Love Between the Lectures: A Novel
Sex positivity has never been hotter than in this steamy rom-com full of wit and humor that will appeal to fans of Christina Lauren and Jessica Joyce.
Sparks fly when a human sexuality professor is paired up with her former childhood crush to organize a sexual health event, until the university’s biggest donors—spearheaded by her conservative parents—oppose.
After growing up shackled in purity culture, June Wells broke out with a bang. She’s now a human sexuality professor on the brink of tenure and nothing is going to get in her way. That is until Alex Cardoso crashes back into her life. She’s managed to avoid her childhood neighbor and former crush for fifteen years, ever since the mortifying moment in high school when he turned her down. Worse? He’s a hot shot PhD candidate appointed to cover his first human sexuality class, and June is assigned as his mentor, linking her tenure to his success—or failure.
While June and Alex struggle to find their footing both in and out of the classroom, they’re tasked with organizing a sexual health Sextival. But June has a secret. She’s kept the details of her profession hidden from her ultraconservative parents, who happen to be the university’s largest donors.
When word about Sextival reaches June’s mother and her wealthy friends, they threaten to pull their donations unless the event is canceled. But June isn’t about to let the prudes win, and neither is Alex. Together, amid late-night office hours and an impromptu road trip, they finally find their rhythm at work… and in bed. But Alex has a secret of his own—one that will force June to decide what’s most important to her dream job or her dream guy.

The banter and humor in this book was literally chef’s kiss!
I absolutely loved June. When she found out she had to work with Alex, an old crush, I was dying! She also did such a great job of keeping things professional, and you could tell she was very passionate about her job.
I freaking loved that Alex called her by every month of the year except her actual name. I’m not entirely sure she enjoyed it, but I thought it was so cute!
When they had to work together to coordinate Sextival, a festival surrounding the topics of sex and safety, I was obsessed with their interactions and banter. And when other women would flirt with Alex?! Omg, I was right there with June, giving them the evil eye! Their drama had me hooked!
I felt so many emotions during the last quarter of this book! I smiled, laughed, cried… honestly, all the feels. I truly empathized with June and grew to really care for her character!

Thank you Alcove for the gifted digital proof of “Love Between the Lectures” by Christine Curry 🍆
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
(Coming September 22nd!)
Our professors are astronomically funny tbh I hope they don’t go bald 😂
But seriously this was one of the most unhinged yet educational reads I’ve ever had!
I binged it in one sitting and I have no regrets! 🩷
If you’re looking for a funny, steamy, childhood friends to lovers x brothers best friend, then our sexy co-professors in sexual education will take you for a ride (pun intended 😏😉)

I’m in a good mood, so I’m giving this three stars, even though I had a few issues with it. I’m not particularly fond of the usual romance-reader clichés and all the bookish romance references, and there were a couple of those here. That said, the characters were fun to read, although I do wish they’d been fleshed out a little more.
I appreciated how the book handled conservative parents and puritanical culture, particularly its recognition of the hypocrisy inherent in people who uphold and perpetuate the patriarchal system that has also shaped and constrained them. The heroine’s mother standing up for her daughter when it mattered most, although a bit too late, felt meaningful because it showed that deeply ingrained beliefs aren’t necessarily immutable and that a genuine willingness to rethink them can lead to change. By contrast, I just wish the heroine had shown more willingness to stand up for herself and her own beliefs instead of repeatedly retreating to appease others and keep the peace.
The ending was also a bit unsatisfactory. I would have liked a more detailed epilogue and a better glimpse into what came next for them. Overall, it was somewhat fun and an easy read to pass time.

