Kaylee Brown has kept her past hidden. Nobody needs to know what a fool she was, and how far she’d go to keep her secret. It’s her business. But after a night out with her colleagues, the past she’s tried so hard to forget comes back to haunt her. Will the lie she tells be enough to satisfy Connor Summer, the youngest of the Summer brothers? Who is now one of her bosses, and a man she’s secretly crushed on since she started working for the company. Or will the lives of Kaylee and her five-year-old son, Oliver, change dramatically? Connor Summer is no fool; he’s heard enough lies to write a book. So when the woman he’s increasingly becoming fond of tries to cover up her reactions to a situation, he sees right through it and is soon on the case to uncover the truth. However, that’s not all he wants. Kaylee is getting under his skin. It’s getting harder to ignore the feelings she evokes in him, but he knows he must gain her trust and prove he’s the man who will go to any lengths for her and Oliver.
You can read Trusting Him, the fourth book in The Summer Knights Series, as part of the series or as a standalone novel.
Forward we go, the next of author Tracey Gerrard’s not-quite-seven-brides for not-quite-seven-brothers presented to us as Kaylee Brown, already working within the beating heart of the Summer Knight Security empire—and with her own heart already beating for Connor, the youngest of the brothers who run this family business. Given that his eyes have already looked with favour on this particular employee—even when she’s suffering with a heavy cold and looking far from her best—things look fair set for a swift ride into the sunset for the pair.
True love, however, as appears to be usual for this brotherhood and the women they pick, isn’t about to run smoothly for Kaylee and Connor. It’s not that she’s a lone parent, because it’s obvious that she’s a good mother to five-year-old Oliver, more the signs that she’s struggling to make ends meet, even on the decent salary paid by the Summer brothers. Connor’s no child; he’s almost thirty, experienced in his profession and clued-in to the signs that there’s more going on with the young woman who’s taken his attention. He’d like to know exactly what, which means gaining her trust enough for her to open up to him and enable their relationship to deepen.
Kaylee’s remarkably secretive on the subject of her past, however, and no wonder. She’s embarrassed at how she let herself be deceived, how she let herself get into the mess from which she’s slowly been extricating herself and her son for the last few years. It’s one fatal evening, when she’s recovered her health and gone out with the Summer family, that she encounters the man who put her into this mess—and being no shrinking violet, Kaylee doesn’t pass up the chance to let him know exactly what she thinks of him. Her anger towards him—both verbal and physical—doesn’t go unnoticed by Connor, who’s gone to check up on her when she’s taken too long visiting the bathroom.
Removed from danger by Connor, questioned by him and refusing to answer, Kaylee guards her secret, although she does allow their relationship to move from the office into her personal life, taking young Oliver for days out with Connor, who’s happy with this turn of events. He’s not letting up on his own investigation into what she’s not telling him, however, but he’s not getting far—and then the mystery man turns up outside Kaylee’s flat one night, meaning she needs to spill her secrets fast, in the interests of safety and security for herself and Oliver.
Security, of course, is what the Summer brothers do for a living; and soon the family is on the case with a vengeance, finding a solution to the problem and hopefully a future together for Kaylee and Connor. Yet another 5* romance from author Tracey Gerrard.
The story starts with Kaylee, a single mom with a young son, a huge debt that isn't hers and a past she doesn't talk about, not even to the ex-cop and Summer Knight brother, Connor, for whom she works.
Connor has developed feelings for her that go way past protective, more so when he has to keep her from attacking what seems to be a complete stranger on a rare night out. It's worse when she lies to him about why she attacked the man, and it makes him all the more determined, just like his brothers, to ferret out the truth. He finds it when the mystery man from Kaylee's past shows up to stalk her, and she confesses the stalker isn't just an ex-lover, but a con man who not only ghosted her, but left her with a child on the way and a debt that wasn't hers.
Connor moves the two of them in with him to keep her safe, and the Knight Brothers and their team do what they do best, setting a trap for the con man that will have him repaying his debt to Kaylee with money that will go "through twelve time zones, pick up a suntan and can speak six different languages" before it comes to her. (Gotta love the light-fingered team of allies who help with this.) What they don't realize is that the Summer Knights' women have a plan of their own to catch a thief, one that converges with theirs and makes for another wild Summer Knights tale. I love these books and their happily ever after endings, and I think you will too.
I loved this book—the 4th in the series—and I was hooked right from the start when we learn about Kaylee’s money problems. The plot thickened when she assaulted a stranger in a nightclub and it seems her past had caught up with her. Can Connor and his brothers help her? And will this strengthen or destroy their budding relationship? Oh, and the ladies going full on ‘Charlie’s Angels’ was a hoot. Highly recommended.
Kaylee Brown is a single mother with a five-year-old son named Oliver, and despite her well-paid job, she struggles each month to make ends meet. She’s had a crush on Connor Summer for some time, but as one of her bosses, she never expected anything to come of it. However, when Connor starts to take an interest in her and develops feelings for her, he is puzzled by why she lives in such a small flat and is always short of money. Connor soon realises that Kaylee has a hidden past, but that to become close to her, he will need to win her trust. This book is the fourth in the series and is written in a similar style to the others. I have enjoyed all the books I have read by this author, and this one is no exception. An engaging story which could easily be read as a standalone novel, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I enjoyed the 4th installment of the Summer Knights series. It's Connors turn to fall in love, and the woman he has his eye on has an unfortunate history. The Summer family and their better halves all rally together to help Kaylee and her son Oliver, and as with the other books in this series, it was a page turner. I have enjoyed this series, and what i like most is the fact that the women are not damsels, although they have come from unlucky or unfortunate situations, the issues they have suffered are not unbelievable or far fetched, and they are strong women. Another great read from Tracey Gerrard and a series i'd recommend if you enjoy clean romance with strong female characters and loveable heros.
This series narrates how each of the five Summer brothers found love, rescuing the object of their affections from dire circumstances, hence the series title, ‘Summer Knights.’ In this fourth book, it is Connor’s turn to take centre stage, and the author weaves an entertaining tale about his deepening feelings for their office administrator, Kaylee, and how, with the help of the Summer Knights security team, he extricates her from a threatening situation involving a dastardly ex-boyfriend. The book is smoothly written, making it a quick read. I enjoyed the interaction between Kaylee and the previously ‘rescued’ partners of Connor’s brothers (see books 1-3 for their stories), and look forward to discovering how fifth brother, Henry, keeps up the family tradition.
Like Hanging Out with Best Friends Trusting Him includes a richly defined cast of characters you’d like to spend weekends with. Charming, engaging, and distinctive. Kaylee is especially endearing. I wanted to protect her as I would my own daughter. This is a romance that goes deep. You fall in love with Kaylee and Connor as they fall in love with each other. A nail-biting, page-turning plot ties it all together. I’m in for the whole series. Don’t miss this heartwarming romance!
I couldn't put this book down, and sat up until 2.30 in the morning to finish it. Superb storytelling. Wonderful characters. And a beautiful love story. Highest recommendations.
