FOUR MATTHEWS STARS.
"who is Rafe Matthews?"
Whatever you may thing about this book; whether you love or loathe it, the one thing you can not take away from it, is the sheer talent of Tessa Teevan. Her writing is precise, flawless and I have to admit at times I was blown away in this second instalment of the clandestine affair trilogy. I've always been a big fan of this author, and over the last few years of falling in love with her books she has quickly become one of my favourites. If I'm being honest (and I always try to be) I've had a bit of a love/hate relationship with this series. I've had to wrap my head around one of my favourite authors deviating from her normal style but once I gave myself a talking to and allowed myself to enjoy the ride I've found myself amazed at the talent and bravery of Tessa stepping out and trying something new. If you love your books to be sultry, well put together and with an added dose of mystery then this will be the perfect series for you to next sink your teeth into and as for me I'm happy for Tessa to continue convincing me that this is a trilogy worth falling in love with.
What's it all about?
If you have not read book one in this trilogy then you need to stop right here and go and one click that bad boy. If you already have devoured 'Instigation' then you are more than welcome to read on. After finishing off on a rather precarious situation book two starts exactly where book one left off. We find ourselves continuing on with the story of Gabriella Latham and her journey at discovering secrets of the past. This heroine is struggling to know who to trust but is unable to resist the charms of the one man that has unexpectedly claimed her heart. With twists and turns and more dark secrets unravelling at every turn Tessa Teevan takes her readers on a quest of love, mystery and dangerous affairs. And to top it all off this author may just end up answering the question on every readers lips; who is Rafe Matthews?
What did I love?
I've already waxed lyrical about how I have enjoyed Teevan's writing style in this novel but it won't hurt to say again how solid I thought it was. As the book developed so did this author's ability to drop those sentences that had me highlighting my kindle over and over again. Over everything that I enjoyed about this book surprisingly its the mystery element of the story telling that had me most hooked. Every chapter comes with a new surprise and I'm enjoying every moment of being kept on the edge. Teevan also supplies more than enough steam in this book, in fact I was go as far as to say that this book gives her readers the steamiest scenes to date from any of her novels. But for those who enjoy a good balance of story combined with erotica you'll be well pleased because there is more than enough drama and plot to go alongside the romance and adult material (wink). I'm intrigued as to where this series will lead the characters and I'm excited to read more, which is always a good sign. As for now I'll be waiting for book three and more from an author who consistently delivers the goods.
Why not five?
Going back to book one in this series it's no secret that I struggled to connect with the relationship side of the story telling, I didn't quite feel like I had a handle on how I felt about the characters and in turn this ruined some of the story telling for me. Moving onto book two I still don't feel like I have a real fondness for the hero or heroine. The plot has me hooked but I'm failing to feel that connection with the characters, romance or love that I usually do with this author. However, book two had me flipping pages in anticipation wanting to read and know more and more so I'm hoping that by book three I'll be more than convinced to be handing out a five star.
Final thoughts ...
Tessa Teevan has achieved something that quite frankly rarely happens when I invest in reading a trilogy and that my fellow readers is; she's left me wanting more. The end of this book was wickedly fantastic. My adrenalin was pumping, I was left finally feeling more of a connection to the story telling and I have to say I'm excited to find out what else Teevan has in store for this series. if you haven't yet started this trilogy what are you waiting for? Go go go ... Release day is in the not distant future. Enjoy ... Kisses.

