A straight-up character-driven romance from 1995. No mystery or suspense or intrigue or spies or smuggling or kidnapping. No Other Man or Other Woman drama (not really necessary here, because the two main characters generated enough drama and heat between them to power a small city). Just a should-have-been simple story of two people meeting and falling for each other complicated by their own personality flaws.

Jared MacKade had so much pride he chaffed at loving a woman with an unknown but suspiciously shady past.

Where had she gone, what had she done, who had she been? As much as he wanted to get beyond that, his pride held him fast. She’d borne another man’s child, been other men’s fantasies. That thought stuck in the pride, in the ego, and refused to be shaken free. His problem. He knew it, rationalized it, debated it. As she shifted beside him, turning away rather than towards him, he worried over it. How many other men had she loved? How many had lain beside her, each wishing he was the only one?

Savannah Morningstar had managed her and her son’s life just fine on her own since she was sixteen years old, thank you very much, and felt her past didn’t need explaining or justifying to anyone, even the man she’d fallen in love with. He pushed; she pushed back. He staked his claim; she claimed he was free to go. He dumped his insecurity on her; she dumped his clothes in his front yard.

The bottom line is that both had valid points, but both were temperamental and stubborn and made mistakes, and I really enjoyed watching these two people hash it out, even if that’s all the book was. Savannah’s son was a genuine 9-year-old and an awesome kid, and Jared’s brothers were a hoot. I’d definitely like to read their stories also.

Could have done without the haunted woods and second sight business. I didn’t care about it and thought it added nothing to the story.

Ok, so... this book wasn't as good as the first one, but I liked it anyway.
Everytime I read Savannah's family name (which is Morningstar) I was thinking about the TV series "Lucifer". Because the main character's name in the TV series is Lucifer Morningstar. Anyway, this is only a funny detail.
This is the second book in the series and it's about the oldest brother in the MacKade family. Jared is a lawyer, who was married once before and has some issues regarding the idea of getting married again.
Savannah, on the other hand, is a single mother, who has a troubled past and has never been in love before.
What they both have in common, is the stubbornness. And trust me, this stubbornness made the book a little bit funnier.
I really appreciated that the idea of the dream and the hunted places was still a big part of the book. If the first book was about the hunted inn, now it was the hunted forest.
Nice story, but I needed more action. 😁

This is what we want in a heroine, a woman who stands up to the alpha man and meets him temper to temper. What she did to his clothes in the end was classic! 🤣
I sometimes read this love stories and want to shout at the women to grow a backbone. With this book every time I thought, "If this was me I'd..." Savanah went one step farther. Yep, a girl after my own heart.

3.5 Stars - An enjoyable Re-Read

Artist Savannah Morningstar and her son have finally found a home, happy and content what Savannah doesn't expect is attorney Jared MacKade - they clash from the get go, strong willed neither can deny the attraction that simmers between them but with Jared unable to let her past go issues arise.

The communication between Jared and Savannah at times was terrible, but not so much so that it drove me batty. The only thing that annoyed me was Jared throwing Savannah's past in her face.

Really like Savannah's son Bryan and the interactions between mother and son.

What a way to be surprised! I just felt in love with this brothers way too hard, I can't seem to get enough! I haven't been this gleefully and emotional about a series in this genre for way too long. It's not that it is one of those reads that will take your breath away because it's too emotive to bare, it's just a short and realistic type of read. I adore the books in this series because they are fun, fast paced and the romance is AMAZING. I never liked Nora Roberts till I started this series, now I can really comprehend why everybody loves her this much. She has an amazing writing style, one that makes me wanna read more and more.

In this installment we get to read about our hot and sexy MacKade lawyer. I must admit I was really sad because book 2 would be about him. I just wanted to read about Dev first, the Sheriff. For some reason I though Jared wouldn't be as compelling, but boy was I wrong. I just had a blast of a time with this book. I loved the hero and the heroine so much. And I must admit I have a huge soft spot for stories with young kids on it, I just love to get different perspectives of the story and when we read about the way a boy of 9 years old sees it how can't we love the book? I know the read seems short but I swear I feel I get much more from it than from most of the reads I have been reading lately. I haven't been this in love with a cont-romance series since the Chicago Stars series, and those who follow my reviews know how much I loved those books. I think that I got to love this series so much after the second book because now I can say the characters in it are really different from each other and unique. I love that about books, when an author is able to create different characters with their own personalities. This way they just seem more real, and those are the type of books I enjoy the most.

