Danica Maris is an assistant astronomer on Space Station Sanctuary Six until she is mysteriously chosen to wield the cosmic energy known as the Star Power. The light of the Star Powered Sentinels has returned, but she is shining alone.
An ancient enemy has emerged from the ruins of the old galactic empire to extinguish the Star Power and enslave the Millennium Federation. Now, the last Start Powered Sentinel must stand against the approaching darkness and be a light in the void.
Michael Terracciano loves comic books, superheroes, outer space, and telling stories. His friends call him "Mookie." He spent the last ten years as the author and artist of the fantasy webcomic, "Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire." He enjoys spending time with his wife and their three cats. His favorite planet is Jupiter because it's awesome.
Michael Terracciano is now working on the webcomic Star Power.
I came across this first volume in the Star Power comic series while at the 2018 Rhode Island Comic Con. I met the author and interviewed the author, Michael Terracciano, for an article I was doing about the convention and picked up volume 1.
The story focuses on Danica Maris, an assistant astronomer on the far flung Space Station Sanctuary Six. Stuck in what appears to be a thankless job, she soon finds her life changed on universal level when she is granted the Star Power and becomes what is called a Sentinel.
But while she seems pretty at ease with her new found role (even with what little she knows about the changes that have been wrought), she soon learns that the power comes with a target on her back. It seems there's an ancient enemy out to stop the return of the Sentinels and Danica is next on the list! How will Danica react to suddenly being the "protector of the universe"? And who else might be out to get her?
I have to say that I was pretty darn impressed with "Star Power and the 9th Wormhole" in all respects. The story grabs you from the start and is filled with some really noteworthy characters. I can't wait to delve more into the individuals that make up the main cast of this series!
And I can't say enough about Garth Graham's artwork. I don't pretend to be any kind of art expert, but I know when I see something I like and believe me when I say that Graham's work on this series is amazing!
I know that I'm a latecomer to the series (which is first published as a webcomic before being collected into trade format) given that there are four volumes out already. But I'm here now and now the only problem is getting my hands on the next installment of Star Power!
This is some great comic storytelling, period. Or should I say 'Nuff Said?
This was a story that picked me up immediately and it only got better. I love the depth of all of the characters and how each of the races has a full thought-out background. Danica Maris is an unlikely hero who manages to rise to the occasion and be endearing at the same time.
The concept of the star powered sentinel also appeals to me having a love from anything to do with space. It’s an interesting twist to hear how things the history/future of the universe came to be. I like the mini background blurbs interspersed in the story. I’d definitely recommend this series!
Warning: Contains repeated violence
Who should read it? Graphic novel fans looking for something with a superhero flair as a standalone story.
A nice, well-illustrated story with good, likeable characters and an interesting arc. The art is great but a bit inconsistent. The story avoids being overly cheesy as well, in a place where it could easily be cheesy. 4.5 stars.
Another webcomic I discovered through a Story Bundle offering. I'm getting very fond of webcomics! This one is very well-drawn, with an interesting story universe.
Okay, I'll confess: I gave this 4 stars when, in my heart, I only gave it 3 stars. The reason: I'm just not a graphic novel reader. They don't grab and engross me the way a text novel does. I recognize that may be a failing on my part. But I suspect that if you are a graphic novel reader, you may really like this. So I wanted to give it a rating that would encourage you to pick it up and read it.
I would recommend the story of Danica Maris, awkward astronomer and bad-ass space hero, to any fans of Green Lantern, Guardians of the Galaxy or good sci-fi. Safe for all ages, in case anyone was wondering.
