Gena Showalter is the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of over seventy books, including the acclaimed Lords of the Underworld series, the Gods of War series, the White Rabbit Chronicles, and the Forest of Good and Evil series. She writes sizzling paranormal romance, heartwarming contemporary romance, and unputdownable young adult novels, and lives in Oklahoma City with her family and menagerie of dogs and cats.
The Kraken Bride is the fourth book in Gena Showalter and Jill Monroe’s Kings of Fury series. If you read the last book, you already know Princess Bronwyn Drachenveil from the dragon court. In The Kraken Bride, she’s sent as an ambassador to Kraken territory, which is no easy job. She has to work with the Kraken King, Sebastian Morrissey, who fiercely protects his people and faces a threat from an ancient primordial. Bronwyn knows Sebastian is her firebrand, but he doesn’t believe in love, partly because of what happened to his parents and other reasons. Sebastian makes a deal with Bronwyn: pretend to be his consort and act as his spy, and in return, he’ll give her what she wants most. Bronwyn agrees, determined to show him that they are firebrands. It’s a tough journey, but she’s ready for it.
I really enjoyed this book in the Kings of Fury series. Bronwyn is a strong and determined heroine, and Sebastian is a protective hero who will do anything for his people. I appreciated how honest he was with her and how he tried to prepare her for what was coming, especially when it came to his feelings. He might not be everyone’s favorite at first, but once you learn his backstory, his actions make more sense.
I loved the secondary characters in this book, too, who played a role in not only the primordial threat, but the relationship of Sebastian and Bronwyn.
Both MCs stood out in this book and turned out to be a great match, even though I wasn’t sure at first. I trusted Gena and Jill to make it work. I’ve never read about a dragon shifter and a kraken pairing before, and it was a fun twist. What I love about this series is how each shifter finds their firebrand and fights for their connection. That’s exactly what happens with Sebastian and Bronwyn. They’re different, and sometimes one tries to push the other away, but the other refuses to give up. Bronwyn was the one who was not willing to give up, especially toward the end and what she did for Sebastian. She proved how much she cared for him and his people.
Overall, I thought this was another fantastic read, and I’m giving it 4.5 stars. I’m excited to read even more of this series from Gena and Jill. These two authors sure know how to write a story that is engaging and memorable characters that are easy to root for.
POV: Single POV (First Person)
Would I recommend this book? Absolutely. If you like reading Paranormal Romance with closed-door romance and just kissing, and you’re interested in a dragon and a kraken falling in love, you should add The Kraken Bride to your TBR. I recommend every book in this series. =)
What to Expect: ✔️Fake Dating ✔️Fated Mates/Firebrand ✔️Protective Hero ✔️Dragon Princess x Kraken King
I came in expecting to love it, and that's exactly what happened. Brownie Bites and Bastian were so cute, and one thing I particularly loved about this book is that we didn't have to wait long for the emotion to start. It was PACKED with it from the beginning and I am so here for that!
A few favorite quotes: 💙 The most dangerous person in any room isn't the one who steals your secrets, but the one who makes you want to give them away. 💙 "You make me wish I hadn't killed my wife. But only a little." 💙 "Show it to me again, please." I batted my lashes at him. "For science." 💙 "You're late," he said, rolling up a map. Then his gaze lifted and traveled slowly over me. He blinked. For one unguarded beat, something hot and unreadable crossed his expression, incinerating everything else. "You're forgiven." 💙 "If I think, even for a moment, things have gone badly, I will tear the ocean in half to get to you."
(I waited the whole book for that last one! *SWOON*)
Okay, so no one tell Callen, but The Kraken Bride has just usurped The Wrong Bride as my favorite book in this series. I just absolutely fell in love with the kraken king’s story, his dragon princess, and the heartache they both went through on their journey to happily ever after.
We met Bronwyn in her sister’s book, and I knew as soon as her romance was hinted at that this would be a good read. I love a good at-odds romance, not necessarily opposites attract nor enemies to lovers, but just two people who shouldn’t, on paper, work well together, and Bronwyn and Sebastian had that in spades. A fire-breathing dragon berserker and a kraken berserker at home in the water’s depths had so many reasons not to work, but I just loved these two together. Bastian had so many walls built up around his heart, all to keep his people safe. I loved watching Bronwyn slowly dismantle those walls, only to rebuild them with herself on the inside with Bastian, and putting herself on the line for what ended up becoming her people, too.
I spent most of the book having a love/hate relationship with Sebastian, though, which may be why The Kraken Bride now reigns as my favorite book in the series yet leaves Callen as my favorite berserker king. Sebastian’s willingness to continuously put his own life and happiness on the sidelines in order to keep his people safe was definitely endearing. Any love interest would be foolish not to fall for someone who would sacrifice so much for his people. However, Sebastian was more stubborn where Callen was a grump, so my heart puts Bastian as a close second on my berserker rankings.
Overall, The Kraken Bride had a lot of heart, especially when Sebastian’s was on the line. Bronwyn and Bastian were a fantastic matchup; Brona brought the grace and determination, and Bastian brought the heart and strength. I enjoyed their story from their initial meeting to their happily ever after, and thought this book was a great addition to the Kings of Fury series. From the internal conflicts of the heart to the external conflicts with the Kraken shifters, this book had an exciting plot that only makes me that much more eager for the next in the series!
Whoever said fire and water do not mix never met Bronwyn and Sebastian. These two form a bond stronger than anything, even though they know there can be no future.
Sebastian is cunning, vengeful, methodical and has a voice made for seduction.
Bronwyn is timid (until she’s not), a thinker, a bit of a free spirit and highly underestimated.
Together they could be unstoppable, if only the stubborn King would listen to his little Pirouette Princess. Brona learns that when she wants something she is actually very, very diabolical and she wants her happily ever after so she will go to any length to get it!
This story is fast paced, quick burn and keeps the pages turning! You will not be disappointed!
Bronwyn, from the Dragon court, goes to the Kraken court as an ambassador. She finds King Sebastian is her firebrand, now she needs to convince him to accept her heart. Sebastian doesn't have time for love, he needs to destroy a major foe. However, he needs Bronwyn's help and proposes a fake relationship. Fake relationships have a habit of becoming something more. This story is riviting and hard to put down. Very exciting and filled with all the feels. Thank you to Gena Show alter for the advanced copy.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Kraken Bride! Bronwyn is a determined dragon intent on getting what she wants. Sebastian is dreamy. He takes care of Bronwyn after they made a pact - even though he tries not to fall for her. I like the side characters Harpa, Soley, Gunnar, and even Freyja. Great story!
I received an ARC from Gena & Jill's Patreon. This series gets better with each book! This is about the Kraken Berserker & the Dragon princess from book #3 sent as an ambassador to his kingdom. They both fall first but it takes everything Bronwyn has to convince him that she is his firebrand.
Bronwyn and Sebastian are electric together!!! I loved their story and how Bronwyn was able to figure out the real way to make a family with Sebastian.
I really can't wait to see where we go next in this series!!!!
