I couldn’t put this book down and had to stay up to finish it. All of the characters felt so special. Kendyll and Xander have my heart. This book had me laughing and sobbing. Be sure to check trigger warnings because this book has some really hard trauma. But the way that Sylver writes feels so special. There’s only one book left in this series and I can’t wait for it, but don’t want it to end. I’ve loved them all.
This book broke me— Waking my husband in the middle of the night because of my sobbing, type of breaking. I have mixed feelings about the ending, which is why I didn’t give the book a solid 5✨rateing. The ending is happy-ish? It makes sense for the characters, but it also isn’t really a Typical ending. I had to sit and think on this one to be sure how I felt about it before writing my review. That being said, this book is amazing. I was hooked from page one. Sylver is such an amazing story teller, and the characters of the Sinners Do It Better series are just so damn good. The Devil And His Ghost follows Xander and Kendyll (Mr. Monster & his Ghost). Through this book you meet Kendyll as a child and the story progresses as she ages with her many encounters with Xander in between. If you love Demons, Musicians, women that can talk to ghosts(including her ghost cat), asylums with ghosts, mystery, and a deep-time-spanning-longing, this book is for you. Please check your triggers for your own mental health. And do yourself a giant favor and read the entire series. Although these books can be read as standalones, I highly suggest that you don’t read them out of order. Ya know, for timeline and character development purposes. grab your tissues book babes.
“Sinners do it better” is my favorite dark/demon romance series and I’m so grateful to have received this ARC and finally get to read Xanders story 💕
One of the things I’ve raved about in my reviews of the previous books is the spice! 🔥 The spice was super spicy and pretty kinky and I ate it up. I mean that was some of the best spice I’ve ever read 👌🏼 This book however feels different and definitely a lot less spicy. I kept waiting for those deliciously kinky scenes I’ve come to love and expect from this series, but they never really came. It’s still spicy, but not like the previous books.
Another thing I love about this series is how Sylver always writes these interesting characters filled with so much emotional depth and trauma and this book is no different. I LOVED Xander, he’s probably my new favorite Sinners MMC. Contrary to the other books, he’s the one who falls first and he is so good to Kendyll. He’s funny, considerate, protective, emotional and a true consent king 👑🔥 Kendyll has lived through so much trauma already and she’s a mess, always running because she don’t want to deal with her past. She’s build these massive walls around her and Xander is the only one she lets in. I love how they are when they’re together and how they keep returning to each other even when they try to fight it 💕 It really is such a bittersweet love story for most of the book.
There’s a dual timeline throughout the book and I really enjoyed that, it told the story in such a beautiful way. I also loved how Xander and Kendyll met the first time and how their relationship developed throughout the years. Another thing about this book that I thoroughly enjoyed is the paranormal aspect, it is so freaking cool. Ghosts, an abandoned mental asylum, it has proper horror vibes at times, I love it 🫣🙋🏽♀️ There’s some really great found family moments throughout the book and I always love that.
This book has a major plot twist. Some will figure it out pretty easily and others will be absolutely blindsided by it (in the best way possible). I guessed it really early on, I’ve read a book with a similar plot twist, but I was really hoping I was wrong. I can’t really explain why, I was just hoping for literary anything else 😅 I wasn’t wrong and even though I’m not a big fan of this plot twist or the ending I still cried a little a few times, because it was so beautifully written. Most of you will probably LOVE this plot twist and the ending and cry your eyes out. It will rip your heart out and put it back in place ❤️
I really wish I loved this book more than I do, but this was my least favorite so far (even though Xander is my favorite MMC). I was disappointed with the spice and the plot twist wasn’t what I wished for (but that’s a me thing). I suspect this book will get a lot of 5 stars reviews and I get that. To me it was more like 3.5 stars because of my issues with it, but absolutely not because of the writing or the characters, which is amazing as always 💕
Now I just can’t wait for Coldin! I mean his story has to be absolutely unhinged 😅😂🔥🔥🔥
I should know by now that if I pick up a book by this author that one of three things are going to happen.. one...I'm not going to be able to put it down...and two...it's going to absolutely wreck me in the best way possible, and three...I'm probably going to shed some tears.
