They call him the Iceman. The eldest of seven brothers, he is the biggest. The coldest. The meanest.
No one has been able to break through the icy shield Kane Callaghan has built around himself. No one except the tiny, stubborn woman willing to sacrifice herself for him. She haunts his dreams, but he has no idea who she is. Where she is. Or if he’ll ever see her again.
Rebecca Harrison spent the last twelve years with humanitarian relief organizations, travelling to some of the hardest hit areas of the world, but none has ever affected her as much as that tiny village in Africa. Because of him.
Fierce and beautiful and terrible, she can’t get him out of her mind. Kane. The avenging archangel who appeared out of nowhere, saving her from a fate worse than death. The one she was forced to leave behind.
Worlds apart, they are bound by the events of that one horrible night, though the chances of ever meeting again are too small to dare even hope. Of course, neither one realizes just how clever Fate can be…

The heroine:Rebecca - She was a humanitarian relief worker for over twelve years until she ended up in Africa in a small village when it was attacked by insurgents. Her coworker was killed by a bullet, and she was performing last rights over him when the insurgents grabbed her and pulled off her hair covering, showing her blonde hair for all to see. She was in danger of being raped and tortured by more than one of them.
The Hero:Kane - Kane is the biggest, oldest and most dangerous of the Callaghan brothers. He is a former Navy Seal who now works with his brothers and father doing contract special ops work for the government, the kind where they can do things that the military can’t. They are known as the Ghost team. Kane thinks he is become less than human with each mission, he sometimes retreats to the solitude of his cabin in the woods.
The Story: Kane was on a mission in Africa, where insurgents were raiding a small town, killing and raping. When Kane sees a relief worker trying to flee the village, so he knows there are probably more and if the let the insurgent leader go, he will do the same to more villages. They grabbed their target, but Kane couldn’t leave without saving the American woman he saw being captured. They had to get out of the open fast, when someone shot at them and Kane was shot in the hip. Rebecca grabbed Kane’s gun and took down the men charging at them.
Kane assumed the woman was a nun, because of the covering she wore and the fact that she was saying the Lord’s prayer over the dead relief worker. She was also insane as she didn’t give up and helped drag Kane out of there even as he was telling her to leave him and run to his brothers at their meeting point. After Kane was taken to the nearest medic, Rebecca went back to the village to try to save any survivors. He couldn’t stop thinking of her during his months of rehab.
Rebecca was on her way to see her brother Aiden in Pine Ridge, when terrible storms were in the area causing flooding and putting people out of their homes. As soon as she arrived, she started to help out in the building where the flood victims were being put up. Rebecca and Kane were both surprised to find each other in the same city. They got to know each other slowly and started spending more and more time together. This was a bit of a slow burn for me and though I liked how gentle the big guy was, I wanted him to be more of a take charge kind of guy romantically.
This audiobook was done in dual points of view via solo narration. It was narrated by Aiden Snow, who is one of my favorite male narrators. He has a terrific voice, which is deep and soft. He is a great narrator and is perfect for each of these strong Callaghan men. I like dual or duet narration a lot better, though if you are going to have only one narrator, Aiden Snow is the one to have!
As a massive fan of both Ms. Zanders and the Callaghan Brothers I am sure you can imagine just how excited I was when Zanders announced on Facebook that she would be releasing Guardian Angel 3 days early. Just in case you can’t imagine, I looked a little something like this -
From the moment the elusive and reclusive Kane “The Iceman” Callaghan was introduced in the first book, I have been dying to know his story and I was not disappointed. Kane, the oldest Callaghan brother is also the most guarded. He is known for his dominating appearance, surly demeanour and prefers his own solitude. As more of his brothers find their Croie and settle down, Kane finds himself volunteering for the more dangerous ops. Whilst on one of these dangerous covert missions in Namibia and during a village massacre, Kane crosses paths with a beautiful, brave, stubborn American aid worker. After barely making it out alive the pair are separated and Kane realises he never even found out her name.
As time passes Kane attempts to locate the mystery woman who helped save his life but even with tech savvy Ian’s help they keep coming up blank. When a cyclone ravages the local area the Callaghan’s along with the rest of the community pull together to help the victims. What Kane doesn’t expect to find at the emergency shelter is the beautiful honey blonde that has been haunting his dreams since that fateful night in Namibia, nor does he expect her to be Aiden’s sister.
