"One of the most exciting new series!" the area of the United States that received the brunt of the fallout from nuclear testing. As a result, humans developed cancers and congenital malformations… and so did the creatures in the River, the place where people with “the gift” see things others cannot. Deem and Winn share this gift, and they are asked to help a young woman stricken with a mysterious ailment. The cure lies in the ancient cliff dwellings of Plague Canyon, hidden on the private property of a zealous and paranoid owner. Warren, a rancher patrolling the canyon, shows an interest in Deem. She agrees to date him, hoping to manipulate him into letting her enter the ruins. Deem is surprised to find her interest in Warren becomes more than just a way into the canyon. Winn is with her every step of the way as they explore treacherous mines and corpse-filled caves. Meanwhile, Carma and Lyman are planning a secret retaliation, and Deem is about to find herself in the middle of a deadly confrontation with Council forces. The Graves of Plague Canyon is a fast-paced adventure with an unusual twist on the paranormal. It is the third book in The Downwinders series. Fans of The River series will find the unpredictable ghosts and mutations of the River even more frightening and terrifying in this place where surprises lurk around every corner, and deception is the order of the day.

THE GRAVES OF PLAGUE CANYON is the third book in the Downwinders series. This one concerns Winn, Deem, and Carma dealing with several interconnected plots. Deem also begins to "mature" as an individual, and is being seen more for her personal merits than merely as part of a team.
The story goes through some major twists and turns, which all manage to come together in the end. Richan's ability to balance multiple plots simultaneously, while still leaving the reader completely conned cted to the central focus is amazing. Steven and Roy also make a brief "phone" appearance, which long-time fans of THE RIVER series will appreciate.
A couple of new characters are introduced that will undoubtedly be continuing on in future Downwinders' books. This particular story struck me as one that readers would get the most out of after reading the previous two books in the series. While the story itself stands on its own, there are quite a few details regarding past occurrences that are referenced. Readers not familiar with some of these may not fully appreciate the intricacies and reasons behind some of the current happenings.
Overall, another great addition to THE RIVER-DOWNWINDERS' series.
This is the 3rd book in the Downwinder series. The story revolves around Winn, Deem and Carma. Carma ask Winn and Deem if they could help her niece. It seems that her niece has falling into this strange comma like state. Winn and Deem are told that the cure lies in the cliff dwellings of Plague Canyon. The canyon is tightly guarded, making it just about impossible to enter the caves below. Deem meets Warren on one of her trips to the canyon. Warren is one of the men who patrols the canyon. Warren ask Deem out on a date and she says yes! At first she just wanted to manipulate Warren, so that he would let her enter the cliff dwellings and get the cure. Deem realized that Warren is not like most men that she had gone out with and she like that. Winn and Deem somehow make it to the caves to look for the cure but what they find there is a terrifying nightmare. This was a fast pace adventure, with some paranormal twists in it.
Great edition to The Downwinders. In this installment of The Downwinders series Deem and Winn are in pursuit of a special magical element to save the life of Carma's niece. Of course things downwind aren't ever as easy as 1,2,3. They have a few goose flesh inducing moments and also make some new friends along the way. Michael Richan is a wonderful story teller. I can't get enough!
The latest book in the "Downwinders" series is a winner! What seems at first like a simple plot line, becomes very complicated very quickly. It's fun to see the Deem and Winn's universe unfold, and I'm quite excited to see more. This series just gets better with each book, and can't wait until the next one! As an aside, I keep feeling that this series would make a terrific tv show!
