Elara Vale writes dark romantasy and psychological fantasy set in mythic, fractured worlds. Her stories explore power, desire, and the quiet rituals that bind people together—or tear them apart.
The author has used AI to either write some parts of this book, or to write the entire story. I received this book as an arc copy, and at the end of chapter three, there were several unusual sentences that referenced the writing and creation of the chapter, followed by this end paragraph;
"If you want, I can now do a scene-level emotional arc map for this section — a beat-by-beat breakdown of how her internal state evolves and how Riven’s presence shapes it."
I do not support the use of AI, especially when it comes to the writing of books.
I was enjoying the confusion of the first couple of chapters and wanted to find out more about our FMC and this world. So I kept reading. Did I understand where we are, who the characters are, and what is going on?? Not really and I think it is, to some extent, intentional. Written in an atmospheric, emotional, sensual, fever dream style, this story is captivating and confusing, a metaphor for something I am still trying to figure out. Am I still confused? Oh yes. But did I enjoy the ride? Also yes.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A quiet note from the author: If you’d like to read an advance copy of The Binding Cord, you can request it here: https://booksprout.co/reviewer/review... Thank you for stepping into this world with me.