Escalation is book 2 in Tessa Teevan's Clandestine Affairs Series. It picks up directly at the point of a breath-holding cliffhanger. This book is a true "escalation" of the story. Teevan brings more mystery to the life of Gabriella Lantham...more suspense to Adrian Morningstar's actions...more emotional heat to Rafe Matthews's mission.
To go into detail would truly ruin the ride for any reader. To focus on the who and the what would be impossible at this point. While pieces of a complex puzzle fall into play, the big picture still remains unseen. The only certainty is the fast and intense relationship of Brie and Rafe...
Or is it?
Still so much remains untold. Passion and pleasure rule this read as Brie and Rafe struggle to come to grips with her past as well as her threatened future. The author delivered more intensity and emotions as the search for answers ignited a deep need for one another. In this dangerous setting Brie has finally realized a love worth fighting for and Rafe has vowed to keep her at all costs.
But who is the actual danger? Can passion and love be real/true when nothing is as it seems? Oh, Tessa Teevan...you have warped my mind again! Nothing better than a good, and hot, mindf***! As the mystery and the story had me thinking and constantly drawing conclusions...I stayed on the edge...not trusting. Just when I thought I could breath and take this journey with Rafe and Brie...just when I was all in...BAM...you have left me stunned...AGAIN!

After that mother of all cliffhangers (which rocked my socks) at the end of 'Instigation'-Book #1 in the Clandestine Affairs series, I had a billion questions!!!! These were ranging from WHAT IN THE EVER LOVING HELL JUST HAPPENED? to WHO IN THE ACTUAL JESUS CHRIST IS RAFE?
Tessa Teevan has brought a continuation to the table and this book continues where Book 1 finished, THANK GOODNESS!!!!
This book holds so much mystery, so much more intensity and a whole puzzle for you to attempt at solving, which I can assure you right now DO NOT FOR ONE SECOND THINK YOU ARE A DETECTIVE!!!! Trust me, that just does not work! I had so many ideas and conclusions buzzing around my head but Tessa threw in another dynamite and BOOM!!!!! I once again was left like "WHAT THE WHAT????" This book, it just will not make you feel relaxed, it absolutely does not contain unicorns and rainbows, but it will bring you the energy you want from a real suspenseful, hot and BLOODY BRILLIANT book!!!!!
Tessa is one of my go-to authors, and what I love about this series is just how different it is from her usual style. I love that she has challenged herself, yet the writing style which is so unique to Tessa shines through as you dive into this continuation.
Once again after finishing this book, you find yourself asking more questions. I read the book three times, just to ensure I didn't miss a single thing and NOPE!!!! I STILL NEED ANSWERS! So much still remains hidden, untold and secretive, if I thought it would help at all, I'd beat the living hell out of my kindle!
I loved that we got to experience a further connection between Brie and Rafe, I loved the twists, the secrets, the struggles and SWEET LORD HAVE MERCY.....THE STEAM!!! Tessa can write amazing heated scenes and this book, well it sure as hell signed sealed and delivered!
I'm not telling you what happens, this book deserves to be experienced!!!!!! But what you need to know: if you haven't read book one, DO IT NOW!!!!! If you read book one and loved it as much as I did, READ THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW! If you read book one and were undecided on your feelings of the book, THEN YOU STILL NEED TO READ THIS CONTINUATION RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!

Okay, so after Instigation, the first book in the series, we are left with a cliffhanger that literally had me yelling to find out what happened to Brie. I won't go into details because I'm not a spoilery type of person;)
But I will say that this book picks up right where the first left off. You're hooked right from the start, needing to know what the heck was going on with Brie. But better yet, you finally find out just who Rafe Matthews really is!! My goodness this story is soooo good!
"Even though she's looking at me as if I'm a complete stranger, I'm not giving up on us. As long as I have my way, Gabriella Latham won't leave my sight. Not any time soon. Hell, preferably not ever."
I absolutely loved how this story had so many twists and turns. Everything was weaved together perfectly. Just when you thought the story was going one way...BAM...plot twist!
My hopeless romantic heart wanted Brie and Rafe to just be together and live in blissful harmony, but how boring would that story be, honestly?! I like that Tessa didn't just write these two characters as a "love at first sight", "peachy keen" couple. They have fought for each other and they continue to. Even through the lies and secrets, they still can't stay away from one another.
"It's my weakness, this man, and even though I shouldn't let him further ingrain himself in my heart, it's too late. He's already buried so deep that he'll never leave."
I'm on pins and needles waiting for the next book!!! These cliffhangers are so good!!! Yes, I'm a lover of cliffhangers:)
Rafe and Brie's story is nowhere near over! So many discoveries were made and so many secrets have been revealed. The past has caught up with the present and it's not good. If you thought they fought for their relationship before...hold on to your hats...and hearts! It's about to be a bumpy ride!