And wrecked me it did...from the very beginning when we meet this little girl who is so special and incredible, yet so misunderstood meets her Mr. Monster...to the very end when we realize that nothing is ever as it seems...and well... it left me feeling haunted.
Kendyll, the FMC, this sweet soul has been through so much in her short life. And yet she's so incredibly gifted and has a heart of gold.
Xander, the MMC, is a mischievous demon/rockstar, that manages to make friends with his little ghost by accident, and yet there's just something about her that keeps his interest.
These two orbit around each other, and it's such a bitter sweet love story. He's her Mr. Monster...he keeps the other monsters away..or at least he tries to. And she's his little ghost...despite her trying to help ghosts...she really just haunts him.
Their connection is instant and their chemistry is undeniable.
How this book managed to be so incredibly hot and emotional all at the same time had my head spinning...but ain't mad about it.
And just when I think that these two have slayed their inner demons....this author ripped the rug right out from underneath me...did I cry...yes, yes I did.
I can say that with this Author I can never predict what is going to happen or how the story is going to go....and it's so refreshing.
I absolutely loved Kendyll and Xander's story. It was everything I had hoped for and so much more.
And we got to see even more of our beloved other characters...and COLDIN!!! iykyk....
You're gonna need your tissues for this one. Wouldn't hurt to have your comfort snack handy too and if you have a pet, be sure they're ready for all the cuddles and emotional support...you'll need it after reading this book. There's trauma, suspense, a haunted hospital, ghost hunting, a romance that's complicated, but with reason. There's darkness that lurks and the reveal of it, is shocking. There's revenge. But most importantly, there's absolute heart shattering truth revealed in the end.
I've loved this series so much, but this one goes a little differently than the first 3. Xander & Kendyll are just EVERYTHING! Their story had me in a chokehold and than by the end I was absolutely shattered. . I just adored Kendyll's character. She's able to see ghosts and speak with them. Including a ghost cat that she's sorta adopted. 🥰 oh how I love Catsper. 🐈⬛ But she also has a traumatic past. That has her struggling with life in general. Secrets that even when told, no one believed her. But when she needed someone the most...Xander mysteriously crosses her path. And their story strangely starts there, although technically it won't really begin till many years later. Xander though, seeing him in the previous books you wouldn't imagine him as an emotional demon. He's a mischief demon who enjoys causing well, mischief. But underneath all that, he's got a heart that beats for only one person. . It's honestly difficult for me to write this review without spoiling anything. I just highly recommend this book. This series. And I'm also sending over my therapy invoice to Sylver. 😭 I also wish I could physically hug these characters. 😭
Thank you Sylver for the arc and having me on your team. 🫶🏻
I signed up to be an ARC reader because I just couldn't wait to read the next installment of the Sinners Do It Better series. And let me just say... I'm so glad I did. I loved all the previous books but I think this one is my favorite (so far!).
It once again follows a Human (Kendyll) and her demon (Xavier) but unlike the previous books, these two were already well acquainted with each other and I loved that change in the dynamic. It shows a different side to the demons that we haven't seen before and as always the demons weren't the monsters of the story. Time jumps were used but in a way that made sense and weren't confusing like they can be in other books.
The emotional Rollercoaster I went on during the last like three chapters of the book? It was perfect, I really like it when books take you on that kind of journey but then still leave you completely surprised in the end. I loved it even more that the twists and surprises still took me by surprise because I pride myself on being able to see what twists would be before they come and I was taken completely off guard which was so refreshing.
I absolutely loved this book and I hope that you pick it up too. If you love the more paranormal side of things, like Ghost Whisperer/Ghost Files with an added consent king of spice, and a ghost cat with one of the best names I've read for a pet, then this is the book for you.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Wow, I haven’t cried that much over a book in ages! I’m glad you saved the big emotional punch for the end.
It all starts when a little girl named Kendyll meets her Mr. Monster, Xander, a mischief demon who wanders into her house looking to boost his power by stirring up some fear. That’s where the pinky promises begin. A promise he made just to escape the kid who didn’t know boundaries when it comes to personal space.
