Queen Syla Moonmark is delighted that she’s won the game of captives, and the dragon rider Vorik—the man she loves—now stands at her side. But her troubles are far from over.
A usurper has the throne, assassins are on the hunt, and Syla still has to figure out how to keep the dangerous stormer tribes from taking over the Garden Kingdom.
To make matters worse, deep within a volcano, enemy dragons have gathered to perform a ritual that could not only threaten the future of the Kingdom but might destroy humanity altogether.
I really love her urban fantasy series, but this series/the romantasy genre under this author is just not it… ending felt very flat and rushed to me in particular.
Conclusion to Clutch and Claw saga, with thank goodness, more concentration on the adventure and less on the awkwardly staged sexual encounters. The dragons encounter and the Gods induced one in the Shielder cave, were more entertaining and naturally placed. A lot of loose ends were tied up in this last book; however, I feel that the door has been left open to further explore this domain, with possible adventures for other characters. I would certainly be happy to revisit the Gardeners and the Stormers and to fly with the Dragons - preferably without the forced and explicit sex scenes. Lindsay Buroker has already proved that she knows how to spin a good tale, to develop snarky, intelligent characters, sexual tension & encounter, adventure & fantasy, without descending to the explicit description of sex acts that interrupt and sit awkwardly within the text.
So, believing this series was only a trilogy, in my review of the last book, I was someone unhappy with the number of “issues“ that were left up in the air, despite the fact that it did end with an HEA of sorts. I owe Lindsay an apology and hope this counts as one! I cannot begin to describe just how excited and happy I was to see this book show up in Amazon‘s list of recommendations for me to read.
Lindsay truly delivers with this one! She takes the story in directions I couldn’t have even imagined she might. And the dialogue…! Good Lord! If you ever find yourself in a “battle of wits“ with Lindsay, run for your life! Where does she get these ideas? I can’t begin to imagine how she can craft such unbelievably witty and clever. dialogue. The back-and-forth between characters is just ridiculous in how well written and amusing it is.
As for plot points left hanging? Not a one gets left behind. Heck, she even brings to conclusion things that I had forgotten about from earlier in the storyline. And the wedding? Well let’s just say my favorite part was the surprise guest hiding under a table. But that’s all I’ll say on that point.
A fast paced, dragon filled and feisty human inhabited, superbly written series.
A number of storylines intertwine beautifully as the series progresses. Misunderstandings abound between people and dragons. Relationships become messy at many levels even between brothers.
Loads of action between armies, navies, wild animals on top of all the dragon fury, friendliness and fun banter.
Buroker is a fabulous storyteller and the characters in this series are magnificent. The personal development in them is excellently handled.
It is also a romance novel and this gets racier at times than I was expecting so be prepared. And there is magic which comes from the gods.
Hopefully Lindsay will regale us with more stories from this world.
Lindsay is a great writer and loves her quirky characters; she must have SO much fun coming up with bizarre and unique situations to embroil them in!
I for one, would love more books in this series!
While this book was tied up with a nice big bow, there are definite opportunities for this story to be expanded or a spinoff series. I am imagining Syla’s babies (need to have twin terrors of course! ;p) bonding with 2 of Wreylith’s hatchlings, Fel and Tibby continuing to enjoy each other’s company, Teyla bonding with Igliana, maybe even hooking up with Jhiton? Hmmm. The possibilities are endless!
This was a fun series to read and the characters were awesome. However, after a while, the series dragged on, and it started to feel like plots kept repeating (except for the last portion of this book where there seemed to be a dramatic change). This series might have been better with three books, so it wasn’t as extended. Toward the end you kind of just wanted it to be done already. I also wish Vorik would’ve remained on Syla’s side more often or ended up leaving his people sooner. Especially in this last book, I felt like he was too indecisive with what he wanted.
Although Death Before Dragons might be my favorite. The two main characters Syla and Vorick have an interesting evolving relationship fueled by their loyalties to their homeland and mutual attraction. The banter is witty and often humorous with a flavor of sarcasm and challenge. I really enjoyed the back and forth in their “enemies to lovers” storyline. I hope additional stories will be written about this realm and the other characters re-appear: Fel, Tibby, Teyla, and of course, the dragons!
