Angela Blake: Uranium

Rate this book
A Russian man, who has lived quietly in Australia for more than fifteen years, is found dead in a small boat off the coast near the major city of Sydney. The police suspect the man was murdered but they are unable to establish the actual cause of death, or his reason for being at sea at night.
Soon after that, the Australian Government gives permission for a foreign ship to anchor off the Arafura Sea coastline in the Northern Territory for the purpose of conducting a marine survey.
A few early inspections of the ship by Australian authorities find no evidence to suggest anything more than a marine survey is in progress. The Australian and United State’s governments agree the survey ship, which is a large freighter with minimal armaments, poses no threat in conducting what is represented to be a harmless cultural exchange. The U.S. Government identifies the freighter as the same vessel used previously by Soviet agents for surveillance off Cuba where they were spying on naval movements in that area.
Both governments agree that although the survey is a cover for surveillance of American naval presence in the nearby Indian Ocean, they welcome its presence as being far less threatening than Russian nuclear submarines recently withdrawn from surveillance duties in several areas around the world.
The Director of the Australian Section for Intelligence, Defence, and Espionage (A.S.I.D.E.) is not convinced about the reason put forward for the survey, and sends the beautiful spy/assassin agent Doctor Angela Blake to investigate the death of the Russian man and to have a closer look at the survey operations.
The special agency is operated by a female Director, Miss Evelyn Summerby. She is a ruthless woman who believes in getting espionage work done with a minimum of paperwork. The agency operates under the cover of an exclusive women’s fashion boutique in the national capital, Canberra.
Angela Blake and her fellow agent, Geoff Hunter, discover a link between a series of seemingly unrelated events which leads them to uncover an operation by a rogue committee in Moscow to steal Australian uranium.
Angela also comes into contact with an ancient Aboriginal man who places a mystical purple crescent mark in her eyes which gives her protection from dangerous animals.
Angela and another agent, Geoff Hunter, spend time together in the wilds of the Northern Territory. Their relationship soon develops beyond friendship.