Escalation picks up right where Instigation left off. Brie’s life has been completely turned upside down. She is questioning everything that she thought she knew. The biggest question of all, who is Rafe and can she trust him? When Brie finally discovers the truth about Rafe, she’s angry and confused. Will Brie listen to what Rafe has to say? Has everything been a lie this entire time? Will their relationship be able to withstand the damage that’s been caused?
You know, I’m going to just keep this review short and sweet. I don’t want to give anything away. Escalation is a fantastic follow up to Instigation. We finally learn the truth about Rafe. But, for every answer we get, we are left with even more questions. I am desperate to know what is really going on. What do they want with Brie? Who in the world is the boss? How is everyone connected? What is the truth?
Escalation is one of those books that will really have you thinking. We have been given little bits and pieces of the puzzle and I for one can not wait to see how this will all come together. I enjoyed every second of this book. Not only was it full of suspense and surprises, but it still had plenty of swoon-worthy moments and steamy hot romance. I really wanted to love this book, but I just couldn't get into it. The story never really progressed in terms of what was really going on. The book was pretty much all about Rafe and Brie figuring out if they even wanted each other, which they did, then they didn't, then they did. (See where I am going ?) Hopefully the ending novel can be high flying action. And yes I am still #teamAdrian even though it's pretty obvious he's not the HEA :).

5+ “What a plot twist you were.” stars
Escalation is the second book in Clandestine Affairs Trilogy series. It was told in the first person dual POV. Like with the previous book I loved the writing and plot. It’s passionate, intriguing, intense romance with a mix of mystery, secrets, lies and suspense. It also answers a few questions from the book 1 – Instigation.
The series must be read in order to get and understand the full story and backstory but also to witness Brie and Rafe’s epic, unconventional love story.
This book continues where the first book left off: after the events at the end of the previous book Rafe is relentless to keep the girl of his dreams safe. But with some of the secrets out and shattered trust, he now needs to prove to her that their love is forever, that they are meant to be. They continue to grow together and get closer. Only there is a problem: their happiness is threatened by the demons of their past, family’s deceit/ lies and someone is targeting Brie. Rafe might as well be in danger too. Brie’s life is in danger and she is unsure of what the future holds.
Love that this second book gives a reader insight in Rafe’s past and the man he became. While reading a reader gets different sides of Rafe and understands him better, what he has been through and what shaped him into the man he is today.
Rafe and Brie are more amazing in this book. I love the way they love each other. They became stronger, more solid and enjoyed being together. He is over protective and wants to keep her safe. They mostly succeeded to find middle ground. She starts to trust him completely. They are even more passionate, swoony and intense in the second book and their connection and chemistry even more sizzling. I loved the light moments and their banter – it’s so great to see when they get to be playful with each other and to let go of their problems and live in the moment. Their journey together isn’t easy in this book too - it’s filled with so many obstacles, demons from the past. Brie doesn’t know who she can trust, except Rafe. Rafe is really supportive of her and wants to help her find the way to her old self, be stronger and let her make decisions but also protect her from the harm and danger. Love how they can lean on each other and be supportive. Somehow they always find a way to each other. Their transformation and development from book 1 is incredible. The stakes are higher in this book and there is more danger/past threatening to tear them apart.
It was fast paced, full of twists, a thriller; but also there was a lot of romance and romantic moments between Rafe and Brie. Like I said, we got to learn more about both of their pasts and Adrian’s role in this situation. The mystery, their family’s secrets, Rafe’s job and danger were one of the key moments and dare I say center story of Escalation. This is a really good sequel to a wonderful, unconventional love story with a romantic suspense and twists. Hopefully some of the remaining questions will be resolved in the third and final book in Rafe and Brie’s trilogy. Romance and romantic suspense lovers make sure to pick up this series and start from book 1 or you will not understand the story.
Escalation is the second book in Clandestine Affairs Trilogy series. It was told in the first person dual POV. Like with the previous book I loved the writing and plot. It’s passionate, intriguing, intense romance with a mix of mystery, secrets, lies and suspense. It also answers a few questions from the book 1 – Instigation.
The series must be read in order to get and understand the full story and backstory but also to witness Brie and Rafe’s epic, unconventional love story.
This book continues where the first book left off: after the events at the end of the previous book Rafe is relentless to keep the girl of his dreams safe. But with some of the secrets out and shattered trust, he now needs to prove to her that their love is forever, that they are meant to be. They continue to grow together and get closer. Only there is a problem: their happiness is threatened by the demons of their past, family’s deceit/ lies and someone is targeting Brie. Rafe might as well be in danger too. Brie’s life is in danger and she is unsure of what the future holds.
Love that this second book gives a reader insight in Rafe’s past and the man he became. While reading a reader gets different sides of Rafe and understands him better, what he has been through and what shaped him into the man he is today.
Rafe and Brie are more amazing in this book. I love the way they love each other. They became stronger, more solid and enjoyed being together. He is over protective and wants to keep her safe. They mostly succeeded to find middle ground. She starts to trust him completely. They are even more passionate, swoony and intense in the second book and their connection and chemistry even more sizzling. I loved the light moments and their banter – it’s so great to see when they get to be playful with each other and to let go of their problems and live in the moment. Their journey together isn’t easy in this book too - it’s filled with so many obstacles, demons from the past. Brie doesn’t know who she can trust, except Rafe. Rafe is really supportive of her and wants to help her find the way to her old self, be stronger and let her make decisions but also protect her from the harm and danger. Love how they can lean on each other and be supportive. Somehow they always find a way to each other. Their transformation and development from book 1 is incredible. The stakes are higher in this book and there is more danger/past threatening to tear them apart.

