This modern-day tale is a Cinderella story.

Cyndi wants it all—the love, the romance, the white picket fence, and someday children. When the new Channel Nine Anchorman shows up at her station, Cyndi sets her sights on her old high school crush, Maxwell Harrington. Of course, he doesn’t remember her, but thanks to the Internet, Cyndi is armed and ready to make him her boyfriend—an easy no-fail method “Ten Ways to Win a Man”.

Damien knows Max plays fast and loose, and Damien refuses to let Cyndi’s heart be broken again. He offers to help her. He wants to get closer to Cyndi and show her the wonderful woman he knows she is… and yes, he wants to win her heart.

But which man will Cyndi want? It’s easy to lose track of who is wrong or right.

Pretty cute book. It does bug me though when people won't listen to the other person and just jumps to conclusions.

Rating: 3-3.5 stars.

I have read several of Ms Higgins' historical romances and I have enjoyed them immensely. This book was my first contemporary romance by this author. It was a quick, fun story. I liked it more as the story unfolded. Some parts in the early part of the book were a little unrealistic for my liking.

After a string of short, disastrous relationships, Charlene (Charley) Randall was determined to find herself a man who would accept her as she was and commit to marriage. With the help of a "How to win your man" manual, she set out to capture the attention of an old crush from high school, Maxwell (Max) Harrington. Max had recently started working at the same television news studio as Charley. Taking the manual's advice literally, and with the help of her flirtatious and suave neighbour Damien Giovanni, she attempted to capture Max's attention. Disaster often unfolded. As she became better acquainted with Damien, she realized that she preferred to spend more time with him than with Max. However, she was afraid to let herself become attached to Damien, a man who she believed changed his girlfriends as frequently as his perfectly styled clothes. How could she trust such a man with her heart? How could such a man commit himself to one woman?

Some of Charley's behaviour (as she tried to capture Max's attention), seemed a little immature for her age, but like most fairy tale inspired stories, they are meant to entertain, not necessarily be believed. I thought Damien was a much more appealing man than Max. Which woman could resist a gorgeous, intelligent guy, who was not gay, but could style her hair, apply her makeup, pick out the perfect dress for her and make her look like a million dollars?!

There were some sweet, tender moments between Charley and the man of her (ultimate) choice, which had me sighing and wanting more.... No doubt I'll be reading another one of Ms Higgins' books before the next week is over!

Really cute. I wanted to bash their heads together a few times and say "look what's in front of your nose Charley!" (But then again, his "reputation" wasn't all that stellar either.) And "tell her how you feel!" But cute and very entertaining. Some pretty funny mistakes only Charley's side, and Damien sounds like a hot tamale train.

Really makes me want to read the LDS version of it. Winning Mr. Wrong.

Moral Note: Talk about being a player, cheating, a couple gets caught in a compromising position (not graphic). No language that I remember.

I have read this before. I did not realize it was the same book with a different cover and picture. However, it was just as good the second time.

I read and loved this book (the edition with the female protagonist called Cyndi, not Charley).
I love a good rom-com. Clutzy woman. Smooth man. The friendship blooms into romance. It's the best of quick, fun reads! I didn't want to put it down until I found out how it could all work out!

I have issues with this book. It starts off nicely; Cynthia "Cindy" Randall is relatable and sweet, and it's unknown why she can't seem to get a boyfriend to stay. Her neighbor, Damien, is a thorn in her side and such a womanizer that she rarely wants to talk to him. Then her old crush, Max, comes back into her life, and she's determined to win him. So far, so good. But it goes downhill from there.
For starters, Damien IS a womanizer. And trying to make it out like he suddenly wants to settle down is unrealistic. If he does want that, then give me more context. It felt too drastic a switch. And all of a sudden, he's sweet, understanding, and helpful towards Cynthia? Nah, he just wants to win her heart, and he'll do anything to do that. It seemed more like a ploy than real love.
But Cynthia laps it up! And suddenly she's head over heels without regarding the consequences. Not to mention, Damien has some skeletons in his closet that he never shared with her, which was a BIG mistake. Not to mention, he commits some sabotage in the book which strikes some major red flags in my head. But Cynthia never really finds out, and just kinda disregards it. They are supposed to be a dream couple, but I'm seeing too many issues here.
Overall, it was a good idea (womanizer wants to settle down, ends up liking his neighbor more than he thought, and the girl just wants some help to win back her crush) but it fell flat on its face with serious issues.
Also, some of the phrases in this book are downright painful to read. Let's be real, here, this ends up being so cheesy and annoying by the end that I ended up taking it off my Kindle.