4 / 5 Stars
This book was fun and super engaging - I ended up reading it in one sitting which flew by because the book is only around 300 pages. I just wanted a little more from the ending.
I really enjoyed June and Alex’s relationship. Yes, everything was based on a misunderstanding but it didn’t really bother me the way that miscommunications can. I really enjoyed their banter and even when they were sniping at each other, it was still had an air of fun. When they did finally get together, it was a super satisfying “it’s always been you” moment which I love.
I thought that June’s journey from being raised in a conservative, purity-focused family to being a human sexuality professor was really interesting. The parts around shame lingering were really thoughtful and well done. I wish we learned a bit more about her family and why they have this viewpoint to just flesh out the story a bit. Note, June’s mom is a tough read. She gets some redemption in the end, but oof, it was tough along the way.
I think the end was wrapped up too quickly and too neatly to feel believable. I don’t think academia works how it was portrayed at the end of the book so it required suspending some disbelief. I would have read another 50 pages if it meant that we got a little more time with June and Alex as they figured things out.
All in all, I really enjoyed the author’s writing style. It was so easy to read and there were some genuinely funny and silly moments that were balanced well with heavier topics and I would definitely read her next book.
You will probably like this book if you like:

⭐ It’s always been you

2.5 rounded up to 3.
I always try to write my reviews as honestly as possible, debut or not, and I’m not going to hold back here. This book should’ve been better than it was. It had plenty of promising elements — a critique of purity culture, the older brother’s friend/boy next door setup, years of yearning, and a genuinely adorable re meet cute when Alex runs into June right as her storage box spills a cascade of dildoes across the path. But the story juggles too many plot points, and none of them are fleshed out to a satisfying degree.
In the end, the whole thing lands as meh. There’s far too much telling and not enough showing, and the characters never develop the complexity needed to make me care about them. The ending feels rushed and leans on a deus ex machina to clear the final obstacle keeping the couple apart, which only underlines how thin the emotional groundwork is. Overall, this is a book worth skipping.

This was such a fun read! When authors have such fun idea like this that's not written about alot, it's so fun. A sextival, how silly but also so fun. Creating an enviroment that is fun to discuss sex and safety, very original. I loved this book, the banter was great, the chemistry on fire, and overall the vibe was awesome.

📓🍆BOOK REVIEW 🍆📓
¡¡¡UN PUTO SHOW!!!
———————————————————————————-
After reading so many books lately that just didn’t quite hit home for me, THIS ONE hit exactly where it needed to 💕
The banter, the spice, the humor… EVERYTHING was pure perfection! Alex and June were absolutely fantastic, and their chemistry should honestly be offensive to every other couple 🤭😂🔥
And the Bang Gang?! WHAT A BLAST. 😂 I loved every second of their chaos and the energy they brought to the story!
But what really surprised me was how much I loved the exploration of sexuality and the commentary on purity culture. It was genuinely so interesting, and some of it hit really close to home for me 💖❤️🩹
I’m someone who isn’t always super comfortable with talking about or exploring sex, so parts of this story were definitely outside my comfort zone. But honestly? That’s exactly why I wanted to read it. I want to step outside that comfort zone and become more comfortable with something I genuinely want to understand and embrace.
And I think that’s one of the things I appreciated most about this book; it made me laugh, swoon, blush, and think 🥹💕
Alex + June + the Bang Gang = an absolute WIN. I’m obsessed!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

The banter in this book was honestly SO funny.
I kept grinning at the way June and Alex interacted, especially because they were both trying so hard to act normal around each other when there was clearly so much history there. And Alex calling her every month of the year except June? I was dying. Such a stupidly cute little thing.
I really liked June too. She’s built this whole life around something her family would never have expected from her, and seeing her become more comfortable with who she is was probably my favorite part of her story. I also appreciated the conversations around sexuality and purity culture without the book ever losing its fun rom-com energy. Alex was such a great match for her, and I was completely here for the chemistry, the teasing, the acts of service, and all the ridiculousness that came with them working together.
The last part got me right in the feelings. I went from laughing to getting emotional so quickly, especially with everything happening between June and her family. Their romance had that really satisfying “it’s been you all along” feeling, and by the end I was just sitting there smiling.
Such a fun, sexy, slightly chaotic romance that was ridiculously easy to fly through.

This might work well for readers who grew up in purity culture, as the FMC June did, but overall this was a huge miss for me.
The conflicts felt rushed and too easily resolved and sometimes a bit all over the place. June, who is a sexual health professor and empowers her students uses the term "deflower"? and is just really bad at communicating outside of the classroom.
And then there is MMC Alex, who starts out treating June like they are still kids and lost me around 35% where he not so kindly tells her "I honestly had no idea how accomplished you were." To June, a professor whose class he will be covering. What? It was an uphill battle from there for me to even want Alex redeemed in June's eyes - and it never happened. That third act couldn't even be called a break-up, he was just out (unless she came with, she a professor working towards tenure!). So frustrating.

