With Death in the Rehabilitation Clinic, Petra Kurz presents her first gripping crime novel. The story begins with crime writer Hilde in a rehabilitation clinic in Vienna-Baumgarten, where she is searching for inspiration to overcome her writer’s block. She eventually finds it—in the form of a murder she is eager to solve.
The investigating inspector, Paulus, allows Hilde to become unusually involved in the case, which makes the story particularly engaging. The atmosphere of the clinic is especially well portrayed, almost making the reader want to consider going to a rehab themselves.
The writing style is very fluid and vivid, although at the beginning it leans more toward description than dialogue. Nevertheless, the ending is surprising, and one is already looking forward to the crime author’s next story.
