The Seattle Svensson Brothers #3

Mr. Emotionally Unstable

Rate this book
Someone is breaking into my house… and cleaning my kitchen.
At first, I think I’ve lost my mind. Then I decide it’s kinda nice—until the death threats start.

But worrying about stalkers is for people with disposable time.
Which I do not have, thanks to my entire family showing up unannounced to move in with me.
Yay! Surprise houseguests!

As a mature adult woman in her thirties, my stalker is the closest thing to a relationship I’ve had in years. No one’s lining up for a curvy woman with a bad attitude, bras with holes in them, and zero tolerance for man-children.
And no, Mom, I don’t need you giving my number to every creepy guy you meet at the grocery store.
I’m perfectly happy being single. I have my café, my neurotic overweight border collie, and the shadowy figure peering into my window. I don’t need a man.

Except… I do need to find my newly single little sister a boyfriend-slash-meal-ticket so she (and the rest of my houseguests) will move out.
I’d toss her to my mystery stalker, but he did my laundry, and I’m not ready to give up on those perks yet. Besides, I’ve already got the perfect man for billionaire, hot, and way out of my league.
Better yet, I no longer have a crush on him, at least not since Fitzgerald Svensson served me eviction papers with a side of insults disguised as flirting.

Now he keeps showing up at my sister’s dates.
Yes, it’s a group activity. We’re recreating our toxic childhood dynamics here, m’kay?
Which means he must be interested… right?
Only problem—he’s hanging around me instead of her.

But it’s an even bigger problem when I wake up one night pinned by a six-foot-five male with his hand over my mouth, his knee spreading my legs, whispering in my ear, “Surprise, Creampuff.”

This is a standalone romantic comedy with a food delivery addicted dog, a hilarious Granny and a heroine of a certain age who has lowered her standards. HEA guaranteed!

Do people really find this funny? This old fashioned slapstick laughing at people not with them?
I am surprised how highly rated this was it wasn’t funny and I found it really cringe.

It’s been 2 months and I still can’t believe how much I hate this book. I’ve put the author on do not read now.

So, at first, I thought this was going to be fun – completely over-the-top, but at least entertaining. But the humour waned quite quickly, and all in all, I found this quite a sinister and unpleasant book. By about 30% I was reading it out of morbid curiosity.

Look, it’s a stalker romance. I’m not going into this expecting the MMC to be well-adjusted, or normal, or the relationship to be 100% healthy. I get that. But this completely lacked the appeal a lot of this kind of romance can have.

Partly, this book was just a bit weird. The humour fell flat. Comedic characters such as her grandmother just weren’t funny; the way her family and others walked all over her didn’t make any sense. Winnie’s characterisation was completely inconsistent: is she so nervous around men that she moons over Fitz and hides from him when he approaches, or is she an ex-investment banker ballbreaker? Why can she assert herself in some situations but allow her family, who she doesn’t even like, to move into her house, as well as her horrible, cheating ex who is also her sister’s horrible, cheating ex, and his mother? (As an aside – what was the deal with her house? Was it ever-expanding? I lost track of who was sleeping where, how many rooms it had.)

It was also massively overlong; it’s a really bloated book. The plot is repetitive and not particularly well-constructed. It’s all over the place. There were too many attempts at plot twists that didn’t make any sense and too many repetitive storylines.

Romance-wise, Winnie and Fitz had very little chemistry and the book took virtually no time to show them getting to know one another outside of the stalking storyline or their weird sex life. There’s very, very little softness or tenderness in this book. Fitz is very harsh and aggressive towards her, even when something bad happens to her (more on that later). Fitz is one of the worst things about the book: he is probably one of the most cartoonish and flat characters I’ve read. He’s distinctly unpleasant for most of the book, mercurial and unkind, bullying and critical. I saw no redeeming features for him. Even his ‘love’ for Winnie didn’t feel genuine. I get the possessive angle books like this go for, but that is it: he only seems to view her as one of his possessions.

Which, fine, okay, that’s a part of books like this. But this book never felt like he actually liked her. Wanted to sleep with her, yes, but actually cares about her as a person? No. There was virtually no work done to show a proper foundation to this relationship at all. Ultimately he was just a very nasty character and Winnie absolutely deserved better.

But the biggest sin of this book was its attitude towards sexual violence. Winne is repeatedly sexually harassed or actually assaulted by numerous men over the course of the book, but this is never treated as being the case. Fitz rescues her from other men about to assault her and treats her like its her fault, and then its never addressed again. And even worse, some of these scenes are played for laughs, as if we’re meant to find this funny. The most egregious scene of this type in the book is the one involving a hockey player, Carlo,

There were some pluses, sort of; I liked Winnie’s relationship with her sister, Kathy, and how it developed over the course of the book. I liked the take on the baker FMC and that Winnie was actually successful in terms of business and finances, instead of struggling. And I liked that his brothers repeatedly called him out on his creepy, predatory behaviour.