3.5 ⭐️ witty, playful, & fresh!!
love between the lectures follows dr. june wells, a human sexuality professor who is reluctantly paired with her childhood crush (and the man she’s been actively avoiding for years), dr. alex cardoso, a brilliant phd candidate, to organize a high-profile campus-wide sexual health event — only for backlash from the university’s wealthiest donors, including june’s conservative parents, to threaten everything.
this debut from curry definitely had a classic rom-com feel — a fun meet-cute, witty banter, silly shenanigans, & delicious, palpable tension — which i absolutely loved!! the story moved at a pretty quick pace, which kept me engaged. however, i think it was maybe a bit too fast in certain places. the ending in particular felt somewhat rushed in its resolution, making a few developments feel less believable. but what’s a rom-com without some suspended disbelief to ensure that HEA??
i also found the fmc’s internal monologue to read a bit younger than i expected for a woman in her 30s. there were a couple of side characters who felt almost like caricatures. they seemed to be written solely to create conflict, but just came across as a little too over the top for me (one character didn’t even really add anything to the story ?!? they just caused unnecessary, very high school-esque drama between the mcs, which i actually loathed). unfortunately, these things occasionally pulled me out of the story.
regardless, i really enjoyed the academic setting (my fav) and appreciated how the book explored sex positivity and christian purity culture. i recommend this to readers looking for a quick-paced, fun, banter-filled, & lighthearted rom-com!!

The more workplace romances I read, the more my very imaginative mind wonders what if… 🤭
I went into this expecting a cute workplace romance between two professors, and while it definitely gave me that, there was a little more going on here than I expected.
June has spent years successfully avoiding Alex and the feelings she very clearly has for him… until she’s assigned to mentor him while he teaches a human sexuality class.
Awkwaaaard!!!
Alex and June’s banter, along with their chemistry, kept this one fun.
But underneath all of the humor and romance, there’s a bigger conversation about sex and how much of ourselves we sometimes hide just to keep other people comfortable. I really liked watching June become more confident in owning who she is and what she believes in.
This was a fun read, not quite the simple workplace romance I expected.

This fast paced spicy romance follows college professor June as she reconnects with her childhood crush Alex when they are forced to work together to present a human sexuality class and festival.
Thank you to NetGalley and Alcove Press for the opportunity to read and review this book which I am giving 3.5⭐️.
I thought this book was a lot of fun and a good way to handle sex positivity and overcoming the social stigmata’s surrounding sex. I enjoyed both of the main characters and their relationship. This had a bit of angst but not too much. The only issue I had with this book is that it was so fast paced that everything that happened especially the resolution all felt too easy. Everything just fell into place at the appropriate moment so much that it felt like it was following the standard romance playbook down the last detail.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Smart, sexy, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt, Love Between the Lectures pairs a second-chance-ish childhood crush romance with a heroine who has spent years trying to become the person she was never allowed to be.
June Wells grew up surrounded by purity culture and the expectations of her ultraconservative family. Now she’s a human sexuality professor on the verge of earning tenure—a career she’s conveniently kept vague around her parents. She’s worked hard to build a life on her own terms, and the last thing she needs is Alex Cardoso walking back into it.
Alex isn’t just June’s childhood neighbor and former crush. He’s also the guy who rejected her in high school, creating one of those memories she would very much like to bury forever. Fifteen years later, he’s a PhD candidate preparing to teach his first human sexuality course, and June has been assigned to mentor him. Suddenly, avoiding Alex is no longer an option.
I really enjoyed the tension between these two. There’s history, embarrassment, lingering attraction, and plenty of unresolved feelings simmering beneath every interaction. Watching June and Alex slowly move beyond who they were as teenagers and discover who they’ve become as adults gave their relationship so much more substance than simple workplace chemistry.
Then there’s Sextival.
When June and Alex are tasked with organizing the university’s sexual health event, June’s carefully separated worlds collide. Her conservative parents are major university donors, and once June’s mother and her circle discover exactly what June does—and what Sextival represents—they’re determined to shut it down.
This was where the story became more than a romance for me. June’s struggle isn’t simply about standing up to difficult parents. She has to confront how much of her upbringing she still carries with her, even after seemingly rejecting it. Her career centers on openness, education, autonomy, and removing shame from sexuality, yet she still feels compelled to hide that career from the people who raised her. That contradiction made her feel incredibly human.
And Alex makes a wonderful counterpart to her. Their chemistry is undeniable, but I especially liked the moments when their connection became quieter and more vulnerable. Between late nights, working together, a spontaneous road trip, and finally addressing their complicated past, the relationship develops into something neither of them can dismiss as leftover attraction.
Of course, Alex has been keeping something from June too, and when that secret comes out, June is forced to reconsider not only their relationship but what she actually wants her future to look like.
Love Between the Lectures balances humor, romance, steam, family expectations, academic politics, and some genuinely thoughtful conversations about shame and sexual autonomy. June’s journey toward unapologetically claiming the life she chose was every bit as satisfying as watching her finally get another chance with the guy she once thought she’d never have.
A clever, steamy academic romance about old crushes, new chances, and discovering that sometimes the biggest act of rebellion is simply refusing to be ashamed of who you are.