Coming to Pine Ridge to see her brother and to help with the disaster relief, Rebecca Harrison is shocked to once again see Kane Callaghan. Not a day has gone by that Rebecca hasn’t thought of her giant saviour and seeing him again causes an intense longing to fill Rebecca’s heart.
As the pair get to know each other Kane finds himself overwhelmed by the intense feelings he is having for Rebecca and attempts to push her away as he believes he is not good enough for her despite her obvious desire for him. He refuses to act on his feelings in order to protect her but what he doesn’t realise is that with every rejection he is actually destroying her. Will the Iceman let this selfless beauty thaw his heart and show him the love he so desperately wants?.
"When she looked at him like that, he forgot who he was, what he was. They offered absolution, redemption, and salvation. And he didn't deserve - or want any of it."
Kane was exactly how I imagined him to be, strong, dominant, brave, possessive and protective but also incredibly sweet, thoughtful, tender and loving. He presented such a stoic and unmovable personality to the world that it was lovely to see Rebecca not only invoke the tender side but also smooth out some of his rough edges.
"Kind" was not a word he often heard. Hard. Implacable. Cold, yes. But kind? Never. There was a reason they called him the Iceman.
Rebecca had such a beautiful and compassionate heart. She always put others needs before her own and dedicated her life to trying to make others better. She was incredibly brave and selfless. She loved Kane with her whole heart and never waivered no matter how hard he rejected or dismissed her. She was always able to see the true man beneath the menacing exterior that made most people cower and never gave up on him.
"She was, quite simply, the kindest, quietest, most appreciative woman he'd ever known. If she had one fault, it was that she never seemed to think of herself."
Their personalities complimented each other perfectly. They both preferred the simple things in life, they appreciated the beauty of solitude and silence and they were both willing to sacrifice themselves to keep other people safe. They both loved fiercely and when they finally opened their hearts to each other it was explosive.
"Darkness cannot exist without the light, just as light cannot exist without the darkness."
"His Croie."
One of the things I continue to love book after book is the close relationship between all the characters, not only the brothers but also the wives. The strong familial bonds not only enhance the story but allow for side splitting hilarity.
I really enjoyed Kane and Rebecca’s story. Kane fought his fate a lot harder than his brothers and this lead to a roller coaster ride of emotions but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Ms. Zanders may put your emotions through a hard workout but she always delivers the ending you want!.
With every book I continue to fall a little more in love with this series and I must say, I am now eagerly awaiting the very gorgeous Shane’s book next.
If you enjoy hot brothers, military/special ops, fated love and alpha males I recommend checking out this fantastic series!.
Sigh I'm so disappointed its unbelievable. What the hell was this? In every one of the previous books the brothers were almost instantly drawn to their women, while Kane did look for Rebecca it wasnt until she was attacked that he suddenly knew she was his soulmate??!! And still did they get together? Did he pull out his man card and fight for his woman? Nooooooooooo I felt like everyone else was dragging him along in the quest to couple him up with Becca. For the biggest and baddest of the brothers he was a wimp when it came to dealing with his woman! She threw herself at him and he turned her down for her own good, then immediately packed her up and deposited her back for her brother.SMH I'm bitterly disappointed as this book! Becca sometimes appeared strong and I admired her helping so many people but considering the places she's been, the attacks she'd suffered through, the scars on her body I think her reaction to the attack at the shelter was not compatible with a person who'd already experienced so much. I needed Kane to grovel at her feet and I needed Becca to make him work really really hard for it but alas this author did not take my needs into consideration while writing this book 😂 because apparently nothing says I'm sorry like a half assed out of the blue marriage proposal!!!!!!!!!!? Yet another miss in this series for me but I think this miss hurt the most considering I loved the first 20% of this book and I was really excited for Kane's story! With no back story for Kane I didn't even have sympathy for him to get me through this disaster!Ugh moving on because I've come too far to turn back now 😭
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was the book I was anticipating the most, and it did not disappoint. Alpha male? Tortured hero? Damsel in distress? Sympathetic heroine? No unnecessary drama? I got the whole flipping lot in spades. LOVED Kane and Becca's story, if ever there was a couple that deserved their happy it's these two.
