Everyone says "darling" in this and everyone acts like a stereotype Londoner, which made them unbelievable for me, even if they are suppose to be hotshot London people. A lot of characters just had no depth to them at all. Maybe that was the whole point, London media are empty people but does that mean you can make a good, interesting book filled with them? Well this book couldn't make it work.
And the great big secret, wow what a massive let down. It just made the main character even more unlikable and stupid for getting so worked up and feeling so guilty over it and not dealing with it sooner.
As for the love interests, none of them actually made me go "oooh, I really hope Maggie ends up with him". Maggie's boss acts like an incubbus, Maggie's ex is an alcoholic, and Maggie's new interest is an idiot. So don't expect any great romantic thrills from this book.
I also expected more conflict and tension between the bad friends that surrounded Maggie, but there was no scene where you could cut the stmosphere with a knife. It felt a bit damp her reaction to others and them to her.
Bad Friends is an absorbing suspense novel that will keep you wondering what might happen up until the very last few pages.
The plot is about a 30-year-old TV producer Maggie Warren is involved in a tragic coach crash,However, the crash affected her memory and she only has flimsy flashbacks of what happened before the accident. She also cannot recall why she split up with the love of her life, Alex, nor the reason why her boss is blackmailing her,and yet a young woman called Fay turns up claiming that Maggie saved her life, which she doesn't recognise at all.
Things started to go wrong for Maggie when she starts getting anonymous phone calls and texts, her personal things go missing, grafitti is sprayed all over her flat and she keep receiving bouquets of lilies – with messages of condolences.
When I started reading this book, the plot felt a little too busy and complex, but on reflection, all of the strands were necessary in order to build the tension. The pace and suspense build well so that by the end you are well and truly hooked. ;)
What I did like about this book was the growth of Maggie, from someone I really disliked to someone I could feel empathy for.I went from thinking she was a skin-deep,self-absorbed and completely bored ,to really thinking she had had a rough ride and rooting for her.
Bad Friends is a pretty easy-peasy read. At just under 400 pages.so read it and enjoy ......happy reading
This was okay, kept me turning the pages. I guessed the true villain early on but it didn't really spoil it for me. I got a bit cross with Maggie several times. I wanted to shake her and I found myself yelling (silently) 'Stop drinking so much.......you'll feel better!' Claire Seeber does write well though.
I genuinely did like this book. But I found it a bit hectic at times. At some points I had to re-read a paragraph just to make sense. But maybe that was the point because the main character is generally all over the place. But yes intriguing and sneaky ending!
I gave this book 2 our of 5 Sorry I did not like this book at all.
The repetitive nature of some of the areas of the book had me flipping over large areas of the book. I did not finish this book. sorry not my fav book.
This is the second Claire Seeber book I have attempted to read, and the second time I failed. I had this one sent all the way from a library in New York to Chicago, I needn't have wasted everybody's time and the postage.
Well, I was very disappointed with this book. Started off with a story, but I did not like the way it was written. I did not emphasise or take to the characters, and felt it was slow. I guessed who the stalker could be very early on, so I skim read to the end. How other people can think it was totally absorbing or an unnerving psychological thriller, as the book cover says, I don’t understand. My first Claire Seeber novel and probably my last.
I was really intrigued about this book when I bought it. But after reading a few pages, I was totally bored of how the characters were moving, especially that summer thingy that keeps me guessing what had happened. The only thing i liked the most in the book is Digby. Gosh poor dog!!!
My first by this author, slow to start and I almost gave up but on completion could see why it was done this way, all the threads joined up to create a suspense story that towards the end had me sitting on the edge of my seat! Maggie is a TV producer and following a row with her boyfriend who is verging on becoming an alcoholic she boards a coach to get get home and away from Alex. The coach has a devastating accident leaving Maggie injured and her memory affected and many dead.Eventually going back to work she finds her life in turmoil, her boss seems to have her over a barrel with something she had done prior to the accident and it seems her relationship with Alex is over. As she starts to move on she discovers someone doesn't like her much, graffiti appearing on her door, funeral flowers being sent to her and nasty text messages arriving. The suspense builds and you are left wondering which of the characters introduced is carrying out these threats, there is Alex her old boyfriend, Faye, a wanna be Maggie who seems to be everywhere, Joseph, the slightly weird junior in the office, Seb the potential new man in her life or someone else altogether. Well written thriller that had me up reading late at night and while I realised from fairly early on who dunnit ( and I wanted to be proved wrong) it didn't spoil the story for me.
Well this was my first book of Claire's that I'd read and it definitely won't be the last. I chose this book first as the cover really pique my interest, great cover.
It was a fantastic gripping story, was slightly sliw in places but not enough to put u off. I was pretty much on the edge of my seat gripped with it just waiting to see what would happen next. It had me guessing right to the very end. Very well written & well thought out characters.
Claire Seeber is my new favourite author! I read her first book, Lullaby, and loved it, so bought 2 more. This one kept me on the edge of my seat. I was going crazy! Who is it? Who is it? I even read while the tv was on, during commercials. Maggie is being stalked, bad things are happening to her. Is she going crazy? Read it. Loved it.
Wow is all I could say about this one. I did not know this was a psychological, suspenseful thriller. I kind of figured who it was before the ending, but the way it transpired is definitely a surprise. A great read. I don't recommend completing it alone at night. I, personally pray and hope not to have nightmares.
This book was ok. Did eep me wondering though it did flit for a second who it maybe but dismissed it. Worked out why she was being stalked what am surprised with iss how such a small incident in the summer became sonething that she would allow to be used against her
Not a bad book but a little slow and at times I found myself more interested in what had happened in the summer everyone kept alluding to than who was the stalker and although I had a general idea of who it was I did doubt myself a couple of times, definitely keeps up the suspense
