When an ordinary day at his construction job turns into a bloodbath, Grant Ross’ life is changed forever. After killing a man in self-defense, Grant is thrust into a world he never knew existed: a world of power, money and death.
A meeting in a dimly lit nightclub with Marco, head of the Grabano crime family, seals Grant’s fate. Struggling to find a balance between life as a college student and his lucrative new job as an enforcer for the Philly mob, Grant eventually has to make a choice and he knows he’s in too deep to walk away from the mafia.
Grant gets in even deeper when he meets Miranda Grabano. They have a connection, but she’s the boss’ daughter and off limits. As he navigates his way through the criminal underworld and into Miranda’s heart, life gets more challenging after his sister moves to Philadelphia to attend school. Grant has always looked out for Natalie and practically raised her. Now that she’s in the city he does everything he can to keep her away from the truth and shield her from the violence that surrounds him, but at what cost? A snap decision is made and Grant realizes too late that he may have opened the door to Natalie sharing his fate.

Enforcer: Prequel Novella (The New Mafia #0.5) By: E.J. Fechenda 5/5 stars
If you’ve not started the New Mafia Trilogy, then START with this prequel novella!!
Finally we get more GRANT!!! Grant Ross is Natalie’s brother (h from the New Mafia Trilogy) and though we know the gist of his back story of how he came to work for the South Philly Grabano Crime Family. But this gets into his gritty details. We witness the scene, the fight, the action that got him the invitation into the family business. Grant’s life course was imminently changed that day.
As a new enforcer for Marco Grabano and the Philly Mob, Grant had to eventually make the decision that there was no turning back from his new life, without fear of death, and dropped out of college. He goes deeper into the family when he falls for the boss’s off-limits daughter, Miranda Grabano.
Grant’s life is further complicated when his sister Natalie moves to Philly for college because he absolutely wants to keep her away from that part of his life. He wants her to have the future that he gave up and he doesn’t want her to know what it is he actually does to earn his money.
This novella leaves off pretty much where book 1, The Beautiful People, starts. I can’t wait for the final book (book 3) in this series!!
This was surprisingly good. I only started reading it because it was available and I was about to begin Natalie's story but I must say that Grant had me captivated and interested to see the turn of events and how he inconspicuously advanced through the seasons/years.
He is an enforcer through and through and Marco obviously doesn't play around when it comes to his mob. They are much more loose with their principles because he obviously has no problems allowing his daughter to date for love and they actually put their members through the paces regardless of their relations.
I don't know what to expect from Dom but I am glad to see his vulnerabilities because something tells me that it probably won't be present when his series begin.
I am interested to know more about this group of people and I don't think I will be disappointed.