One thing that niggled - I don't feel I got to know Kane. What made him so tortured, closed off and angry all the time? I really wish that had been explained, we definitely needed more of his back story
4.5 stars, would so have been 5 stars if there was more of Kane's history.
This is the fifth book in Abbie Zander's fantastic Callaghan Brothers series. She has penned an absolute winner in this series about 7 Irish brothers, all former Navy SEALs, as they find and fall for their one woman, their croie - heart and soulmate. Along the way, she has given us action, suspense, passion, steam and deep, true love. It's fast become a favorite series for me.
This book is about the oldest of the Callaghan brothers, Kane, known as The Iceman for his cool, cold detachment, especially during a mission. Kane is the defacto leader of the family, aside from the father, patriarch Jack Callaghan. He always protected his brothers, saving the worst, most horrific assignments related to their covert black ops company for himself, thus saving his brothers the mental trauma and anguish. With 4 of his brothers now married or about to be married, he has scaled back the family operation a bit, as he doesn't want to responsible for one of his brothers not coming home.
While on a mission, he rescues, and is in turn rescued by, a woman, who, at first glance, he assumes is a nun. She is unlike any woman he has ever encountered. She does not shrink away from his scowl, she does not back down from his harshly delivered instructions to go on without him. She refuses to leave him behind, and she tends to his wounds, goading him to gather his strength and lean on her so they both can get out of there. Once they get to safety, she surprises him by not getting in the vehicle to get to the safety of their base. No, she gets him in the vehicle, turns and runs back into danger to try to help whomever may still be alive. He is furious, but she is already gone.
Rebecca Harrison, former heiress, has been an aid worker for the last 12 years, traveling to dangerous, poverty stricken places and having left her life as an extremely wealthy debutante long behind. She has seen more than her fair share of horrible, soul-marking things in her travels. Running from gunmen who raided the impoverished, remote village where she and the nuns worked to offered whatever aid they could, Rebecca is saved by Kane, and then, almost immediately, turns around returning the favor by saving him. She leaves him safely with his brothers, thinking she will never see him again. Months later, on the way to visit her brother, Aiden, Lexi Callaghan's boss and friend of the Callaghan family, she shows up in Pine Ridge during a major flooding event just as they're setting up an evacuation center in the local school. Becca immediately rolls up her sleeves to help. Hours later she gets the shock of a lifetime when she turns around and Kane is there. They begin a beautiful friendship that soothes and heals them both. These two just get each other in a way that no one else does, and they need each other. Becca needs Kane's darkness as much as Kane needs Becca's lightness. Becca is in love with him, and he with her, but Kane will not allow himself to love or be loved. He is too dark, and mistakenly, he believes he needs to protect her from his darkness. When Becca finally draws the courage to take that first step, Kane shuts her down, humiliatingly, devastatingly, cruelly so. Later that same night, Becca is horribly assaulted, and her brother and friends watch with increasing concern as the vibrant woman she once withers away as she is overcome by the pain of losing Kane and fear following her attack. It is during this time that Kane realizes what he has found, and let go of, in Becca. She is his "one," his croie - his heart, his soulmate.
I have come to truly adore this series, and this author. Abbie Zanders is a very talented storyteller. She has created a fantastic series here that is well written, with interesting, intense and intriguing plots, characters that you can't help but pull for and true, soul deep love stories. I can't say enough about this series! Zanders is without question a one-click author for me! I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for book 6!!
I have started with the first one in this series and went through and bought them all read them in order and all I can say is Wow a must read. Again thanks Abbie. Happy Reading
The bigger they are the harder they fall, and boy does Kane fall hard! Rebecca is a great heroine, and perfect for rough and gruff Kane Callaghan. She is strong, independent and despite her small size she is a force to be reckoned with.
“I have no pity for you, sweetheart. Infinite love, yes. Undying devotion, definitely. Unquenchable lust, absolutely. But pity? Never.”
I loved listening to this story. Great narration. -4.5 Stars!-
Wish there were more stars to give this one. Guardian Angel by Abbie Zanders was everything I demand in a great romance. Strong story, incredible characters, hot sizzling passion. I was looking forward to reading this, the fifth in Ms. Zanders series Callaghan Brothers and I wasn't disappointed.
