A hidden Dweller document is stolen. A second spiral crack appears in the Veiled Vault. And someone in town is not who they claim to be.
As Calderis investigates rising rebel whispers in Elarion and Holden tracks a false identity back to the Whisperwood, Lyra uncovers a web of carefully placed lies—one of which may have rewritten her own history. The season’s haves changed again and so it’s time for another festival. Lyra is hoping that this one runs smoothly and there is no more murder, no reason for investigations. Alas that is not to be as a choir singer dies in an all too convenient manner. So once again the agents trying to maintain the peace and balance must work together to uncover the truth. I really like the quirky and unique style of these stories. There is a lovely blend of small town charm and all that entails with supernatural elements and beings and a balance trying to be maintained. There’s also a little hint of conspiracy with the introduction of dissidents. Very enjoyable book and series as well!.

The Well-Placed Lie by Kari Lee Townsend has Lyra Wells is trying to get life back to normal for the town of Wishville. It has been a difficult year with all that has gone on in the previous books. However, there is no rest for the weary since the Winter WishFest is suddenly having its own misfortune. Lyra finds this charming small town with a magical wishing well and a hidden realm is up against some trouble that may be major if not stopped. A delightful cozy supernatural story that will have you wishing that you could visit in spite of the danger rearing its ugly head. The Well-Placed Lie is a wonderful story on its own but also adds to the overall theme of the Wishville’s and the realm of Elarion’s special relationship.
Lyra Wells, the half human and half dweller guardian of the well in Wishville, has her hands full trying to keep Winter Wishfest running smoothly. Funds are being stolen, there are various mishaps and the lead caroler in the choir dies during while performing.
In the fourth book in the Wishville mystery series, Lyra, sheriff Holden, dweller enforcer Calderis and their friend Lulu follow clues and fight danger to solve these mysteries.

Another great story in Wishville. A death during Winter Wishfest makes Lyra, Holden, and Calderis begin to question everything they’ve been told. They rush to figure out who is responsible for the death, and try to determine if they’re on the right path to the truth. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it.
This small-town paranormal murder mystery really pulled me in. The story is set in a charming little town that feels vivid and alive, with a touch of the supernatural woven seamlessly into the plot.
The mystery itself is engaging, with enough twists to keep me guessing without feeling overcomplicated. The author does a great job balancing the eerie, paranormal elements with the small-town charm and intrigue. Each of the characters is interesting in their own way, and the dynamics between them add depth to the story. I found myself especially enjoying the quirky personalities and how they all played a role in unfolding the mystery.
THE WELL-PLACED LIE by Kari Lee Townsend The Fourth Wishville Mystery
Winter has arrived in Wishville, Vermont and with it Winter WishFest. Lanterns glow, cozy scents of cinnamon and pine fill the air, and fresh fallen snow makes a delightful picture, but something is off. Opening night turns tragic when lead caroler Violet Snowe suddenly collapses. If a heart attack during WishFest wasn't bad enough, it turns out that Violet was actually murdered. Did the killer truly mean to kill Violet or was Festival Chair Lyra Wells the intended victim? Multiple vendors are also reporting missing money. Is there a thief and a murderer? Are the crimes related? Lyra must uncover secrets and lies and trust in her friends to keep Wishville safe.
The fourth Wishville Mystery is a lot more serious than previous books in the series with a dark undertone that pervades it. While there is some humor, there's a fragile quality, a tenseness that exists. Lyra and Thorn's date night, Vex's snarky comments, enjoying festival events, all cozy activities showing warmth and friendship, but there's an unnerving sense of danger and the feeling that something could go irrevocably wrong.
In THE WELL-PLACED LIE people are not who they seem. Some act out of desperation, some out of greed. Some are cunning and patient, others feel they've waited too long. Some, Lyra, Lulu, and even Calderis included, can act rashly. Family, friendship, and love all play pivotal roles. I was anxious for, not only Lyra, but Holden, Calderis, and Lulu. I was grateful for Vex and Fenrin and pleased to watch the Wellies in action. I really appreciate the calculated plotting of the series arc. There are some stunning surprises!
THE WELL-PLACED LIE will have your heart in your throat as dark danger surrounds the Winter WishFest.
The Well-Placed Lie by Kari Lee Townsend is the fourth book in the Wishville Mystery series. Though you could read it as a standalone, you'll enjoy it more if you know what has been happening in both the human world of Wishville and the Dweller world of Elarion.
It's once again time for a Wishfest in Wishville. It's winter, and this small Vermont town is covered with snow and beautiful winter decorations. The stalls are all set up, and the festival is kicking off with the choir singing. Then, one of the singers collapses under what appears to be natural causes. However, we know that in Wishville, it may not have been natural at all. Money begins to go missing leading Lyra, half human and half dweller, who is in charge of Wishfest, to wonder if the two are connected or if they're separate crimes.
As usual, the four main characters are very well-written with unique personalities. I've enjoyed watching their character growth throughout the books. The side characters are very important to the story, especially the Wellies...my favorites! There are cats too! The author makes this story come alive by igniting your senses. For example, you can smell the hot chocolate, see the impossible beauty in Elarion, feel the cold, and taste the fries! Townsend creates a world in which you become totally immersed, and it's so cozy (except for the murders), you want to stay!
This murder mystery is well-plotted and moves at a good pace. A lot happens in both worlds, and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next! I definitely recommend it to cozy mystery lovers!