I just really wanna recommend the books in it to you all guys! Specially because I usually can't stand to read many books in the same genre on a row but now I just can't stop. That's when I know a book is really good, because it's not humanly possible for me to let it go.

I really enjoyed this mainly because of the heroine, she was tough as nails who made no apologies for what she had to do to give a good home for her son, she could take on the world, out cuss anyone and didn't allow anyone to intimated her. She respected herself even if she had no education and got pregnant at sixteen, she had led a tough life with a rodeo dad who kicked her out but she never wallowed instead brushed it off and moved on.

The hero had never met anyone like her, the eldest and lawyer he wasn't used to someone not needing him or answering his questions and yeah he pissed me off sometimes the way he dwelled on her past but I got over it because he was insecure and madly in love and scared.

Now, off to read about the next brother.

Setelah sekian abad, sekian purnama menghindar baca buku tante Nora Roberts (pengecualian JD Robb), baru kali ini saya baca buku author lagi, krn GD lagi "pelit" update buku-buku romance terjemahan terbaru.

Intinya sih, demi cinta jangan gengsi. Jared melakukannya dgn baik dlm hal ini. Gak kebayang kalau Jared nya juga gampang tersinggung, buyar dah seketika. Jared memang tipe anak sulung idaman, duda keren (walau rada sedikit lebay juga tante NR mendeskripsikannya). Pokoknya pencinta bacaan romance HQ, I recommended this books for all of you.

This has THE most amazing dialogue between two strong, self-made people who have a lot of pride and find they're crazy in love with each other, which scares them so totally they start messing it up.

I enjoyed that La Nora went with goddess-like woman of Native-American descent - these days I think I would imagine her like Disney's Pocahontas (with a sensitivity to spirits - if you think about it I would think this series was both a prototype for the Chesapeake Bay books and the Flower trilogy) but hardly any formal education, because life just didn't work that way.

I adore her interaction with her son, and for that matter Jared's interaction with him. Jared's usual m.o. was so well introduced that you could see the train wreck coming when he got in too deep with Savannah who was much more willing to accept her lucky breaks, because this had made her change her life for the better before. Even though she had deep and understandable insecurities about measuring up to certain standards of class and a healthy fear of the police.

Seeing it coming made Jared being a total dickhead no easier to take and while Savannah's reaction was just delightful to read (and had his brothers in stitches), I really think he didn't grovel enough for the pain he put her through.

But you know I'm squarely on Savannah's side - and if she and her son want Jared MacKade even if he is stupid enough to let his pride get in the way of trust and love, well then more power to them.

The Pride of Jared MacKade
3 Stars

It is a testament to Nora Roberts' writing that this story was enjoyable despite the fact that the heroine is utterly unlikable and unappealing.

Savannah Morningstar is quite simply a B*TCH and I never use that word lightly! Not only is she rude and obnoxious, but she is prejudiced and vindictive as well. The reasoning is that her actions are ostensibly a defense mechanism, but this is insufficient to explain her inexcusable behavior.

Jared MacKade is stubborn and proud but he certainly hasn’t done anything remotely bad enough to deserve Savannah as his heroine. Even his obvious double standards when it comes to men and women don’t warrant this.

The story of the civil war antagonists which bothers so many reviewers is actually one that I enjoyed. Nevertheless, it is underdeveloped and the connection to the modern day characters is tenuous at best.

Hopefully the next installment will provide more of a link.

Better than the first one. Maybe because we have an heroine with a strong story behind. He tries to understand her but he fails because he's a lawyer, everything should be black or white and with her he cannot figure out the good and the bad.

I love Mackade family, they are caring and strong and they are ready to protect each other. Besides there's a continuum with the first story and we cannot appreciate developments in MacKade family.

I'm already on 3rd book, which is about an abused woman and her children and a sheriff who just want to protect them.

Book two in the MacKade brother series is the story of lawyer Jared.
Jared is the oldest of the brothers, and the most shrewd and realistic. Already having being burned by a bad marriage, he keeps his eyes open. When the single mother Savannah moves in on the outskirts of his land, he goes in to deliver her property papers- but she continues to be as rude to him as she was to his calls. Slowly they unravel each other and insecurities come to light.
Now the positives about this book
- I really enjoyed reading about Connor and Bryan- and their friendship
- The strength of Savannahs character
The negatives
- The way Savannah dealt with her insecurities
- The H and h had terrible communication
- The way Jared keeps throwing Savannahs past at her
Overall, I didn't enjoy much of it. I didn't feel the couple suited at all- both too headstrong for one another.