Kendyll has a unique ability, which, as a child, became the perfect excuse to have her committed to hide the truth about her situation. Their paths cross again just before her 18th birthday, and he helps her escape the torment she’s endured for most of her childhood at the hospital. He gets her out and decides to let her stay at his place since he is not there often. His “pet fish”. She has a lot of trauma and doesn’t stick around long.
He breaks his promises often, and she’s a runner.
Somehow, they keep getting pulled back together a few years later. Every time she runs. Then they eventually reconnect to catch up.
This was an incredible story! I had a slight hint of what was coming, but I wasn’t fully prepared until that scene actually happened.
Also… Coldin is next, right? He’s the only one left! You can’t keep us waiting! 🤣
I haven't read a book by Sylver that I haven't loved and The Devil and His Ghost is no different. It is book 4 in the Sinners Do it Better series and honestly, it is fighting for top spot being my fave in the series. If you know how much I love the other 3 books, you know that is saying something.
Where do I begin?! Its just perfect. The setting, vibes, chemistry, plot and all the feelings consumed me.
Kendyll is resilient and sassy. Did I mention she can see ghosts? And has a ghost cat?? She has experienced more life than most but she keeps on keeping on. She catches the eye of one of our fave band members. If you have read the other books, you've met Xander. And you may think you have him pegged, but I can confirm, he will surprise you. He is not what he seems (aside from the whole demon thing). She may fall first, but let me just say, he falls so much harder.
Their relationship has a lot of history and I loved getting the background and seeing where they are now. It felt like I was watching a movie, and I loved absolutely every minute of it. I don't want to spoil anything, but will say, prepare for anything! I am so excited for TDAHGhost to be out in the wild and cannot wait for book 5.
I am such a huge fan of this series, and after three books I really thought I had Sylver Michaela’s pattern figured out. Every author, whether they mean to or not, usually has a style you start to recognize. Apparently I was very, very wrong.
This book took my heart, looked me dead in the eyes, and casually tossed it off a cliff without a second thought.
I know this entire series tackles incredibly heavy topics, and I’m no stranger to dark books, but this one absolutely wrecked me. I was crying so hard by the end. The themes aren’t necessarily darker than the previous books, but something about the way this story was told hit so much harder emotionally.
The writing was phenomenal, and I became completely obsessed with these characters. They felt so real that every painful moment landed exactly where it was supposed to.
And that twist… I never saw it coming. My jaw literally dropped. The epilogue helped heal my heart just a little, but I’m still refusing to forgive what happened before it. If a book can leave me this emotionally destroyed and still have me recommending it to everyone, that’s a sign of just how well it was written.
Just be prepared—this one doesn’t pull its punches.
I was not surprised when I finished this book that it was gonna be a 5 ⭐. What I love about this series is each book takes you on a different emotional journey. The rawness that you feel for each character is truly incredible! You get something a little different with this one compared to the others. The spooky vibes of a ghost story. There was a point that my heart was racing and I felt the thrill roll through me. You also get a couple plot twists in this creation that has you gasping with the realization. I loved that I could feel the connection between the characters. I loved that I could feel their pain, fear and love. I seriously didn't want it to end! I'm excited to see how the final Sinner gets his story, and I will be waiting with baited breath. The Devil and His Ghost was absolutely hauntingly beautiful 🖤👻
What a book!! I knew for a fact Sylver would right another amazing book after reading the other 3 of her books from this series and by god was I right!!! This book is just spectacular. I love the structure of the whole book, the couple, the ghostly cat side kick!! I love Xander aka Mr Monster and his ghost Kendyll!! The Pinky promise theme throughout was just perfection and capture the very heart and soul of this couple. Small spoiler I don’t think I’ve ever sobbed as much both sad and happy tears at a book. Sylver has such a talent with her words and storytelling that you feel each emotion alongside the characters and this book hits you right in the feels. I’m so happy with the ending!! An all round amazing book to follow on in this spectacular series. I highly recommend this beautiful story! I pinky promise you won’t regret it!! xx
I don’t know if I can do a review where I don’t spoil anything nor give the book justice for how good it was.
I’ve been following along with the series since the first book was released and The Devil and His Sparrow had been my favorite about of the series but after finishing this one I can just say it is not only my favorite from the series but one of my favorite reads of the year.