OMG!! HOLY CRAP!! WHAT A FREAKING ENDING!!! Okay got that out of my system.
This one picks up right where the last one left us hanging. (Thank Goodness). This time we get to watch the steamy connection between Brie and Rafe bloom into love. BUT we still have those questions and mysteries to figure and they become super sleuths. Secrets are unveiled and some questions are answered. But we get more mysteries people aren't who they seem, past connections are revealed. This book had me glued to my Kindle!
I am reading wide eyed wondering what the does all this mean and BAM!! I am hit with another OMG! ending.
So glad I am late at reading these because I don't have to wait for wait for the next one.

Escalation picks up beautifully where Instigation left off. When Brie almost died the truth about Rafe is exposed making Brie question herself. The one man she thought she could trust is leading a double life.
My heart went out to Adrian. Yes he changed but now I understand why. I feel he truly loves Brie and wants to protect her like Rafe but I feel he's between a rock and a hard place due to his father.
As Brie and Rafe start getting closer he life is still in danger since Adrian is in hiding.
A fabulous series that will keep you hooked with its mystery, suspense, betrayal, lies, truth and steamy scenes.

I liked this book. The plot is fast paced and I love the constant mystery to the story. I also love Rafe and I adore his personality. I would read the next one except... THERE IS NO NEXT ONE. It ended on a cliffhanger and I guess the author just decided to stop writing them. If I had known that, there is no way I would have read it. I really want to know what happens next but I guess I'll never find out. There should be a warning for people. Don't start this series! Who wants to read a book series for it not to be finished? Not me.

Escalation starts of right where Instigation leaves off and I am so glad it was written that way! Right of the bat the words are like a syringe pumping adrenaline into your system.
There were some many questions and so many pieces of the puzzle that needed to be filled in after the first book I was eager to learn the answers but the most important question I wanted the answer to was who is Rafe Matthews? Pretty early on we got that answer.....or did we?
With so many twists and turns and theories in the story meshing with the theories in my head I was a hot mess while reading this book. Thinking I knew the answers and then it's NOPE that's not it but here's another question for you.
Tessa Teevan is a romantic suspense genius. She gives you just enough to tease you and then gives you more to baffle you. Toss in some hot as hell sexy times and an unconventional love story and you have one hell of a book. I did curse Tessa when I got the end because I NEED MORE! I NEED TO PUT TOGETHER THE PIECES TO THE PUZZLE. I highly recommend this 5 star read!