*I am grateful to Alcove Press via NetGalley for an eARC of this book. Opinions in this review are my own.
Love Between the Lectures follows June on her quest for tenure at Barrett as a Human Sexuality Professor, while having to last-minute lecture new PhD-grad (and her former neighbor and brother's ex-best friend) Alex, an epidemiologist, as he fulfills his last semester of teaching while applying to jobs. The good - it was a great read against purity culture, and I honestly felt the relationships between June, her mom, and grandmother were really thought through and the story spent a lot of time delving into them - they were the richest - her conflict with her mom (relatable) and the warm, unconditional love of her grandma.
I couldn't get over that...a lot of this is not how academia works (albeit, I'm not in Public Health, but I do have a PhD and have close friends who are in public health - one professor, and one in the public health department - literally, exactly like the couple in this book)...but no matter what field you're in, you're not getting a tenured position at [redacted] based on an informal interview and the dept favorite wanting you there - so that did take me out of it.
I adore childhood friends to strangers to lovers, and one of the best parts is getting all the build up from when they were kids. I loved the story about Alex's mom introducing June to [spoiler] and Alex's role in that - I just needed more than that one scene! And to follow up with Alex's mom!! It felt like there wasn't enough to justify the excitement over the reunification, and what the two of them liked about each other, even though it's clear they share a lot of the same interests and respect for one another - I just needed more relationship development. The part with Savannah could have been sacrificed for some scenes that built up their relationship either in the past or at present.
There was so much potential here, and maybe part of it was that this book was a short one at 238ish pages - could have used the extra runway to develop the main relationship more. And without spoiling the third act, it's legit that June felt the way she did, but tbh when you're in your 30s and this is the person you really belong with...there are a lot of mature ways to handle your feelings and behavior, and hers really weren't it. She basically threw a tantrum and someone else magically solved her problem (she's not escaping the allegations of being a spoiled rich girl there...as hard as she's worked the whole story!) It was frustrating, especially after seeing her stand up to the touch purity culture parenting she'd been exposed to (yay June!) - I just wished that maturity had carried through.

Okay… I freaking loved this book.😂
June Wells grew up surrounded by purity culture and expectations about what a “good” woman should be, only to grow into a human sexuality professor who is passionate about helping her students understand sex, consent, pleasure, and their own bodies without shame. Her journey isn't just about falling in love with Alex. It's about unlearning the shame she grew up with and choosing who she wants to be for herself. 🥹
Then Alex Cardoso walks back into her life after fifteen years and that childhood crush she absolutely definitely got over is standing in front of her again.😂 She's been assigned as his mentor and they're forced to work together on Sextival, a sexual health event.
Alex doesn't make June choose between her career and their relationship. He supports her, believes in her, and encourages her to go after the things she wants.🥹 There were so many moments where I was laughing then suddenly feeling ALL THE FEELS. Especially toward the final stretch. June's relationship with her family brought some heavier emotional moments and I really felt for her as she tried to reconcile the daughter her parents expected her to be with the woman she had become.
This was funny, sexy, heartfelt, empowering, and full of that “it has always been you” feeling that makes second chance romance hit so damn hard.

