Long ago, Fiona McPherson made a sacred vow to never let her clan fall or be absorbed into another. Honor will not allow her to break her oath. Devastated she leaves Caelen McDunnah heartbroken on the stairs of his keep — turning away from the only man she has ever truly loved. Still, she is determined to prove that Caelen is not behind the attacks.
Will Caelen McDunnah’s heart ever know peace again?
Wrongly accused, Caelen enlists the help of Angus McKenna, chief of the Clan MacDougall. Spies are sent far and wide to help uncover the truth. Undeterred by Fiona’s belief that they can never be together, Caelen must find a way to make Fiona his wife.
USA Today Bestselling Author, storyteller and cheeky wench, SUZAN TISDALE lives in the Midwest with her verra handsome carpenter husband. All but one of her children have left the nest. Her pets consist of dust bunnies and a dozen poodle-sized, backyard-dwelling groundhogs – all of which run as free and unrestrained as the voices in her head. And she doesn’t own a single pair of yoga pants, much to the shock and horror of her fellow authors. She prefers to write in her pajamas. Suzan writes Scottish historical romance/fiction, with honorable and perfectly imperfect heroes and strong, feisty heroines. And bad guys she kills off in delightfully wicked ways. She published her first novel, Laiden’s Daughter, in December, 2011, as a gift for her mother. That one book started a journey which has led to more than twenty published titles. To date, she has sold more than 750,000 copies of her books around the world. They have been translated into Italian, French, German, and Spanish. You will find her books in digital, paperback, and audiobook formats.
I just loved Fiona and Caelen's 2nd book of "Caelen's Wife". I wanted it to continue. I did not give this a 5 Star rating because I do not like the concept of dividing one book into 3 parts at all. It is really frustrating to me. I truly dislike when an author does that, it turns loyal readers off and sadly away.
I have continued to purchase Caelen's Wife in parts because I love this author. I am hoping that this is the last time this is done. I want to read a whole story and not have to stop abruptly in the story and have to wait long periods of time. I am very truthful with my reviews and I know gifted authors truly appreciate sincerity from the readers who pick their stories to read.
I sincerely hope Ms. Tisdale goes back to writing full stories.
In my review on the first book in this series, Caelen's Wife: Book One - A Murmur of Providence (Clan McDunnah Series 1), I complained long and hard about Caelen McDunnah's persona being unrecognizable. In this book, we are reacquainted with our old Buddy Caelen and he's all that he should be. However, a huge problem for me was that he and Fiona had only two chapters together. That's right. They were together in the Prologue and Chapter 1, then had no contact with one another until the last chapter of the book.
I don't get it. Yes, there was continued setting up of the back story - that being yet another horrendous attack on a family of crofters, as Fiona and Caelen separately try to figure out who the villains are, but basically not much of a romance. Unless you want to consider Fiona pining away daily because she rejected Caelen's marriage proposal. That's not to say the story wasn't interesting, but I was looking forward to some romantic time with Caelen and Fiona.
Last, and this is spoilerish so don't read on if you don't want to learn something about Fiona's looks. Remember how Fiona was portrayed in Book #1 relative to her plain looks? It is now revealed that the "not-so-good-looking" comments have all been a scheme set up by her mother who persuaded the family to cooperate, so Fiona wouldn't grow up conceited and evil. Apparently, she grew up with the family continually casting doubts on her beauty. So, does she indeed have a broken nose, an overbite and somewhat stringy hair, or is she a tall, blonde, bonny lass? Who knows? Didn't they have mirrors in those days, or at least the possibility of a look-see in a clear river or lake? Perhaps we'll get a different story in Book #3. I just hope we have more of Caelen and Fiona togetherness.
Lest anyone reading my reviews on this series misunderstand - I'm a huge Suzan Tisdale fan. If you've ever read my reviews on some of her other books, it's evident by the 5 starred reviews I've given them. So far, however, this series has been a disappointment for this fan.
'A Whisper of Fate' is the second book in the McDunnah Series, and it picks up right where the first one left off. This second book begins with a kiss, and a giggle (from me) as Fiona declares, "Me womanly parts be broken!" You will have to read the book to see why.
