Sydney, New South Wales. Birdie Vaughn is a foster child, she's just turned eighteen and finished year twelve, been accepted into university to study midwifery and planning her escape for years. Before the first term starts Birdie wants to find her brother Marty and the only clue she has is an envelope and it was posted from Featherwood.
Natasha Yarrington is scientist and the Department of Primary Industries has sent her to Featherwood to find out why the bees in the area have survived and others all along the coast have died. Isaac Stevens is a self-sufficient recluse who has a property at Hidden Valley, he keeps to himself and takes care of his bees in hives he designed.
Molly Rogan is newly married to Richard, and she’s having her first baby at forty three, she’s a beekeeper and runs a B & B. Natasha books into stay, a very pregnant Molly loves hosting guests and cooking and Richard and Tash are both wine enthusiasts.
The story is told from Birdie, Natasha and Molly’s points of view and in Featherwood, a little country town and in the last two years has been through floods, dust storms and bushfires.
I received a copy of The Featherwood Beekeeper by Fiona McArthur from NetGalley and Penguin Random House Australia in exchange for an honest review. The narrative explores a variety of topics such as bees, how important they are to the environment, keeping them and producing honey. Having the courage to find a lost family member and stop hiding after a tragic loss, three of the characters did this, and older women being pregnant. Many women have babies over the age of forty, I am one of them and I still remember being slightly insulted my paperwork had geriatric pregnancy written all over it.
Molly was my favourite character, in the last month I can relate to being the size of a house, told to keep off my feet, rest and my husband had the never ending task of feeding me.
Ms McArthur writes stories about small rural Aussie towns, community spirit, friendship, helping others, giving them a hand up as not everyone has had an easy life, and found families. I felt the warmth, love, connection, and was happy with the conclusion. I highly recommend and five stars.

She'd been determined to find him; now she was of age, she headed to the last place that Marty had been, hoping he was still there. When the van broke down along the highway, the fortuitous arrival of a friendly young woman heading to the same place, saw Birdie and Natasha arrive safely in the town. After the motorhome was brought to Featherwood, Birdie - and Natasha - could begin what they came for.
Natasha was a scientist whose focus was the bees, their decimation by the varroa mite up and down the east coast of Australia a worry to all. There was an off-grid beekeeper in the Hidden Valley not far from Featherwood and his bees were thriving. Natasha was there to find out why. Staying in town with Molly & Richard in their small cottage was an eye opener. Molly was pregnant, a wonderful cook and friendly. Birdie was safely ensconced in a free camping area in town. What was the future for these two young women who had quickly become friends?
The Featherwood Beekeeper is another exceptional novel by Aussie author Fiona McArthur which I thoroughly enjoyed. Fiona writes heartwarming stories, often wrapped around midwifery (she's one herself), with intrigue and mystery surrounding the characters until the satisfying conclusion. I received quite a shock at one of the reveals! Lovely! Highly recommended.

What I loved about this book was the found family trope. I did enjoy the romance, but the found family is what I connected to. Birdie was the character I connected to the most. She was resilient and determined to find her brother.
Fiona, I would love a sequel to this book and see how their life journeys progress.

It’s also that time of the year where a warm and inviting Fiona McArthur tale enters the book universe.
Let’s return to Featherwood, a small community town brimming with friendly people and country spirit.

This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I think I’ve found another rural romance favourite. Although this story clearly follows on from previous books, it was artfully crafted so that I didn’t feel like I had needed to read them to follow the story. (It did make me feel that I might go back and check those earlier books out later though).
Our two main characters, Birdie and Natasha, travel from Sydney to the small country town of Featherwood looking for different things … but on their first day they find each other. Other characters are introduced along the way and what we find is a close knit community who embrace and support these visitors as only country people can.
There’s intrigue, a mystery or two, and a steamy romance with a mysterious reclusive beekeeper that builds nicely as the story unfolds. If you’re into bees, there’s lots to keep you happy as we also learn a lot about them along the way. All in all a lovely introduction to this author - recommended if you love rural romance.