Nothing is better than a hot professor…unless he wears glasses too and has been pining over his best friend’s younger sister for years. But serious this book is an epic romcom, it’s got the laughs but also angst that will have you crying so hard your eyes will be sore. Both June and Alex are such lovable characters and the plot was mischievous and perfect. Every good romcom has a meet cute and this one happens to be spilling a box of dildos all over the floor. From that moment the chemistry was sizzling and despite the banter it was clear that there is so such unresolved love between them. There’s plot was comedy genius, a serious epidemiologist teaching a sexual education class with the help of a spunky sexual health professor. Whether it was fate or pure willpower I don’t know but they really made the dream team, especially when he was willing to glue purple sparkly dildos onto a poster board for her sex festival board game. Now onto the characters, June Wells is an icon for me. As someone who also grew up in very church and purity culture, how June broke free from that is so empowering. I love some sex positivity and this book delivered it on every page. Alex is her complete, he’s serious and a little on the shyer side at first, but I just loved how he grew into it and was so confident in supporting her. He’s a man absolutely devoted to his woman and I was there for it. Honestly, I could endlessly praise this book with the heartwarming yet hilarious plot and beautiful characters. But seriously JUT READ IT! I loved everything about it and give it a 5/5

I absolutely adored this book. June and Alex have fantastic chemistry from the first moment you meet them together, and it never lets up. She's a human sexuality professor going up for tenure; he's the childhood crush who turned her down in high school, and now she's the one assigned to mentor him through his first semester teaching a section of her own course. There's just enough history and background to their relationship, plus a twist in what each of them remembers, to keep everything interesting while the romance stays fully in the present. They're never stuck relitigating high school; they're two adults who have to work together and keep finding out that they've each been carrying around a different version of the same story.
The book also skips the (usually overdone) third-act breakup and makes them confront the issues instead, then lets them have their HEA anyway. The thing that could have blown them apart gets dealt with head-on instead of turning into forty pages of two people being miserable in separate apartments, and they still have to work for the ending. The story was perfectly spicy, and it had excellent family dynamics (not necessarily in a good way) that made it really fun.
I would have never guessed this was Christie Curry's debut. I can't wait to read her next book! Thank you Christie, NetGalley, and Alcove Press for the eARC!

Thank you Love Notes PR and the fantastic author, Christie Currie for this arc!
I want to start by clarifying that this is a debut novel and I believe with all my being that everyone should give it a chance. I literally read the book in a day and hours because the rhythm it has is too addictive and I couldn’t stop reading.
You don’t know how BEAUTIFUL it was to read about June (or every other month, iykyk) and Alex, these two have years of not seeing each other, and also... years of a lot of patience, and pining between each other!
Something I loved was how fun it was, but at the same time it dealt with necessary themes, it had elements of development in some characters that led you to hate them but loved them too; in my opinion, it lacked development in one important situation, but I still loved the ending, June deserved that!
June and Alex are very beautiful, their story and their present were developed in a beautiful way. Don’t trust June’s thoughts, because Alex can surprise you 👀✨. OMG, and the whole theme of sexuality LOOOL, I’ll just say that the Bang Gang needed more chats in the book!!!

Thank you to NetGalley and Alcove Press for this eARC in exchange for my honest opinions!!
June and Alex are colleagues at a local college but also former neighbors who might have been avoiding one another for 15ish years or so. June had (has) the biggest crush on Alex growing up and after being rejected, she’s made a point of ignoring him completely. Until she can longer and needs to mentor him so he can complete teaching requirements.
I really enjoyed how June finally took control of her life and sexuality. She was shamed so much and felt the need to lie to her family for her entire career. I found it so interesting that someone who was raised in that culture eventually became a human sexuality professor! I loved how Alex called her every month but the one she was named, that was so cute. I think childhood friends to strangers to lovers might be one of my favorite very specific tropes.
The pacing was a bit fast at the end and it seemed like everything was happening all at once and then it was all solved just as quickly. But overall I found this book to be funny and romantic while also having fun side characters.

