From the official website: Crimethought is not any ideology or value system or lifestyle, but rather a way of challenging all ideologies and value systems and lifestyles—and, for the advanced agent, a way of making all ideologies, value systems, and lifestyles challenging.
Great little pamphlet on anarchism. It is refreshing to see all forms of hierarchy criticized, including the monetary system, government and personal competition. Many groups tend to only look at one of these as the culprit, thus missing the point of the systemic hierarchy problem. Such as modern libertarians blaming government, yet having no problem with money or competition or social democrat types blaming big business while supporting government, etc... It is rare in my experience to see groups which rationally question the need for government or money in the first place. Very refreshing.
This wasn't particularly bad, I just got bored of the anarchist introduction too many years ago for me to get into it. I'm bored of anarchism. I want to feel excited, like when I first read crimethinc and it would seduce and compel one to hitchhike to convergences, sleep under a bushes and eat from dumpsters for fun and try to steal everything. The fact that crimethinc stays an introduction ad infinitum makes it hard for it to keep feeling like crimethinc.
some good thoughts, pretty poetic, not many concrete examples. A good starting place for changing ideas about relationship to society, especially for those just beginning to notice alienation.
It very much helped me to understand Anarchism and the reasoning behind it. This little 48-page book has truly resonated with me more than anything else I've read.
The writing is easy to understand and clear, it discussed a more modern ideology compared to ancient writings from the founders.
This isn't a book, but a pamphlet, but it still packs a pretty powerful punch. It's an appeal to looking at life through the lens of anarchist philosophy, and with some nice, professional graphics and typesetting, it's way beyond the usual black and white zines that normally fuel the alternative economic movement.
It's written by an anarchist collective called CrimethInc., which has a website full of podcasts and articles and free downloads about anarchism. Although the writing is earnest, it's heartfelt, and makes a convincing case that our current system of state and capitalism is not working.
If you order products from CrimethInc. on their website, you'll probably get this free in the package, like I did. It's also free to download, so if you're interested but don't want to depart from some scratch, then head over to crimethinc.com and take a look around their store. Plenty to keep your attention for days, if not weeks.
It's fine but I'm not sure who it's written for. It's so simple that it would seem to be written not only for someone who is unaware of anarchism but someone who has never even questioned the way their world is organized and operated. Someone who takes capitalism completely for granted. Yet at the same time they have things in here that would probably turn people at the entry level off to the ideas presented... such as saying in the very beginning that even our bodies are not individual because they are an ecosystem with millions of bacteria. It's not untrue and that's an idea that would be very cool to explore further but it is just going to sound ridiculous to someone who has never even questioned the order of the world.
really solid primer, really clean definitions and identification of the dominate power structures that oppress us, very cogent and accessible language, grounding bigger concepts of oppression with concrete and finite examples from our current material conditions, and ends with a formulation for steps moving forward, how to begin conceptualizing a future post-property rights, post-empire-via-domination.
Should be required reading for everyone. It’s so powerful, so concentrated, and offered as an anonymous gift, in the service of humanity. “A scoundrel’s worst fear is a society without property—for without it, he will only get the respect he deserves.”
An interesting manifesto that puts forward a number of important points. Sometimes it drones on and goes off topic, but it does bring up often unheard ideas.
I'm using this as a placeholder for "How to Form an Affinity Group", a similar pamphlet from the same printing group.
The second read is a placeholder for "The Threat to Rojava."
I do actually have this pamphlet, which they sent me with my printed copy of "Recipes for Disaster." I haven't read it yet, but I will update my review when I do.