This is a story about the oldest of the Callaghan clan, Kane Callaghan, nicknamed the Iceman. An Alpha man who does not play well with others. He much rather be alone in his cabin fishing then being involved with family dinners and socials. He loves his 6 brothers and dad to death and would give his life to save any of them but a solitary life is what he likes best. No one has ever been able to break down the icy shield Kane has built around himself. Just as all his brothers, Kane is an Ex Navy Seal who still takes special black op's assignments. And it was during one of these special assignments he meets Rebecca. Rebecca Harrison has spent the last twelve years with humanitarian relief organizations, travelling to some of the hardest hit areas of the world, but none has ever affected her as much as that tiny village in Africa she is currently working in. She is a shy and loving woman who's very being is to give and help others. She mostly travels with a religious order of nuns and tirelessly aid and helps those in need. During a raid by rebel forces, most of the unarmed villagers and humanitarian workers are raped, torcher and murdered. During the fighting she is saved by Kane. This tiny, stubborn woman willing to sacrifice herself for him after he is shot would not leave him and demands he get back on his feet and run to safety. Though world apart they are bound by the events of that one horrible night, though the chances of ever meeting again are too small to dare even hope. Of course, neither one realizes just how clever Fate can be.
I highly recommend this book, Guardian Angel by Abbie Zanders. I would rate the sensual level a 7. Please note Ms. Zanders in this series has written on sensitive topics such as child slavery, child or adult rape, torcher. She handles all of these with a great deal of care without going into them graphically the reader still left with the horror. She is an incredible talented writer whom I have as a favorite.
I absolutely loved this story. I knew Kane's story was going to be good, but this was the best, most fantabulous and heartwrenching one by far.
We met and fell in love with the gruff loaner in Jake and Tarryn's story, but I wasn't sure who could fill the shoes of his croie. Rebecca was perfect. She is sweet and kind but also happy to be a loner with Kane.
Abbie Sanders you have mad skills. At 75% (a very crucial part) fireworks started going off outside my window. Not right outside my window, but down the street and around the corner, but seriously close. How Abbie managed to do that at that crucial moment was just plain magic. Ok, maybe the circus that had just come to town was really the reason, but literally at a VERY crucial moment fireworks were zinging.
Another wonderful installment in the Callaghan Brothers series. I felt emotionally attached to the characters and definitely wanted them to get their HEA. Can't wait to read more.
Ms Zanders, I'm thinking with that little sneaky peak into Aiden's "lifestyle choices" you should definitely consider writing his story...very intriguing.
This was my least favorite book in the series so far and it was a chore to finish it. Rebecca was boring, too naive, and fragile to have seen the things she'd seen in her life. I understood the characters need for solitude, but it was so boring to read about. Reading about longing looks at each other for most of the book is painful. Also, what 30-something year old woman wears bunny pajamas? I understand the authors point, but I don't see a woman that has been in the middle of wars and death and starvation being that innocent and naive. It just didn't compute. To me she just came across pitiful.
Kane had already been set up as aloof and cold, but he was more relaxed and warmer with Taryn in the first book than with Rebecca. He was much more likable in that story compared to this book.
Loves this one!!! May be my favorite so far. How refreshing as a concept of waiting for marriage!!!! But don't worry...this book is still steamy. I love how she builds her characters and their relationships. Very sweet and although there isn't as much action, I didn't miss it because I was so into wanting to see how Kane was going to soften as his new relationship grew. I loved how she gives him a women who can understand him and where his hard personality comes from yet she is not a "warrior" herself. I look forward to the next books but I'm sad there are only two more brothers!! Right now this is my most anticipated series!!!!
I can't wait for these books to be released and once again I wasn't disappointed. Though in my opinion Kane's story lacks a little of the drama some of the other brothers stories contained.
Another great book in the Callaghan series. should read the previous books in the series, they give you a good insight on Kane's character. Two brothers left can not wait for more. Best series in a long time.
While on a special ops mission, Kane (Iceman) Callaghan meets a woman he believes to be a nun, but is a aide worker. As he is attempting to save her life, she does the same for him. Kane is injured and doesn't even get to know the woman. He searches for her and she ends up showing up in the least unlikely place.
From there, Kane keeps an eye on her but keeps his distance.
The tension between the two of them is palpable and things escalate from there. Kane continues with his cavemanish behavior and things finally come to a head.
Will Kane be smart enough to grab onto true love, or will he let it slip through his fingers?
