One small town. A love that never faded. And deadly secrets that lurk beneath the surface.
Maggie Sinclair didn’t think she’d ever return to Deep River. The town held too many memories—of her mother’s death, her aunt’s cruelty, and of Ethan Moore, the man she once loved. The man she ran from. But when life in LA begins to feel unsafe, she retreats back to the small town she knows. The same place where Ethan’s also returned. And he’s more of everything she remembers—stronger, more protective, and even easier to fall for all over again.
Former Navy SEAL Ethan Moore is home. But Deep River isn’t the town he once knew. People have started going missing—women, specifically. Some tourists, some local. And when the sheriff can’t be bothered to keep their town safe, the mayor—with help from an anonymous benefactor—hires Ethan and his friends to create an elite search and rescue team. That should be his only focus. But the moment he sets eyes on Maggie Sinclair, the woman who broke him years ago, old wounds reopen, and his heart starts to remember what his mind tried to forget.
Ethan never stopped loving Maggie. But he’s not the only one with eyes on her. Danger followed her to Deep River. As a threat closes in, Ethan will do whatever it takes to protect her. Because he’s not just fighting an invisible threat—he’s fighting for a second chance at forever.
Australian Romantic Suspense Author, Nyssa Kathryn, is a passionate reader and writer of all things romance. Living in South Australia with her hubby and daughter, when she's not spending time with the family, she's either plotting her next story or got her head stuck in a book.
Whispers In The Water is the first book in a new small town series by Nyssa Kathryn. Nyssa was a new-to-me author, so I had no idea what to expect going into this book, but I was blown away by her writing.
It’s been years since Maggie walked out of Ethan’s life, but after several women have gone missing in Deep River, Ethan and his team are tasked with figuring out what is going on and protecting the town with their Navy Seal experience. It’s inevitable that Ethan and Maggie cross paths and when they do, all of those feelings they had for each other are still there and even more intense now. After years of dealing with the emotional abuse from her aunt, Maggie’s confidence is low but Ethan refuses to let her walk out of his life again and he is ready to do whatever he needs to in order to prove to her she is worthy.
I really enjoyed this one. The prologue gutted me but only left me more invested in Ethan and Maggie’s journey to happily ever after. Maggie’s character growth was such a joy to read and Ethan will all of his protectiveness had me swooning more than once. The suspense element just added another layer of depth to this story and I liked it a lot. I am looking forward to visiting Deep River again for the next book!
Whispers in the Water is narrated in duet by CJ Bloom and Walker Williams. They both did a wonderful job bringing this story to life. CJ captured Maggie’s self-doubt and insecurities in such a raw and touching way. Walker did a wonderful job bringing Ethan’s protective nature to life. Both narrators also voiced the other characters so well with their own unique voices, making it easy to tell what character was speaking while listening along.
New series, new small town, new mystery. I was so excited to start this new series, and it did not disappoint. We met Ethan Moore in Unfinished, and I have to say I was excited to see how his story unfolds. He is returning to Deep River to start a search and rescue team after hearing about women disappearing with no explanation and a mysterious benefactor paying for them to assist the local sheriff, who is doing basically nothing. What he doesn’t expect is his former girlfriend, who broke up with him abruptly years ago, to make her way back to town too. Maggie is carrying some serious baggage, and she has been in love with Ethan this whole time but never felt worthy. Now that they are back in the same town, they have to navigate their feelings and maybe finally address the issues that drove them apart, all while trying to figure out why women are going missing and possibly even figure out the circumstances around her mother’s death.
This book packs a punch. You have OW drama, a mysterious stalker, women who are disappearing, a small-town sheriff who is completely incompetent, and a group of hot seals who move to town to help. What’s great about this start to a new series is that it sets up a lot of threads that foreshadow what might be in future installments while also introducing us to Deep River and its small-town charm.
I listened to this on audio, and it delivered on all levels. It’s narrated by CJ Bloom, who brought so much depth and emotion to Maggie. Ethan is narrated by Walker Williams, and his voice is the perfect compliment to Ethan’s longing but protector vibes. Great listen and solid start to a new series.
Whispers in the Water is the first book in Nyssa Kathryn's new series Deep River. Ethan Moore and Maggie Sinclair have been in love forever. A big part of it, eleven years, they have been apart after Maggie broke up with him, Neither has ever forgotten or gotten over the other. Now they are both back in Deep River. Ethan is back to start a security company and Maggie is back because of a stalker. Now both are hoping to get back with the other. Ethan has been asked to form a SAR, search and rescue, team to locate women who have gone missing. His former seal team members come and join him for this job. I loved this book as I do all Nyssa Kathryn's books. She does a superb job with her characters, even the evil ones. Her books flow smoothly and by the time you get through the first few chapters you are rooting for Evan to get the girl, the stalker and the missing women.
I received an advance review copy for a voluntary review.
I love me a good second chance romance! Ethan never gave up on Maggie…..11 years after losing her and he still looks at her like she was the only woman in the world. We all need an Ethan in our life!
I just have so many questions though!! Who is the one taking all these women? Why is Jerome Ward and his good for nothing dad so weird? Are they behind it? And will Polly ever give Joel a chance? I need answers!
CJ Bloom and Walker Williams did a phenomenal job bring Maggie and Ethan’s love story to our ears. The way they carried each emotion to full perfection was incredible. I felt it all!
I am so thrilled that Nyssa Kathryn is gifting us with another series. She is incredibly good at creating new worlds and populating them with interesting characters. Whispers in the Water introduces us to the town of Deep River. We meet Maggie and Ethan and a cast of characters whose stories are waiting to be told. I can't wait.