After that mother of all cliffhangers (which rocked my socks) at the end of 'Instigation'-Book #1 in the Clandestine Affairs series, I had a billion questions!!!! These were ranging from WHAT IN THE EVER LOVING HELL JUST HAPPENED? to WHO IN THE ACTUAL JESUS CHRIST IS RAFE?
Tessa Teevan has brought a continuation to the table and this book continues where Book 1 finished, THANK GOODNESS!!!!
This book holds so much mystery, so much more intensity and a whole puzzle for you to attempt at solving, which I can assure you right now DO NOT FOR ONE SECOND THINK YOU ARE A DETECTIVE!!!! Trust me, that just does not work! I had so many ideas and conclusions buzzing around my head but Tessa threw in another dynamite and BOOM!!!!! I once again was left like "WHAT THE WHAT????" This book, it just will not make you feel relaxed, it absolutely does not contain unicorns and rainbows, but it will bring you the energy you want from a real suspenseful, hot and BLOODY BRILLIANT book!!!!!
Tessa is one of my go-to authors, and what I love about this series is just how different it is from her usual style. I love that she has challenged herself, yet the writing style which is so unique to Tessa shines through as you dive into this continuation.
Once again after finishing this book, you find yourself asking more questions. I read the book three times, just to ensure I didn't miss a single thing and NOPE!!!! I STILL NEED ANSWERS! So much still remains hidden, untold and secretive, if I thought it would help at all, I'd beat the living hell out of my kindle!
I loved that we got to experience a further connection between Brie and Rafe, I loved the twists, the secrets, the struggles and SWEET LORD HAVE MERCY.....THE STEAM!!! Tessa can write amazing heated scenes and this book, well it sure as hell signed sealed and delivered!
I'm not telling you what happens, this book deserves to be experienced!!!!!! But what you need to know: if you haven't read book one, DO IT NOW!!!!! So this book picks up where book 1 left off obviously. Rafe and Brie are trying to continue their relationship but there are lots of secrets coming out and everytime they think they are getting somewhere there is another road block in their way.
The story is well written and flows well. The charters are well developed and we'll matched.
This is another cliffhanger and I have to say, although I enjoyed the story and liked the characters, I did get to the end and wonder why the characters didn't learn their lesson from the 1st book.
That said I will definitely be reading book 3 because the mystery sourounding Brie and her parents is so intriguing that I desperately want to know how it all ends!
Great quick read but you definitely need to read book 1 first or you will have no idea what is going on.

I loved the first book in this series, but I do have to be honest and say that I couldn't remember where the first book ended lol! I mean, I could kinda remember, but I wanted to be 100% sure, so I went back and re-read the last few chapters before I started this book! I loved this book! Secrets were revealed, love was on the line and the mystery aspect was unexpected! There was also a bit of action in the book too! The plot was amazing! It just kept getting better and better, and I had such a hard time putting it down! There were a few twist and turns and unexpected surprises in the plot too! There was also plenty of romance in this book and plenty of hot scenes as well! The plot also went in a bit of a different direction to what I was expecting! I mean, some of it was what I was expecting, but most of it wasn't lol, especially where the mystery aspect lead too! The characters were great! Brie was again the main female character, and at the end of the last book she was in a very dangerous and life threatening situation! In this book, Brie tried to come to terms with everything she had been through and learn how to move on! I do have to say that I found it a bit harder to connect with Brie in this book! I thought that she sent way too many mixed signals to her love interest, Rafe, which actually made me feel really sorry for Rafe lol! I wished she was more honest and straight with him instead of shouting at him one minute and then wanting to have sex with him the next! I did like Brie though, and she had been through a lot, so I could understand why she was a bit temperamental at times! Rafe was again the main male character, and his big secret was revealed in this book! I kinda expected his secret because there were quite a few hints towards it in the first book, but you got to find out everything in this book about Rafe! It did take a good portion of this book to find out everything, but it was kinda worth the wait! Rafe was again seriously hot in this book, and he was so honest with Brie about his feelings for her! I could see that he was going to fight for her and to prove to her that she could trust him! This made me respect Rafe a lot, even though he did hide things from Brie in the first book! He did this to protect Brie and to make sure that she stayed safe! He was also very protective of her! I loved that this book was written from both Brie and Rafe's point of views like the first book was! It gave room for the plot to expand, which it did, and it helped me connect more with both characters as I was getting to experience the story through both of their eyes! I'm really excited to read the third and final book in this trilogy! I've loved the first two books, so I can't wait to see how everything is going to end! It's a bit of a wait for the next book, but I do still have a few other books from this author that I haven't read yet, so those should keep me going until then lol! The cover for this book is seriously hot! I loved it as soon as I saw it and the body on the front is seriously hot! I love how well it suits the first book's cover too!

