Hello folks,
My name is Solomon Carter, and I am the author of the Roberts and Bradley PI crime thriller series, The Last Line international thriller series, the DI Hogarth Darkest series and more. I write mysteries, crime and thriller novels and more besides.

I was born in Southend, Essex and lived there for most of my life apart from eventful student days in South London. But my life in Southend was even more eventful still. I ended up working in a string of jobs including as a jobcentre clerk, a book seller, tutor for youth with low skills and low self esteem, mortgage broker, and latterly manager of a food bank which dealt with all kinds of interesting people facing all kinds of eye-opening, jaw dropping problems. Because of these ear-to-the-ground jobs the majority of my novels are set in Southend. In 2016 I moved to North Cornwall because I liked the idea of never-ending holidays - but I also write almost every single day. My aim is to write action-packed thrillers and page-turning mysteries that readers love and my hope is to get better at what I do with every book across each and every year.

I like to give away lots of free books as part of what I do. If you would like to receive some of these and get the exclusives on offer, than you're invited to join my free readers group at SolomonCarter.net. I won't spam you, just send the occassional email with news on the latest books and forthcoming freebies.

And if you want to see the memes, personal shares and other oddball stuff I do, then you can join me at Facebook via www.facebook.com/solomoncarterwrites and join the fun there too.

What I am good at: telling stories
What I am bad at: dancing, being patient.
What I love: nature, the seaside, adventures
Writers I heartily recommend: Lee Child, Ian Rankin, Henning Mankell, Val McDermid, Harlan Coben, Robert Crais.
Writers I need to read more of: Val McDermid, Ian Rankin, Michael Connelly and others.
Other things I do beside writing: at present I like to keep my running going to balance out the sitting behind a laptop (a habit inspired by Haruki Murakami's 'What I talk about when I talk about running' - a great book).
-I am currently doing surf lessons. When in Rome, as they say...
-Getting out into nature as the weather allows.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Until then I'll keep on writing. Or running. Or surfing. Or chasing my children around the house.

All the very best,
Solomon :)

if you have enjoyed any of my books, I'd be honoured if you could post a review. Those reviews really do help!

Bought 1-3 as free ebook on my Kindle. They weren't the best mysteries, but were enjoyable. I'd call them beach blanket books, fun for a summer read. I read book 1 and set them aside. When I had nothing to read, I went back and read book 2. Although they both had independent stories that could be read alone, there was an on going arc. When I finally picked up book 3, I expected the same. Book 3 needed some formatting and corrections and seemed to be sloppier then the other two. It ended abruptly at a cliffhanger. I suppose I shouldn't complain as they were free, but I resented the author hooking me into buying the next book because I was halfway through an unfinished story. I won't be buying the 4th. Leaving the story unfinished was a blatant marketing ploy and I dislike being manipulated in that way. Sorry Dan and Eva. I wish you well in whatever happens in the rest of your tales, but I won't be reading them.

Have just finished reading Long Time Dying books 1-3 and thought they were an excellent read. Each book can be read as a stand alone as explanations of previous incidents are explained just enough to put you in the picture. I like Dan and Eve very much and each book is not full of characters so easy to keep up with who's who.
My genre and style of writing.

Eva & Dan are a couple that work & play together but sometimes things just don't work out. In their PI business Eva is the more careful one she just doesn't go full steam ahead like Dan. The latest case was meant to be simple find the missing cop's brother bring him back to his family then everything would have been okay. But Dan had to push his luck and it probably was a good thing as they were able to get a couple of sick people of the streets. But Eva knows that Dan is taking too many chances and she just doesn't know how much more she can take. Eva's next case was meant to be simple get the girl to talk to the police and she would be safe. But Eva finds herself involved in sex trafficking and she isn't safe anymore. Will Dan be able to get to her before she loses her life? Eva realizes that she was so involved in saving someone that she never realized that she was been used by the very person that she was trying to save. Will her & Dan ever recover after this case? Move forward a couple of years Eva is doing well no high action death stuff for her anymore but the work is boring. Dan is no longer part of her life but he is about to cause so much trouble and she will try and help. Dan lost everything by lying to the police he did his time but no one wants to know him. He is a bum that sleeps wherever he can but he still believes that someone is out to get him but no one will listen. Eva knows that she shouldn't help Dan as he has already caused her so much pain but she decides to spend some time on his case and what she does learn is that Dan isn't been that paranoid and that someone wants to make sure that he dies but is it too late to save Dan?
A good read.