So very boring and extremely overrated - read on KU
I recommend stopping this series at book 4. Everything after is boring. My review for this book is almost the same as for the book 7 and book 6 wasn't a ton better. In both 5 and 7, the brothers pursue the women in some regard but then just sit back and do not much of anything. In this book, Kane pushes her away. He isn't the same man as we saw in the first book. That man was interesting. This one is not. In both 5 and 7, the couples don't get together until almost the end of the book. At least not physically and not in a true emotional capacity. They both either propose or essentially ask for forever without there having been much between them. It is especially bad in this book. Kane just up and asks her to marry him almost out of the blue.
I really had to push myself to read this. It and the rest of the series aren't like the beginning of the series. There is just a little bit of action at the beginning of this book and that is it.
I'm kind of surprised at the high rating for this book but I guess all the people who read the first couple and didn't decide to love everything this author ever writes just didn't read on. All these 5 star reviews have to be the type people who never write a bad review and have 5 star loyalty to every author they follow.
I got hooked on the Callaghan family and hoped I had found a new author to follow but this book and the next two made me decide not to read more of her works. If you have already read this one and didn't like it, I especially suggest you stop reading the series.
Ahhh.....Kane***sigh*** While not as much action oriented, this book had the signature deeply emotional plot stretching over months of time. I enjoy this because it gives the characters time to develop and change and grow in their connection. Kane has been my favorite since he appeared in book one protecting Taryn. Although he did make me really mad at one point of the story, Kane was everything I hoped he would be. His mate, Rebecca, was more than I could have imagined and perfectly fitted for him. The Callaghan brothers and wives play into the story in fairly significant ways, and I enjoyed "catching up" with them. There are two Callaghan brothers still single, and I can't wait to read their stories!
And with this book, AZ has become one of my all time favorite authors. Not that I didnt love the books I had read before- no I did- and this series started out so good too- but with the last two books of Kane and Sean, I'm a fan for life. This book constantly tugged at my heartstrings- having equal dose of angst and sweetness (keep the tissues ready). However, it was hard not to fall for Kane and Rebecca just in a few pages because everything about them was made for each other. I especially adored their silent moments and how they said so much without ever speaking, via their actions. Such a wonderful read. 10/5 stars/
She Melts The Iceman! Kane is the eldest of the Callaghan brothers and is known as the Iceman because of his serious demeanour. He saves Rebecca Harrison during a mission and she in turn saves him and then disappears. She haunts his dreams until she reappears in Pine Ridge. I really enjoyed this sweet couple and storyline. Abbie Zanders gives us another wonderful story about love and forgiveness. Both Kane and Rebecca have had to fight and conquer their demons. I love the way the brothers work with, and for each other, no matter what. Aiden Snow always gives us an enjoyable experience with his amazing voice and perfect narration.
I'm really disappointed in this book. I wanted to see Kane in action but besides his and Rebecca's first meeting I didn't get anything. I found it rather boring. Nothing major happened like in previous books.
I think Rebecca was a bit of a pushover and just accepted everything. She didn't confront Kane when he hurt her and she just forgave her parents for cutting her off after a brief conversation with her father. I know some will say she's a strong character and in some ways she is but I found her to be to complacent.
While I love this series, and cannot wait for the next one...I am going to be really sad when it ends. I look for Ms. Zanders to do great things in the romance novel world, and I look forward to being there. In the mean time, keep up the awesome work!
LOVE this series, so fun and entertaining. This one was different in that there was no mystery or damsel being chased, which was a nice change. Can't wait to see which brother is next....there are only 3 left :(. I will be sad when the series is over.
I have really enjoyed the story of all the boys finding their lives. My only problem is the author isn't writing fast enough, finishing up with the brothers. Still waiting on Dad finding a new love.o
I have read each of the books in this series & have enjoyed them all. I think the series & writing gets better with each book. This is my second favorite book in the series, and I'm ready for the next book.
This series is turning out to be one of the best ones I have read!!! 7 brothers that are all former seals and are now a special "Ghost" unit. They are all HOT, ALPHA MALES!!!!! Can't wait for the next books!!!!!!!
It only gets better. Kane's book I think might be my favorite of the 5 so far. If you haven't read the others yet then you really should. Cant wait for more.
This might be my favorite story yet, but it's so hard to choose I love them all. You have truly outdone yourself Ms. Zanders. I can't wait for what's next.