IF YOU HAVENT READ THE FIRST BOOK IN THIS SERIES DO NOT READ ANYMORE.
So for some reason I missed (not really sure how that happened) that there was going to be a 3rd book in this series. I was hoping that we would get answers and we did, but of course it ends with...ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER. And although it isn't a good one, at least it doesn't feel as dire as the last one.
This book picks up right where the first left off. Brie is in the trunk of Adrian's car and that car is in the water. Luckily Brie survives, but Adrian disappears. When Brie wakes up in the hospital we finally find out who Rafe really is. It didn't come as too much of a surprise, but it did make me want to know WHY. Ahhhhh.....So many questions.
While Brie is in the hospital, the situations becomes even more complicated. A little fact (one that Brie has been wondering about) comes to light that makes ending this thing even more important. Rafe manages to explain some things to her and when is all said and done, Brie does go home with him. Despite everything, Brie loves Rafe and knows that she belongs with him.
I'm not going to say that everything between them is okay. Let's just say that it is and it isn't. The two of them might still be in the middle of a crazy situation, but one thing is made very clear: Rafe loves Brie with everything he has and he won't let anything happen to her. He wants a life together and she does too.
I love when the two of them are just themselves. Brie and Rafe. Two people in love. It's mentioned a couple times in the book that their love story may not have started out normally, but they are definitely enjoying the ride. And as a reader, I am too. These two are a fantastic couple and are meant to be together. I never once doubted Rafe's feelings for Brie, so I was very happy when all of her doubts go away.
In this book we get a little closer to finding out what is going on, but the more information Brie and Rafe uncover, the questions just multiply. Now I am a person who watches a lot of TV shows. Cop/FBI/crimesolving TV shows that I enjoy and pride myself on figuring out the mystery or whodunnit. But with this story I have NO IDEA what is going on. You're so good Tessa!! By the end of this book, she sets up what I going to assume is an awesome third part to this series, where we will finally learn everything, but also get that happily ever after I want so badly for Brie and Rafe. I can't wait!!!

You know that moment when you've been reading your book thinking when you finish it the story will be finished too, but then when you notice your progress and you know that the actual story can't possibly be finished before you run out pages? You know that wide-eyed, jaw-dropping, open-mouthed moment? Yeah, well, it happened with Escalation and the way it ended - just ARGH!!! ARGH as in anger! I'm actually not mad that it's not over because I love the whole mystery aspect to it and I'm really looking forward to the next book, it's really just the particular way ended. I just want yell, more than I already have, and I wish I could just reach through the book to just shake some sense into one of the characters because UGH! But despite all that, I really loved reading this book!
Oh, Brie, Brie, Brie, Brie, Brie, Brie, Brie. I love her, but sometimes it's really good that's she's only a fictional character - well, good for her anyway since she doesn't have to deal with my yelling. She definitely knows how to drive me totally batty sometimes, but for the most part, I really like her. It's true that she gets confused and she struggles with her head and heart, but Brie is truly brave and she becomes a stronger person every day. I love seeing it and I'm proud of her.
I didn't think it would be possible for Rafe to steal any more of my heart than he did in Instigation, but boy, was I ever wrong! He completely and utterly stole my heart and owned it. He's so sweet and protective and devoted to Brie and he just says the most perfect, heart melting things that Brie and I never stood a chance. Rafe is the kind of hero that you want your book boyfriend to be like. He's just amazing and I loved, loved, loved him!!
Escalation is a heartbreaking, beautiful, touching read full of mystery, suspense, steam, and some sweetness. It will keep you on your toes and guessing what's going to happen next. There are times when it frustrated me and made me yell, times where it made my heart ache and melt, and a lot of times where it made me laugh, smile, and sigh. It's an amazing read and I enjoyed it quite a lot!

