M.Q. Qureshi is a builder of new worlds—both digital and literary. As a technology executive, he has spent his career launching startups and shaping the future of autonomous mobility. But as a storyteller, his roots are deeply grounded in the past.

Born in Kenya and raised across East and Southern Africa, MQ’s worldview was forged in British schools and on travels that have spanned from the markets of Jerusalem to the coast of Cartagena. This global upbringing inspired him to revive the aesthetic of the "gentleman investigator"—a vision fully realized in the character of Colonel Khan.

The Colonel’s debut was over a decade in the making, finally written during an extremely difficult chapter in MQ’s life. He often remarks that when the days were darkest, the joy he found on the page, and in the discipline of bringing this mystery to life, led to himself inadvertently becoming the first person Colonel Khan saved.

MQ resides in the northern suburbs of Chicago with his wife, Aasma, and their two children, Zoya and Deen.

Colonel Khan & The Mystery of the Falcon Feather by M.Q. Qureshi (ARC)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I want to start by saying I really did enjoy this book. The mystery and “whodunnit” element was genuinely well done, and even though I had a suspicion early on about who was responsible, the way everything unfolded was still engaging and satisfying.

The writing is incredibly descriptive, at times beautifully so, and it really allowed me to feel immersed in the story and the investigation. That said, there were moments where it felt a bit too indulgent. Certain descriptions (especially around food or setting) went on longer than necessary and slowed the pacing, even if I can now appreciate that some of those details had more relevance than I initially realised.

At the beginning, I did struggle slightly with keeping track of all the characters and where they fit into the story. It felt a bit overwhelming at first, but once everything settled, it became much easier to follow.

My biggest issue was the pacing. Around the halfway mark, it felt like not much had actually progressed in the plot, which made it feel a bit like a task to get through at times… especially because the core mystery itself is so interesting. The frequent recap style dialogue also stood out to me. While helpful, it happened a little too often, and I think the story could have trusted the reader more to keep up.

That being said, the second half of the book really picks up. As the mystery deepens, the tension builds, and Colonel Khan truly comes into his own. He has a very Sherlock Holmes like quality, and his deductions added an intricate, almost intellectual suspense that I really enjoyed.

Overall, this was a strong and enjoyable read. Despite some pacing issues, the compelling mystery and immersive writing made it worth it.

Thank you to the Author and Publishers for an ARC of this book!

Wow! This story was captivating right from the start. The Colonel was such a good detective, I couldn’t stop reading to see what he would notice next.

All of the detail in the story was invigorating. The author’s writing style is one where you feel transposed right into the story. It was so descriptive that you could see and feel, and sometimes even smell what was happening (especially during the cooking scenes).

Some parts of the story I predicted, but there were so many twists and turns that I was drawn in all the way until the end. I can’t wait to read the second story in this series. Bravo!!

Colonel Khan & the Mystery of the Falcon Feather is a confident and engaging mystery that draws you in with its atmosphere, character work, and a strong sense of place.

From the outset, the novel introduces a wide cast of characters in a lively, social setting. At first, this can feel a little overwhelming as there are many names, personalities, and relationships to keep track of. But as the story settles, those early introductions begin to pay off. The characters become more distinct, their dynamics clearer, and the initial density gives way to a richer, more immersive experience.

At the centre of it all is Colonel Khan, a calm, perceptive, and quietly compelling protagonist. His approach to investigation feels natural and grounded, relying as much on observation and intuition as on direct questioning. He’s a character who invites the reader to think alongside him rather than simply follow his lead.

The writing shines in its ability to create atmosphere. There’s a warmth and texture to the world, through dialogue, cultural detail, and moments of humour that balances the underlying tension of the mystery. The pacing is measured, allowing the story to unfold organically and keeping the intrigue steady without forcing dramatic twist. Each chapter adds clarity while simultaneously introducing new ambiguity.