But, that was it. Overall, I thought this was a very poor showing. It’s scattily written – plot points are raised and then dropped – poorly constructed, the central romance is unpleasant, Winnie is repeatedly abused or harassed by men and this is treated as a punchline and minimalised by the story. Fitz is a horrible character. This book left a bad taste in my mouth, and I don’t think I’ll read anything by this author again.

Content Notes: Stalker MMC, hate-to-love.

DNF - I quit after chapter 2. The scene is childish and dialogue is ridiculous for those that get secondhand embarrassment (me!).
A 30 some year old woman who owns a cafe is hiding behind the counter because her crush “the guy” is there…
“The guy” should have been told not to come back after saying the new girls tits were fake. Not after the FMC makes an ass of herself. It’s not awkwardly charming. It’s making herself look like an idiot.
Her friend shouts out that if the new girl can get dates so can FMC right in front of him… who does this? Apparently the usual BFF character does.
Chapter 2 almost had me thinking I would continue reading the book and then her family shows up and force their way into her house to move in… nope.
I always want to like Alina Jacob’s books but this is something I just can’t get through right now… maybe if I tell myself it’s supposed to be a spoof of romance novels… idk

Somehow I made it to 59%, but I just can’t keep reading this. It’s basically rage bait at this point.

Clearly others liked it, but for me the FMC who’s supposed to be a strong bada** boss lets her incredibly toxic, whiny, greedy absolutely DELUSIONAL family walk all over her constantly. She has no spine at all. She hides behind her own stores counter at the very start! She’s what-30? And the MMC? I honestly don’t remember much about him because I personally found him very bland and cookie cutter. The FMCs family is just a big group of gold digging a**holes. Honestly the dog seemed to be the most intelligent one - brining correct wine and ingredients out.

Personally nothing about this book has been enjoyable for me. The over the top characters, plot, and humour? Pass.

wow. this was just awful.

I feel like I wasted time I’ll never get back. This book makes absolutely zero sense. The main character Winnie is just hateful. All she does is complain and be mean to like everyone she comes into contact with. As a reader you hate her. I just really got tired of her voice in this book. Plus, if she’s such a “strong” woman, why the hell can’t she just tell Knox to shove it? Why is she letting the family treat her like a cash cow? NOTHING makes sense!!!
I thought Fitz was funny in an unhinged kind of way. But he really had no actual personality. Instead, he was every troupe ever depending on what chapter you were on.
This book has no real plot line. It’s so terrible and such a waste of time. Do yourself a favor and don’t read it.

Readers beware this book…. was so disturbing. Winnie honestly had zero backbone and ended up settling for bare minimum from Fitz. He was awful, like truly awful. This book was basically rapey and unhealthy obsessing. Like the side ally scene and while she was sleeping was honestly not okay in any form, there was zero consent and it was disgusting in my opinion. I ended up laying the book down and went back just to read the ending and it was also terrible. Winnie deserves better and Fitz seriously needed therapy, not a romance arc. I’ve read dark romance that had better plot, consent, and connection than this “comedy”. It also wasn’t funny it was the same punch line over and over.

DNF @ 48%

I only read the first two books to get to this one as the blurb looked super cute.

Boy howdy was I wrong.

Are we sure this author is a female? Like, has anyone actually met her in real life? If so, has this person ever had sex, if so it couldn't have been good sex. Each FMC is a doormat, there's nothing funny going on and the romances are abysmal.

I DNFed this book in particular because the MMC assaults the FMC in a dirty alley, condom free, while going back and forth from vaginal to anal penetration. NO female I know would allow this - that's a BV infection in the making. Everyone knows not to go from one hole to the other. It's unhealthy.

I honestly wish I would've DNFed the first book and gave up on this author - but here we are.

ZERO STARS!!! DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!!

This has to be one of the worst books I've read in awhile and I have read a lot of trash. The FMC has no backbone and I want to dive in the book and slap the bitch. No chance in hell would I allow my freeloadering family live in my house after their poor life decisions. Throw in the fact that she calls him "DADDY" i had to have a throw up bucket on hand. Also can she not just kick Knox in the junk and tell everyone he's a fucking creep. Stalker yay but wtf?! And how do women swoon when called a slur. The assault charges I would have if anyone called me that as often as it's said in this book, have some self respect! The women in this book are psychotic and should be hospitalized! Get a grip, get a life and I really wish I didn't NEED to finish this book just to see how terrible it was and waste days of my life because something that should have taken a day to read took me several. It was painful and please spare yourself the turmoil. I don't care if Granny and her dick pillows were funny or if her dog can make its own food and trained to retrieve wine, it's not worth it. Do not start, just pass and run away from this epic tragedy.