Fiona has to make a choice, will she choose Caelen, or her clan. Caelen gets Fiona's answer when awakens and she is no where to be seen. He refuses to let go of the hope that she will so day be his wife. So he sets off to get a assistance from a neighboring clan in helping find out who is responsible for the raids, and deaths on Fiona's land.
This second book was full of action, a little bit of mystery and romance. I found myself laughing out loud in a few scenes. I enjoy a little humor with my romance! If you found yourself a little disappointed when the first in the series ended, this one will more than make up for that.
There are a few questions answered, and a few left unanswered. You will not be disappointed in the ending. I am looking forward to the third book in the series: A Breath of Promise, which will be out on March 24th. I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys historical romance, and a wonderful story.
Kissing- Contains a few heavy kisses Sexual Content- Closed door sex Cursing- Very few, if any
I can't get enough of Suzan tisdale books. Whisper of fate, loved it, my two favorite people. Caelen and Fiona. It's just so amazing to see the caelen fall in love and willing to do anything to protect his love. Aww so sweet.
This one, I think, has to be the best Just like the first one, you cannot stop reading. The book is much fun, and it is funny, adventurous, and exciting. The chemistry between Caelen and Fiona is fun to watch. She brings such magic into her books. You love the characters and the story line.
My only complaint with this part of the trilogy is the reader is reminded of Fiona's selflessness in putting the needs of her clan ahead of her own desires - ad nauseam. Other than that, this was more of a bridge or arc leading us into the home stretch. Mostly a bit of suspense but not a lot of romantic entanglement.
I loved this second part of Caelen and Fiona's story. Reading it, so many emotions are involved. The hard and sometimes cruel life of that era in the Highlands really comes across thru Suzan Tisdale's amazing writing. My heart broke reading how the 2 small children lost their parents, I was mad for Fiona and the situation she is in. But I also laughed at some humorous situations, Brodie and Noira, or Fiona's sisters-in-laws interference and Fiona's reactions to them. It ended with a hint that Caelen and Fiona will have the HEA they so well deserve, at least I hope so. I actually let out a loud grrrrr when I got to the end LOL way to end this book right when it got interesting. Now I can't wait for March 27th!!!
Caelen, a self reliant, strong willed, violence loving Scot, would, after 15 years of mourning his first wife and child, would run across a very talented and intriguing to tiny warrior. Fiona, thrown into the unwanted role of chief of her small clan. Sabotage and intrigue are the ever present issues laced throughout the story. If you like strong, braw Highlanders, intrigue, betrayal, strong opinionated women and romance, you'll love book one and book two of this series! I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.... Mrs. Tisdale adds so much depth to her characters and vivid descriptions of places and traditions there in Scotland, are fabulous. This is a can't put down read!
Suzan is an absolutely awesome writer! She has done it again! In this book, Caelen and Fiona finally admit their love for each other. Caelen wants to marry her, but she won't marry because she promised her father-in-law, husband, and her father that their clan wouldn't be absorbed into another clan. She leaves a heartbroken Caelen in his keep to go home and prove he isn't responsible for all the havoc that someone has caused. In the meantime, Caelen goes to another friend's keep to see if they can find out any information about who the real culprit is. This book made me cry and laugh. I can't wait for the last book to come out. Please get all 3 books. You definitely won't be sorry you did.
A real page Turner that will keep you glued to your kindle! This excellent story kept me entertained and intrigued. Be sure to buy the book that has the trilogy all in one or you'll be stunned to find yet another cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the next book to see how it all ends and read more of Suzan Tisdale's Medieval books. So far she has been a clean read author which is worth an extra star!
I could not put it down until I was done, you won't be able to either!! I love Suzan Tisdales books, and all her others " sisters " as well. ;-) a definite must read!
It is continuing story of Fiona and Caelen. Loved how these two strong people finally realize that they love each other. Also can't help laughing at some of the things that come out of Fiona's mouth. Have to read to find the funny moments.