Fiona McArthur has taken me back to Featherwood one of my favourite places to visit catching up with the friends I already knew was awesome but meeting the newcomers to the small town was magical, I loved this one so much came for a trip to Featherwood to meet everyone.
Birdie Vaughan has just turned eighteen and has been living in foster care for twelve years, she has just finished school and is all set to attend university in the new year studying to be a midwife but first she needs to find her brother Marty she has just received a birthday card from him no address but is was posted in a town called Featherwood, so with her little campervan the one she saved for she is off on an adventure.
Natasha Yarrington is bee scientist and is setting out to discover why the bee hives around Featherwood are surviving so well when around the rest of the state they are not doing so well. She is going to visit a property Hidden Valley where the owner, Isaac Stevens lives totally off-grid but his hives are thriving and Natasha is determined to find out why.
Molly Rogan is newly married and very pregnant and at forty three she is thrilled, Molly loves people and cooking and has a real knack for helping people, she runs a small B&B and when a young woman is sent her way to rent it for a few days Molly is thrilled to have Natasha stay, a friendship grows and Natasha and her husband Richard have a real love of wines.
The story comes from the point of view of Birdie, Molly, Natasha and Isaac as we see all four people discover things that will change their lives, Will Birdie find Marty, what will Natasha finally discover is a way that is a shock and Isaac will he finally be able to put the past behind him and Molly her love of people will bring her such joy with these newcomers to town.
MS. McArthur has also researched bees so well and I learnt a lot about beekeeping, so much I didn’t know.
Oh I loved this one so very much I think it just might be MS. McArthur’s best yet I didn’t want it to end, I wanted to stay in Featherwood and I have my fingers crossed that we will be back there one day, this story has so many emotions running throughout it, I smiled and yes I cried happy tears, it is a beautiful story, one that I highly recommend, a must read.

It's that time of year again when we snuggle up to a cosy and intriguing Fiona McArthur novel!
I always learn something new. This time, about bees and how they affect the world around us. Honestly, they are so fascinating!
Fiona has taken us back to one of her familiar settings, Featherwood in Northern New South Wales. I absolutely adore this little village and her townsfolk. It was great to catch up with Gracie, Jed, Hannah, Liam and Molly once more. Molly even has her own story to tell this time around. She's remarried to Richard and is expecting her first baby any day now. How exciting, and Molly deserves all the happiness in the world.
It wouldn't be a Fiona novel without introducing some new characters. First up is Birdie. At just eighteen, she's finally escaping her Sydney foster family. She's determined to find her lost long brother, Marty, which brings her to Featherwood. All she has to go on is a birthday card postmarked from there. With just a quaint van 'Franny' and a whole heap of determination, will Birdie manage to find her brother and a forever home?
Up next is Natasha. She's a scientist that has a passion for bees. Tash is kind of estranged from her mother and never knew anything about her father. She's in town to speak to a local who may have the answer in a particular problem that her team is currently trying to solve.
Which brings us to Isaac, local hermit who has squirreled himself away in nature. He believes in sustainability, building a magnificent home in the picturesque Hidden Valley. There's a reason for his isolation and as a result, has built barriers. However, there's an instant connection between himself and Tash- will her endless kindness and emphatic nature knock those walls down?
I absolutely loved everything about this book, which doesn't come to any surprise. Everytime, I walk away with new friends and a sense of peacefulness. The medical drama elements always amaze me- Fiona is well versed in this aspect so you know that it's accurate as possible.
The pages were turned constantly, because I was well invested. There are a few lovely surprises, one's that I never considered. I do hope that we see these characters again one day.

Another great book by Fiona McArthur! Right from the start you were drawn in to the community and the characters felt like friends. The town of Featherwood felt just like any other small country town around Australia, where everyone knows everyone and all the gossip that goes with them. Birdie would have to have been my favourite character. So young, determined and full of go. The way the characters all linked together and their lives interwoven was really well done. I didn’t want this book to end. Would recommend 100%. Thankyou to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