Wishville Vermont Is an out of the way small town. It is said the propose of their seasonal Wishfests is to bring in tourists. Lyra, her police chief Holden , Detective Cal Deron and. LuLu know the true reason. Calderon is the guard for the realm of Elarion while Lyra is the guardian at the well. Four times a year people can drop their wish into the well and at the festivals end, someones wish comes true. It was granted by the elders of Elderon. The festivals are held in a peace agreement between the worlds. Past festivals have been 'interrupted' by havoc and murder. This festival finds murder rears an ugly head and takes the life of the head choir singer. To complicate things it seems Lyra was running behind schedule to taste samples of all the food. Violet was given the samples intending to make fresh ones for Lyra. Violet sings and has what is seen as a heart attack, but was it? If it was poison in the samples, was Lyra the target? Are the rogue Elderonians, lead by Lyra's mother, leading her into jeopardy to uncover what her mom has said The Elders are lying? I really enjoy my trips to Wishville and it's seasonal fairs.
I want to thank Kari Lee Townsend for an ARC of this book.
Winter Wish Fest is in full swing when the lead vocalist in the choir collapses and dies during their concert. Mysterious thefts occur throughout the festival and some very unsavory guests are in attendence.
Questions arise when it's discovered that the singer was murdered and Lyra wonders if she might have been the actual target.
The group is still dealing with what they discovered from Serena, and Lyra and LuLu are running their own investigation and stumble into a dangerous situation when they go to Elarian alone.
Things get very dark and intense as they are confronted by a different faction of rebels who want to take over from Serena.
There is a lot going on between the thefts, murder, covert meetings, and shocking revelations to keep you turning the pages and loving this newest visit to Wishville. I couldn't put it down.
4.5 upped to 5 A cozy paranormal mystery that smells like snow and hot cocoa. Lanterns glow, the festival sparkles, and Lyra does her usual trick of juggling magic, intuition and responsibility without dropping a single charm. The mystery plays fair with clever clues and zero gore. The quiet tension between Wishville and Elarion gives the whole story a lovely emotional pulse. Highly recommended. Many thanks for this digital copy, all opinions are mine.
This series is a keep-forever series. The fests get more involved each time. Above, below and In-between dwellers. The main characters reach new depths and understanding. Their powers get better, change. Human and dweller motivations get clarified. This ending is so unexpected and welcome and a new chapter is beginning.
Book four is just as good as the prior three. Without giving away too much, this book has murder, mystery, two worlds interacting together, and action all packed into one. I was on the edge of my seat. Would definitely recommend this book and series.