I've been waiting for this book for what seems like FOREVER! I needed to know who Rafe really was and what was going to happen to Brie after the end of Instigation.
Escalation does not disappoint! We finally get to know who Rafe really is, and to see more of the mystery that surrounds Brie. Finding out who Rafe Mathews was was an awesome thing. I had ideas, but when it was all laid out there, I was like well hmm.... wasn't expecting all of that. I am definitely wanting to know who "The Boss" is and I have some suspicions, but am not sure if I'm right, as I have been wrong about a lot in this series already.
When Brie found out all about Rafe she was ANGRY and hurt, but the draw to him is too strong that she understands what he did and why he did it, even if she doesn't fully agree with everything he's done. It took some time for her to get why he did what he did, and she was definitely hot and cold with him during this time, which I enjoyed.
Brie and Rafe have a long road ahead of them, and unlike most second books in a trilogy, Escalation has a thick plot and gives us some answers. This is not a filler book, but one that you have to read. The things we find out from Brie and Rafe's past are amazing, and even more confusing. For every one answer we get, I feel like I have two more waiting to be answered. I adore Rafe and Brie and truly hope they do get their HEA, but there is so much that needs to be answered before they can even think about this.
Seeing Brie wanting to help Rafe and them being equals in their relationship now that most of the secrets are out was awesome. You can't deny how much Rafe feels about Brie, and Brie is definitely in love with him as well. They are HOT together, but it's not just the bedroom chemistry that makes these two work. They make each other laugh, they care, and are there for one another, and I adored this about their story.
Needless to say you have to read Instigation to read Escalation, this is not a stand alone. This trilogy is AMAZING and I absolutely cannot wait till the third and final book is here so I can get all the answers that are swirling around in my head.
Escalation does not disappoint! We finally get to know who Rafe really is, and to see more of the mystery that surrounds Brie. Finding out who Rafe Mathews was was an awesome thing. I had ideas, but when it was all laid out there, I was like well hmm.... wasn't expecting all of that. Holy Smokes. What a suspenseful ride full of twists and turns at every page. I adore this author's books and just knew I had to take a chance on this new series which is totally out of the norm for her. Book one was astounding and this installment... brilliant and totally addicting. This book was quite sexy, steamy, suspenseful, mysterious and had me questioning all of the assumptions I had made along the way. And that ending... whoa! I applaud this author for stepping out of the box with this new series and giving us more than her previous books!
This is the continuation of Gabriella's story. Picking up where book one left off, Gabriella has survived the crash but nothing will ever be the same. She doesn't know who to trust or what to believe anymore. She has fallen in love with Rafe but does she really know him? And now that circumstances have changed, what will happen? Her life is now swirled with lies, suspense, mystery and a ton of doubt. And Rafe... he desperately wants to keep Gabriella safe and build on their future. He will do anything he has to do to make that happen. Get ready for one twisted ride...
This installment was amazing. I loved the dual POVs we get for both of them because I like to be able t feel their struggles. I knew Rafe was hiding something big but damn... he really blew my mind. I feel the love and passion he has for Gabriella but it seems the world is going against them. And Gabriella... my heart bleeds for her but I like that she is trying to move on. I like that she is giving Rafe chances when she could have turned her back. The heart wants what the heart wants...
I am dying to get my hands on the final installment because that ending... was killer!

