotlight.

Safety

Only OW are employees who act ridiculous to get Theron’s attention.

Fun story

From a purely entertainment perspective, this story was fun to read. It had a plot that was enticing - a FMC who is both smart and possesses fantastic fighting skills, saves the lives of two little girls, and leaves the MMC in complete shock and awe.

The MMC ends up not being what she expected, same with the family. It’s got some spice in it, and, of course has an HEA.

But there were some red flags throughout that made me question the human nature of this story (this is the second book by this particular author that I’ve read).

There’s constant reference to growing up in an orphanage and how it shaped the FMC and her brother into being ghosts and learning to fade into the shadows. Not really sure how that type of upbringing was the sole reason behind her “ninja” skills and his computer skills. So, big plot hole there.

Then there’s the use of descriptive language. This isn’t a bad thing in a story, until you start to notice particularly repetitive patterns in how it’s used and certain phrases that get used over and over. Don’t know if that’s just a result of lack of editing, or something else.

Again, it was a fun story to read, but with those red flags I couldn’t bring myself to mark all five stars.
