I read this book with my son. He slept through the entire thing. When he woke up, he said, “Daddy, where are all the important places? Like where you and Mommy work? And Wrigley Field? And Stan’s Donuts?” And he’s right, this book doesn’t include any places where I work even though I live in Chicago. Also, my son is 6 days old. He’s only been outside our apartment 3 times.
I picked up this board book at BEA thanks to Good Night Books. Since we were in Chicago it seemed appropriate to get this one tied to that city. For someone that is traveling to Chicago (or any city if you pick up one of the other books) it is a great introduction into some of the things that you might see and do on that trip with a young one. The illustrations are colorful and engaging and help share what the child will see when in this city.
I like for the sports teams where it is generic wording but the illustration depicts all of the major sports teams in Chicago.
The book takes the reader from morning until night and wishes each spot either good morning, good afternoon, good evening or good night.
This is a charming book that would make a great souvenir for those who are visiting and/or staying in Chicago. It starts off from morning then closes at night while visiting some of the prominent known spots within the limits of Chicago.
Although I only stopped at the train station for a few hours, I did get a chance to see some other places that weren't mentioned. Furthermore with the beauty of the actual train station and its fame throughout for its opulence I was disappointed in not actually seeing that being included within the locations of the book.
Otherwise it is a quick and enjoyable read that will please many who enjoy Chicago for years to come.
My son loves this board book. We read it every afternoon before his nap and every night before bed. Normally he'd be getting sick of a book read that often, but he still requests multiple readings each time. I will definitely be looking for other books in this series.
The Chicago location for the "Good Night..." series is fine with the usual colorful, local attractions although some of them seemed a little generic. Perhaps due to copyrights or licensing?