4 stars!! I really love this series, it’s emotional, it’s romantic. It’s sexy, there’s not enough adjectives to describe how I feel.

The pieces are starting to fall into place as truths are revealed, but those discoveries only seem to further complicate things for Rafe and Brie in the follow-up to Instigation, because trust has been broken, leaving both of them wondering what happens next.
Questions still run rampant even after the conclusion of Escalation. It remains unclear where the danger is coming from and how Brie’s past comes into play with the threat to her future. No one seems to truly be who they claim, which puts Brie in an extremely precarious position, forcing her to make decisions without all the facts, only relying on her heart, which has already led her astray.
Rafe has a lot to make up for, and he needs to begin with the truth if Brie is going to allow him to remain in her life, but it’s clear that even with Rafe unveiling certain information, there’s still much to learn.
There’s no denying the passion and lust that exists between Rafe and Brie, but if there’s no trust, how can they build on their relationship?
Tessa Teevan does a great job crafting two interwoven story lines that focus on Brie and Rafe's relationship and what's at stake for both of them in a game where too many of the players are unclear. Progress is made on both accounts but as the secrets are revealed, the danger increases, which puts Rafe's promise to Brie to keep her safe in jeopardy.
The mystery and suspense of Escalation will have readers coming up with their own theories throughout the text, which makes Brie and Rafe’s story a captivating read, but regardless of what their conclusions are, readers won’t know all of the truth until book 3 releases.

If you have not read book one yet…..STOP reading!
I have to say after reading the first book I was left a bit underwhelmed but out of curiosity I forged ahead with the second book. Which, got me totally hooked on this series. While the 2nd book felt a bit dragged out at times it held my attention and really had me wanting to find out what the hell was going on.
With that being said book two picks up where one leaves off….you don’t know if Brie is alive or dead. Obviously if there is a book 2, she is alive and well and finds herself with a big surprise!!!
I honestly don’t want to give too much away, I feel it would ruin it for readers but I will say I am still in the dark and can not for the life of me fit all the pieces to the puzzle together…..and there are a lot! While Brie finds out exactly who Rafe is and her initial reaction is rage….she calms down and gives him the chance to explain.
Hints and bits and pieces are revealed but nothing is fitting. I have my suspicions but nothing concrete yet……this was definitely a page turner and I have fallen in lust with Rafe. He is just the perfect male….lol.
One thing for sure is, due to new circumstances Rafe needs to keep Brie safe and he doesn’t leave her side. I have no clue who his “Boss” is but I have a feeling its gonna be a shocker not only as to who he is but what his real intentions are. There are so many unanswered questions and naturally the 2nd book is left with another huge cliffhanger….I will definitely be patiently waiting for the next book!!

And just when I thought things were becoming clearer…
This is the second in the Clandestine Affairs series which is a romance steeped in mystery. Brie Latham’s relationship with Rafe Matthews is not a traditional “boy meets girl and they live happily ever after” story – at least not up to this point. If you haven’t read book one, definitely do that first as the twists and turns are built up right from the beginning and you don’t want to miss a curve.
Brie needed to remove herself from a relationship that had turned from loving to loveless over the last few months. She didn’t know Rafe was going to not only help her but also become so much more. There were so many unanswered questions about Adrian and why he had come into Brie’s life that she shouldn’t be as surprised as she is by the shocking revelations that just keep on coming. Did she have to question Rafe and his motivations now as well?
Twisty, twisty, twisty is the name of the game that continues to keep me guessing and wondering how much drama is this girl going to have to endure? Who are the bad guys really? And what is the real reason this has all happened in the first place? Snippets of information are grudgingly given here and there but seem to taunt rather than inform. This author knows how to twist that drama knife! And that drama thermometer is definitely high on the mercury as one thing after another makes this rocky romance teeter even more precariously.
The first story ended in a doozy of a cliffhanger and this one has done the same thing! The anticipation is bordering between delicious and kindle throwing so I hope the final book in this trilogy is available soon.
