Rate this book
Kaevan is tall, dark, mysterious, and one of the most feared Vampire warriors within the Blood Reign Coven, the lead warrior to be exact. He is also the right hand advisor and protector of the coven's leader, Mikhail. With his unwavering loyalty, he faithfully guards and offers his council to his liege without question. So, when his leader and his best friend found his mate in a human woman, Kaevan was happy for Mikhail. But Kaevan's world was turned upside down when the beautiful woman arrived at the coven house with her little brother, Phelan in tow. Kaevan took one look at the gorgeous little human and everything about the boy triggered the vampire’s most primal, possessive, and protective instincts. Kaevan was bound and determined to convince his skittish little love interest that he was the only one that could love and cherish Phelan the way he deserved. Read to see how the fierce warrior opens his heart and his world to the love of his life, in hopes that Phelan will be able to accept him as his true mate.

Questionable word choices

Not a bad story. The premise was okay, but the execution was lacking. The worst part was the over the top word choices. Particularly the 'carnivorous shower'. I'm sure the author meant cavernous, but the overly flowery language made it seem like she wrote with a thesaurus by her side. Try using normal language next time and make sure the characters look like the cover art and don't change hair color from one chapter to the next, (raven hair is never dark blonde).

First of all, the editing was bad. Missing and incorrect punctuation, missing and extraneous words, typos and incorrect words ("impeding nuptials" should've been "impending nuptials"), run-on and fragmented sentences, switched tense and POVs, not to mention the wannabe purple prose. The purple was simply annoying after the book had not started out that way; the language was very modern and was actually funny, so I had higher hopes. Of course, I was let down.

Outside of Kaevan and Mikhael, none of the characters were particularly likeable or stood out. The story would have been better if the relationship had been between the 2 of them. The other issue I had with the plot was Alyn. The story stressed the hierarchy and how everyone knew their place, except for Alyn. His repeated disrespect was clearly solely for the purpose of creating drama; everyone else was afraid of Kaevan but this "feeder" vampire not only didn't fear him but was constantly disobeying him and doing as he pleased. That made no sense, unless he was mentally unstable. Lastly, reading this made me feel like this writer studied every installment of the Twilight Saga and incorporated whatever she thought she could get away with without it being noticed.

When I started to read this book I prepared myself for an hour and some of well-deserved downtime (really busy day) filled with sexy vampires...I mean what could go wrong - it is the perfect length (around 100 pages),you have big dark vampire and warrior at that, and skittish little human. I mean, really, what could go wrong?

Well, before I state what was wrong (because obviously something was given the rating),let's say what was good. I love the idea that vampires feed only from vampires, not humans because they cannot sustain them enough. I mean, considering the fact how huge success are JR Ward's BDB books,I'd thought people will start using more that concept. I'm not saying that author ripped off the idea,I'm just stating it as a good thing...I also liked that Kaevan's mate was seen as flawed,he has some joint disease and has deformed arm,and that caused him to be insecure and so he has problems with opening up to Kaevan.
Aaaand,that would be it...

Now,what I had problem with was writing...I personally don't like too much telling but this was taking it to a whole new level. What I mean is that 90% of the story was telling! And I think I am being generous,'cause believe me,conversation was almost nonexistent. Now,I've read few books, that have more telling than usual (although nothing like this),which were good, even great books. But reading this book was like..I don't know...did you ever asked a friend to retell you a book you were supposed to read for school (but didn't)? Well,to me it was exactly like that...if you know what I mean.

Good story

I really liked this story. Sexy Vampire and cute human who is his mate. I loved the dynamic of their relationship. Phelan feeling he wasn't good enough and that he was broken and unworthy in some way, and Kaevan being so gentle and caring with him. Great romantic story!

This author has an abundance of fluff reads, most still unpublished on Wattpad. They are sugary sweet, but the twinky characters are adorable and the alpha males are uber alpha.

DNF. Thought I'd try an M/M vampire book for a change but it didn't work for me.