It was just so beautiful. You got the paranormal and ghost vibes with this one. You also got childhood trauma and the constant fight that the FMC goes through trying to not let it consume her.
Their pinky promises! Listen I’m rambling but all I can say is I’ve never had the need to finish reading a book and have the need to pick it up and read it right back and this one this for me. I can’t wait for the series to be complete so I can get my book trophies.
Literally this series just gets better and better. It started out as perfection but has gained top fucking tier status! The man Xander is. He’s perfection. The devotion he has for Kendyll is unmatched. He’s completely consumed by her to where he’s nothing without her.
READ IT! You won’t regret diving into to this series. If you like dark paranormal romance, demons obsessed with their women and having a damn good spicy time throughout all of it then this series is for you!
🖤 Golden Retriever Demon MMC 🖤 Black Cat FMC 🖤 He falls first, she falls harder 🖤 Childhood Trauma 🖤 She has a ghost cat 🐈⬛ 🖤 She sees ghost 🖤 He tattoos her 🖤 Hurt/Comfort 🖤 Breed!ng k!nk 🖤 He’s completely consumed by her 😍 🖤 Shadow Play 😈
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | The Devil and His Ghost by Sylver Michaela
This book had me in an absolute chokehold from start to finish.
If you love dark paranormal romance, obsessive devotion, childhood history, and an MMC who would destroy anyone who dared touch her, add this to your TBR immediately. The chemistry is addictive, the tension is relentless, and the emotional moments hit just as hard as the spice.
The characters felt beautifully flawed, the supernatural world was immersive, and I genuinely couldn't put it down. Every "just one more chapter" turned into five.
🖤 Demon romance 👻 Childhood history 🗡️ Touch her and die 🌶️ Perfect amount of spice 💔 Emotional with a satisfying payoff
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
"Respectfully… this book just raised my standards."
I absolutely loved this book. So far every book in this series has been amazing and this one did not disappoint. I am so glad I signed up to be an ARC reader. I honestly couldn’t wait for the release date.
Kendyll and Xander’s story is somehow both heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. I have no idea how Sylver does it. Every book in this series has me literally crying and then afterwards all I want is more.
The Devil and His Ghost, as well as the other Sinners Do It Better books, will be a favorite of mine that I will be rereading over and over.
Last thing and small spoiler: I wish I could have my own ghost cat named Catsper. So cute. 👻🐈⬛
This book was AMAZING! I already fell in love with the first 3 books in this series, and this one was no different. I'm so thankful I was offered the chance for this ARC. Xander's love for Kendyll is EVERYTHING! I love that it goes between the past and the present to give more background on how they met and the struggles they faced together. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but there are definitely some twists in this I didn't see coming. And as with her other Sinners Do It Better books, I of course cried because the way she writes these characters and their stories, I feel all their emotions. So worth the read!
Sylver has done it again!!! I swear every new book in this series I say is my new favorite but it’s just hard to choose!! It’s a solid tie between this one and the devil and his Star!
This one had me laughing out loud, kicking my feet giggling, on the edge of my seat NEEDING to know what happens next, and BAWLING! 😭
I was NOT expecting the thriller like twists and turns in this one but man it was so freaking good!! I also didn’t see the ending coming at all which I always LOVE because predictably becomes boring.
Yet again Sylver has delivered an emotional rollercoaster of a book. Kendyll is a deeply traumatised FMC and it is gut wrenching to piece together exactly what she has been through as the story progresses and more of her past is revealed. She is, understandably, very flawed but she owns those flaws and her trauma and is actively trying to grow and heal. Xander is such a compelling MMC. For all his demonic darkness he is one of the most devoted, patient, loyal and protective MMCs I have ever read. He doesn’t always get things right but I love the way he owns his mistakes and tries to grow and rectify them. The story weaves between past and present perfectly to build the picture of Kendyll and Xander’s relationship and evoke maximum emotional investment before unleashing a twist that completely takes you out - Yes, Sylver made me cry again! I enjoyed seeing our favourites from the previous books and the way the girls are there for each other and immediately ready to offer that support to Kendyll. This series is without doubt my favourite paranormal romance series and this book is yet another fine example of why SDIB have my heart in a chokehold!