What stands out most is the subtlety. It doesn’t rush to explain itself, instead trusting the reader to pick up on details and connections as they emerge. This makes the experience feel more interactive, rewarding attention without becoming confusing.

Overall, this is a thoughtfully constructed mystery that may take a few chapters to fully settle into, but once it does, it offers a satisfying and immersive read. Ideal for readers who enjoy character-driven stories, layered setups, and a detective who solves problems with quiet precision rather than spectacle.

Thank you to the author for the ARC copy ahead of release 🖤

I must say, M. Q. Qureshi's Colonel Khan & the Mystery of the Falcon is a magnificent book! The story inside the book owns up to the cover. The cover is just as beautiful as the detailed illustrations inside the book.

About the book. I absolutely enjoyed the story of Colonel Khan. Khan is quite a character, I must say. Not only is he as handsome as a "silver fox" but he's charming, and intelligent. Khan also has a keen eye for catching clues across a crowded room, even when there's nothing to catch... at first.

So, I tell the readers about Colonel Khan and the fact I couldn't put the book down.

I wanted to know who was responsible for the murders and was unaware of several twists! The surprising twists of the murders and Colonel Khan's keen eye for poisoned blood in the bones of thieves lurking to rob what doesn't belong to them. Everyone in the story worked hard, even the thieves.

So, the murders took place, Khan's keen eye stirred him into action of connecting the dots. I'd say M. Q. Querish is a brilliant genius of a writer, just like the character Khan, in putting plots together, connecting the dots, a knife for blood and greed.

The book is one of those mysteries where you start to suspect everyone in the room, even the people who weren't there... you'd be surprised. The story unfolds to many plot twists and surprises, all connecting to one thing, and one man only, the falcon feather, and the owner of The Falcon Feather.

M. Q. Qureshi's book Colonel Khan & the Mystery of the Falcon Feather is certainly just that a mind-blogging mystery. Every page is a turner and hunger filled with shocking secrets, lies, deception, hate, and mostly greed. But was it all worth it? I suggest mystery readers explore for themselves. The book deserves more than five star reviews.

Colonel Khan & the Mystery of the Falcon Feather by M.Q. Qureshi

Set against a cold and atmospheric Chicago backdrop, this story follows Colonel Khan—a refined, sharp-witted retired intelligence officer—as he unravels a layered mystery tied to a symbolic silver falcon feather pendant.
What really stood out to me was the classic detective feel combined with a fresh cultural lens. The South Asian diaspora elements add warmth and depth to the story, especially through the sensory details—food, music, and setting—which make the world feel vivid and immersive.
Colonel Khan is easily the highlight of the book. He has that calm, observant, almost Sherlock-like presence that makes you trust his every move, and it’s genuinely engaging to follow his deductions as the mystery unfolds.
The story leans into a slower, more descriptive style, which builds a rich atmosphere, though at times it can slightly affect the pacing. That said, as the plot progresses, the tension picks up and the twists begin to land more strongly, making the second half especially engaging.
Overall, this is an enjoyable and promising start to a detective series, with a compelling lead and a mystery that keeps you curious. Definitely one to pick up if you enjoy classic whodunits with a modern cultural touch.
✨ Recommended for: • Fans of traditional detective fiction
• Slow-burn mysteries with strong atmosphere

Looking forward to seeing where Colonel Khan goes next 👀

i received an advanced reader copy of this book, and from beginning to end it kept me completely hooked.

this is a dramatic, twist-heavy mystery that blends family secrets, betrayal, power, obsession, and murder into a story that feels both intense and addictive. the pacing kept pulling me forward, and each new revelation made me want to keep reading just one more chapter. what really stood out to me was how layered the plot felt — every answer seemed to uncover something deeper underneath it.

the emotional side of the story was just as gripping as the mystery itself. beneath all the suspense, this is also a story about control, identity, grief, and the lasting damage of hidden truths. i thought the book handled those darker family dynamics in a way that made the stakes feel very personal.

i also really enjoyed the atmosphere and the dramatic style of the storytelling. it feels cinematic, with vivid scenes and big confrontations, but still keeps the mystery at the center. fans of character-driven suspense, family drama, and books full of secrets and shocking reveals will have a lot to enjoy here.

overall, this was an absorbing and entertaining read that i think mystery and thriller readers will have a lot of fun with. i’m very glad i got the chance to read it early.