I loved the Fire and Fang series. Syla and Vorik's challenging adventure to help their individual clans while holding on to their own relationship seemed an impossible obstacle. I was surprised at the end about how Syla handled the situation with Vorick's brother, Jhiton. I would like to see future stories about Syla's cousin, Teyla and her possible future quest to explore Droha on an archeological dig as well as the orange dragon, Igliana's future quests.
As always, Lindsay Buroker's writing skills and fertile imagination have combined to deliver an exciting, complex and, um, racy tale. Syla's path is fraught with an impressive array of obstacles, and her love for the man who should be her enemy doesn't make those obstacles any easier to overcome. Few books keep me awake late at night, (Hello, it is two in the morning!) or call to me to pick up my reader, this book does that, most insistently. Clutch and Claw can stand alone, but do yourself a favor and read the whole series.
Amazing, riveting, action packed, couldn't put it down!!
Lindsay Buroker hit it out of the park as usual, with the fire and fang series. Her character development always leaves you feeling like you are a part of the book. Her imagination and writing style is so unique, I never want to put her books down. It was a fantastic read....I hope she finds more adventures for Syla and Vorik!!
Again a series of books I couldn't put down by Lindsay Buroker. A fantasy world totally believable in my head. Lots of romance , love and sex. In my opinion sometimes the erotic scenes in the book can be a bit repetitive. But I've been totally absorbed and enraptured by the stories. Definitely a good read.
This is a deeply satisfying final book in the series. The author delivered sassy dialogue, wild adventures, heroic battles, and finally domestic bliss with her usual aplomb. As a reader, my only regret is not finding out how a queen deals with having sea life hurled at her!
I love a series that immerses you in their world. It was challenging and descriptive and kept you engaged. This characters were well found out, the plot line had enough curves and bumps to keep you interested and curious as to where everything is going. And I really enjoyed the writing and I can’t wait to read more.
Can't believe that this saga will not continue. Great writing as always.Yourr stories are amazing and hard to put down. I love all your series and I am on my way to find another one to start while you figure a way to rekindle your, our love afare with, oh I don't know maybe Teyla and Jhiton going off on an exploration somewhere?
This series has been so much fun to read! Love the attitudes of both dragons and humans its delightful and sassy just like in all Lindsay's books. Of course dragon fights arrested awesome and at times put me at the edge of my seat!
For some reason I hadn’t expected a fourth and final book, it made my entire day (and week and month, really) when this appeared in my recommended as a new release.
I loved this story and it's characters. My favorite author has never failed to give me a satisfying story. I'd love for her to return to this world for more adventures.
Lindsay Buroker doesn't disappoint. This series has been a very funny and entertaining read. I really loved the banter between all the characters, main and others. I really would like to read more about some of the other characters
I thoroughly enjoyed this final installment of dragons and Magic conflicting cultures. I always hate to come to the end of the series. Because I want it to continue. I wouldn’t mind hearing the story of the hatchlings and the next generation
Best book of the series! Very exciting and rewarding end to the series. I loved Syla’s and Vorick’s love story. Aunt Tibby and Fel were very interesting characters, too. I’d like to read about their ongoing stories. More content and less graphic sex, please.
The characters were wonderful, spunky and lovely. Would love to read about their adventures and the next generation as the young dragons and the Queens pregnancy develops.
Lindsay has done it again. I enjoyed this series so much. All the characters and how they developed in the story was fantastic. Keep the books coming. I recommend this author to everyone.
This was exactly what I was looking for ! Great dynamics, slow burn, lots of action ! I love Syla, Vorik, Wreylith, all of them! Even Jhiton! Such a great ending. 10/10 on this one
I love Lindsay Buroker’s world of dragons in her many books and this series did not disappoint! I’m sad that it’s come to an end but I’m hoping there are a few strands to new stories! Great series!!!
I don't usually do this, but I really am fond of your books. This set was particularly wonderful! It had everything I liked in it and was put all together in just the right way.
Of course I say that about all of them as you create characters that I really, really like then put them in interesting situations with realistic emotions, issues and consequences. Syla starts out as an improbable ruler heroine as a healer and Vorick as talented soldier. The growth and challenges, intrigue and humor, the life and death decisions make this series impossible to put down. Plenty of material for more!
I loved this - weirdly - given the endless battles - it’s a cosy read. Hopefully, we will hear more about the enigmatic General/brother - before too long.