It became obvious that I'd started reading this volume of 3 stories part way through the Bradly and Roberts series. Since I really prefer to start a story at the beginning I found that a bit frustrating. Nevertheless all 3 were very enjoyable and believable. Once I'd started I had to read to the end to see what happened. It seemed as though all 3 stories ended before they should have so of course I had to read the next one. It's a bit annoying that the third one also did this so that it the reader wants to continue the very intriguing 3rd story, it's necessary to buy the next volume.
However, I did enjoy these books. The dynamic between Dan and Eva is quite strange and very strained. They are like chalk and cheese. Dan is a hot headed action man and Eva is cold, calculating and logical. In the 3rd book especially I found her annoying and unpleasant in that she refused to believe anything her ex lover and partner of 8 years told her and was unwilling to help him, even when he was as low as he could get, until she had the truth confirmed by someone else. I do wish I'd read their story from the beginning but I'll do just now and then I think it's worth carrying on with their story

Thought provoking

I enjoyed the collection of books 1,2 and 3. The reader gets to know the characters of Eva and Dan. How well they blend together in their working and private lives.
The cases are entertaining. Book 3 is a bit of a shock as the 2 main characters lives have changed but it is still an intense relationship which keeps the reader enthralled.
Carter ends his books at an important moment and leaves the reader on edge...l both love and hate this edge of seat moment. The waiting for the next book.
Though it is this ability to hook the reader at the end that means these books could be a great TV series. Eva Rogers and Dan Bradley investigators are brought to life by the author

Great opening

Sometimes you read the blurb on a book and it presents itself as the best thing ever written, only to find the best part of the book was the blurb, not so here.

I am working my way through Solomon's work and can honestly say that he is now one of my most favourite writers. Good storyline, strong characters and a real edge of the seat drama in every book.

If you haven't read any of his books before, and are thinking of giving them a go....stop thinking and do.

This set is doing well in the "pulp thriller" section of Amazon. Dan and Eva are private detective partners. They are also living together and the relationship is rocky. Dan is a former amateur boxer, emotional and goes from his gut. Eva is the cool rational one. The first two books end with a lot of action and excitement. The third ends with a cliffhanger. It was an okay read, but not good enough that I wanted to get the next set to find out what happened.

Brilliant!

Superb storytelling by a master of his art! The characters are well fleshed out and work their way into your mind like a tick. Dan Bradley, impetuous, courageous, Eva Roberts the beautiful and dogged investigator make up the two heroes of the stories. Believe me, you will not regret picking these books up!!

Exciting stuff

A good read and exciting, but I got a bit fed up with the constant arguing between Eva and Dan. Most of all, I always feel cheated when a novel doesn’t end properly in order to encourage you to buy the next book. This one ended particularly abruptly, in other words, didn’t end at all. Disappointing.

Purile rubbish

What a colossal waste if time, the author needs serious help, this us a juvenile rambling incoherent mess of words. Think of the 1000 monkeys typing scenario, thus is an early effort. Ridiculous characters, so contradictory lurching from page to page, inconsistent, unbelievable, 1 dimensional, absolute waste to time. Do not bother to attempt to read.

Not very clear Dan went in to prison for fudging evidence against a high profile criminal? Also he went into prison a very rich successful PI then came out and ended up homeless living on the streets! Why would Eva allow that? Book 3 ruined the trilogy for me! Also Very drawn out and long winded.

Eva Roberts PI teams up with former partner and now an ex-con Dan Bradley to find out who has put him on a hit list. Is this another one of Dans elaborate conspiracy theories? Action packed but Im not to keen on the characters.

Unbelievable

I only managed the first book. I can't bring myself to read the next one. The plot was so unbelievable. Surely it was a case for the police? Rubbish. It hasn't been proofread very well either as the punctuation is bad.

I liked the characters but the plots were a bit unbelievable. It was ok for a holiday read, not sure I would read more by this author and I certainly wouldn't have bought the second and third books after reading the first.

Distasteful theme, Author wrote well. Cliffhanger ending - that’s never a favorite of mine. Previous reviews were probably because of the sex industry plot, which as I wrote is distasteful (illegal, immoral, reprehensible...) but this novel may still be enjoyed.

Interesting read

Good yarn. Lots of action. Interesting characters. Characters well written and background of England gives it international flavor. You get a sense of who the characters are based on the writing.

Bad karma and an ex-partner

Eva is a detective with an ex-con ex-partner in trouble. She accepts the challenge to free him from his bad karma and encounters danger she didn't anticipate. The story is an age old one of unrequited love and undeserved loyalty.

PI series (that’s Pace & Intensity)

Good start to a pacy series of detective fiction. Why Eva bothers with Dan is difficult to fathom but now she has hold on for the ride!
First novels of an ongoing series, I look forward to the next episodes

A bit slow

I chose this rating as I felt the storyline was quite slow and rather dull in places. Certainly can't believe I read 3books and got an ending like that!