I loved all 4 MacKade Brothers books but this one's my favourite. Why?Heroine Savannah Morningstar just plain works for me. She's unapologetic about her past, lives life on her own terms and knows when she's had enough. The scene where she lets Jared know that she's finished with him (without using words)works so well(and induces extreme writer envy)! Besides, Jared does good grovel. And the relationship between the brothers... that works too.

The Pride of Jared MacKade was an excellent read featuring a romance between a reformed bad boy turned lawyer and an artist single mother.

Jared MacKade's competitive nature as a kid led him to his chosen career path as a lawyer. When Jared is asked by a colleague to track down Savannah Morningstar to deliver some news, he figures a quick stop on his way home will be enough to get the job done. But when Jared meets Savannah, he's immediately captivated by her despite her cool exterior. Savannah has no time for romance as a single mother, least of all with a man like Jared. But as the pair spend time together, Jared finds himself falling for Savannah and her son. But with Savannah's trust issues, will Jared be able to convince her to take a chance on love?

All of the MacKade brothers were considered wild in their youth, often ending up on the wrong side of the law. Now Jared is a lawyer who defends the law rather than breaking it. Jared has always had a picture of how his life would turn out and he's worked towards that goal most of his adult life. Jared could be a bit frustrating at times as he can be quite rigid but he thankfully loosened up as the book went on. Savannah got pregnant when she was a teenager and was thrown out by her father as a result. In the years since, Savannah has worked hard to give her son a good life and to make sure no one can anything from her ever again. I enjoyed Savannah's strong will and how honest she was.

Jared is fairly smitten with Savannah immediately upon meeting her while Savannah is more apprehensive despite being attracted to him. Eventually Savannah agrees to go on a date with Jared and I thought they had amazing chemistry. Their relationship develops fairly quickly from that point but that's not to say it's not without issue. Savannah has a tendency to move on from bad things that happened in the past and so she doesn't really talk about them. Jared is the type who needs to know everything and there's a bit of conflict between them when Jared keeps pushing and insisting Savannah should be reacting another way. I will say I found Jared's behavior to be quite frustrating in those instances and I enjoyed the way Savannah dealt with it. Ultimately the pair work out their issues and I was happy with where their relationship ended up.

Overall The Pride of Jared MacKade was a great read and I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series, The Heart of Devin Mackade, soon.

I liked this one better than the first! As with the first, I enjoyed the town atmosphere. I also really loved seeing how Savanah's son Bryan made friends with Cassie's kids (especially since I'm looking forward to her and Devin's story the most 😌). I liked both the hero and the heroine much more than the first book. Savanah moreso than Jared--some of his thinking patterns were quite odd, he'd make problems out of absolutely nothing lol

Jared MacKade and Savannah Morningstar's book was absolutely unforgettable. After finishing Rafe's story, I didnt' think this series could get any better but I was wrong. "The Pride of Jared MacKade" took me from one end of the emotional spectrum to the other. Reappearances by characters from the first book add so much more to this story, along with an adorable little boy you'll cheer and hope that his dreams come true. There are so many wonderful conversations in this book that tug at your heart, make you laugh-out-loud and bring tears to your eyes. Most of all, this book will leave you wanting more.

3.5 PROUD STARS!

This series will probably be considered quite dated now, but I have to confess they have been very enjoyable to listen to. The brothers all come across as hunky dunky which in my humble opinion is always a bonus. The banter between them is highly entertaining in a bish, bash, bosh, brotherly way. The H and h's story is sweet and the paranormal story which continues is really quite interesting.

These audiobooks were given to me from my lovely Auntie and I'm very greatful to her as I wouldn't have purchased them and would have therefore missed out on a sweet if a little predictable series.

Next please....!

This has always been my least favorite of this quartet and this time it was because of the wanton property destruction at the end. I'm sorry, you can be be as pissed as you want, but destroying someone's things and being glad, is not being passionate. And it does not make me want you to stay together.

The kid is great, though. Her kid writing is underrated.

I'm toast in the way the guy wanted the love of his life in his life.
I'm through with the second one and it earned 5 stars outta me. I'm thrifty with my rating, but let's see what's there with the other two in the series.