I chose this trilogy because I married a Scotsman. I wanted to learn more about the rich heritage and traditions of Scotland. The mystery and intrigue are super and I have enjoyed both books greatly.
The story kept you on your toes. Especially when you were waiting and wondering if Calen would make it to stop a wedding that turned out for the better.
This is the second of the books in the Clan McDunnah series. As mentioned in my review for the first book, there is now a collection of all three of the books in the series available as a single book.
It’s another good book. By now Caelen and Fiona have managed to agree that they love each other, and Caelen wants to marry Fiona. However, Fiona has promised her dying husband and father-in-law that she won’t let anything happen to Clan McPherson. If she marries Caelen, the head of the McDunnah clan, her clan would be absorbed into his. So, the drama continues and intensifies.
The inquiry into who is trying to start a clan war continues. Fiona meets with most of her neighbors to discuss the matter, while Caelen visits one of his friends from further away to find out what he can. At Fiona’s meeting, one of the other clan leaders offers her a different kind of marriage proposal. He doesn’t want to marry her himself, but will give her a chance to marry his nephew, an unassuming widower with a daughter who he promises won’t try to take over her clan. In addition, he will offer a hundred fighting men for in case there is a war.
Fiona has nearly made up her mind to refuse this offer, no matter how tempting it is when they hear that a family of the McPherson crofters has been attacked and killed while their croft has been burned. Their children have been found wandering, trying to make their way to the keep.
Reluctantly, Fiona decides to marry Bhuric MacKinnon.
But then she discovers that Bhuric is in love with another of the women in her clan.
An excellent middle part to this 3 book series. The major thing I didn't get, there is an "Introduction" at the beginning of the book that gives away what is going to happen in the first chapter. So if anyone doesn't like spoilers, they will want to skip the introduction (which read as if it should have been an introduction to the 3rd book, not the 2nd book.) The book features a lot of action and adventure, with little time for romance between Caelen & Fiona. There is a lot of character development of minor characters, which really helps to flesh out this book. Fiona has an interesting back-story concerning why she believes she is so "plain." One thing that was not explained, was why Fiona would have to give up being chief if she married Caelen. Considering that they lived close enough that Caelen was able to visit her daily for a week or so, and Caelen's people were used to him being away for months at a time fighting battles, there doesn't seem to be any reason why they couldn't each continue on being chief and switch between castles every few days or once a week or so. Without an explanation, this did seem like a bit of manufactured angst for the couple. Fiona's character development shows her head-strongness and rashness. While this often leads to her gullibility, it adds an interesting element to her persona
I truly enjoy every moment of your books Suzan! I'm trying to get the whole series so I can continue to read them in order, but had to re-read the first book because I didn't have this one until just recently. I appreciate the details, language, weapons etc.. I don't need much sexual content to be able to enjoy the relationships between the character's, so your story kept me turning pages I've read rather than turning them because the content makes me uncomfortable. It has to be hard to keep this balance, but your stories do it very well. Thanks for another great book as I move on to book three of this collection.
The plot thickens around the McPherson's keep and Caelen and Fiona's love story has new trials to sort through. Page after page you gets sucked into this ancient world where friends and enemies are not easily discerned and love tries to find its way to fully blossom. I can't wait to get to the end of this series.
‘Caelen’s Wife, Book 2: A Whisper of Fate,’ has been a page-turner. The characters were brilliantly written and the storyline, was a ever compelling. I am truly loving all the fiercely loyal, strong, and capable women in the Clan McPherson.
The story continues, as does the intrigue. Thankfully, everyone is now expressing their love, so SOME issues have been resolved. But others keep growing steadily worse. On to part three!!
I am loving this series. Suzan Tisdale has a new fan! Moving on to book three of the Clan McDunnah series. I can not wait to find out what happens next.
The story continues with no clue to the reason for the raids or raiders. Fiona finally admits to loving Caelen. A wedding is interrupted by a furious Caelen. No end yet.
I can't wait to read the third book. Love the characters and story. Lady warriors its about time women learned to defend themselves in this time zone. Great read.