The Devil and His Ghost is about Kendyll(ghost seer) and Xander(sexy demon). It is part of the Sinners Do it Better series and can be read alone but I recommend reading them all. To the Pros and Cons!
Pro- sexy likeable characters Pro- delicious fun sex scenes Pro- fun premise Pro- crazy twist Pro- did I mention ghost cat
Con-not a fan of going back and forth in the time-line, but it's handled relatively well
I don't want to post any spoilers, but I will say TDAHG is a book you don't want to miss and will definitely want to reread again and again.
ARC REVIEW! This book was beautifully written. It had twists and turns I never could have seen coming. WARNING it was make you cry, laugh, smile, and fall apart. But it will also put you back together. I have never been able to pick a favorite out of this series because they all are so good but this one was definitely different from the rest in the best ways! | can't wait to read the next book and see what is in store for Coldin!
If I could have put life on pause and finished this in one day I would have!
Sylver Michaela has yet to disappoint, especially in this series! I knew I’d feel all the emotions in this one, just like in her previous books, but damn did this one bring the tears!
It was a breath of fresh air to have a demon fall in ove with a human “first” and not deny his feelings.
I'm always confident going into a new book by Sylver Michaela that it will be entertaining, fearsome, thrilling, and spicy, and The Devil and his Ghost delivered all this and more. I am 4 for 4 crying while reading a Sinners Do It Better book.
Kendyll can see and speak to ghosts which landed her a job with a paranormal show at an abandoned psychiatric hospital. She spends her time there looking to connect with the hidden ghosts with help from her ghost cat Catsper and a certain mischief demon Xander.
Xander is a member of the hot band Sinner Do It Better and loved to cause all kinds of trouble to feed his demon side. Him and Kendyll have some major history and he's trying to make up for mistakes of the past and prove to her that he wants to be with her through it all.
This book plays back and forth telling the story of their past as well as their current predicament. I love it because it felt like I was reading two stories at the same time. It built up for a tearful ending. You get to slowly understand Kendyll's trauma and her need to protect herself as you peel back each layer. It's hard to see her struggles at times but knowing Xander is there for her to help definitely relieves the pressure. She may act grumpy but really she's a softie deep down.
Besides the spice what really made this book exciting was the horror aspects. There were a couple of scenes that had my skin crawling. Sylver did a nice job flexing her horror chops in this book.
I definitely needed some tissues at the end of this book. It was a suspenseful read that had me wondering how things were going to turn out in the end. Trust the process. If you're looking for some demon/human romance, with Chinese food, quirky ghosts, evil villains, and lost souls, then The Devil and His Ghost is the book for you!
first of all thank youuuu soooooo much Sylver for this amazing arc. This is honestly one of my favorite series everrr and to have this arc in my hands , I was sooo excited. I absolutely loved Kendyll and Xander. I feel like they meshed together so well. Kendyll was my favorite fmc and this was such a fun but emotional read. Also, I was not expecting the twist in the end
I read this as an ARC 🙏🏼 This book was FANTASTIC! It had me hooked from beginning to end. Catsper was so so cute to read about. And the story of dual timelines between Xander and Kendylls love story was genius writing. This book had me giggling and kicking me feet and fanning myself cause it got hotttt 🙏🏼❤️🥵 5 star banger!!!
I received the ARC copy (i was so excited when I got the email) and when u tell u i sobbed like a baby towards the end. I'd say this is my fav book yet in the series Xander and Kendyll have my whole heart. And the ending couldn't have been more perfect.
This book hurts so good. Didn't expected that twist at the end. It is a stand alone so no need to read the others first but they will spoilers. If you are like won't care and will run to read The devil and his sparrow.
Giggling, crying. I really enjoyed this. I’m glad we finally got Xander’s story. Looking forward to book five! I’m not ready for this series to end yet 😭
ARC copy wow, wow, wow. This was so emotional and spooky and just so good. Dare I say it's my favorite in the series? Idk hard to say but love this so much
This book and this whole series has me gripping my seat from start to finish every time. I highly recommend this series and this book to everyone I come across. It’s an addictive series