This book pulls you in from the very start! Not only is the writing excellent but the character building is phenomenal.

The author made me care about these characters and absolutely love them, especially Colonel Khan! He was intense in his work but lovable, charming, and so observant. He remind me of a Sherlock Homes or a Player/Carmen SanDiego type character (on that I really enjoy). And his sharpness was nicely completed with Enzo Rossi’s more layer back humerus vide.

The natural of a murder mystery book is usually completely chilling, which this book was, but it also had a comforting sort of feel that I can’t feel but most definitely felt. But that isn’t to say there wasn’t a creepy element because there was! I would be lying if I said I never got chills or stay up later a bit scared thinking about this book.

With most mystery books you can predict the ending and usually get it right but with this one I had was completely shocked when it was revealed. I think it shows real talent when an author can write a mystery so well the ending is hard to predict, and one that makes the reader need a second book asap (please get on that lol).

Overall this was a really good mystery read with fabulous writing and even better characters!

Hooked from the very first page, this story delivers a captivating and immersive reading experience. The Colonel shines as a sharp, compelling detective. Every observation pulling you deeper into the mystery and making it impossible to stop turning the pages.

The author’s writing is richly descriptive, bringing the story vividly to life. Every scene feels tangible you don’t just read it, you experience it. From the atmosphere to the smallest details, the sensory depth adds a unique layer that makes the world feel real and lived-in. And as a chai tea lover, I was thrilled to see it mentioned in the story—it added such a cozy, personal touch.

While I was able to anticipate a few moments, the twists and turns kept me fully engaged all the way through. Just when I thought I had it figured out, the story shifted in ways that kept things fresh and exciting.
I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series—this one was a truly satisfying read.

Thank you to the author for the eARC, this is my honest review.

If Colonel Khan does not nothing else, he will get to the bottom of a situation, look dapper while doing so, and he might chef up a mean steak along the way. What starts off as friendly-favor ends up becoming a murder case that Colonel Khan has the skillset and intellect to solve. Qureshi takes you on a journey to put the pieces together in this fun who-dun-it all while incorporating cultural practices and cuisine. (And, yes, I have saved those recipes). Navigating through evidence, family secrets, and the Chicago winter weather, you learn just what someone wanted to keep hidden and the lengths they were willing to go to do it. I really enjoyed becoming enmeshed in the world Qureshi built and learning the values that their culture holds near and dear. I can’t wait for the next case Colonel Khan takes on.

Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC of this book!

"Colony Khan and the Mystery of the Falcon Feather" is a mystery crime novel centered around a double murder investigation, with Colony Khan playing a key role in helping uncover the truth.

I really enjoyed the overall atmosphere of the story—it gave me strong Agatha Christie / Poirot vibes, especially in the way the mystery was built and revealed. The pacing was steady, making it easy to follow while still keeping my interest throughout.

One of my favorite aspects of the book was the rich descriptions, especially when it came to food. The inclusion of Asian, Indian, and Arabian cuisine added a unique and immersive layer to the story.

While the plot twist wasn’t extremely shocking, it fit well within the story and added a nice touch to the overall mystery.

Overall, this was an enjoyable and cozy mystery read that I would recommend to fans of classic detective-style.

A fresh, hilarious Chicago mystery—so excited for this launch!

I had the pleasure of meeting the author at a local open mic night and was lucky enough to snag a signed copy of Colonel Khan and the Mystery of the Falcon Feather. Just from hearing the premise, I was hooked—a funny, fresh twist on a murder mystery set right here in Chicago is exactly what my bookshelf needs.