3.75⭐️
June is striving to secure tenure at the college where she teaches. When she’s asked to mentor her brother’s friend, Alex—a guy she had a huge crush on growing up who ultimately rejected her—in order to help secure her tenure, the two might just get a second chance.
Love Between the Lectures is a second-chance romance between two college professors who both teach human sexuality. It’s fun, funny, and steamy! The fifteen-year history between June and Alex creates such great tension and attraction, and the chemistry between them was spot-on. The banter is fantastic, and even when they’re arguing, you can feel the underlying yearning and pining from both sides, which really pulled me into their story!
The writing is engaging, and the characters are all incredibly endearing and easy to root for. June’s grandmother was an absolute highlight and a total hoot! I enjoyed this one so much that I read it in a single sitting. My only complaint is that I wish the ending had been a little more developed rather than wrapping things up so quickly.
Overall, this was the perfect mix of second-chance romance, witty banter, plenty of yearning, and just enough emotion to balance out the humour. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author in the future!

Advanced copy read from NetGalley
This was a fun read! June has had a massive crush on Alex since high school and hasn’t seen him for 15 years. They come crashing back into each other’s lives when they are both accomplished PhDs and professors at the same college. Alex’s specialty is Epidemiology and June’s is Human Sexuality. I love these characters and I love how everything came together in the end. I love Gram’s antics 🤣
Forced proximity, second chance love, yearning, steamy chemistry, horny grandparents, redemption, lots of dildos (mostly for educational purposes) and condoms (not always for educational purposes😉), and love 🥰

I had such an amazing time reading this one! I mean, I knew I was gonna love it when I was already laughing (AND tearing up a bit) in Chapter 1! 🙌
I fell so hard for June! She’s funny, she’s real, she just wants to be loved and accepted by her mother. Plus she is so accomplished and takes great pride in the work she does with her students (as she should!)
And boy does Alex just throw her completely off her planned path! 😂 Basically in love with him since a very meaningful moment when she was 12, and subsequently having him break her heart her senior year of High School. She hasn’t seen him in 15 years, and maybe she’s never gotten over him…
Forced proximity, fun banter, and lots of flirting. Many a laugh out loud moment. Romantic and sexy, with some very sweet and spicy moments. I enjoyed every moment of reading this one, and looking forward to seeing what this author has in store for us next!

Just finished Love Between the Lectures ~ @christiecurrywrites debut novel
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
There were points in this book that brought tears to my eyes. June’s home life growing up wasn’t the easiest and always wanting to be enough made my heart hurt for her. Having to hide things to people that should love you unconditionally isn’t a way to live.
All in all, this second chance romance was a smooth read. I loved the humour throughout, especially from her Gram.
Thank you to @lovenotes.pr for the advanced copy of this book 🫶🏻 it’s out know so go get yourself a copy!!

A cute and fast book to read, with a few swoon-worthy moments, though there were some things that missed the mark a bit for me.
This had so many promising moments that fell short, the chracters are not well defined, like we no nothing about Alex at all. June was really close to his mom as kids, but there was just a phone call with her throughout the book.
Despite being in her 30s and teaching sex health June was very childish and immature, throwing stupid tantrums here and there. And I wished we had Alex's pov here and there, not just June's

Thank you Alcove Press for providing this ebook for review consideration via NetGalley and Love Notes PR. All opinions are my own.
I’m not at all familiar with purity culture myself, so I found it quite confronting to read about the sheer amount of shame that can apparently cling to sexuality in that context. I can only imagine how hard it must be to completely shake off beliefs instilled in you from a young age. That’s what made June so brave to me: she consciously chooses her own path, in a field that stands in stark contrast to her upbringing and increasingly defines for herself what she believes and who she wants to be.
Of course, the shared history with Alex and that "it’s always been you" vibe are wonderful, but I especially loved the way he supports June. He stands by her side, giving her that extra little push she needs to dare to fully choose herself. I love it when a couple doesn't ask one partner to dim their light so the other can shine, but instead believes in each other, in what the other is capable of and wants to achieve, and encourages one another to go for it.
The book is also packed with humor: the banter, the awkward situations, and of course everything surrounding "Sextival" made me laugh out loud more than once!
Finally I loved the women standing by one another and lifting each other up rather than seeing each other as competition part with the other human sexuality professor!