Awful, unlikable characters. The main characters are disturbingly bad, the side characters are annoying. This series was a total disappointment. The FMCs are all low self-esteem and desperate for therapy, the MMCs are abusive and cruel. There is nothing redeeming in them at all. I am writing this just in case I forget how much I hated this series and ever encounter ads for this author again. She had her three strikes. She’s definitely out.

Parts of this were so much fun, but what let my reading experience down were the almost constant one liners. Overload... Some of the romance scenes were cringe, but they are like that in all this author's books. Still, I couldn't stop reading. 3.5 ⭐ 😂

Girl needs to grow a backbone

How Winnie didn’t scream bloody murder and physically evict her family, I will never understand. Biggest plot hole ever. There’s only so much one woman can take.

Fitz is also crazy, but he’s hot and rich enough to somehow balance it out, because of course he is.

This is the third Seattle Svensson brothers book. This book was funny the grandma was hilarious! Winnie has a stalker who sneaks into her house and cleans it and does her laundry 🤣 she’s in love with Fitzgerald Svensson and she doesn’t know he’s her stalker. He’s so obsessed with her goes to her coffee shop every day and then buys the building! When her sister’s rich hockey player boyfriend dumps her and kicks her and the family out they show up at Winnie’s doorstep and move in. Then the insanity begins! Winnie signs up her sister on dating apps trying to set her up with a billionaire so her sister and the family can move out. She tries to set her up with Fitz but he wants Winnie. Turns out Winnie has more than one stalker. The drama unfolds between Winnie and her family and Fitz and his brothers. The chemistry between Winnie and Fitz is electric and the spice and the dirty talk is so hot between these two!

There is so much going on in this book I felt sometimes I couldn’t keep up. I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Mia Madison and Jack Calihan. I think they did such an amazing job as the voices of Winnie and Fitz. They really brought this story to life and the comedy just hit that much better in the narration!

Thank you to Alina Jacobs for a listener code of this audiobook.

Not My Kind of Obsession.

I knew better than to pick up a stalker romance, but I did it anyway. By nearly 80%, I felt like I was losing patience with the story and ultimately decided to DNF.

I can appreciate that different readers enjoy different tropes, but this one stretched believability too far for me. The dynamic was presented as safe and consensual, yet there were several moments that made me question that. Between the predictable plot and a romance I just couldn’t buy into, I wasn’t motivated to continue.

After reading the Kindle Recap, I was relieved I didn’t push through to the end. The outcome was exactly what I expected, and finishing wouldn’t have changed my opinion. This one simply wasn’t for me.

DNF at 8%. The opening scene let me know this wasn't going to be my jam, with the FMC jumping down the MMC's (a regular at her coffee shop) throat for very little provocation. Yeah, he was dumb and obnoxious, but her response was way OTT.

I still kept going because the blurb looked really fun and I was hoping maybe it was just a rocky start. Then FMC's family showed up and I realized this is the same author that did Good Elf Gone Wrong, and the FMC was following very similar arcs, right down to the crappy family she wouldn't stand up to. I put it down when her family informed her they were moving in and she did nothing to stop it.

I gave this story four stars because I was looking for a hilarious romcom and this definitely fit the bill.

Absolutely ridiculous meet-cute. Families with absolutely no boundaries and no filters.

I haven’t read any of the others in this series and had no problems other than now I want to laugh at how the other brothers find love.

I’m saying this review has spoilers because I have comments on the ends of a few chapters that end so suddenly and I’m just not sure what happened next. And I feel like I missed out on some good laughs.

Definitely spicy!! And worth the read!

okay read

This is a hilarious fun read but there are so many characters the main characters get lost. Seems this author always has a crazy extended family for the main female character and after a while it just gets tiring. This is book 3 in the series and it was an okay read for me.

This book was hilarious. Gran especially!!! "the floors are heated like the trailer you raised your kids in." I died laughing. I enjoyed watching Fitz struggle with his emotions. I believe it was an appropriate title for this book. Some moments were cringy but I loved it.

A weird stalker rom-com.
I didn’t like Winnie’s family, I found them all so insensitive to Winnie and quite annoying. I was actually horrified by some of the things they did and said.
Some bits were funny, but I didn’t really LOL as much as I hoped.
A reasonably entertaining read.

I thought this would be a fairly simple light rom-com; it’s actually billionaire fantasy romance where the together chubby woman falls into sex with the billionaire who has been stalking her. The MMC is emotionally wildly unstable, the MFC has a nutso sex obsessed family that just invades her personal space (seriously her mom dad and grandma all move in with her sister too - no jobs?!?)

The stalker fetish is creepy as heck imo. Not an author I’ll ever read again.
