Book Two of the Whispering Cozy Magical Cat Mysteries
Threads & Tinctures
She came to Whispering Falls to leave. She stayed for the ward, the cats, and a life she didn't know she was building.
Clara Mercer is forty years old, a ward keeper, and — against every six-week plan she made last autumn — completely at home.
The Blackwood estate knows her footsteps now. The ward hums steady when she runs her hands along the Loom. Seven cats with specific jobs and strong opinions have accepted her as management, more or less. She has a bakery learning to run itself in a friend's absence, a sourdough starter that demands Tuesday feedings, and Evie's grimoire full of tincture recipes that work better than they should.
She has Nora, who shows up with imperfect frosting and the kind of friendship Clara didn't know she was missing. She has Daniel... steady, kind, present at 3am when the kittens need feeding and nothing else needs to be said.
And she has Tom Whitaker, who drives past more often than his route requires and will, at the very end of a very long year, say exactly four words.
Then a small gray cat appears at the eastern boundary. The ward cats go on alert. Something in the network is fraying from the inside, and whatever placed it there understood exactly what it was doing.
Clara has Evie's recipes, seven opinionated allies, and a mother who is finally choosing to use what she was born with. The ward held once. It will hold again.
Threads & Tinctures is the second book in the Whispering Falls Cozy Magical Cat Mysteries — warm, layered, and built to keep you reading. Each mystery resolves completely. The magic keeps deepening.
Perfect for fans of Amanda M. Lee, Leighann Dobbs, and Annabel Chase.
I love this book! A new person has come into Clara’s life, and she now has a friend about her age with very similar interests. Of course, that’s just a little bit of the story. Clara’s mother is also starting to embrace her witchiness. Tom has stepped up his romance game. However, that’s not what this is about either! What I loved about this book were the cats… magical, talking, wise, , and who knows how old they are? Once again, Victor, the villain, is trying to cause havoc. Will Clara, her cats, and her friends, be able to stop this evil man? Because the books in the series still upon each other, I recommend that you begin at the beginning and then just keep on reading them because like potato chips I find it hard to stop at just one.
This second book in the series did not disappoint. It was very intriguing and mysterious. The characters are fascinating, especially the cats!

I think I understand the language of this book better than most because I am a cat person. That means absolutely nothing on any level I can explain. I just see my cats in some of the cat behavior I read. I also love the way each of the supporting protagonists is described and how their pieces of the entire puzzle fit together with the main protagonist Clara. Family is important, when each of the members work well together and they don't have to be blood and bone to be family. I absolutely love the way this story is progressing and have loved each adventure told. As I have said in all my reviews concerning this series. I cannot possibly recommend this book highly enough.
I am loving this series by Hazel Whitmore. She knows how to craft a story with a magical flair, which really pulled me into the series with the first book: Whiskers & Wards. The second book did not disappoint me, either. Threads & Tinctures answers questions left over from the first book and pulls you in with a new character or two that will make you want to move to Whispering Falls.
Be prepared for more great mysteries with the cats, the characters, and the town itself!
I recommend this book in the series, too! It does not disappoint!
Story is very involved with the feelings of the main character and how she tries to get all the pieces to fit so that everything is in its proper place and no one can find fault with the evidence being collected. Story is still ongoing but should wrap up in the third book.
The minute I finished Whiskers and Wards I bought book two. I finished it at 5 this morning. It also was a unique book. The story line is spell binding. The way the author writes is very different and the subject matter is intense. Read as soon as possible. I'm headed for book 3.