There is nothing quite like a mystery that doesn't take itself too seriously, and the author’s passion for this story is contagious. I’m already looking forward to seeing how Colonel Khan handles the chaos and where the mystery of the falcon feather leads. I’ll be back to update once I’ve turned the last page, but the buzz for this April 25th release is definitely well-deserved. I can’t wait to dive in!

My wife bought a copy, but I ended up reading it first. An amazingly well written south asian themed mystery thriller set in the streets of Chicago. Hooked from the first page, could not put the book down...a very easy read that keeps you guessing till the end and leaves you hungry for more. Colonel Khan is an amazing character, cultured, charming, sincere and stylish...a man that commands respect in every way, someone you get to trust from the start! There is so much this book has to offer, culture, music, wit are just the beginning...the author has an interesting way to keep you engaged. I learned so much, the recipes OMG, tried and tested, the man has good taste! The illustrations are a plus and help bring it all together. An excellent effort, can't wait for more...

This book was truly a treat to read. I loved the characters and how they were so articulated. I also loved the food elements and Khan’s entire personality was so interesting. The investigation and mystery was full of twists and turns. The end was definitely a shock. The plot was so unique and well written, and all the pieces were thoroughly explained and ironed out. The culture aspect of this book was also a really interesting addition. I would definetly recommend this book for those looking for a twisty turny mystery with a few extra fun elements. A huge thank you to MQ Qureshi and his team for reaching out and allowing me to arc read this! I’m excited for what’s to come in Colonel Khan’s adventures!

Set against the shadowed streets of Chicago, this story pulled me in with its sharp wit, layered secrets, and a protagonist who sees what others miss. Colonel Khan is the kind of character that doesn’t need the spotlight—he is the moment.
Two deaths.
One falcon feather.
And a truth buried beneath power, control, and hidden identities.
But what truly surprised me?
The way this story feeds you—through rich culture, unforgettable dialogue, and scenes that feel as indulgent as they are haunting.
This isn’t just a murder mystery…
it’s a slow-burn experience that stays with you long after the final page.

The book, in my opinion, was way too fast paced. I feel like the main character figured it out way too fast. There wasn’t really something that kept my attention. I get that the character is really smart and that he gets things done quickly, but I also feel like, the fact that it’s so easy for him didn’t keep my attention.
It could also have been that I just didn’t get into the story, I’m not much of a thriller reader, so it could have been just that.
The story in itself is really good, the plot was very good.

(SPOILER FREE ZONE) This is, I understand, the first book in a series of possibly many such romps and hurrah for that. This brisk take on the modern big-city detective leans into classic adventures with tongue firmly in cheek. The Colonel is a wonderfully old-school chap, combining traits such as strategist and sceptic to excellent effect. This read will provide you with the pleasure of the chase, misdirection, twists and turns and a stylish comic charm that blends perfectly with the exotic nature of the storyline.

This story held my attention from the very first page. There is nothing like a good mystery to start things off and when there is a detective attached to the case where his reputation proceeds him. The authors writing was amazing and I enjoyed the way it kept me wanting to know what else happens. I enjoy an author that makes you feel as if you are a part of the story and he did just that. There were twist and turns that I enjoyed and helped keep the story flowing and the reader wanting more. I can not wait to see what book 2 has in stores for us.

Thank you to the publisher and the author for the ARC copy ahead of release.

Colonel Khan is a fantastic new lead impeccably poised, sharp witted, and lethal when he needs to be. The way MQ Qureshi weaves together the magnificent glitz of Chicago with the cultural richness of Devon Avenue is seamless.

I loved the sensory details, from the soulful Qawwali music to the steaming chai that provides a warm contrast to the biting Chicago winter.

It's an atmospheric, intelligent Chicago noir that respects the reader's intellect. Perfect for fans of classic whodunits who are looking for a story with a lot of soul and a very cool, commanding protagonist.

4.5/5 Stars. I can't wait to see what Colonel Khan tackles next!
